Is phone blocked or broken? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi,
I found one person is selling Note8 which "sim card isn't working. I dont know if is blocked or card slot is broken".
My questions are: 1.Can I solve -blocked- problem? Flashing modem, ROM etc.?
2. I think that SIM card slot will be not broken, but nothing is impossible.
3. What problems can be with phone? Can I solve them?
REGARDS

I would say your first step is to make sure that the Note8 is not stolen ?. Ask for proof of purchase etc.
Anyway, I would stay far away from such an deal.

Get the IMEI number from them and check it online.

So now we should guess what is wrong with the phone and how to solve it ? Shouldn't you be asking the seller those questions ?

Stay away from non-working phone, is my advice.

If there are troubles sometimes with brand new-out of the box, officially distributed devices, think about a dubious second hand already not working one…. Avoid it like the plague!!!

i put a microsim to sim adapter and it broke the sim contacts on the tray!! Thats why I don't have warranty. Do anyone know what can I do???
How much does Samsung charge for this repair? I think it is better to have them repair it.
U should try diferent micro sim before u buy main board, u have two type of micro sim , sim with smaller chip and with bigger, the smaller one are causing problem, some of them are not working and some of them have problem with contact.

i have same problem before, i wen to network and said that ive lost my micro sim and i told them that i want normal sim replacement, because normal sim have big chip, after they send me new sim i have no problem...

and that someone screwed it up worse..... i should be able to fix it i pm'd you
..broke mine too!!
..did a similar thing to my Note.....the sim card caught one of the connectors in the sim tray and pulled it off!!!...found a cool video on how to dismantle it (1st video on on "dismantle galaxy note"search) on you tube....on closer inspection the connector had broken and pulled away from the circuit board too (not happy!!). Have hunted high and low to try and find someone who could supply a replacement main board....without any luck - if there's anyone out there that could point us in the write direction/add a link here....i'd love you forever!!
Really missing my Note right now!!!
New mobo for Galaxy Note? Check these guys out!!!
vicdroid84 you may be in luck......have found these guys, their based in Birmingham and are called Intercity business telecommunications (wont let me add the link here) tel:0121 643 7373.....have spoken to them, they can supply and fit a new mobo for about £130......takes about 48 hours upon them getting it to repair...am sending mine of today!!!!!........yipppeeeee!!
Samsung replaces the SIM tray. I read it is less than 50$ and sometime it is free.
Changing MOBO for a SIM tree is like changing a Car engine for a small nut
i recommend you take it to a company that's not Samsung to fix it, Samsung wont fix it if you don't have a warranty

Just pointing out to the OP that the above might be misinformation. The fix should be free if it's a warranty and $50 if it is a sim issue.
and as i said earlier.. if samsung wont fix it .. i can and will... and i can say so far i havent voided a warranty as in the warranty is still good after ive done the repair.. thats how clean..... so anyone with the problem just pm me... its legit too. got pretty good at board level repairs over the past 22 years working for some big name manufacturers... just trying to help...already helped a few on here....
Sim pins
I too broke off 1 of the 3 pins pulling a microsim out. I ordered and received the sim connector from parts4repair.com. But I think I have to solder off the current connector then solder on the replacement. Am I correct?

I suggest trying another sim. If the second sim doesn't work, contact the seller. It's possible the phone has a hardware problem.

I've never heard of this being related to software. I have run stock and custom rom on my phone and the sim has always been recognized.
Perhaps you could contact the seller and ask about the problem you are having.
I just ran into this problem and have tried every rom , flashing back to stock , new sim from att and just figured out how to flash the modem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233871) none of it has worked for me . I cant get the radio to even turn on it is really weird . At&t is sending me a new phone . I have spent 3 days non stop trying to get it too work and have no idea what it is but I know for sure that the radio will not turn on .
its not a software issue...its mechanical.
i fix it opening the phone and removing the spring the make the micro sim card spring back when you push it.
after this the sim card it will not make contact with pads so you have to put something on top (like a little piece of cardboard) to touch and make good contact with pads, before you close the phone...
its a cheap solution if you do not want to replace spring professionally that would be expensive unless under warranty.
I tough i was the only one may be i was to rough with mine but now i see is a very bad design from Motorola.......

Mine see's the sim card and even synces with it but the radio will not turn on , its pretty weird and im a noob who flashed everything you can flash so who knows what did it . I was sure that using rsd and going back to stock would fix it but it didn't . At least my warrenty should still work . I will find out soon enough .

HTC ONE Sim problem?

Hey XDA, I was wondering if any of you guys still experience the problem where the sim does not come in contact with the pins inside the phone. I have tried the tape fix a few times with a few different sims (that all work on my s4) but no good. I was wondering if anyone has any good fixes before I have to send it out to HTC. Also, if anyone has sent their phone to HTC, how much does it cost? Thanks

I had this problem on my HTC One, the sim usually worked but sometimes the phone said "no sim card inserted", suggesting there wasn't a proper contact between the phone and sim. I tried the tape method too but it didn't work. Eventually I sent the phone back to the retailer I purchased it from and I received a replacement, as it was under warranty and was not accidentally damaged.
HTC shouldn't charge for this if the phone is undamaged, they usually provide a 1 year warranty. They should either repair the phone or give you a replacement. Try calling them and see what they say.

