Does anyone know if XDA developers have any intent to create an app that would allow us to force the HTC Hero (CDMA for Sprint), and future Sprint Android phones, to roam? Service is weak in my office and I would love to force it to roam.
Thanks!
Would love to have the ability to force roam.
I would love to have the ability to force roam. Sounds like I'm in the same boat. At work i get like 1/2 bar of reception, while my roaming reception is full bars. My centro had the ability to force it to roam which really saved me but my hero doesn't. I would love if an app made this possible with maybe a toggle switch widget. Not sure if you would need root access for this or not. Could someone elighten us as to whether or not this can be done and if someone is already looking into the issue?
totally on the same boat. this is a must have.
it was done easily on my sprint touch on winmo =/
I would love this ability as well.
^^ Bump ^^
Same problem here!
Same here...while I don't know anything about rooting, I would imagine it wouldn't be that difficult for someone with some skill to allow roam only if it was a setting originally there and disabled before release..
Had this for my Pre. Definately would make my Hero much more usable. I actually believe my battery would last over a day if someone could create this.
Ok, we need to bump this thread. I just switched from my Q9c that had full signal while roaming at my
house (otherwise, no service from sprint). I got my Hero yesterday, and I can't get service PERIOD. I
am willing to pay, and so are a lot of others, for an app for the Hero to force roam. Willing to pay damn good money here.
PLEASE, someone chime in on this.
Yes I need this app I would so pay for this I only need it at my home and I'm paying for air rave bump bump bump
Someone seems to be trying http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg16197.html
I have noticed something.......if I turn on wifi in my home rather than use the data it finds roaming network 50% less. If I leave an app running that consistently taps the data which can be expensive unless you have unlimited it seems to hold the roaming signal in place until the data connection goes dormant.
bump?Anything?
Bumpity bump. This is the only thing stopping me from getting a Hero (or another Android phone).
I am honestly shocked noone has come up with this yet. This is definately one instance where Android fails. Im bout ready to jump ship to big red.

I'm surprised as well. I think I'm going to get the Pre for now, and if there is ever a fix for this, then I'll move over to an Android phone. I'd like to contribute to a solution, but unfortunately time is hard to come by (the same I'm sure for many people).
I upgraded to Android and love it but hate the no forced roaming crap so I had to trade my other phones for a TP2 but I can't activate it until I get my stupid $100 MIR back from Sprint. So I suffer....

So the link you provided above...is guy that barking up the wrong tree?
Alright folks..I think i may have stumbled upon a workaround to force roaming!!
Procedure:
1. Download and install the diagnostics drivers for the Hero
2. Download the latest version of QPST (i'm using 2.7 build 323)
3. On your phone make sure USB debugging is turned on and push ##3424# in your phone keypad
4. Plug your phone in via USB and install the diagnostics drivers when prompted
5. If you've installed the drivers correctly, you should be able to go to Device Manager in control panel and see it registered as a COM port/USB diagnostic device
6. Next open QPST Service Programming>Connection>New. You should see your phone/COM port and you obviously choose that.
7. Choose "Read from phone" in the lower left hand of the window, after which you'll be prompted for your service programming code/MSL (Google your way to find it if you don't already have it)
8. Whence you have entered that code you'll see your phone info around
9. Go to the System tab (5th tab in my setup)
10. NOW..what worked for me was this setup: Preferred Mode: Digital Only (upon further investigation, apparently "Automatic" works as well) Band Preference: A Only (as a side note B Only worked for me as well) Roam Preference: Automatic
11. Press Write to Phone
12. Reboot your phone
That should do it!! If alls done right you should see the familiar Roam triangle over your service bars! Hope it works fer ya..to change back from roaming only change everything back to Automatic.
*DISCLAIMER*: I've been messing around with my phone's service programming quite a bit so this may only work for me cuz of some erroneous change I made to the internals. Also I've only tried this in an area that I know I can get signal at, so whether it is TRULY roaming, I don't know. All I do know is that it says Roaming in my phone's Status

