Hey guys, so how's the minimum brightness of the Mi Max 3? I'm thinking of picking one up and I'd like to be able to use the Mi Max 3 in the dark without blinding myself. I can't seem to find info about minimum brightness anywhere so I thought I'd revive this thread to hopefully get some answers. Thanks in advance!

Minimum brightness is very low in brightness. No problem at all reading in the dark.
If the screen is to bright I usually start this app and turn it down to 15
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/giraffine.dimmer/
Very useful at the cinema or airplane where you have a lot of people around you and you don't want to disturb them.
Or get blinded by a phone that has a very bright screen even at the lowest setting like my Togari had I turned this app on before going to bed when I had that phone.
Otherwise it was like getting scorched by the sun when looking at the clock or adding a note that I forgot before falling asleep!

Am I alone here when I say i'd like to be able to dim this thing a lot more, occasionally?
Thus far I can't find a way to do so. Does anyone know of a way to dim the screen beyond the limitations of the brightness settings?

you are not alone, I run at 0% brightness all day and God knows i want even darker at night
Same here. At night i sometimes think the brightness has been turned up. I use at it around 10% during the day and it feels it is way too bright at night

download "screen filter" from the market.

You got there before me Bendoe, yep, Screen Filter works a treat people, just be sure not to set it too low when you first use it, else you won't "see" anything if you do lol.

Also I recommend running a program with a 'night mode'

totally worked!
I am still awaiting my Galaxy Note, but perhaps the following could offer a solution.....
[MOD]Lower Auto-Brightness levels to save battery
This is a mod for the Galaxy S 2 but in theory the method should be ok to apply to the Note. However that said, I have not tried it on the Note (or successfully on my S2 as I always have trouble recompiling the apk) but hopefully it could help some as by applying the mod you can change the default 'lowest value' of auto-brightness from something from around 35 to 5 (on a scale from 0-255) making it light up less in dim environments.

The native web browser has 3 energy saving settings that make the screen even darker than 0 brightness, but there's no such setting for the screen in general. I agree that the screen in this device is incredibly bright, and in complete dark you could turn it down a lot more. I'm typing this by daylight with screen brightness at minimum and I find it enough. Of course you need more if the screen is directly on the sun light, but no screen can compete with a nuclear furnace 1 million km wide.
I don't see why people would want to have such a dim screen on their phone, 10% and below also...
What is the point in having a gorgeous nice and bright Amoled screen only using it at 0% brightness?
It's like me buying a Lamborghini and never going any quicker than 50mph...
The Note has such a wonderful screen and it's such a waste when it's dim most of the time...
My screen is on 90% brightness 24/7 and I get 2-3 days use out the phone.
Running my Note with 10 or 20% will get me an extra day or two out the battery but then it means looking at an ugly, dark & very dim screen...

Maybe because it IS subjectively too bright in certain scenarios? Like at night for example? (The key work being subjectively.)
And for some, the battery life is more important than somewhat nicer looking screen - I find the screen good enough even at low brightness. The colour rendering naturally suffers, but it's not too bad.

A dim screen is not ugly, at least not to my eyes
Haha, I love the screen and even at night I love the colours/brightness to be STRONG.
Any less than 50% brightness is too dark for me..
Maybe it's coz I sit a few feet away from my 32'' LED IPS TV & therefore I'm used to bright screens...
I just tried the screen brightness on 0% and it looks terrible, weak and washed out colours, I dunno how others are saying it's still too bright...
How do you guys do it?

in complete darkness, at 0% this screen is way too bright. it is absolutely terrible for your eyes to look into it when the lights are out and one absolutely needs some way to dim it further. i can tell you that if you think otherwise, you are damaging your eyes and might want to reconsider how you view screens in general.
best,
jason
I sometimes use my phone in bed at night and on the lowest setting the screen is too bright. It lights up the room and makes it difficult for my girlfriend to sleep. So I found some screen dimming apps and I'll use one or more of them at the same time to significantly dim the screen to an acceptable level.
The main one I use is adjustable: BackLightFilter
Others: Screen Filter, Dimmer (Night Mode)
I really wish CyanogenMod was available for the Note. It contains a Render Effect which lets you turn off red, green, blue, or a combination of those from your screen. I'd leave only red on for good night viewing. Anyone know of an apk or other way to implement this function without having it baked into a ROM?

