ROM flashing sim locked phone - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi,
Can I flash an unbranded stock ROM on my Note 8 before I do the sim unlock via code? The code takes several hours to arrive, and I could setup my phone until then, but I do not know if there is any problem in flashing the unbranded firmware before it is sim unlocked.
Thanks

SM-N950F. Vodafone branded and I want to flash European unbranded ROM.
I saw a post on sammobile since Galaxy S4, where one got a reply that before flashing the unbranded ROM he should sim unlock it first...old situation, but just want to be sure

Help needed unlock

Hello
I have unlocked my s6 by using the metro pcs firmware upgrade method .
I have reflashed the t mobile deoxed version rom .
All was working fine until few hours ago when my phone stopped receiving network .
Reboot didnt work too until i switched on wifi back on .
Is it something to really worry about ?
One more queery: once i unlocked my phone does it mean its permanently unlocked to any network because right now im residing in asia .

I think both questions have the same answer, you can't use any other firmware other than metro pcs. I remember seeing that in a different thread. If you paid it off free and clear call tmobile and they should permanently unlock it for free. I think all you need is your imei or serial number.
So can i reflash the metro pcs firmware and still have the device unlocked ?
I have purchased the unlock code off one of the leading sites on web.
I called T-mobile and pestered the hell out of them and they in return pestered the hell out me, in the end I have an unlocked phone with no flashing this and that.

I can't give you a answer but why not call tmobile like ipaq_101 did? That way you don't need to care what firmware or rom your on, it will be universally unlocked. If long distance calling is a issue you can use the online help, just make sure the first rep you talk to knows you won't stop bothering them until it's unlocked.
Is it not possible to install a ROM and then, say, flash a MetroPCS modem or something? For the record, I'm in the same predicament; I'd like to flash a ROM, but am running stock MetroPCS firmware that allowed me to use an unlock code.

You can flash any compatible ROM. I Odin flashed the MetroPCS firmware only so that I could permanently unlock the SIM. (I found that the T-Mobile Device Unlock is buggy and not exactly permanent). Then I flashed the international "F" version of Alliance ROM along with UniKernel. Been working great!
As long as you don't ever flash a T-Mobile radio, you'll stay unlocked!

samsung galaxy note 5 n920f

HI, i had this version and i didn't find any data related to it like firmware , i noticed that everything run smoothly and mobile run the latest update (your system is up to date ) lollipop and model n920f was written on the back although of that when i tried to use Samsung info apk it showed that phone made in Korea and it was Verizon version n 920v so i figured out that phone was a Verizon version and was moved to china to be unlocked and back was replaced also so, am i right ? and if i am right , can i download Verizon marshmallow update without problems.
I thought the f was an international version which hadn't been released. Its usually the tag for european models, which of course wasn't released for the note 5.

I know that it seems to me an assembled version hardware mad in Korea for American company Verizon and was sent to china to be unlocked version so they changed the model to n920f instead of n920v and applied modified soft and kernel and they replaced the back also and wrote n920 f
What do you think bonerp ?
Any ideas guys

The 'F' variant for Samsung devices is usually for European countries, but Samsung never released Note5 officially in Europe.
There is no N920F, the international variant is the N920C, If the actual device is N920V then those firmware should work.
Download and install : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en_GB
And see what the bootloader and modems are, they should specify what the actual phone is.
Remember that you are responsible for what you do to your device so proceed with caution and always back-up your data.
Here are screenshots from Samsung info apk , what do you think ?

It's a sprint model, you should be able to flash N920P firmware; It seems like the phone is running a custom ROM which has the CSC of the N920V.
Again you are responsible for what you do to your device so make a back-up before you attempt anything.

Depending on phone info apk it showed that model is n920v Verizon but you said its a sprint version i am confused.
how did you know it is a n920p not n920v ?

The bootloader and baseband belong to N920P.

It's kind of confusing because your KNOX counter is not tripped but the firmware on your device seems to a mix between N920V and N920P with the Chinese and Sprint CSC

I'll be honest if there was a way to unlock sprint phones that way we'd already know about it, put in a T-Mobile sim and an att sim if they both work it's unlocked you can use any SIM cards if they work it's unlocked as long as you don't use sprint and Verizon for the rest. I'm very confident it's unlocked if it's not, it can be done easily

Flash stock rom without Sim Unlock

Ive just got my new P9 on O2 UK contract, which comes with O2 splash screen and Bloat.. As Ive just unboxed the phone... Can I flash the unbranded UK/EU stock rom without Sim Unlocking my P9, I know you can do this with Samsung and XPERIA handsets..
Thanks
OK, took some searching .. but found it.. Answer is Yes... you dont need Sim unlock or Bootloader unlock to use a stock Rom.. but you do need to force flash. Its all in here:
YOU do this at your own Risk..

Yes, you should be seeing a "enter code" sim lock screen. T-mobile uses a unlock app. if your phone was unlocked before on t-mobile it can be unlocked after you flash back to t-mobile firmware.(and may need to run the unlock app).
I have gone back and fort on 2 of my SM-G920T phones between t-mobile and other firmware including the metro PCS SM-G920T1 one so it should work to go back.
Sounds like you need to re-download the stock t-mobile firmware and flash in odin.

99% sure will be locked again once you go back to t-mobile as they use an app to authenticate.

If it was unlocked before on t-mobile you should be good. most you would need to do is run the t-mobile unlock app. just make sure you have a twrp backup just in case you need to go back to the rom that is working.

I need your help

I bought yesterday a at&t branded Note 5(N920A). Since I live in Greece and I don't have an at&t sim, I can't receive ota updates and must flash every new version via Odin. Can I use an unbranded official rom from another model number, and which unbranded rom do you suggest to flash; Thank you very much in advance.
I don't think you can use other official roms, because the AT&T model has a locked bootloader.
Sent from my SM-N920I using Tapatalk
Can I unlock the bootloader; Is it easy to unlock it;
I thought another solution. If I buy from ebay an at&t sim card and put it whenever a software update release for this phone, it will work right;
