Root Note 8 Exynos, basebabd: N950FXXU4CRG8? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hello all, thanks for your insight.!
Just wondering if it's possible to Magisk root with the most current SM-N950Fxx. I see no guides for that so wonder if I can simply :
1. Install TWRP & 2. Install Magisk root via recovery.

The same method as before.

I've updated my note 8 to the latest firmware and was able to root it using magisk. I suggest to flash a custom kernel that has rmm fix. otherwise if you reboot your device you'll have an error "official binaries.." something like that and you wont be able to boot it up.

TWRP wont install SuperSU [help]

Okay so i have xiaomi note redmi 3.
I managed to flash Nitrogen OS to it and is working as it should.
The first thing i did was install the SuperSU via the PlayStore ( note i had another supersu installed on my phone but it wasn't working for some reason ).
After installing SuperSU it asked me to delete the other supersu ( which i pressed yes ) and then asked me to update my Binaries. Neither the normal mode ( it fails ) nor the TWRP recovery mode don't work.
I tried flashing SuperSU in TWRP but it wont install anything.
I am quite new to the rooting processes so if you can please help me,

Superuser is already in the ROM.
But when you want SuperSU you need to follow the instructions in the OP about removing superuser. Installing from the Playstore is not in the instructions.

Learn to read, its not hard. I'm sure there is threads already with this same question. If you want root after a ota go to magisk and install on inactive slot to keep root.

Do exactly this:
Boot into TWRP
- Flash full OTA
- Flash TWRP installer zip
Reboot into TWRP
- Flash full OTA
- Flash TWRP installer zip
Reboot into TWRP
- Flash Magisk
- Wipe dalvik
Reboot system.
For future reference, this question was probably best suited for the q&a forum, but good luck!

As of OOS 9.5.10 you can boot twrp by fastboot, then sideload twrp into both slots and finally flash magisk which patches the boot.img itself. Thus no need for patched boot.img anymore.
Does this work for the global version??
Patched boot.img is a silly way of rooting... If someone uses the wrong boot.img for their version it will fail to boot. Plus, booting TWRP and flashing the magisk zip is faster and more reliable

The only difference between the global and the EU versions are supposed to be the LTE bands.

Sorry for asking but I wanna root mine as soon as it comes. So if you install TWRP and flash with magisk the OTAs won't be broken?

I get still offered OTAs by the system. However I prefer to use Oxygen Updater app from Play Store to download it and flash directly in TWRP.

Oh cool. So like "dirty flashing". Will magisk also get killed in the proccess? I'm not sure how A/B partitions work. Do you just install magisk from twrp or do you have to somehow install it on both partitions?

I seem to have lost my root after I did the update for 9.5.11 this morning
Here is what I did
I did as stated
Download update, Install, DO NOT REBOOT
Went to Magisk, unistalled all modules, then did OTA Install
Rebooted
Went to Magisk installed TWRP, but my phone froze at that point and the screen turned all white and just sat there
So I clicked on the power button and rebooted
Got back into my phone and checked to see if I was still rooted via root checker app and now it says I AM NOT ROOTED
What can I do to fix this I can launch Magisk, but now it says its is not installed on the screen, so I click install, download the ZIP option
It says Select Method, Download ZIP ONLY which I did or Select and Patch a File which I am not sure what file I need to use?
How can I get my root back on the phones
I am on NOW on 9.5.11 GM 1917
Thanks all

If you don't need TWRP, first booting it and flashing the zip takes way longer than "fastboot flash boot boot.img".

Anyone able to root RM3s NX629J_V1S_ENCommon_V2.05?

I tried the method on this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/red-magic-3/how-to/red-magic-3-root-guide-t3933148, but I'm stuck in an endless reboot state. I've done this on the RM3 both global and CN ROM, but just can't get it to work on the RM3s Global model.

Hey I tried using the fw you are using but im still getting the same issue that my phone keeps rebooting. Not sure what im doing wrong because i've done this on the older gen model before and worked fine. What version of magisk are you using and are you able to tell me the steps you done when you rooted your phone?
Sorry for the late reply I'm using latest magisk 20.2, first of all my device is rm3 using rm3s fw with unlocked bootloader.
Step:
1. Flashing rm3s fw with rm3s tools and update it to the latest
2. Flash twrp
3. Flash magisk.zip in twrp
4. Wipe cache/dalvik in twrp
5. Reboot.
That's all.

No worries about the reply. Also one more question what version of twrp are you using? Because I heard you can't install/flash twrp with the global rom.
I'm using twrp 3.3.1-3, global rm3 fw cannot use twrp but global rm3s fw can.

So, after ahard reset tried again following yor guide, still not rooted, after that I flashed stock rom to have a clean install and tried the tutorial I posted using a stock boot image patched with magisk and still no root. Is it possible that I am having no luck and you managed to root yours because of different stock roms i.e. Global vs China or Russia roms?