If you are just reading, a book, or xda, it really doesn't matter what the colors are. It is annoying for many to read on a brightly lit screen. This is why the original kindle continues to sell well.
I did the white on black mod for opera and its my preferred browser now.

In the dark 1/5th the top corner from the 2nd display down the phone is lit and bleeding light. Woke up to check time, for the first time last night and thought "oh the screen cracked?!"
LG V10
I had a similar experience with the guy above and i felt it is great to put the phone face down even though it doesnt really bother me with second screen being always up. However, i think the phone gets too dark on lowest brightness for me to read or view videos so i am not sure if that is good or not. I guesd i have to use apps to adjust the lowest brightness to be brighter LOL(First world problem).
Never turned down that much ... but good enough the one time I used it.
On my HTC M8, I had to use Screen Filter to reduce the brightness when using the phone in complete darkness. On the V10 I don't need that app, the minimum brightness is low enough for night use.
Minimum brightness is a tad to bright for me. As is automatic brightness in general. It worked for me on Galaxy S5, but now I manually adjust it as automatic is just to bright!

Use screen filter
Never even considered minimum brightness setting mattered, everybody always concerned about outdoor viewing, but for the first time ever, i had someone yell to turn off my phone at the theater the other night, so yeah, this phone stays bright, and apparently pisses off movie goers.
Agreed... the min brightness is still bright lol ... i recommend Twilight app ... you can also reduce the blue light to somehow help with your sleep.
FYI, if you're rooted, you can use Tasker (or others) to set the screen brightness a good bit lower. Actually controls the hardware, rather than using an overlay. If anyone's interested, I'll post instructions.
Can you post please? Thanks much!

Comparing it side by side with my Note 7 (awaiting return box) It's significantly brighter at minimum brightness setting. Easily readable in a well lit room which is way too bright in my opinion.

The screen at 0% is a good bit brighter than my GS7 Edge was, but i knew that was going to happen coming to an LCD screen from an Amoled.
I remember the moto x pure had a mod that would allow 0 to be much darker.. i need that on this phone. it's way too bright. needed root though.

If you're unrooted this is a big battery drain. Lux throws on what is essentially a screen filter, and since it's not at a system level it's constantly using extra resources to keep it afloat.
I agree though, this screen is way too bright even on the lowest setting
0% is too bright in bed. Lg needs to lower this
Anyone else experiencing wonky auto-brightness too? Sometimes ill lay on the couch during the DAY and it lowers itself to 0%, and other times when im in bed at night with all the lights off, and the damn thing will be at 30% ..?

You've got no idea how bright my previous G Flex 2's 0% brightness. It nearly blind my eyes in the dark.
Seriously, G Flex 2's 0% is like 30% or 40% in V20. So, I'm quite happy with V20's brightness in the dark.
Dimmest setting is still too bright on my lg v20. Had to install and use Lux yet again to make it dimmer. I thought there would be no need for Lux app in year 2017 but i was wrong.

Have been noticing this behavior for past few days. Can't tell if it's software related ie. App that's causing it vs. The rom software change due to app causing it.
I wanted to do a full recovery and see how my phone behaves.
Have you done a full recovery yet?
Way too bright.. I had considered installing Twilight, and then I found Dimmer, which is open source and only like 400kb. (F Droid - couldn't be happier)

Minimum brightens is so low that you even in complete dark will set it to 5% not all the way down.

Minimal brightness is too low for me. It is about 5-6% /sys/class./leds/lcd-... - 227/4095. Will try to change minimal value./
With auto-brightness mode it goes down(to 5%) when I change phone position from horizontally to perpendicularly.
Miui Eu 9.5.4 stable.
It's hard to see details at minimum brightness, so as comments above I set the brightness about 5%.
Though minimum brightness is very good for readers. Especially for manga readers.

Here system shows the actual value of brightness - cannot be changed.
System can learn - will remember your preferences till next restart.
It is good enough!
