Hi guys,
i recently bought a LGOS and soon began to tinker and try out custom roms. and right now im running into a problem i couldnt solve by searching through this or other forums. i tried out several different roms with different kernels (modaco, swiftextreme, stock (froyo and gb), cm7 newest nightly) and with every rom my battery drainage is way higher than it should be.
with battery monitor im reading values between 100mA and 900mA when the phone is in standby mode and not being used! the temparature is also quite high ... round 38°C
on some forum i came across the problem with FD dormancy, and because my provider ( eplus) doesnt support fd dormancy i tried using a workaround by shutting down the phone application everytime the mobile data connection is being disabled... but it didnt help.
so i tried wether or not my problem is related to an app or service. i shutted down every process possible and the problem still persisted. i also tried disabling go launcher and using the stock one, but it didnt work.... im using no widget at all on my desktop right now
i tried wiping my battery stats through clockworkmod recovery. and it didnt help.
right now im beginning to believe that this problem is hardware related. im so frustrated with this :<. the phone itself is awesome, but this problem makes it quite hard to love it :<
thanks for your help
update: for the most part the problem was related to bad battery calibration. now the battery consumption is "only" ~50 mA in standby mode... the phone i had before, a "htc hd2 with newest hyperdroid rom" only consumed 3-5 mA when sleeping. when playing 3d games like gameloft's "order and chaos online" battery consumption on my LGOS averaged round 20% in 30 minutes of playing ... is this value normal?
the situation is still not very satisfying :<
Update: i noticed that the battery voltage stats are totally weird. The battery monitor values seem to jump from low to high values while discharging. I also stumbled across some thread regarding cm7 from April. The battery driver from LG seems to be faulty. Is there any fix ffor this... I'm using modaco right now

another update in this conversation with myself :
i tried using cm7 ... and it actually made my problem even worse. the phone discharged in less than 5 hours while in standby. now im back to modaco... discharge rate while in standby is ~40mA.
is there anybody else on here who can help me ? :<
i guess i will need to sell this phone :<
sounds like a hardware problem, maybe you should send it in for a repair.
anyways when using the phone it normal that the battery is empty after 5 hours or so... but that should not happen in standby. does it happen with a clen install an withoit anything installed?

thanks for your reply ... my father just also bought an optimus 2x... so i will do some comparisons to check what exactly the problem is and wether or not it is software related. my last step before sending it in will be to revert back to stock froyo and install no app at all and check if the problem still exists ...
damn this phone is costing me many hours of stress and work ^^
Dear fellow enthusiasts,
since a couple of days, I'm experiencing sudden device crashes when I'm using it for network related activities, mostly over the 3G network (for example, I'm typing out a message on the Facebook app, and the phone goes into boot loop or simply "shuts down"). I had only recently upgraded to the 4th beta build for the Cyanogenmod 9, hosted here on XDA , so I suspected it would be related to this. However, upon reinstalling both the previous version and the new mod from absolute scratch, the issues remained the same.
I had noticed that after each crash, the battery charge displayed as very low (2-6%), whereas I'm certain the charge should be much higher. So I thought it might be some sort of corrupt battery-cache issue or something.
However, and here's my actual question, I just now noticed that my I9001 battery is slightly bulged, on both ends. This bulge starts just above the white printed SAMSUNG lettering, and it ends just bellow the QR code. I can't for the life of me remember if or not this is normal, so could someone please confirm this for me?
And while we're at it, could a faulty battery affect my performance as such (making my phone crash etc)?
Thank you very much in advance for any help or information anyone could give me.
I confirm, battery is slightly bulged in those places but it looks like a production "thing" to me (I hope I understood what you mean), no need to worry, I guess. Looks like corrupted battery stats, try to wipe it via recovery (phone fully charged, plugged in - then wipe battery stats). After that, i recommend one or two full battery discharge - charge cycles. I've noticed hovever, that after each full factory reset I have for about 20% better battery drain, than after flashing many ROMs, kernels and updates (cache and dalvik cache wipe only), my battery drain is getting pretty annoying. Try a full factory reset, if wiping battery stats didn't work.

Thanks a lot for the confirmation Jacol !
Anyone else who can confirm a bulging of the 1650mAh battery for the I9001? I'd like a large enough sample group if possible.

Thanks Blumdum, do you mean you also had your phone crash on you?
yes
i charged the battery
after some time my phone turned off
i restarted it and i had only 2% battery left
then i took a look on the battery stats and there was a huge drop from like 95% to 2%

Hey people,
I received my new battery last night, I went for an Akku Powercell of 1800mAh. Charged overnight, been using it all day, no problems whatsoever to be found.
Thanks again for the assistance!
Swollen battery = defective!
I'm sorry but I've encountered this as well in the past. Normally working phone with sudden shut downs and huge drops in battery charge. It took me a long time to convince me that the battery was defective. So maybe this would save you guys some time in finding this out!

Hey, try to use cm10 for a few days, if the problem gone then your battery is alright, and please stop using beta roms, regret are so buggy and slow: )

In general healthy batteries DO NOT swell. Buy a new one before it explodes or starts leaking...
Hey all, just because people keep on posting, the battery was indeed defective, the roms were absolutely fine and the new battery is performing marvellously!
Thanks again for all the input !

