Sim Unlock - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi Guys,
I have a Note 8 and I had it sim unlocked thru an online service. I was a bit dissapointed when I found out that I was only able to use my sim 1 as call and text only like the sim 2 slot after the unlock and I could not use it for data 4G. The tech guy from the sim unlocking service told me its with the software of my phone from the original carrier that has not allowed me to use data on 2 sim slots except its original carrier. Can anyone please help me how to fix and enable 4G to work on either yhe 2 sim slots?
Thanks very much!

I don't think that is carrier related at all, even my unlocked/international version only allowed 2g/3g in the second sim slot

Check that your APN settings are correct for your provider.

I would imagine sim 1 would allow 4g from any carrier as long as you have a 4g sim card/plan

Is the phone sim unlocked? I don't know how it works with Sprint but that would be the case with GSM providers
If it's Sprint, it's CDMA.AT&T and T-Mobile are the only GSM providers in the US. However, it should work there if you get the SIM unlocked. The SIM unlock code is formulated based on the IMEI, so there are three ways to get it:
From Sprint. Probably the simplest, but tricky if you're not the phone's original owner.
Pay a site or unlocking service with the algorithm that decodes it from the IMEI. Usually runs around $10-$20.
Try the steps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2586704
You can also try this app, but it only works on rooted phones running the original ROM:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.viper.simunlockhelperfree
Good luck.
How do i go about unlocking the Sim? I cant get the unlock box where I put in the code to come up!

Bro, A CDMA PHONE CANNOT BE UNLOCKED. IT WON'T EVEN WORK ON ANOTHER CDMA CARRIER LIKE VERIZON. ONLY SPRINT SIMs WILL WORK.
Make sure u buy a GSM phone if u plan 2 use it on another carrier.
But the phone uses GSM! It picks up the network here but I just cant get the unlock box

Then it simply isn't a Sprint handset. CDMA phones can only work on that particular network. The phone is custom-made just for that network

[Q] dual SIM question

Quick question for you dual SIM users.
Does the Moto G2 support 3G on both Sims?
I intend using two three SIM cards, but they only support 3G. So if SIM two is only working on 2G it would be no good to me.
Thanks
The data connection is for one sim only, you get to choose if you use data on sim one or two, data is automatically change sim, for example from 3g sim1/2g sim2 to 2g sim1/3g sim2
Thanks, I'm with you. So with my two three Sims there would be only one SIM on at any one time.
I have I signal SIM moto g1 now, and if I switch to 2g only the three SIM no longer works.

Both Sim work at the same time while I'm using 3g in any Sim.
Data is available only for one Sim at a time, but the change is really fast and automatic when you select which Sim to use for data
I use mine with same carrier, it uses the 850mhz band.
Remember this phone is dualsim standby, it means if you're using voice in one Sim the other is unreachable.

Yes just on most networks if you are on 2G the sim still works. On three they don't.
A three SIM won't work on 2G no calls text or anything.
So even with both sims in standby only one would receive calls, am I right?
Only way to receive calls on either SIM (from standby) on a moto g is if at least one SIM works on 2G?

I've own two dual sim phones s4mini (lost it) an this moto g 2014, both are stated as dual sim standby, I haven't notice any difference in the way they handle simcards/data/voice.
On both phones I've use same carrier/numbers, one is personal (same number for 10+ years) the other from work (same number for 5+ years).
I've never missed a call on either Sim.
Even if I'm downloading something I can receive calls and text messages on that sim the download stops but my phone core functionality is still a phone for both simcards with any combination of data in 2g/3g or 2g/2g.
I'm never going to carry two separated phones, for me is enough the dualisim standby functionality.
For you is a pain that your carrier don't support 2g network any dual sim standby won't work, you need a dual sim phone with two separate modems

Thanks for confirming that, only other thing I can do is use one SIM and activate call divert on the other number.
That's the main drawback with three only supporting 3G/4G

Dual Sim Issue

So I have my Verizon sim in tray 1 & my T-Mobile sim in tray 2. What I am trying to do is have the data push through the T-Mobile sim but still maintain calls and text coming in from Verizon sim. When I set Dial to sim 1 & Internet to sim 2 in the options it just shuts down the Verizon sim completely. What am I missing? Is what am trying to do not possible?
20 views and nada, come on someone has to have some input they can provide me lol
So I finally got the phone to keep both sims registered to their networks and my calls and sms work with it set to my Verizon sim but I can't get the data to push through on the T-Mobile sim!!!!! AHHHHHH
I think the Mi MIx only has 1 4G radio? So that if both SIM cards require 4G connection, only 1 can be connected at one time
I understand, this is exactly why I wanted this phone too! Where did you buy yours and how long till you received it?
No voice calls.

Can you tell me what you did? I have data and sms going through fine but no calls.
Thank you.
Has any one resolved this issue?
I recently got a VZW SIM card, and everything works when it's the only SIM in the Mi MIX...but if I also put in my Project Fi SIM...I cannot send SMS via my Project Fi SIM--which carriers my main number...even though MMS also works on my Verizon SIM card......

Not working with MetoPCS

I have the SM-N950F and I can't call or connect to 4g on the MetroPCS network I've tried multiple APN's but nothing works, when I try to make a call it just says not registered on network.

MetroPCS uses T-MOBILE networks just like Cricket Wireless, my current carrier, uses At&t. Have you tried any sim card from any other carrier to see if it's a problem with settings or with the sim card itself?
Sent from my Note 8 (SM-N950U1) using Tapatalk
Disregard this step because you have exynos.
I have it working for metropcs. Follow the guide for changing carriers and then use the "TMK" mobile code. I'd recommend the unlocked firmware (xaa) or else you'll flash tmobiles with all the bloat.
You will also need to call metropcs from a phone that you are not switching the sim on. They will ask for your imei number and switch it over. The sim cards used by metropcs only work for the phone that it is registered to.

[RROS v5.8.5] Che2-L11 Kirin 620 - Sim Cards not detecting!

So basically I have a phone purchased from UAE which I brought to India. I am using Jio 4G and BSNL 2G in SIM 1 and 2. So here's what happens:
When I have Jio in slot 1 and BSNL in slot 2: No sims are detected
When I have ONLY Jio in slot 1 or 2: It detects it in both the slots
I also keep getting these Mobile Broadcast messages (even when I disabled every single one of them in the settings). I cannot read them because they're in a different language. THIS IS CAUSING A MAJOR SPAM ISSUE.
PICS: https://imgur.com/a/drkox
What should I do to get the SIM cards to work? I believe this is an issue of region locking or registration or something like that.
Thanks.
Sim card needs to be able to support 4G or it won't work. But you don't need to have 4G connection, just sim that's capable for it. I believe that's the problem.

It does. I have a Jio 4G sim in it. Also, I keep getting Mobile Broadcast messages with the location of the cell tower and some in an unknown language.

Both sim cards need to be able to support 4G. I don't know about those messages, I've never had any.

Have you tried to swap your BSNL sim to 4G capable sim like I suggested. At the moment that's probably only solution, until you have confirmed it doesn't fix it or that your BSNL sim already is 4G capable.

I don't even want the BSNL sim in that phone anymore. I just wanna use Jio 4G without the annoying mobile broadcast. Please find the screenshots on the main post.

Check Messaging->Settings->Advanced->Wireless Alerts->Settings Maybe you can disable them there.
