Hi,
I just bought a Note to replace my S2.
Before shelling out the money and signing a 2 year contract I read tons of reviews and opinions here on xda.
The general consensus was that the Note is as snappy as the S2.
My personal experiences sadly cannot confirm this...
My Note is VERY laggy .. it behaves worse than my ancient Galaxy S1 ...
I am on 2.3.6 KKA stock.
Has someone any idea what to do?
Is there any decent custom rom out there which can bring back the snappy experience of the S2?
P.S.
On s2 I used to use the MIUI ROM
P.P.S.
Custom launchers are working terribly on the Note. Tried ADW and Launcher Pro. Had to give up because it were unusable.
Its not Note issue but Samsung's filmwares.Im sure the next updates will blow up our monster.
Try latest filmware XXKL3 and you will notice improvment on your Note.
Plus with KL3 the third part launchers not lug at all (not perfect but closed.Im using zeam laucher which is perfect not lugs)
So dont worry my friend...Be patient...
Devs working hard but its very early for good custom rom like sgii...
Very strange, I had a Galaxy S2 prior to my Note.
The Note is just as smooth as the S2.
I also had a Galaxy S 4G T959 "S1" prior , and of course the S2 and Note blows it away in term of smoothness. Might be some kind of software or hardware related issues with yours?
I don't know what to tell ya...
I have a rooted Note running the stock ROM (KJ4), and it's just fine!
No slowdowns here.
I wouldn't say that Note is laggy. It's fast but the user interface experience is choppy. It's the sheer number of pixels to push + not hardware-accelerated UI (and Android-specific UI problems). I would expect it to get better, especially with ICS. For now - a little OC + KL3 soft + stay away from 3D effects in launchers.
Laggy keyboard?
The Samsung keyboard seems to cache a lot of data, Try going into app manager and clearing Samsung keyboard cache. Worked for me. Then I also just switched to another keyboard - Swiftkey X because I wasn't using the handwriting too much in S keyboard mode. And I didn't like the AI predictions too much.
I still use S memo and S Planner and Kies Air and they all work great.
Currently no lag for me.
I came from a LG G2X running CM7 nightly #201, which was awesome by the way, and the GNote is comparable.
Current Devices:
Galaxy Note, LG G2X CM7 (Nightly #201 + GPS mod), HTC My touch 3G slide CM7 (back-up, back-up phone)
Past Devices. Most recent first:
HTC Touch Pro (great phone), HTC Apache, Audiovox Thera (lovable weirdness), HTC XV6600 (what a phone!), Kyocera 6035 (those were the days)
i was about to buy it too .. but i didn't cuz of these comments saying it's slower than the S2
any one have both devices can tell us the truth ?
A totally stock Samsung Galaxy S2 is always smooth, fluid and responsive, however the Note in stock form, which is supposed to be faster, has a clear but ever so slight input lag. On the Note I think Samsung's touchwiz UI performs better than any other third party launcher. However with the latest KL3 ROM overall performance is much improved regardless of launcher. So i swapped from touchwiz to adw soon after reflashing because I cant stand touchwiz.
It helps to reduce the cache and memory usage settings on any custom launchers that should help a bit. I'm sure its just a firmware issue and once they mature a bit this phone will be even more awesome than it is now. I honestly don't have any regrets and for anyone who is still on the fence, go for it. You will love it after a few simple customizations.
Stock Note is a bit slow for me, I use Romow Lite rom which is very fast. Even Market works (have issues with some other roms), and cifs and tun modules for OpenVPN. Only issue with the rom is AccountsandSync settings isn't install and failed to install (the feature works, you can log in, but there isn't a GUI to turn it off). So I use QuickSettings which can turn off syncing. I'm using Launcher Pro with it and its very smooth.
Thanks folks,
Should try some custom ROMS.... I wanted to wait a week or two to be sure that there are no hardware issues (it is troublesome to send it back on warranty with custom fw) and after that to root it.
Which custom rom do you prefer? I like miui very much but there isn't any port to Note till now ...
I also think the Galaxy Note is quite laggy. I tried the GS2 in the store and it is definitely smoother than the Note. And I can also confirm that the 3rd party launchers are surprisingly choppy on the Note. I ran some of those same launchers on my Android HD2 and got very, very good performance. Especially LauncherPro. It's perfectly smooth on the the old HD2 Android. I would probably have stuck with GoLauncher on the Note but it is terribly and perfectly choppy. My version is KKA.
My Note runs fine so far. I found it quite fast and snappy. Have not downloaded many applications as of yet but will add more soon. The ones I do have downloaded work ok so far.
One thing that is obvious is how much faster applications work on the iPhone compared to Android. As an example try downloading the Bloomberg applications and compare section and stories downloads time. The iPhone is about 3-4 times faster than the average Android device out including my new Samsung Note.
Just wanted to say that while Cassies KL3 mod is a good improvement, it's much better paired up with AbyssNote 2.3 kernel and the CPU clocked to 1.6Ghz. Now it really flies. Battery life also seems improved with this kernel but its still early days.
For those who think third party launcher is laggy, try Spare Parts +. Turn the animations to fast.

