Hi, today i found out that i can't work with my phone in the pouch, i've broken the glass simply by picking something that fell on the ground. Now i need replacement, some suggested me to buy the LCD with the frame, others say that a s*itty frame could give me issues with gps and antennas in general. I don't want to wait one month for a replacement screen only to find out that the quality is rubbish, so i ask you: what and where is the best replacement part i can buy? Thanks in advance

All the replacements you buy will be the same sh*t quality, the only difference is gonna be the price. The best solution is to take to the Authorize MI service centre, but that will cost a lot and it will probably take a month. Or, maybe finding a damaged/used Mi Max which has a and not damaged screen.
just wait for max3

Eh, I bought this replacement screen on Amazon for $36 CAD. It came in about a month, and works just fine. It *is* a bit dimmer than the stock display, so I have to use a brighter setting when outdoors, but otherwise, no issues. It even comes with the tools / 3M Tape / Etc for the repair (though I didn't opt to DIY, I paid a local shop $50 to do it for me with my provided materials).

Damn it. I just dropped my SGS from about a foot and a half off the floor and the glass/screen cracked. The phone still works fine but I don't think I can live with it like this. Is it possible to get it fixed? How expensive an endeavor is it to get the glass replaced?
Edit: I don't know if it makes any difference but it's really just the glass that is broken. The display still looks fine and works fine. I'm not sure how these things are constructed and if just the glass can be replaced or if the entire thing needs to be changed. I'm worried that by continuing to use it and carry it around in my pocket that the display may become damaged.
What are the chances that I can get samsung or bell to replace it outright if I stress test it and the SD/motherboard fails again.

If you decide to change the screen on your own, check my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745262. Replacing my own screen thru repair service would have cost 250€ and by changing it by myself it cost 90€. These days you can get new screen from ebay with ~50€.
Where did you spend the extra 40€ above the cost of the screen? I've not read anything about the repair process but did find some ebay listings for replacement screens for $55, which isn't bad at all.

Phone was very new on the market when I bought the screen. That's the reason why screen cost 90€ then. 2 weeks after I bought it the price dropped to ~50€
I cracked the screen on my Nexus 6, however the LCD and digitizer still work fine. Every replacement shop I have spoken with in NYC is quoting me $220-250 US to replace the entire LCD / glass screen together and won't remove and replace the glass screen alone. I paid $250 CDN ($180 US) for this phone, so spending that much on a screen replacement isn't worth it to me.
What alternatives do I have? How difficult is replacing the glass screen alone? I know its bonded to the LCD, but is it worth while to try and repair? Can anyone suggest a shop that does glass screen replacement alone in NYC?
Thanks

buy a new n6 instead of replacing the glass
Seconded. We get far too attached to devices and our judgment becomes clouded. If the repair cost is more than the device is worth, then you've pretty well answered your own question. Me, I'd go for a Oneplus 3.

