Safe to install august security patch? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hello friends, I got update for august patch but I want to root my device. But I can't find oem unclock button under developer option. So my question is
Is it to safe to install this update? Can I root my device with this august patch?
Another question, is there any trick to skip 7 day waiting to show oem unlock button?
Thanks

Not sure about the rooting part, but the very first pinned post on the guides and discussions for the note 8 has a way that might work for the OEM unlock button.

for all the Mate S Owners who updated to Android 6.0 with an pushed OTA Update. There is currently no way to downgrade to 5.1.1.
If you upgrade without an unlocked bootloader, your device will be FRP locked. The not visible OEM-Unlock option is some kind of bug. without it you´re not able to unlock the bootloader and rollback.
It´s also not possible to force update with the 5.1.1 Update.app. It will cancel after 5% and abort the update. If not, your device will most probably get bricked because of an update error.
You have to wait for a new update or an official rollback file from huawei
and please stop spamming this forum. No one will help you if you keep going on.

Great!
Wondering if someone could point me to a guide on how to downgrade to oreo and unlock the bootloader on the 7 Plus?
No need to downgrade. Open developer settings. Disable and re-enable it. You can enable OEM unlock

After unlocking the bootloader, can I still roll back to stock and receive official OTA updates from Nokia?

Generally there is a check and ota updates aren't allowed for unlocked bootloader. You should be able to download the update and sideload it.
So just to confirm, if i root my N7+, i lose my warranty and even if i revert back to stock and relock the bootloader then i still won't receive OTA updates and my warranty will still be gone?

I was able to update OTA just fine with bootloader unlocked using stock recovery. The check might be of you root, but I'm not sure.

This questions should be adequately asnswered by official support.
The warranty agreement states that it doesn't cover damage caused by modified software. In real terms that means bricking your phone, in actuality it depends on what they categorise as such.

The unofficial unlocks aren't registered to Nokia and they probably have no way to check that it was unlocked. So, lock the bootloader and you should be good for warranty.

Is there really no possible way to unlock the bootloader without paying?
I'm not willing to pay for something that might not work...
Edit: even worse. I would have to pay 7$ (but out of stock, wtf?) to have someone I don't know remotely take over my computer.

There's currently no way you can unlock without paying. There are 2 options though. If you have a Nokia Care around you, you can convince them to flash an older version of software (before August 2018). Then you can simply buy the unlock key and use it.
Else the remote is the only option. I can offer those too (but for $8). I have some good reviews from people if that helps. I know it's still dealing with strangers and for your safety and security, you can run Windows inside a virtual machine (Virtual Box and VmWare do good). And that ensures that the remote person will only have access to the guest Windows which won't expose your host files in any way. You can destroy the guest install after that [emoji106]

I want to refresh my phone but I have yet to unlock the bootloader. Ive a few questions if anybody can advise please
If I want to unlock the bootloader and root the phone, I'll obviously have to wipe the phone during the process and lose data etc. I downloaded Swift Back up - which backs up to G Drive. Would it be possible to restore some/if not all data after I put say Lineage OS on my phone?
Or does anybody have any suggestions to back up my stuff before I go through the process to root. I suppose one way would be to manually drag/drop anything across while connected in Windows.
Any thoughts please?
Bootloader must be unloaded!!!

Nokia 7 plus - root and unlock
Hi guys, I need to root and unlock bootloader of a NOKIA 7 plus.
Could you please help me?
Thanks,

will we ever get a Nokia 8 custom ROM?

The official bootloader unlock method has been out for a while. Its almost 2 years since the phone has been released. I was hoping by now maybe some developer would have picked this phone up and put it to use. Is there a reason why nobody has bothered to start development on this phone and build a custom ROM? I think this phone has great potential given its specs and price. It would be nice to so further customizations beyond those allowed by rooting the phone.
I could do it too if I had any amount of knowledge about Android development, but sadly im a noobie.
What are your thoights?
It's not possible I guess. And Nokia has locked down. Unlocking bootloader. I have Nokia official app and it says Device not support.

No, Nokia hasnt locked it down. The bootloader unlock method only works up to the November Oreo security update. Just downgrade to Oreo November security update then unlock the bootloader, and then upgrade back to Pie.
See this thread for instructions https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-8/development/unofficial-official-nokia-8-bootloader-t3898418

I would suggest using another pc and unlock the bootloader.

Question Is root even possible on my device?

Hello everyone,
As the title suggests I'd like to know if rooting is even possible on my S21 Ultra (US Variant). I've spent the whole night looking for tutorials, forums or any indication that it can. All of them pointing me to the "OEM Unlock" option that needed to be tooled first. Thing is, my device does not have that option whatsoever. I've messed with the time settings, date settings and everything else I could do in between. Still, no luck. Now, I'm fairly new to rooting. I've rooted many years ago and don't remember it being thus complicated. I found a tutorial which stated the new Canary Build of Magisk supported Android 12. Thing is, I Cannot find a way to unlock the bootloader. So my question is if it's even possible. Because if it isn't, I don't want to continue wasting my time. If it is, can some direct me the right way please. I've attached an a image with my software build.
You'll find OEM unlock in developer options. In settings, go to about phone, then software information, then find build number. Click on this multiple times until you get a message saying developer mode.
Go back to settings, then click developer options, then find OEM toggle.
PS do this at your own risk..
Hey,
Thanks for your response. My device does not have that option at all is what I'm trying to say. Its no where in this menu and I have tried everything imaginable.
Have a search for no oem unlock on google, something about setting date backwards good luck.
Post your phone model and build number. Some US phones cannot be unlocked.
If you haven't updated your device you should be able to unlock the bootloader for a fee.

I should delete my prior post... I didn't see the image in the first post. Looks like you have a snapdragon model, already at bootloader rev 5. Cannot be rooted. Also, your phone is from Verizon, so even if it were rev 1 it wouldn't be able to be rooted.