On Thursday I will be upgrading to the Note 4 and this will be my first Samsung device too disregarding my old nexus S and wanted to know if there is anything I should know in advance before buying this device. Anything is helpful! Thank you all in advance
Sent from my Nexus 5
I've never had any problems with the Galaxy Note 4, but keep in mind that you will receive Android Updates later compared to the Nexus 5.

I went from Nexus S --> Note 2 --> Note 4 Exynos
Each upgrade was excellent. The Note 2 was a great device with much development. Now, Note 4 Exynos is slowly getting there.
I encourage you to make this move.
The N4 screen is really amazing. QHD kicks ass. U didn't say what CPU version you may buy - each variant (Exynos vs Snapdragon) has pros & cons. Read up on the different modem capabilities. MY battery on Lollipop (newest build) gives me 5.5 hours on-screen time, lasts 2 full days.
SD card expansion
Good camera - slow motion, UHD video
xposed now available for deodexed ROMs

What do you mean? I think only versoin not able to root is from a particular American carrier ... your basic research before buying will avoid that piece of shi* ... you're on XDA - users here are more knowledgeable that an average consumer

Welcome to the Note 4 family~
Just go for it , don't hesitate. The first thing i did was to root mine. And with the necessary tweaks it works like a charm. Never had a real problem with root or custom recovery.
Wouldnt want to change it for any other device rigth now!
Just got it today and couldn't be happier! Still running off the stock charge out of the box with about 3 hours of sot even though most of it was setting up the device and downloading back my apps. I had my nexus 5 rooted since day 1 and want to see the performance of this device and battery life before rooting even though rooting has many benefits. Hope to get development support from here for the next 2 years of my contact and thanks for the warm welcome ?
I know the question is very generic, but I am just curious. Is there anything similar to Paranoid Android on the exynos Note 4?
No matter which one you install, it's still ****ty stock from Samsung. Buying Exynos version was my biggest mistake now I realize We have no CM/anything vanilla Android based ROM, and it doesn't seem as if we are going to get one in the near future. Galaxy Alpha with Exynos 5430 somehow got beta Resurrection Remix, we have nothing atm...
I regret buying a note 4 at the first place :/ should have opted for Nexus 6, but the battery on Nexus is messed up :/
Best ROM is stock rom, for now.

There are basically no other roms than slightly modified stock roms available. Personally I've been happy with Wanam's BOC5 (odexed).
wait until Note 5 comes
The one lesson I learnt was to not buy exynos variants. Running CM on my note 4 SD is simply amazing, insanely fast with no lag, running loads of apps will quickly switch between them. Compared to touchwiz (which I thought was fast), CM is like lightning.
Lesson learnt: don't buy exynos variants.

did i missed somthing?
Can't undestand why these person buy a Note 4 to install a fuc**ng Cyanogem/AOSP ROM..
You lost almost everything that makes Note 4 a Note 4. S-Pen, fingerprint reader, S-health functions, worse camera performance, functions (a lot of functions, like MultiWindow, PenWindow, Screen Write, Smart Select, etc...).
Why you guys didn't bought a Nexus 6 or Droid Turbo in the first place ?
Btw, a port of S6 ROM it's coming to N910C and things will be better. The best rom so far in my opinion is the SweetROM BOE3, but the SimplROM BOC5 it's awesome too;

Wouldn't an S6 rom also remove all of the features that make the note 4 unique? Also who's developing the port?

