Issues with WiFi for certain apps. - Nokia 7 Plus Questions & Answers

Nokia 7plus India version. Not rooted. Have been encountering issues with certain apps over WiFi as the app doesn't load data on wifi just keeps attempting to load content. Twitter, Amazon, Instagram, yahoomail, all have issues. All of these apps work perfect on mobile data. But apps like whatsapp, kaspersk,flipkart, you tube, all browsers work well with WiFi as well as mobile data. So nothing wrong with WiFi as such. MAY month update from Nokia had this corrected, but June update brought the issue back. Currently on August security patch, continue to have the same problem . Anyone else facing same issue? Any fixes? Saw some comments in net from users encountering same problem

Looks like it's common issue across Nokia devices. Shocking.
'Search WiFi issues with Nokia' on Google. So many people facing the issue and Nokia hasn't fixed it yet.

I am having the same issue on Android Pie beta. I tried the following to resolve the issue but it still persists!
1. Hard Reset my phone through recovery.
2. Hard and Soft Reset my Wifi Router.
3. Updated Wifi router firmware.
4. Reinstalled all the apps which were not working on Wifi.
5. Cleared Cache and Storage of these apps.
6. Changed Wifi router settings to IPV4 instead of IPV6.
7. Reverted back to Oreo 8.1 (updated upto July Security Patch)
8. Checked if these apps work on other phones on the same Wifi settings and found that it works perfectly!
None of these helped. In the end I have to shift to mobile data to check out these apps and its annoying!
Any other suggestions other than the ones i have tried above?

Learn going back to April security patch solves it. By the way how did u go back to June security patch?

I did when I reverted back to Oreo 8.1. After that I got 2 OTAs consecutively before I could even setup the phone upto June Security Patch. And then updated to July the next day. But the issue persists after the various updates.

After a lot of research into trying to understand the issues that I was seeing, I finally figured out that this was a IPv6 related issue. As it happens, in my case, it turned out that my router was causing the issue and not the phone itself. Please note that you may be seeing either the same issue or you may have completely different issue, but I hope the description below will give you some clues and directions that you may want to investigate.
The primary issue was that my router was returning a bad IPv6 address whenever a device connected over WiFi. I figured this out by running network diagnostics using the Netalyzr app from the Play store. When connected thru WiFi, this app reported a bad IPv6 address, but when connected thru a 4G LTE connection, it didn't report that as a problem. As a secondary check, I also used the IPv6 status widget to verify the network status when connect thru either of the connections. Again, this clearly showed that my phone was only on IPv4 when connected via WiFi, but was on IPv6 when connected vi 4G LTE.
Net, Net (no pun intended), some apps on the phone refused to work via the IPv4 address and required a working IPv6 address to work. Others were probably more tolerant and would fall back to work via IPv4 when they found a bad IPv6 address on the phone. Not sure if the apps should be made tolerant or the phone networking should be tolerant enough to do the IPv4 fallback for all apps. This is something that Nokia could investigate as a possible issue in the firmware.
Anyway, subsequently I checked many IPv6 related settings on my VDSL router (DLINK-224), but couldn't resolve the issue myself. I ended up calling my ISP (Airtel) and asking them about their support for IPv6. Initially, they claimed to support it, but later confirmed that for now, they don't support IPv6 for broadband connections. However, they sent over a technician who was extremely helpful and for no obvious reason, replaced my DLINK router with Huawei HG630. Again, for reasons not clear to me, this router started giving valid IPv6 addresses whenever a device connected over WiFi. My guess is that internally, its doing some IPv6 to IPv4 translation or tunneling, but at least the IPv6 address it was giving out were valid and working. Of course, as soon as my phone got a working IPv6 address, all those misbehaving apps started working and I have no issues any more. Interestingly, after the router change, ipv6-test.com tests now shows DNS6+IPV4 as reachable, even though it clearly shows IPv6 connectivity as 'NOT SUPPORTED'. In any case, as long as all my apps work well over both WiFi and 4G, I am a happy camper !
If you folks are still seeing these issues, please try the apps and sites I have linked above and see if you have the same issues. If so, you may be able to find a resolution thru your CSP or may be able to resolve the IPv6 address issue another way. All the best !

Thank you for the detailed analysis and your work around! I tried to change the required settings on my Dlink DSL 2750u router. I even tried to disable IPV6. But somehow it gets turned on automatically. I think its a problem with the router as you mentioned perfectly. I have contacted my ISP (BSNL) for some support, but I doubt they could help. Now only Instagram wont work. Even I reverted back to stable 8.1 with August Security Patch but still it wont work.

