Backup/restore internally formatted SD partition - Magisk

I'm using TWRP with Magisk and I do a regular backup of my whole phone using TWRP, but I've noticed that on restore I seem to have lost data, which I believe corresponds to whatever was on my SD card. My SD is also formatted as internal storage in Android settings. Usually I need to reinstall a few apps that have gone missing and some associated data and files.
I recognize this is a newb/basic question, but what can I do to avoid this? TWRP seems to allow me to backup two separate "data" partitions, which I would have guessed would have been true internal + SD. But it doesn't seem to work that way.

I also use SD card as internal and TWRP doesn't recognize it

[Q] GNote SD Card Management Internal & External

I am coming from a phone that had only internal memory used for app storage and had an external micro SD for misc storage, but the GNote has an Internal SD card. I was wondering what I should store there & if I can change the size of it?
Also, if I flash a ROM using CWM will the internal SD card format? If it does I will only store unimportant data there, but if it is permanent then I wouldn't mind storing more data there. Also, is that considered the data partition? Any info/pointers/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
The internal sd card is a partition on phones memory.
When you flash new ROM (wipe - rom) or wipe data manually you delete system and data partition. 'Internal sd card' stays intact.
So you can store on it whatever you want.
For example - I'm yousing it for everything except music ,music stays on external sd card.
Thanks. Since, I had a 16GB card from my previous Droid X with a bunch of files on there I decided to transfer all of my camera photos and application data onto the phone's partition. Now I just have my MP3's, Titanium Backups, & Nandroid Backups on the SD Card.
its good for your backups

OK, just to pick up on this, what is the folder where your music is, named? Just /Music in root?
Next question, if I have 2 folders named /Music in both internal SDcard and external SDCard root, will the device recognise both these music "locations"? or can there only be one Music location?
No matter where you copy it, device will recognize music files and add to Music Player application.
I have mp3 s scattered all over on the external sd card.

May be it's because of Media Scanner. It scans for known file types. So you don't need to have particular files in particular folders.

SD card not detecting after ext4 partition Milestone

I am using Motorola Milestone.
I formatted my mobiles 8GB SD card creating two partitions, 7.4 GB FAT32 & remaining Ext4 for app2SD using MiniTool partition wizard.
After flashing latest MIUI ROM using OR, (at that time card was working). Once after booting to ROM milestone is not detecting the card. Options for mount card & format card are disabled.
Any solution?
Tried on a PC?
Have you tried using the card on a PC (using a SD Card adapter) ? If that detects, then milestone should detect it too. You can also try using parted that comes with Open Recovery. Try using this tutorial: www dot mrmuh dot com /2012/01 /update-a-motorola-milestone-from-motorola-firmware-to-cyanogenmod-7/. Look at the Step 4 Prepare for Apps2Ext. That has some details on partitioning.
A bit late but you can try making the partition using gparted, it always worked for me...
i ever used ubuntu and gparted to formating sd card.
U set both partitions with primary? this can make a card not work!
See first the Class of SD the Class 2, only support Ext 3 & 4, this is depend the Class of the SD, pull the SD on Mobile, and insert again, the Android check to any errors, this not work, use a SD Card Reader, and use Partition Magic, and delete all partitions of the SD, in Androidiani Recovery, in the menu (i dont remember the sub-menu) this says to Apply App2SD, they create a partition ext3 or 4 in your SD and found perfect =)
Cyas and I wait my quickly reply found it =)
Maybe your ROM doesn't support EXT4, try using EXT3 instead.

Sorry, now I have looked at the date of your post and I think I am a little late with the explanation.

Flashed 906 and Lost Internal Storage/SD Card

Hello all,
After flashing 906 I am having an issue where my internal storage/SD card do not mount/unmount properly. It seems the issue happens once I connect my D3 to a PC via a USB cable. The first problem is that even when I have it set to charge only the internal storage/SD card still get presented to my Windows PC as logical drives. This never happened before. If I disconnect the USB cable the internal storage/SD card do NOT get mounted back to the D3. I literally have to reboot the D3 in order to get back the internal storage/SD card.
Anyone else having this very weird issue?
Thanks,
Steve

CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.4 - Can't mount SD card

I have a Galaxy Note with "CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.4".
I am trying to install cm-10-20121007-NIGHTLY-n7000 from a 1 GB SD card formatted as FAT32.
I boot into Recovery and navigate to "choose zip from sdcard" and receive a message stating "E: Can't mount /sdcard/"
I don't understand what is wrong.
The card is fully working. If I boot into Android and plug the cable in, I can read/transfer data within Windows with no issues.
Move the file to internal SD card. Try flashing the CM file from Internal SD card.
Try flashing from internal sdcard and make sure you were on safe kernel before flashing

How do I access the "internal SD card?"
When I plug the phone into my PC, I get: Card (977 MB) and Phone (11 GB).
The ROM is currently on Card (977 MB).