I have the exact same problem with my sgs i9000-gt.
My phone turn off itself ( no restarts, its a complete shutdown ).
First, I thought i might be a problem of GB 2.3.6 rom i was using, so i updated to latest cm10 but the problem persists.
If you restart the phone after the shutdown than i shuts down within a minute again.
Also the battery drain is pretty fast. I notice the same bulges on the battery as reported in this post.
I did the battery calibration thing as some people suggested, but that does not solves the problem. However, it got rid of the fast changes in battery status which was happening before. Like when you restart after shutdown at 80% battery status, it will show like 2% battery left and after few minutes of charging it would boost back to 80-90%.
But still the battery drain is pretty fast. It discharges from 98% (i cannot get to 100% charge, 98% is highest) to 50 % within an hour, just idling.
And when i am around 40% or so and if i recieve some message and try to open a app it shuts down again.
I have ordered a new battery just in case. Will update here if that improves things for me. But i will still like advice on which is a more economical kernel and rom for i9000-gt? Some people suggested slim bean + semaphore on some forums but i would like to have some more concrete advice before i change more things without knowing the source of the problem. I would be grateful if someone can suggest what is best to use with some details( version, etc). Thanks for that in advance.
I thank you all (users + developers) for all the useful information provided on this forum, i learnt a lot although i still am not able to fix my problem . And I hope someone might come up with a concrete solution for this problem. If there is a solution which I might have missed, I thank you in advance again and hope you will be kind enough to point me in the right direction.
cheers
update: the phone stays alright if u dont do anything on it, but the moment you being doing something on it other than playing with system settings, like run some app, especially something that uses network / wifi, it shuts down. none of this happens though while its plugged in. it happens only when its on battery.
problems fixed so far after replacing the battery

I flashed back to stock samsung rom ( from the value pack) and the problem persisted.
today my new battery arrived and all the forementioned problem seems to be gone with the new battery, my phone seems to be working fine for last 5 hrs without any restarts or crazy battery drain. will test the same with custom roms again. As of now it only seems that problem was the battery.
Cheers.
thanks to the forum and developers
Hello guys I'm using a Galaxy Note GT N7000 on CM10.1 with NX Kernel
Recently I've been having a problem of battery drain. Even when I have put it in charging, the phone seems to have been draining out of it. I have tried to change the USB cable and the charger both, but still the problem persists. Does this mean that it'll get solved by a new battery? or there is some other issue causing this problem? Would wiping data cache or battery stats help? If so, I'd be glad for your help! If you require any more information, let me know. Thank you..

Witch nxkernel version are u on and have tried to full wipe everything and start from scratch the other thing is if its your battery you would probably be seeing stuff like your screen flickering and then the phone shuts down after reboot you find you have 1% battery that's the normal battery signs but other then that if it is dieing when charging you would have a huge drain and a fresh start could fix also you could check some battery stats see if something is staying active and could be an app doing this as well.

Hey I tried the following:
1. I tried a brand new battery but it didn't affect anything. I still tried a few more adapters and cables, nothing.
2. I did a full factory reset and the kernel was stock Cm kernel.
Still, the problem is persisting.
The NX Kernel that I WAS using, was version 1.3.9
What else can be the problem? Thanks in advance.
What governer have u set? And have u overclocked it?
Hey everybody on d XDA Forum. I recently sold my Xperia U for this S3 LTE. I receive uograde to 4.3 but after i upgrade the battery life very bad. I need a way to solve this. If not i go back to xperia u and no more samsung for cause same thing happen to me with galaxy y
I noticed too an higher battery drain since the update... I tried to freeze all samsung bloatware, to block system sync but it's nowhere near the screen time I could get under 4.1.2
See multiple posts and see 4.3 battery post above this one .
It's a problem many people are facing...
Well, this a problem apmost every smartphone user is facing nowadays. While Smartphones have gotten better and faster with the passage of time, the battery lives have gotten worse.
But male sure to turn off Wifi,Bluetooth,GPS,3G/LTE when not using them.
Using apps like Greenify and battery doctor may help improve battery life as well.
I oppened a thread about this battery issue. It seems like this drain is given to samsung blot apps, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2615463
Battery drain caused by different issues different apps installed by different users. Install greenify and wakelock checker and u will know what apps are using or running in the background. For me it was mx player once. Then i reflashed another rom it was facebook and activesync email. So trial amd error urself. Thousands are saying battery is better then 4.1.2 so cant be the rom. Cheers

:good:agreed. Betterbatterystats & wakelock detector can really helps to find the drain problem. Then, use greenify & tasker. Nice combo.
Hey I have it with media server keeping my wife's i9305 awake.
After searching a bit. We found that it was ext SD. We formatted the card and it seemed good for a day. Now its back.
She has the dbt German official 4.3
Anyone having that issue? If not what firmware did you use to get to 4.3

happened to me before. Instead of disabling media scanner system app, you can install Rescan Media app by aditya.

Phone: Moto G2 XT1068
ROM: Stock MM (final)
Rooted
Xposed + GravityBoxMM
Like many on MM I have been getting the dreaded 'Google Play Services' service draining up to 20% of my battery. It didn't start straight away but developed over time.
After extensive log combing and forum trawling, the best I could find was to disable some of the sync services I didn't need in my Google account. This only helped a little.
I was all ready to factory reset and perhaps try a battery friendly ROM such as AOSP, when the thought occurred to me to try wiping my cache first, so I did.
It was like getting a new phone. It's now more responsive (I hadn't noticed that it was laggy until the lag was gone, so it can't have been that bad) and the mystery battery drain was gone. Yesterday I plugged it in before going to sleep with 38% remaining and more than 2 hours screen on time. Google play services wasn't even on the list of battery eaters.
This might not work for everyone, but it's an easy thing to try.
[TL;DR]
Wipe your cache in TWRP, it might make things a whole lot better.