Grey WiFi icon

Got me a new router from my ISP, of course there were issues instantly! Having problems connecting to wifi. Called my ISP and they said there is a bug somewhere in the router or in android itself. The router is a ZYXEL P-2812HNU-F1. They said I needed to get a static ip adress to each device. I got my Galaxy S2 up and running in no time, however, my HP Touchpad is not being so friendly. It says I'm connected but I get the grey wifi icon. Tried to disconnect and reconnect but no result. Also tried to forget the wifi and so on but no result. Also changed to b/g since it handles /n aswell. I've changed the router channel. In addition, my TP have begun to reboot randomly often in very fast cycles. I've flashed the Supreme mods a few days ago and everything worked flawlessly with my old router. Could the Supreme mod interfere with this maybe? Anyone please, this is so frustrating!

The wifi icon color is blue when you're connected to the Google servers. I remember reading something similar to your situation, I'll post a link if I find it. Meanwhile, you've probably tried this, but in case you haven't, try turning the router off for a while, then turn it back on again. You might want to go to a later build, they're quite stable. I'm one of the lucky ones, only had any wifi issues once, and turning the router off then back on solved it for me.

As you said, I've tried to switch off the router and put it back on but I tried it once again but no result. I've also removed the supreme mods but there is no difference. I still get the grey wifi icon. Maybe should try a newer build, so tiredsome though but maybe the only solution. Will call my ISP for a factory reset on the system aswell.
Edit: Managed to come up with a solution. My ISP wasn't of any help so I had to do something on my own. So, I changed the security to wpa instead of wpa2 and noticed that my tablet got connection! The thing is, I want to use the /n standard and wpa does not support that. So (again), I had to enable a second wireless network and luckily my router supports four. One network with wpa2 (laptop) and one with wpa (tablet). Not a pretty solution but it works!

I did read somewhere that giving the TouchPad a static IP address helped with a lot of WiFi problems, maybe its something you could try. I personally haven't had any WiFi problems so I have never needed to test it.

Made a little update on my previous post. The solution was that I needed to change the security on my network (wpa2 to wpa). But as you mentioned, I needed to set it to a static IP adress aswell. Up and running now, as I type at least
try running an atheros update. i also prefer wifi analyzer for connecting to wireless networks rather than the android wireless settings. It shows you detail and information that android settings do not. Lets you configure channel options for B/G/N and A. plus more. its avail in google play.

I can NOT get it to work with Verizon FIOS Actiontec router

I plugged in the Chromecast and put in all the information and waited while it tried to connect to my Actiontec router. (Verizon FIOS) I waited, and waited and waited. After about 10 minutes it goes back to the beginning. The help button says I need to turn off the Access Point Isolation on my router. Unfortunately there's no such setting. I'm not happy because I have 3 more of these coming tomorrow and if I can't connect to my network I'm shot. Panic starts to set in.
Luckily, I have a cheap $30 Fry's wifi router on my network. I switched the Chromecast to the Fry's router and, bam, it connected immediately.
So, if your cable company's router doesn't work, just go out and buy a cheapo wifi router and you'll be fine.
The joy that is reading Verizon FiOS/Actiontec entrails
Deep voodoo Actiontec solution: You need to disable the IGMP Proxy.
The exact location of this checkbox changes between Actiontec revs but a good start is "Advanced/Routing/Routing Protocols/Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)."
Once this is off network devices typically can discover & connect to eachother.
Another strategy is, on the latest revs, enabling IPv6 (no, after years of promises Verizon still hasn't rolled IPv6 out yet, but at least the latest routers might be ready.) Anyhow, this is often reported to resolve local connectivity issues.
Just for reference, I have the newest Fios Actiontec router, and had no problems. Just so everyone with that router doesn't think they'll necessarily need to do this.