Hey, everyone.
I just bought an ATT Samsung Focus S i937 off of eBay. It was locked when I received it, so I plunked down 25 bucks and unlocked it. I'm using it on Telus and so far all is well, except for WiFi connection sharing/tethering.
When I try to enable internet sharing, I get a message saying "Connection not shared. To enable tethering on this device go to (ATT's website) or dial 611."
Basically, it sounds like I need to have an ATT tethering plan to enable this on my phone, but since I'm not an ATT customer, there's not mch I can do.
I was wondering if there is a workaround for this. Please let me know!
Thanks,
Taylor

firstly DO NOT INSTALL THE SAMSUNG UPDATE!! and if updating the OSan have it unlocked already read This Website and use the relock prevent + edit your hosts file
Absolutely back up your device at every stage using This Guide
So follow these steps
unlock the device Here follow the instructions which includes installing the diagnostic tool and install XAP deployer or XAP handler Here or Here With the XAP file deployer in the WP7 SDK
Then install WP7 Root Tools Here
Then install WP Bazaar market Here
Open Root Tools, and give Bazaar higher level privileges
Find WinTT on the Bazaar market and install it
Open Root Tools, and give WinTT higher level privileges
you may need to restart to get WinTT working
go through WinTT and turn on ICS
Done
Wow thanks.
That's very complete. One questions though... I didn't mention this, but I am a registered WP7 dev and can unlock this device using my dev access. Can I load any of the XAPs directly instead of having to crack my phone?
Thanks,
Taylor
Yeah, you have limited access to installing xaps, but you will still need to interop unlock and use root tools to give higher level access to WinTT, so your best starting from scratch,

Unable to understand the process
I have purchased an Samsung Focus S i937 locked to AT&T. I have purchased an unlock code and have successfully unlocked my phone. Im also unable to use the Internet Sharing feature of my phone. Firstly, I am not a technical guy hence im unable to understand the process stated by you. Secondly, I wanted to find out that does following the process given by you, expose my device to get BRICKED as I am able to understand that involved a JAIL BREAK of the device. Does it have any other side effects.? Like effecting the radio signals or any other such problem.
Thanks

ok, first things first.
You won't brick your device, at worst a hardrest all remove all changes you can do, our device, the focus S, isn't fully unlocked, so there are limitations to the amount of damage you can do by arseing it up. With that behind us you have to learn what you are about to do, there isn't a simple way.
So, start by knowing these basics, then read through the guide, any bits you don't understand feel free to ask.
1, AT&T locked your internet connection sharing, so you must re enable that
2, To enable ICS, you must make changes to the registry
3, Microsoft locked you out of making changes to the registry, so you must gain access to do it
4, AT&T left a security hole allowing us to make changes to allow us to change things like registry
5, using that hole we can install software that will give us more access, that software can then allow us to remove the AT&T lock on ics
These things you must do, there is no magic answer, there has been some short cuts made but this in some cases has had a negative effect, such as losing 3g, doing as I said will not have any effect on your signal or anything else

Have you guys noticed any of the following....
issues after the above procedures were applied (a big thanks to all the brainiacs who know how to hack this stuff):
Slowed Internet Connection
Lower Strength of GPS Signal
Less accuracy and trouble sometime finding location
Less accuracy while using maps because of the above statement
Not complaining, just curious. Thanks to all.:good:

theres nothing in the code that should have done that, the XML import only fiddles with interop unlock
im not 100% sure what WTT changes but I know the entries it should be fiddling with and shouldnt make any difference, although its been suggested the ICS code does mess with the 3G signal ive not heard anything at all to suggest that it effects GPS as well.
See This Thread for details, ive copied the relevant bits here but all thanks should go to those on the original thread
Option 1
---- 11.3. If your device is not locked to a specific operator, you can use the Samsung Network Profile app (for 1st generation) or Wireless Manager (for 2nd generation)
-------- 11.3.1. Uninstall the Samsung Network Profile / Wireless Manager app.
-------- 11.3.2. Download and install the latest version of the Samsung Network Profile / Wireless Manager app from the Marketplace.
-------- 11.3.3. Open the Samsung Network Profile / Wireless Manager app.
-------- 11.3.4. Select a different Network Operator.
-------- 11.3.5. Now Select your own Network Operator again.
-------- 11.3.6. Exit the Network Profile / Wireless Manager app.
Option 2
Resolve Samsung connection problems
A lot of Samsung owners have complained here about connection problems. They blamed Interop Unlock, but apparently this has more to do with enabling "Internet Connection Sharing" than with "Interop Unlock". You should be able to recover the connection, apply this:
1. Start Diagnosis App> *#32489# ***DOES NOT WORK ON i937***
2. Tap "Back" 2 times to go back to Phone Control
3. Choose: [7] Network Control
4. Choose: [1] GFC
5. Choose: [3] Setting Cancellation
Wait for it to say success, then reboot.
GPS is a completely passive function, I don't have a problem with this, HSDPA may have issues for reasons unknown but using this method doesn't effect mine, perhaps its carrier specific..