I highly doubt that you will find a repair shop that just does glass. Just google the price of the screen, the cheapest screen I found is from china for 134 on ebay. That price range is about normal depending on where they get the screen for. At the repair shop I help manage we charge the customer for part+tax+shipping+50 for labor. Why not just do the repair yourself, if not, then your alternative is buying another one. I have run into plenty of phones that it is cheaper for a used phone, than for the repair, and we let customers know that. We normally order the phone for them.
Swappa should have a fair number of used devices available. If looking to upgrade, other devices can be found there.
When I broke my screen a few months ago, I looked around and the glass-only replacement looked like a real pain. I just got a used one in excellent condition on Craigslist for $100 and called it a day.
I honestly don't believe that it is even POSSIBLE to do a glass-only replacement.
Not just because you can't buy just the digitizer (glass), but because the AMOLED layer is only about a QUARTER OF ONE MILLIMETER THICK, and incredibly brittle.
While you could potentially do the job without the front FRAME, given the price difference (about $5-$10), and since you would end up spending that on GLUE anyway, you might as well do a full frame replacement.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00ZGPELXQ/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
Its a fairly easy job.
The only tools you really need are a T3 torx screwdriver and a hair dryer to soften the glue on the back cover.
It's not impossible to do a glass only replacement, but a glass-only replacement is not something I ever recommend. Not only because the AMOLED display is so thin, but because getting the glass off requires softening optical glue and wedging things between the digitizer and the display. More than one of my fellow Galaxy S4 owners destroyed the display trying to replace only the glass.
Replacing the entire display, preferably with the midframe, is the way to go here.
Motorola offers an exchange for $150... I did it a few months ago, fairly easy process.
Hello everyone!
I recently cracked the screen on this phone. It dropped from my pocket on the parquet. After I took it i saw the one crack across the screen. The display is working but touch works only in small area. So I decided to look for a replacement. But I dont't want to buy the screen with frame, as service suggested me, because it is too pricey in my country. So I want to buy just screen.
And there is a question. Can I find original screen from Sony without frame (i read what it comes only with frame in assembly) or all distributors which sells just display module as original OEM Sony part tells lie?
And if I can't, is there any very good comparable or maybe the same in image quality to original display copy?
Hi. I'm owning small repair service and I can say from experience there is no original LCD without frame. Sony service has only whole sets with frame and speakers but sometimes without flaps. LCDs without frame are never original. Unfortunately there is no tested distributor who always sells good quality replacements. It's all made in China and if You buy one of those it's better to buy from local supplier because You can return it when low quality come out. When You order it from China, You can return only when LCD or touch is not working.

Thank You for the very informative response.
But anyway, if anyone has replaced the screen with copy and it is very good quality, please reply.
It is a lottery. So even if anyone has a very good quality copy, it doesn't mean that you would get (from the same seller) the same. Besides - the good quality would mean different things to different people.
I would buy either original LCD or a new phone. As much as I know, you can get later various problems with 3rd party screens. Besides visual quality the cable connections and built-in chip must be good also otherwise you can see mild to heavy distortions very soon.
If I had to change LCD in my own phone I'd take used but original part instead of new replacement.

I had bought SGS7 a month later but among 3 phones all was with different screen defects. So i decided to return it and wait for SGS8 and now repair my Z3c (I have to use my HTC One V for daily tasks - a dubious pleasure). I don't want to spend much money on this phone. In the case of display quality for me is the lack of differences with the original or if they are not critical (the image is comparable). I read the forums and some people really got good replacement.
So I bought this Mi Mix dirt cheap because it had a cracked screen and the bezel is cracked also. Where’s a good place to get replacement parts. I’ve heard of isssues with the lcd and ambient light sensors. Can someone point me in the right direction? The lcd is fine on my phone but the glass is cracked. Is it possible to replace the glass or is it just easier to replace the whole assembly?

How much did you pay?
Mi Mix - Epic Pro
Replacing whole unit would be easier but costlier , replacing glass is cheaper but not easy, you'll need a lot of patience if your are fixing it on your own(or if some expert agrees on doing it for ya might be a plus point), you'll need special adhesive to bind glass to screen, most people use some sort of thin thread to remove glass from LCD, I have seen few people replacing AMOLED panels which are even more thinner then the IPS on Mi Mix but its not easy process lots of things should be kept in mind ,and you might end up breaking your display
1*See if someone is buying that display then sell it and buy a whole new assembly
2*If 1 is no help then you'll be left with 2 options replace glass or assembly
Either way you can give replacing glass a try if you get the glass cheaper
Replacing whole assembly is your last resort
Check you jerryrigeverthing channel on YouTube he did disassemble Mi Mix and he also replaced glass on a samsung oled panel

Paid $100 for the 6GB + 256GB one. Though the $100 came from recycling soda pop cans which were given to me. So in the end I didn’t pay out of pocket for it.

Last time I checked the full assembly plus frame cost upwards of 200$, not including service costs of course.
Which means that fixing up that beast is still going to be pretty pricy.
If you have the tools, skills and patience to do it though then that's definitely a goal worth pursuing.
Keep us updated on your progress, I love following DIY projects like these.
Looks like vopmart sells the bezel for 90 and the screen assembly for 100 + 10 for frame. Hmmm. What to do... Gotta check out some more teardowns to see if I want to do it myself. But from what I can see it doesn’t look to bad. I’m just not sure about the optic glue + glass & ips panel.
Little update on this. Went to the local cellphone repair shop and asked a quote for a lcd assembly replacement. I was quoted for $120 total (parts & labor) for full assembly replacement. Which also includes lifetime warranty on the screen as long as the screen is available. The repair guy was looking for screens on eBay including the frame for the lcd. Seems pretty damn good if you ask me and I wouldn't have to do the dirty work. But thing is I don't know how well they do repairs. Also, I forgot to ask for a quote for the bezel.

