I have a vendor ROM on my Mi Mix: MIUI Global 8.0.7.0.0 (MAHCNDI)
Has anyone else found this ROM on their phone?
It came with gapps installs and has been completely fine so far.

Ebay
Here's a good question - how do you tell if there's any dodgy spyware or whatever installed on a vendor rom?

Same for me. My concern is that I think there should be an update. That is not the latest software revision...

From what I've read vendor roms have 5 digits, stock roms have 4 digit version numbers.
I too, have this ROM. I've had this phone for 3 years and love the design. Just last week, the screen started separating from the frame on the right side of the phone. The flash doesn't work anymore and it has a small chip on the right top corner of the glass. I don't know how this happened because I take superlative care of my devices. Anyway, I tried to find another new one from a seller and I DID find one on DH Gate that was selling them brand new for $192. At first I thought it was a hoax, but I bought it and it was delivered on Thursday. Monday-Thursday from China to Texas. I always choose expedited shipping. DHL usually delivers in 2 days from China to Texas.
That being said, the new one had some strange developer ROM on it and I did root it, but was having issues with the original ROM, so I reverted back to an older version that could be rooted. I bought my original Mi Mix from a seller on E-bay named manysellok. I ordered about 10 phones from that seller, so I like to go with sellers that I have a good experience with. I just wrote the seller tonight on 6-7-2020 and told them about my situation. The new ROM had the Mi store and the THEMES app are both in Chinese. No matter what I do, I cannot make them display English.

I'm not sure if I want to sell it or not. The display on the old one is much brighter than the new one.
This was the most expensive phone that I ever bought. I paid like $725 for it. It's still very usable, just that flash issue and the screen separating on the right side. Honestly, I don't notice it unless I view it from the right side. Using the phone normally I don't even notice it. Other than those 3 issues, the phone is pristine. I never hold it to my ear, I always talk with bluetooth. And I have been a germaphobe for about 35 years now, way before the corona virus came out. When I buy a used phone, usually on E-bay, I'll wipe it down about 3 times with Clorox bleach foamer. Then use Clorox wipes, then finally with alcohol. I don't allow germs on my phones. I wasn't really thinking about selling it, but if you really needed one, I can point you to the seller that I bought my new one from. He's in China. Choose expedited shipping and he'll ship it Fed-Ex. I got mine 2 days after he shipped it and I live in Texas.

Im using my Mix since 01.2017, no any separation anywhere no flash issue, yours might be reacting to bleach/alcohol. But I guess there's a special glue for it. I'd say go for it.

I didn't use all of the chemicals on this one because I bought it brand new.
I only do that with USED phones that I buy.
Check out the link I sent. He's a good seller and you'll get the new one fast with Fed-Ex.

Just got the device. I had planned on flashing a combination of firmware to enable the fingerprint sensor AND keep T-mobile wifi calling/vo-lte functional before later rooting it. At this point however I have just turned it on to make sure it works and verify wifi calling works.
To my surprise the fingerprint sensor is working out of the box. Can you think of any reason why this would occur?
Obviously I was not surprised at all that i can't seem to enable wifi calling or vo-lte. Does this mean I have an international firmware flashed right out of the box?

Maybe you didn't receive a US device or were sold a used device. Was the box sealed? Was is purchased directly from Amazon and not supplied by a third-party seller? From what I can tell Amazon itself does not seem to be selling those, only selling copies supplied by third-parties.
If box was not sealed, I'd say chances of it being a new phone are unlikely. Maybe like-new refurbished/used. That's very common.
I thought that was odd. The box wasn't sealed. Got it for 399 but it didn't say it was refurbished.
Does this mean battery life will be be garbage? That's my biggest fear with used. I baby my batteries.
I'm gonna reflash the firmware but if I can't get it to work I'm going to have them send me another.
New XZ1 Compact US Warranty/Latin American Firmware
So I checked the seller listing. Claims that it is "new" and "us warranty."
I've contacted Sony to see if they can give me any information on the device. I was hoping I could tell if it was refurbished based on the IMEI but doesn't look like that's possible.
I've reached out to the seller to see what they say and give them the opportunity to make it right.
However I did some digging with the secret phone codes... to find the firmware cda number. I cross referenced it with xperifirm. Turns out it's a generic latin american firmware. I'm trying to give the seller the benefit of the doubt, but I can't fathom any reason latin american firmware should be present on a new us warrantied device.
I'm going to wait to see what they say. It's killing me because I want to start customizing it.

I think I may have bought from the same seller you have. Did you return the phone or did you do something else? I called Sony too but from what they are telling me if i understood them right, If i change the latin american firmware to US firmware, I might lose my warranty.