indeed, so it would seem, many of the diagnostic codes have been disabled which is a pain, even the ones that are left don't always do what you expect them to do

What if I have already updated to version 7.10.8773.98, is there any other possible way? I don't need any other features. Thanks in advance.
If you have updated the OS and NOT the samsung firmware then reapply the windows break interop unlock, be sure to keep it off the inernet by disabling all coms and then apply the relock prevent xap. if you have applied the Samsung firmware and didn't have it already unlocked or you didn't have a back up, your screwed

First of all I just want to say thanks that you're trying to help me, but I just didn't understand many things u said, I'm not really into technical stuff, but I'll tell you what info I have, in hope of u helping me better.
I don't live in the US and I bought the phone from ebay and it was unlocked and it works perfectly over 2 carriers here in my country, and I have never encountered any problems with it except for the internet sharing feature.
And about 3 months ago the phone notified my to a system upgrade from version 7.10.7740 to version 7.10.8107 then immediatly to version 7.10.8773.98. now I'm guessing these are OS firmwares not samsung software.
but I've noticed something, when I setup my phone for the first time I used a US hotmail account but before I connect to the internet the ICS feature worked, but once I signed in it gave me the dial 611 or go to att.com/mywireless message.
So I am guessing if I restore the device and sign in with a non US hotmail account may result in the feature to be unlocked. The only thing keeping me from trying this because I'll have to redownload all my apps again and reorganize my contacts again. if there's a way to avoid that or someone has tried it please do tell.
Again thanks for your reply.

im afraid to say your firmware is locked,
2103.11.10.1 is unlock-able, im pretty sure anything from xxxx.12.xx.x upwards is locked down solid
I don't suppose you made a backup? if you haven't then there is nothing you can do
the Samsung firmware update was released as a separate update at the same time as the tango 8773 build, it tried to install on mine after the 8773 build
Found a solution =D

I'm really sorry for the late reply, was busy at work. but during that time I might have found a "Glitch" or a workaround to enable it and I have tested it many times and it works.
Well there are two ways:
1st one which is a sure thing:
1) Turn off the phone, then turn on again.
2) Once the phone is turned on, immediately go to settings>internet sharing and turn it on and BOOM there you go
* I have tried this method over a dozen times and it works every single time
** The point here is that you have to enable it immediately after the phone is turned on, I think it happens because the phone doesn't have enough time to send the info. to the servers to know that it's not enabled by default.
2nd one which was succesful over 75% of the time:
1) Go to Settings>cellular>Turn Off, Wait like 5-10 seconds and turn on again.
2) Go to Internet sharing> Turn on, and enjoy :fingers-crossed:
***I don't know why do they work or how, may be it's a Glitch like I said before but the point is they do work
I hope that I've helped someone out there and Thanks to everyone who tried to help me

nice find, ICS is disabled locally only, it doesn't have anything to send, the only thing I can think of that makes sense is that the service hasn't been initialised and doesn't call the reg entries that disables ICS, by turning it on manually ASAP it perhaps catches it out. if you enable it, then disable it, can you still enable it again in that session or do you need to restart?