There are some teardowns on YouTube, quite easy with a few hurdles, the hardest part for me was removing the battery, there are tabs you pull that's supposed to help but they just snapped on me. If you're lucky it might work if not don't rush it or the battery will puncture and you will need a new one, the copy batteries are crap. Watch the teardowns a few times and you will get it. AliExpress was where I got mine there are loads of sellers with them. You will need some b7000 glue as the replacements don't have adhesive on them. The glue is very cheap and the screen come with tools.
Where did you buy it?

You need to be very selective when buying the LCD. Almost all of them do not have the oleophobic coating turning the screen into a smudgefest within minutes. I replaced my coated screen with an uncoated screen initially and it was disgusting. Luckily it was defective so I returned it for my money back and then went to Aliexpress. This vendor has the only coated version I know of:
https://de.aliexpress.com/item/For-...61ef335&transAbTest=ae803_2&priceBeautifyAB=0
Sorry for the lengthy URL. He claims to have the coating and he acutually delivers on the claim. Another important factor is the middle frame which is included and already attached to the screen. Man screens come without it and you then need to pry the old one off and glue it to the new screen. Often the glue is not strong enough and the diesplay will lift out of the phones body. Sure, it is more expensive than other options, but worth every cent. The display is fee of defects, sits flush with the ceramic frame and makes the phone look pristine.

This is all true, mine is smudge magnet, I can live with it but annoying everything else is ok, I clean the screen with solution then use liquid car Wax to add a bit of a coating against fingerprints, 3 coats of car Wax and a good polish off. Helps a little bit with smudges. It feels really smooth afterwards.

I got my mi mix screen replaced by ShatterFix (www dot shatterfix dot com). Heard of them from a friend. They have pickup and delivery service across India.
They replaced it with a 100% genuine screen and delivered back on the very next day.
Costed me 9599 INR. Service centre was asking 13.5k here in Delhi.
Hi everyone,
After 1 and half years my screen has broke yesterday, it fell a stupid fall on charger and broke from top speaker side, even though screen protector is on and case is on. It is what it is.
I am not planning to replace this device, I'll fix screen, so any recommendations? Anyone experienced screen replacement? Did you send it back to supplier or you replaced it your self?
Should I get screen replacement with frame or just screen and I keep my frame?( Not a scratch on my frame). Any place you recommend to get new screen?
Should I use T7000 glue or is there something better?
Any advises to consider while fixing it?
Any comment is appreciated.
My first question would be, have you ever done a screen replacement before? Because if you haven't then I'll recommend taking it to a reputable repair shop nearby considering you are not planning to buy another phone. Also just get the screen fixed no point in changing the frame as you said it's in good shape. But if you really wanna experience the bliss and accomplishment that is fixing your own device then always follow IFixIt guides and before opening it up or ordering parts read about your device's repairability. Also asking your friends and other people around you for a good repair shop would be a good idea.

Hi,
regarding your first question, not for a mobile phone, because i know how to take care of my stuff, except this time (sigh). but of course i've done it for a laptop of my friend, and many many many electrical fixes. so do not worry about me doing it my self as it is my thing to do things my self.
regarding asking about the frame, i am asking this just to see if any one experienced replacing it without frame and how well was it sealed compared to pre and properly sealed. got my point?
Thanks for your valuable advice,

Okay, this means that it'll be easy for you to repair your device, as for the frame I think you can buy a silicone seal as well and comes in a plastic case so it'll be easy to line it up, even If it doesn't you can buy sealing glue and do it yourself, it'll definitely be much cheaper than getting the whole frame. I do get your point now.

Oh okay, I thought it was weird, I hope you're able to fix your device and 20-35 would certainly be worth it if it did make the repair convenient for you.