Likely you won't have any warranty anyway as it isn't a US based device. Who knows?
I kept it anyway since I can't seem to find a new US device for a good price. I'm not pleased with that company though. I wanted them to send me a guaranteed new model since it came unsealed, with the warranty expiring before a year past my purchase date, and since I talked to sony and named they might have the IMEI logged. But they wanted me to first return the device and then they'd send out a new one. Had that happen too many times and then there is no replacement. What really upset me was that they fully acknowledged they are selling Non-US models but never changed the listing and would not give a discount for the less than authentic product.
I notified Amazon of the fraudulent ad. I doubt it will do anything. Perhaps you should do the same.
My thought about warranty is you could always play dumb with Sony and then the company you bought it from might actually be liable since they sold it as a US warrantied device. I wouldn't hold my breath though. In my case I'm going to unlock the bootloader, root it, etc so the chances of me sending it to Sony are very slim.
Do you ever notice how the manufacturer is always careful to say that you "Might lose your warranty"?
I always interpret that as it is probable that you will be denied a warranty claim until you get really angry with them and only then do you get what you deserve at the expense of your blood pressure rising excessively and causing the support rep to hate his/her job even more.
Eh, I got the same device from an Amazon reseller back in April. It was the Mexican firmware and all I had to do was change the language. FPS worked great out of the box so I didn't complain. The battery still works great to this day, and it was a flawlessly new device when it was delivered.
In late 2017 I flashed an X Compact to the UK firmware when I bought it used last year. Days later a portion of the screen died exactly one week before the warranty ended. I called up Sony to get an RMA # and after going through their diagnostics process all they asked was where I purchased the device from. I just said "Best Buy" and no other questions were asked, they gave me an RMA. I sent them the UK-flashed X Compact, they simply re-flashed it to the US firmware and fixed the screen so it worked like new.
I was pleased Sony didn't try to weasel out of fixing it, even though they could have argued their case. Definitely did NOT have that experience with LG when my US-bought Nexus 5 broke under warranty.

That's a bit annoying. Anyway, I'll report the seller too. I mean the phone looks like it's working great but because of the price, it's kinda annoying me a bit that I paid that price for a non brand new phone. I mean if they refund me a little bit, i think i'd be okay with it. They even emailed me back before I bought it saying that it does have US Warranty.
Also can anyone confirm if I change the firmware to the US firmware that doing that doesn't really remove the warranty? I mean i'm not rooting it or anything yet. Also, if I use like a UK firmware, would T-Mobile VoLTE and Wifi Calling work so that I can keep the fingerprint scanner?

No one here can confirm it, only provide anecdotal evidence. My post above says Sony will still honor the warranty
So I live in Canada and I recently bought a MI 8 from AliExpress. From what I've read it's a chineese version of the phone that was unlocked to add the global rom.
After bricking it, I followed some online tutorials to disassemble the phone and put it into EDL mode. Upon attempting to flash the phone, I was told I could not flash the phone because my account does not have the permissions to flash. I looked around to see if there was a way around this (E.G copying the programmer without this retarded authentication from another older firmware) however it seems there's no 845 phone that has an old enough firmware where this authentication measure doesn't exist.
What's my best option here? Is there ANY way I can recover my phone or do I just have a $500 paperweight?
If the device was unlocked you can flash it in fastboot mode using Mi Flash Tool or flash the most important partitions through fastboot.

Some people that had this issue contacted the vendor to get the account and passcode, apparently due a Xiaomi management backlash, the vendors are happy to provide you with those credentials, in some cases at least.
If you bought the phone recently, I would file a complaint with Aliexpress and see if you can get a refund, you can find good deals on global devices on Amazon,

Are you sure it has 30Watt charger? Since I read somewhere that tencent version has got 18Watt charger while 512GB version comes with 30Watt charger.
Also Keep in mind if you going to buy from China, then be aware that there is unofficial tencent versions out there being sold with WW ROM instead of CN ROM and that makes your phone won't be receiving any OTA. So make sure you buy official one that comes with correct ROM.
My suggestion is to look for global 128GB/8GB tencent version that is official by Asus and not Chinese version.
Not last but least if you buy a Chinese version with WW ROM then return it asap and request a refund since that device won't have any valid warranty because of it using WW ROM and not CN ROM.
That is because seller who got the device has opened it and tampered with it which probably voided the warranty since he unlocked the bootloader. Asus themselves have stated on their forum about unofficial tencent versions are being sold with WW ROM which you should avoid since warranty won't be valid on them.
Also box from seller will be sealed again, so you will think it's been untouched.