Well I tried that, but there is no definite answer to it, sometimes I turn it on and off on and off many times without needing to restart and throughout the whole day, and sometimes it works once and doesn't at the second try. So it all comes down to luck, but still better than nothing
Now the thing is I'm afraid that when the 7.8 update comes, they would fix this glitch =D Haha.
Can any one shed any light on this unit (root roms etc)
Having recently bought because of its 2 sec boot time due to mcu unit
Having read through threads to identify it
I am none the wiser
Tried accessing Oem settings too but no passwords used or
Recommended in the forum seem to work
Is it possible to mod in any way
I have checked in settings /about
And no reference to mtcd or b etc can be found
Please help
Thanks

R u able to use adb with it?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...d-units/stop-m4272-root-t3561066/post71458964
I have not tried adb
But looks like it works and root too
According to above posts
So now how do we go about identity of unit beyond atoto
To see if any roms are compatible
I recently contacted atoto about low mic volume/gain
They said they would release an app soon to control the mic better.but they are currently focused on a newer unit with
Androids 6.0 so that has delayed releases for current m4
They did say they had the sdk for android 5.1 for this unit
As I had a mic problem I did some digging with
Shortcut master
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.shortcutmaster.lite
And this gave access to hidden Oem settings
In audio then choose mic and then levels
Having changed level 1 to 240 (set) and all other levels up til 8
Are also changed to 240 ( max is 255 if you prefer)
My mic preformed much better now but could still do with a little tweaking.
Thanks for the info for the oem settings. Shortcut master got me into it. Just searched for oem...
I was able to get into engineer mode with apex launcher b4, but thanks though.
Also the bootanimation in the app section work on this unit. Just got to rename to bootanimation.zip and put it in /system/media/
Cant get usb debugging to work. Checked it in dev options and even edited the build.prop and default.prop with
persist.service.adb.enable=1
persist.service.debuggable=1
persist.sys.usb.config=mtp,adb,mass_storage
Then there was another setting in there that was
ro.sys.usb.storage.type=mtp,mass_storage
I changed it to
ro.sys.usb.storage.type=mtp,mass_storage,adb
And still cant adb through usb.. Can anybody help?
I have not tried usb debugging but just wondering if you tried each USB port as in the manual it says each port is designed for a specific device/ add on like camera phone etc
But I have no idea if this makes a difference
But anything is possible with android as I have learned over the years
I have the 2 long usb cables running to the front dash using, Rerii 1 Meter 3ft Dual USB Extension Flush, Dash, they both work with mass storage and charge my phone. Both work with a wireless keyboard and mouse also. Havent tryed the short cable, being i installed the unit b4 i got the rerii adapter, and its a pain takin the dash apart.
Think thats just how the other things get mounted, if u look at storage in the settings, the mounts r already there.
Really need to get usb adb to work. Default.prop keeps reverting back to stock.. Im gonna keep lookin for solutions.
Also. When reboot to Recovery it goes straight into installing update, no menu. Bootloader reboots after like 5-10sec.
Maken a nandroid backup now. Gonna try n make a recovery for it..
New firmware 8.0.3 was just posted
Have not had a chance to fully test it to see what's new
But easy connect now works with my phone
Nexus 6p 7.1.1 march pure nexus rom
So I am happy as it has not worked at all on 7.1.1 till now
Note unit m/4 must have an internet connection for 1st install of easy connect to phone
Or else it will fail to download needed services for success
Also needed to setup Bluetooth and wifi again after update
Note my phone will not connect with Bluetooth pin 0000
Change to 1234 and then it connects ok.
New email from atoto today
"Our engineer is working on release an microphone gain control app in the next 2-3 weeks, so I have to ask you wait for extra a few days."
downloading when i get the pass... Smh
Whats the password?
Password is atoto
Please read the install instructions in the extracted zip
Before proceeding
As it has a 2 part update
Thank u.
Installed the new update, its buggy as ****. The subwoofer settings wont stick, and dnt sound right.. And clock wont wont save. Soon as u turn the car off and back on, the clock is wrong.. Smh.
Supposed to be CPU: MTK Soc-based Quad-core 1.5Ghz. Mine only gets 1.3Ghz. What is yours running at?
Sent atoto an email about the bugs
Waiting on reply maybe Monday
Have had this clock problem on kitkat before
USA has set its clock back but Europe has not done it yet
During this window of difference some clocks act weird
Well at least last time this happened that's what it was
Have not checked cpu will get back to you on that
Also noticed firmware 8.0.3 reports as 8.0.2 in settings
Not sure why???
There is another update https://www.adrive.com/public/wtGBAn/ATOTO OS Update for M4 0318.rar
It fixed the clock issue. Change the subwoofer settings, but its still buggy.
Can you check the cpu with cpu-z? Thanks.
Did u get urs rooted yet? Its a pain in the butt, but i got it. I wander if any of the xposed mods will work.
Need to get usb debugging to work, so i can go about porting twrp.
Hi guys, I recently switched from a samsung s8 to a Pixel 7 and I wanted to be able to carry some "automations" with me with an NFC Tag.
The automatism is simple: I return home -> the wifi is activated and the ringtone becomes silent. I leave the house -> the wifi is deactivated and the ringtone returns to normal.
With the S8 I've never had any problems.. with the Pixel, when I get home, the ringtone goes silent, but Do Not Disturb is also activated. And there is no way to separate Quiet from Do Not Disturb! Both activate.
I tried with two different programs to modify the nfc tags: a very old version of "Trigger" and the most recent "NFC Tools". But both give the same result: if you activate Silent, you also activate Do Not Disturb! Obviously if I change the ringing mode by hand this doesn't happen.
Advice?! Has anyone encountered this problem?