I do not use any of those function but I get better camera, a bit bigger battery and more power efficient CPU then Snapdragon 805 in Nexus,. Moreover, Note 4 is a bit smaller. At the same time I hate Touchwiz, lack of build-in permissions manager and I have to waste 1 hour after every re-flash to delete half of Samsung's apps from /system/app. Droid Turbo is not available in my country. These are reasons why I'm waiting for CM or AOSP.

My thoughts exactly. Perhaps Simplrom would be a better choice because it takes away all that crap but keeps all Note 4 functions intact.

No, the touchwiz base it's the same in all devices .. he has ported the Note 4 exclusive features .. s pen and her functions works as on stock note 4..
There is a page on Facebook: Glamour ROM .. he has released a video of 17 minutes showing the rom .. and looks faster as S6 .. with almost everything working ... it's was not released yet. Small bugs and fixes to do...

I can only speak for myself, but when I buy a phone, the most important thing for me is the display. There's just no competition for the Note 4 display, Nexus 6 doesn't cut it. As far as the s-pen, that's fully functional in CM, I barely use it though. S-health apps I consider as bloatware, I really rather not have them at all. Better camera, hmm in low light the stock cam out performs snap camera, in all other circumstances I prefer snap camera over stock cam, much more versatile and picture quality is equal usually (unless low light).
I guess people buy phones for different reasons though. But yeah, the moment Google comes with a great display screen I'll buy that for sure.
Just flash the latest kitkat rom, after that: root, debloat and install xposed.
That's all.

Hello!
Is there any stable Custom Rom available for Samsung Galaxy Note 5 to install Android 8.0/8.1 ?
Or the Pixel XL 2 Android O 8.0 port available for Note 5?
Thanks
Anyone? :|
None yet, wait for LOS 15.1 or the release of Oreo for the S8, some person port it to the Note 5.
Where is the 8.0 roms devs the s6 has them and there are rocking the same processor !
Be patient, it will come soon!!
I will try lol
There's a video on YouTube that shows a step by step guide to installing LineageOS on Android 8.1 I think... I haven't tried it, but I plan on trying it this weekend. :good:
Here's the link by the way :

I have tried the rom and here is my take on it. The battery charge meter is glitchy and inaccurate. Fast charging doesn't work correctly. The performance of my device went down a massive amount. Even Facebook was having issues with lag. NFC doesn't work at all so if you use tap and pay with your phone you will lose that function. My battery life was hit and miss. Some charges I would get 16 hours of medium use and others I would be lucky to get 8 as well as the phone would be constantly really hot. In the end I decided to drop back to the S8+ ported version of Android N for stability and battery life.

Max Lee did a video on it with links ext. Just google S8+ Oreo port for note 5
So I have figured out the issue behind charging. For some reason android sees it as a 2550MAh battery. So it essentially stops the device from charging once it hits that capacity. This is fine for the S6 because that is exactly the correct size. However on the note 5 it's a solid 10% less than the actually specs of the Li Ion that comes packed inside. I can only assume if there was a way to show android the proper capacity it would fix the issue with charging
Here is a snap showing what it detects as
Hello,
I have been using my Note 5 with Extreme Debloated ROM 3.3 (that's Android 6.0.1) for over 2 years now and it's been working fine (fast and smooth, no lag and no crashes) except there are still some bugs which are long overdue that have never been fixed since no newer version of that great ROM has ever been released.
My question is: Which other better ROM is there or that you have personally used or are using on your Note 5 without any issues especially with the camera app? I don't need a ROM with tons of bells and whistles (deep tweaks and customization a la VenomROM). Just something debloated and light but which retains the original Samsung Apps with an updated Android - it doesn't have to be the latest but newer than 6.0.1 would be nice. In my experience, the Note 5 is still a pretty good device in 2018. The camera is great and my phone simply works. No crashes and it's not noticeably slow when opening apps and i don't play games on it. At some point, i will consider changing for a newer model as the battery degrades over time... Maybe for a Note 10? But for now, i'm very concerned with updating my current custom ROM which doesn't allow me to install the Galaxy Apps for instance, since i'm using my phone mostly for photography these days.
Why not just download the latest official ROM from Samfrew.com? Then flash Magisk via TWRP.
There is one that im using which is very very superb, and its oreo it has few bugs like bluetooth but it good, floyed rom for note 5 just google it at this xda