According to following picture I found.
That I attached to this post it shows you tencent version from China has 18Watt not 30Watt charger and your friend is probably using official ROM then. Which is CN unless he has got global version.
It's actually fairly simple. This is regardless of whether it's the Tencent (China) model or not.
If it's the 8GB model, it'll have the 18W charger, the rectangular box and fewer LTE bands.
If it's the 12GB model (regardless of storage size), it'll have the 30W charger, the prism box and a greater number of LTE bands.
For what it's worth, I have the 8gb Tencent version and I'm in the US and use it with AT&T. Works fantastic and it's the best phone I've ever owned (and I've owned a lot). It does NOT receive OTA updates, but if you don't mind rooting to change the device fingerprint, you can then flash the updates as they are released (you can also unroot after the fingerprint is changed if you wish and still retain the ability to manually flash updates).
The 8GB version supports 3 out of the 9 bands used by ATT so you'll get some coverage but it'll be degraded compared to a phone with all the bands (less speed and more dead spots).
Okay to make things clear he told me he received an update once he unboxed it , will he be able to receive next upates .? Its 30 watt charger in rectangular box which i find kinda different from any other version , How to know the difference from the box its self before i buy

Reason why you aren't getting OTA is because you got unofficial tencent Version with WW ROM. So then bootloader has been unlocked and seller has reflashed it with WW ROM. Which has also voided your warranty.

Depends where you live. In my area AT&T only uses four LTE bands: 2, 4, 12, and 17, and every tower seems to always have at least bands 2 or 4. The ROG 2 Tencent supports bands 2 and 4. So I get excellent coverage and speeds typically average 20 to 30 Mbps down and 10 mbps up, though I have seen as high as 80 Mbps down. My previous phone was a Samsung Note 5 also on AT&T and I've seen no coverage or speed difference with my ROG 2.

Then he has got either unofficial one from China if that's where he bought his from or he has got global 128Gb version. So then it maybe does come with 30Watt charger.
So ask him where he bought the global version from. Don't buy China version
If it's 30w, it's just a case of the seller opening up the box, taking out the original 18w charger and replacing it with a 30w charger. Some sellers bundle it that way instead of giving the boxed version of the 30w charger. Some other sellers instead bundles the case, or the aerocooler. Depends on who sells it.
If the back is Tencent, the box is rectangle - It's Tencent. Period. The accessories can be anything else, it's just a matter of what the seller decides to sell the ROG with. It will probably still work fine for you, just whether you would prefer to have the peace of mind with a warranty or not. As for updates, just download it from Asus's website into phone root directory, and the phone will automatically update during restart.

Seller should not break seal on the box when it comes from the manufacture. Doing changes to the content with the phone makes the box unofficial. Since it did not come with correct content that it should have.
Never buy a device off a seller that has broken the sealing and then done changes since that is big no and risks are then more likely you got Chinese version with WW ROM which is then unofficial and have no warranty.
Asus themselves have warned about sellers out there are editing the devices by changing its ROM from Chinese to WW ROM and doing that needs bootloader unlock and that voids the warranty.

I agree with everything you say Jake - Albeit that being here at Asia for 15+ years taught me that market situation differs quite a bit in third world countries (or developing countries in Asia). Happy to explain long-form if you're curious.
All else being equal, yea warranty would be real nice to have in the long run.
Regards. I have a mi 11 ultra with stable global rom installed and unlocked bootloader. Can I lock the bootloader again with the global rom or would I have to put the one I had from China? thank you
You probably need to install the ROM you had on the device before, there may be some errors in the certificate so better install the ROM you had before
Hi
I killed a mi 11 by locking bootloader of Chinese model whilst global ROM was flashed
Could not boot due to "incorrect"software and could not reflash Chinese ROM as bootloader was locked and couldn't unlock bootloader again as locking does a full wipe and prevents re unlock
Search for paid EDL support. That's the way it goes when people relock BL and in parallel brick the phone
Search somewhere else since paid support must not be advertised here
I tried... Lol
I live in UK and contacted half a dozen independent repair services and I got the impression I knew more than they did about Xiaomi bootloader and edl flash software lol
In the end I sold it "as is" on ebay for about half what I paid for it as all the independent ppl wanted a non refundable service fee up front with no guarantee of repair
I knew the phone was repairable just not how to locate someone in UK with the software & the knowledge to force flash CN ROM back in

Sorry for the bad news of your decision, but people from Russia can do it remotely for 20 to 35$. easy fix in a 15 min's duration. and of course world wide, I've seen people from all around the world doing it.
if you had a search in this forum you could have found a few posts about it, and they all had it fixed straight away for a few bucks. you should have done a bit of a research, I could have bought it from you......

Sorry bro, I didn't mean that I am looking for one or to use you to get one. I meant to say that as long as any device got software issue, eventually there will be a solution, so no need to get rid of the device for that price. Be patient with any tech with a software delima, as long as it does not develop to hardware issue