Before "Trigger" and "NFC Tools", what app were you using?
If anything, I suggest you use -- if you were not using originally anyway -- MacroDroid. It seems to be capable of achieving what your goal is, although I wasn't able to get the NFC tool to set up myself (but that might just be my phone). Although I'm unsure if you really need to use NFC protocol to achieve this versus using geolocation/GPS; you could probably achieve the same thing with a gps trigger...And i'm sure there are other clever ways you can achieve the same goal using the very diverse program.
Worse comes to worst, you could possibly use Tasker -- although that app hasn't really been in active development in a while, I've seen around the forum that people still use it so at the very least it still functioning...
I used to use Trigger... but once it was set up I never used it again (except in the background). But that was 4 years ago.
I think I will try to use MacroDroid. I already use it to enable/disable rotation only on some programs.
Any advice on any modules?
Hey Everyone,
I own an Exynos S21 Ultra, model number SM-998B/DS. I do enjoy the device, yet it has this problem with connecting to GPS satellites, which is really inconvenient and frustrating. I will need to use GPS extensively in a near future and I don't want to change my phone.
GPS Test application shows no connection to satellites. I tried all the possible solutions offered online, even factory resetting the phone, but still no luck... Though I came across an old YouTube video, which showed promise. But the codes for this Exynos processor phone are completely different, so that didn't work either. I put the link to the video.

Has anybody encountered and solved this annoying issue?
I am in need of an expert's help... Thank you.
Somehow I can't believe the lack of GPS if the device is operational.
Did you do a "Clear and update" on the AGPS option with internet access enabled?
Show a screenshot of the GPS Test.

I did that, but had no luck.
Here's the screenshot.
Hmmm...
Have you tried these magic tricks?

Sure, I've tried them all. I just haven't taken the phone to a technician yet.
Do you know how to access the NV Rebuild section on the S21 Ultra? I couldn't give it a go yet. I've tried different combinations of USSD codes to get to that menu for my phone, but couldn't.

I do not have this device. Try the old method:
NV Rebuild in Service Menu
I just installed a new screen on an S6 Edge (Tmobile) and reset the phone to stock. It's getting 0/0 on satellites. I saw that the NV rebuild function might fix this. I can get into the service menu just fine, but none of the key inputs I've...

I've seen this post, I tried what he'd tried but...
I read that a good amount of S22 Ultra users also have this problem but I don't think Samsung has addressed the issue in a proper manner.
Sorry to flood the thread but I really need help on this...
The problem still persists and I desperately need the GPS operational. I'm open to suggestions and any possible fixes.
Try Bluetooth GPS Output by Meowsbox.
I bought once.
I was getting the gps position on a tablet without GPS via this app from a phone with a working GPS. Perhaps it will solve your problem.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have a Galaxy Watch 4. Could it work with it? Or with a Smarttag?
No! Only smartphone with GPS and BT.

Do you think it'll work with the Uber app? As a driver.
