Hi,
I've got an old Samsung Galaxy s4 (i9506) and I would like to use it in my kitchen as multimedia center connected to a TV using a MHL cable. The problem is that phone detects it as USB so it charges only at 500 mA max, and it drains battery quicker.
I've been searching all around, and I didn't find any kernel that supports fast charge for USB ports for this phone... In fact I only found arter97 kernel, obviously not maintained for a long time...
So the question is... is there any easy way to enable fast charge in this phone? I know there's a c patch code available to add fast charge support to any kernel... and arter97 source code is also available, but I don't have enough skills to do it myself...
Ok. I was wrong... There's more kernels around than I though initially, and there's one ported from Note 3 with fast charge feature included:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9506-develop/kernel-krait-kernel-shv-e330s-k-t3548770
I post it just in case someone faces same doubt.
bye!

I don't know , but I think even if you were able to charge via usb it will took very long time in order to full charge it because capacity of battery is big
Need to make your self a universal usb charging adapter, look it up on here.
Works and been tested with 7.7 aswell!
You need to solder resisters 33k and 10K To the data and power lines...
Look for it in 10.1 forum

Do you mean D+ and D- lines of USB need to be pulled up ? and which D line should have 33k or 10k ?
Link please .
yes thats the one..
(make sure you join the resistors to each other at the middle aswell.)
Look at the resisters you use and make sure they are both facing the same direction. My first attempt to do it failed and at first i thought it didnt work on 7.7
Then i noticed one resister was back to front.not 100 percent sure if this was the problem but after i changed this from looking at pictures online and comparing the pics to my resisters i noticed what end the 2 colored bands are at.the 33k one with the gold bands and the 10k one with dual black bands.
The end of the restister with the gold bands(33k) and Black bands(10k)
is the end that the power joins to.
The other end of the resister should have matching bands on 10k and 33k.
this is the end that joins to the data line.

once i left my turned-off 7.7 connected to my running PC for few hours, to my surprise the battery seems to be charged-up during that time
yup... its still charging... but slowly...
Actually you could get faster charging with that USB data cable when the PC has been installed with the proper drivers. The standard downstream port could deliver up to 500mA ONLY after the USB hub has negotiated power draws with the host interface. Otherwise the port might just deliver less that 100mA power.
Kies provides the suitable driver. You may uninstall Kies afterward and keep the driver installed.
In addition, PCs have two kinds of USB port — standard downstream port and charging downstream port. Some older PC would label them 'SDP' and 'CDP', but I found that most modern PCs don't distinguish them at all. As you might imagine, you could get faster charging plugging into a CDP than into a SDP.
FYI., those ports used in wall charger is the third kind of USB port, CP - Charging Port.
Hi!
After installed the Battery HD soft, when link with PC, That programe showing the charging time and progress charge. but still not sure.
I am charging via USB as we speak.
I am doing it using a standard mincroUSB cable (that I use to charge my GNote and SGS2) and added an adapter I got on eBay for my SGT10.1
You can pick one up here: http://goo.gl/EMzpJ
It's not as efficient as the AC charger but it's doing a good job and will get you by if you haven't got access to a power point.
Can use this hub to charge as well
This SIIG INC - SYNC/CHARGING HUB AND READER FOR GALAXY TABLETS - CE-H21112-S1 gives you the capability to charge your Tab through a computer USB port. Seems to work pretty good used it last night. Checked the net prices vary per vendor.

The connector on the 7.7 tab is exactly the same as on P1000. There is no trouble in charging.
My original cable came with the tab allows me to charge via USB @ my laptop, but the charging speed is very slow. So I prefer to use an external portable charger over this most of the time. Not sure if there are any apps or software that allows fast charge kinda stuff?
Hi all
1st question:
I'm using custom roms a while now (actual Resurrection Remix 5.1.2) and I ever asked myself: why is my Tab showing less RAM than actually existent ? The Galaxy Tab has 500MB of RAM but the "about"-tab shows only 448. It this normal or is there a fix ?
2nd question:
will the "fast charge"-option damage my battery in some ways ?
Thanks for your replies

Yes the P1000 should have, and actually has 512MB of RAM. But some of this ~±24MB is likely used to run the Android OS. You'll never have access to the full 512MB of RAM.
AFAIK the USB Fast Charge, only applies to being able to charge the Tablet from a +5v USB Port from your PC. IIRC the problem here is your average PC USB Port can only push out 0.5A MAX! To charge the P1000 you have to use there Charger which is able to push out the +5v, but at the full 2A. Fast charge allows you to charge your Device in a more reasonable time. As opposed to 10+ hours it would take otherwise. As to it being bad for the Battery? I'm not that informed. But IMHO you should use the standard Charger when ever you can.