Good point. Mine's about 6 years old, maybe I should get them to replace it.
I had the same problem. Turned off NAT, connected, then turned NAT on
Guess this is reason #153 why I'm glad I have a Linksys router piggy-backed off of the crappy FIOS unit for the majority of my networking needs
A tip if upgrading to a newer Actiontec router: The settings backup files are *not* compatible between versions.
I upgraded to the latest router version six months ago; I'd done a lot of customizing (assigning addresses, ports, etc) and assumed it'd be an easy switch. I ended up having to temporarily return my newer router to get back my old, screenshot many pages of settings, return the old for new, then re-enter settings. A hassle, but it does run better now.
Assuming the local depot/storefront has 'em in stock it's a few minutes to swap out for a newer or newest revision.
Coincidentally I had a visit a week later to replace a burnt-out-again ONT & the tech reported he'd changed things around a bit in it for even better service. I've no idea what that involved but if it's been a long time you might want to look into a service call.

I also picked up a Chromecast yesterday and am on Verizon Fios with the new Actiontec MI424WR router. I cannot get my Chromecast to connect. Sometimes I see it on the network, but it will not connect. Verizon, Actiontec, and so far Google have not been able to help me. I tried the tricks in this posting, but no luck.
I have a Buffalo Air Station wireless router, but have not had success operating this in conjunction with the Fios service (I have tried to bridge it, and run it just off ActionTec). Can someone help? I am okay at digging into this stuff, but you guys know so much more than me!

The instructions below worked for me. Found it in an Apple Forum out of all places.
log in to your router(192.168.1.1), go to Wireless Settings then Advanced Security Settings. At the bottom of the screen, click "Other Advanced Wireless Options". On the next screen change Network from "Network (Home/Office)" to "Broadband". Click Apply
Just curious but it could be that you have multicasting disabled on the router.
It could also be that the router does not support multicasting in general, but this is a feature that allows devices to discover each other on a private network.

I am having the same issue with DIR 655 router. Tried all the suggestion in this thread. But still no luck. Anyone having similar problem with DIR 655?
I'm having a similar problem. I've got a Linksys router that is happily supplying WiFi to my laptop, mobile phone, Kindle Fire, and XBox, but I can't get Chromecast to work properly. I get partially into the setup and then get the following message -- "Chromecast connected to [Name of Network], but can't connect to the internet." I've fiddled with countless settings to no avail. AP/Isolation mode is disabled, I've only got 2.4 GHz bands, the router is 20 ft away, etc. All the suggestions the Google Help guy gave me have had zero effect, so I thought I'd post here to see if anyone else ran into this error message and had a solution.

OK! finally found the issue. If your wifi password is too long(auto generated for WPA2) then chromecast cannot handle it. Reducing the length of router password fixed it. I reduced it to ~20 characters. Have not tested the pw length limit of cast.

My password is only 9 characters, and I have tried everything else suggested here. Anyone else have any ideas on how to get it to work?
I'm also having a similar issue with my DIR-601. I am able to detect my Chromecast but after the screen that asks for the WiFi info /renaming the Chromecast, I get an error stating that we were unable to find Chromecast on your network. I have checked that UPnP and have Enable IPv4 Multicast Streams selected (tried both ways.) I don't have any special firewall rules or anything like that. My pass is only 8 characters.
Wish Google had better support for this, all they have is a little questionnaire on their support page.If anyone finds a solution, please share. Thanks
Out of curiosity where is the enable multicast option at? I didn't see one.

None of the suggestions in this thread worked for me. I have the Actiontec Gen 3, rev I router (MI424WR-GEN3I), with firmware v. 40.20.7.
Apparently, the UPnP page is hidden, but can be accessed after logging in to the router using: 192.168.1.1/index.cgi?active_page=900. Changing the settings on this page didn't work either.
After a quick Google, I found an IGMP hidden page at 192.168.1.1/index.cgi?active_page=6059. I looked at these settings yet.
Calling Verizon's Expert Care, I was told that they don't support UPnP, since they only provide access to the Internet.
Fix found ... at least for me

I had the same issues as everyone else at both my office and my house. At home, I changed the IGMP settings, the UPnP settings, the security settings, etc. I finally figured out a way to make it work by simply trying to complete the setup from my laptop instead of my Droid 4. It worked on the first try at my house, and now all of my phones, tablets and computers can cast to the big tv. I immediately brought my laptop to the office and changed the IGMP setting -- and it immediately worked after that.
So maybe a solution is to try setting it up from your computer instead of your phone/tablet? It worked for me twice that way!