Yeah i just called htc. I wanted to know how much they charge for the repair (im not under warranty anymore).
Does anyone know any possible fixes that work that doesn't require me to send it back to HTC or my carrier? Would buying a new sim tray, switching to a nano sim and using a nano to micro adapter, updating software, etc? Still stuck on this. Any help would be appreciated.

I was getting the no SIM error intermittently. I tried the "add tape to SIM" method, which seemed to work for a while. I think I added three layers of tape over time, but the error kept coming back.
I understand that you've tried other SIM cards that you have available, but in my case, getting a new SIM card fixed the problem. I have not seen the error since I replaced it about three weeks ago. :good:

[Q] SGS i9000 sim tray and network issues

Hey folks,
I have a small issue with my SGS i9000 GT which I bought in 2011. I have a nano sim which I use in my HTC one M8 and I use a sim adapter to use the same sim in my SGS. Recently I was stupid enough to just put the adapter void of the sim into SGS sim tray and while pulling it out, I damaged the sim tray. I think the 2 little forks out of 3 were uprooted. :crying:
I took it a small repair shop nearby and try to get the sim tray changed. Now it detects the sim but it shows no service. I tried it with couple of other small shops and they say that the IC needs to be changed. Has anyone experienced something like this? I run a Mackay rom, will factory reset or flashing again help if it's a network / software issue. Any light in this regard would be appreciated.
Cheers!

I also "almost" made the same mistake.. Your most likely gonna have to replace whatever board to fix your sun tray. You've most likely pulled the pins free of the board. Maybe a new sim tray and someone who is really good at soldering can fix this. maybe...
doubt very much it is software as it was working before you did this. But it's worth a try re-flashing. In my opinion your going to need to replace the board with the memory chips attached, if I remember right from when I've dismantled my S1.
I would find a dirt cheap phone on eBay with a broken screen and pull the board with tray from that and put it in yours. Doing so with also mean your going to need to backup your data as you'll have new internal memory.
It's not too difficult to do this yourself, lots of good YouTube videos. Also what I've had to do in the past when I fried my internal memory.
Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong. Good luck!

I see this as a DIY opportunity  I will try to reflash the phone and if it doesn't work then I'll DIY the IC myself. I will update the progress here. Thank you for your valuable opinion.

Doesn't note 8 start up directly with setup in first boot

I recently brought a note 8 seal packed but when I started the phone it started directly without setup and was showing home screen.
I have concerns that it is used by someone or not.
Can anyone confirm if they had the same Issue.
I am from uae brought note 8 64 gb dual sim.

I don't know how to check, but I've had 3 Note 8s and they've all started up with the setup procedure. None have gone straight to the home screen.

It's definitely been opened before, and they went through setup and then re-sealed the phone.
Common practice here in Pakistan, probably happens in the UAE as well.
Where did you buy the phone from?
Have to put a local sim card in to unlock region lock.
Sent from my SM-N950U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Most likely opened by the reseller to insert region SIM and make a 5 minute call to unlock the phone. If you by from Clove in UK, they give you the option to allow them to perform this procedure.
Most likely, the reseller just skipped the Google/Samsung customization just to make the call. Who did you buy it from?
I brought from a local store person in uae..
But I have brought so many phone no one had this thing so is there any where to find our if this used by someone or reseller has just used it..

Does it matter? Just factory reset the phone. Boot into download mode to see what the System shows as. If everything shows as Official, you should be good to go.
Did it have the front and back clear plastic film on the phone?

I got mine from Clove UK. They opened it, made a 5min call to lift the region lock, but they also reset the phone before shipping. Mine booted to the setup. In fact I couldn't 3ven tell they used the phone, not a single smudge on it anywhere. Only indication was the seal was broken & they even did than cleanly.
Was your seal broken? That's not something you can easily fake not being previously broken.

If the phone has root, you can use the Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app to check for the Usage History (Headset Connect Counter, Charger Connect Counter, S-Pen Detach Counter).
Anyway you cal also use this app to check for the device's refurbishment (left-side menu > "Refurbishment Check").

Yes it is.
Glad that you find it useful.
Just because on your initial boot up it goes to the home screen, doesn't mean that it was pre-owned or used. Here in Japan I went to the store (phone carrier) and got a new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 last week , and they asked what language I wanted, and my girlfriend said English. Due to my slow Japanese , I didn't realize that they were going to quickly set it up there. So, while they were putting in the SIM, which is standard practice at the store, they quickly set it to English.
Nothing else was done though, so as soon as I got home, I was able to update all of the apps etc.
(I'm still using the original protective plastic, until I get to one of my workplaces where it's pretty much dust free, before I put my own screen protector on.)
Like someone said here, you can do a factory reset if you really want to go through the setup yourself.
I really love this phone. First new device for me in 5 years! If I'm honest, I can't wait to get a flip case for it. Then it will feel more gripable in the hand. I'm just using the included plastic case for now. I've yet to see a Samsung case yet, but I've only been to 3 stores so far. :good:
I don't have that issue.