Thanks a lot!!!
So i love my nexus 6 because i can fully charge it in less than 2 hours with factory charger.
i also use a 28aw usb port and it makes it even faster with the factory adapter.
with all these new phones that are coming out (n5 2015) and supposedly they'd be using USB.C, does that mean that charge time will improve even more than quick charge 2.0 or would it stay the same? Is USB.C mostly faster data transfer or will it be "quick charge 3.0"?
Would someone explain it to me as i'm dying to find out how much faster phones will charge with USB.C, if any.
Thanks coming your way!
Far as I know USB-C is only the connection. Reversible. Don't have to figure out which end of cable to connect. To change charging rate is internal to device hardware and software.
that is one of the benefits. but from USB's website, it also increases speed from 3.0 to 3.1 drastically so i'm hoping to see some numbers!
It's going to depend on the power management chip that is in whatever the device is.
From my understanding it should also make charging and transferring data faster but not sure how much faster. It will probably be determined by the other hardware built into said device.
can't wait to see what it's going to be like.
universal is the way of the future.
I think how fast you can charge a battery depends on how much current the battery can effectively handle. I don't think it has much to do with the type of connector (usb-c) or the USB spec (3.1)
...except that we're already at the limit of micro-USB with tablets. It's why you have some manufacturers using proprietary charging connectors on their android tablets in order to get reasonable charge times for such massive batteries. The connector is very much a limiting factor after a point.
Whether we reach that point with current battery tech in phone-sized application is another issue.
As far as usb fast charge from a computer usb port it should make no difference. That is controlled by the kernel. For wall and QI charge need the upcoming Qualcom Fast Charge 3.0 that is in the new chips.
help: Keep getting message "For Faster Charging Use Original Charger" I'm using the o
i tried to use a generic otg cable (china made) on my samsung galaxy tab s2, at first I was able to view files on my usb but when the the tablet was moved i wasn't able to view now my usb files. then when my battery gets to 7% i tried to charge it with my original samsung charger (that came in with my tablet package) the red x on the battery started to show and there was a notification that says "device charging slowly, to charge faster, use the original charger". I dont know what the real problem is- is it because i used a defective otg or my tablet has the issue. please help my tablet is 2 months old

i already did- no luck. do you think that after i plug the otg i may damage some internal parts of the tablet?
Get some juice into it then download the app Galaxy charging current and see what it's putting out.
I have a charger for my s6 and one for the tab s2. They look the same but reading the fine print, the tab s2 is a quick charger while the s6 is a normal one. It does make a difference, the quick charger is definitely faster
You have a faulty cable, specifically there is a break / bad / intermittent connection.
For example today it took over three hours to charge from 57% to 100%.Phone was being charged whilst turned off.
Noticed the other day when recharging both the recharger & the back of the Note got pretty warm whilst recharging & phone turned off.
Could this be caused by an app, say something like anti-virus, I run Avast?
Sorry to bump this but it's still an ongoing issue.
Also bump, I have this problem as well. I haven't damaged/dropped the phone or exposed to water. I have tried both mine and my wife's official samsung faster chargers and my anker multiport fast charger. They all charge slowly. Any information would be helpful.

hi ,
i would suggest you try and pinpoint cause of issues eg , to phone ,usb cable ,charger etc .?
Then decide what action to take .?
I would suggest you start by to check charging ,discharging etc. of your devices ?
i am currently using these two apps to check my cables/charger charging ...
Ampere and Galaxy Charging Current ..............................(Plus, there are plenty other similar apps /options Just check for free versions , as i have the paid ones )
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.ampere&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abmantis.galaxychargingcurrent
To give you an example why i suggest this ,
is that just yesterday i checked , all my usb /chargers .
I found that the one usb cable ,one family member was using .
He was complaining about slow /forever charging ,
The usb cable was only charging at 300mA average
I changed it with another cable ,that was charging 1200mA ...+ ( average )
i also made sure (in past) changing usb cables and chargers around and check current .
If this does not work ,surely it points towards your device and not an accessory of device ?
Only option then is to take to service center ?
Just remember ,
you don't have to "damage" your accessories /device ?
to experience issues, like i described above in my post .
good luck
post note
Nearly forgot .
Remember there a diffs between cable charging and fast charging.
Firstly ,fast charging has to be enabled, in your Device/ Smart manager ,Battery ,at bottom Fast cable charging.
Secondly ,
If your device is fast charging or cable charging,
it will tell you this in your drop down
Notifications list eg . fast charging /cable charging .
I have found that a lot of Usb cables /chargers "don't " fast charge. !!
One moment it might say in Notification "fast charging " then a few days later that same cable/charger , will suddenly stop fast charging .!!
I also don't recommend ,always fast charging .
I am sure it will eventually damage/shorten , your lifespan of battery .

Willcor summed it up nicely. It's also worth mentioning that in the past I have had similar experiences, albeit as a result of firmware (stock) that I flashed via Odin. On some it would take forever to charge to I flashed something else etc. If you've had any updates recently then it may be related, but it also could be your cables. I remember reading somewhere that people had faulty fast chargers (or ones that would develop faults overtime) as well as some of samsungs cables (which are also known for bad "batches").
Regards.