[Q] Cable modem/router: Wifi signal ok but no connection

Hi guys,
My phone: Samsung Galaxy S3, GT-I9305, Android 4.1.2
I changed the ISP (Germany: To Unitymedia) and are now supposed to use a cable modem which as well serves as wifi router. My hardware is TC7200 (Technicolor).
After setting up everything, the wifi connection to Win 7 laptop and Apple iPhone/iPad is working fine (also LAN connection to laptop of course).
The S3 showed a funny behavior: It is possible to establish a wifi connection and it gets IP address assigned. Default gateway, DNS server looks all fine. However, this is only the wifi signal but not an internet connection. It is not possible to reach any website.
The strange thing: If the google site is cached (from a different connection and then switching back to this problematic one) I can run a google search and get results displayed. However, it is not possible to open any websites displayed as results here.
I tried several things based on suggestions in the net, like restarting the s§, using static IP address, changing wifi ports, disabling wifi encryption completely, restart the router, factory reset the modem/router. Finally I performed a factory data reset for the S3 but this as well, like all other things, did not help. The phone was never rooted until before yesterdays factory reset, because I wanted to use Titanium Backup which requires root rights.
Of course, in all other wifi networks so far, this S3 works absolutely fine!
I am not sure if this matters at all, but with the new ISP I got an IPv6 IP address while before I had IPv4.
To be honest, it might simply be a hardware problem which has to be fixed by Firmware upgrade by ISP. This problem is sort of known to them and when I called in they promised a firmware update in November. But anyway, it would be interesting to understand more about it and usually there is a solution for everything Nevertheless, I couldn't find a solution in any forum yet.
Any suggestions / ideas welcome.

WiFi is kernel you can flash a kernel .
But i would reboot router and phone then set up wifi with no security first .

Wifi Issue with Nexus 6

I have been doing research on this and it turns out that the Nexus 6 had issues with corporate wifi on 5.0. Corporate wifi is just wifi that requires a username and password to access if you do not know and this is the kind of wifi my college uses. Well hoping this problem would be fixed with 5.1 update I got the update and am still having the same issue it verifies the network but only says saved never connects however many tries it does its just a huge loop and this is getting very annoying. I dont know if there is something I should try to resolve this problem or will just have to stick it out until google addresses it. If anyone knows more about this issue please inform me because I have reached a wall with my research on this issue.
Yeah, ever since I updated to 5.1 I haven't been able to connect either, and I try through the Xpress Connect app like and it never works. I had been able to connect normally when I was on 5.0.1 before.

Hm, my cable company offers local WiFi and I've been able to connect to their userid/password-required routers, then use their network. Did this just a couple days ago when signal in a particular store was really hampered.
Maybe it depends on the particular router and/or configuration they use?

Try installing the hydra kernel.
I use it along with meanpop and have no problems connecting to LEAP

By username and password I meant one that the company or school gives you individually its not the kind of regular router login because at home I connect no issues but its the school wifi they even checked my account to make sure I wasnt blocked out of it and I was not. My fault for not being specific in the original post.
In my case N6 was able to connect to one password protected SSID without an issue, the subnet associated with this SSID is dedicated to provide internet access only.
The SSID N6 was having problem to authenticate with, was another SSID, whose subnet is bridged to provide access to both internet, and to corporate network.
According to Dell support, the Sonicwall router was failing to authenticate a connection coming through a bridged interface. I guess, N6 and/or Android 5.1 implements something new vis-a-vis authentication, that an older SonicWall firmware was not designed to deal with.
Immediately after SonicWall firmware update the problem was resolved.
Just wanted to chime in on this one... We have a corporate Wi-Fi as you describe (each user has a separate logon to the network) and I've not had any problems with Lollipop, 5.0 or 5.1. Not very helpful for you, but at least now you know it can work...

Question Is there a workaround or fix for the Wifi issue

Seen the issue posted everywhere with the basic T/s off/on network and factory reset. Usually fixes for a bit but comes back.
Hard to report the error as when I open Samsung members to run diagnostic I can't load the splash screen unless I turn wifi off https://9apps.ooo/.
My unconfirmed suspicion is it doesn't like HTTP3 so apps that are modern enough to use it just hang until I go onto mobile data.
I actually work for my ISP so I have confirmed no local network or ISP related issue but no wifi adaptor card in PC to try a packet capture to actually confirm what's going on.
If you issues are like mine were (randomly wifi would report no internet connection while other devices on the network connected fine) it ended up being my router. Switched to a newer one and the issues went away. An IT friend of mine said it was likely because the router was older and while it said they were compatible they were still using different versions of one of the connection standards. If you have a different router, give that a try. Side note, the router is a TMobile internet gateway and is obscenely fast. The new wifi 6 is awesome.
