Animation gif - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Coming from a Note 8 and S9 I miss the animation gif function. Is there something similar on the Note 9?

I think Yes.
Pull out your S-Pen and Choose Smart Select. On the tool-bar that appears, select "Animation Gif"
Hope this helped.

I don't see little "T" icon on the S-pen smart select

I don't think I see it anywhere on any review
and no reviewer ever mentioned about how great smart select can extract the text just like note 4?
is it me or it's gone?
I know I can do copy paste using spen on the unselectable text where finger can't do copy
but it's just more steps
andddddd the multiple smart select is gone too!!
I'm not getting mine until Sept 11th
Its not gone, its in the little pop-up menu that comes up for the s-pen.

you mean when you hover the spen pretty close to the screen?
or when you detached the spen and get pop up menus?
The menu that pops up when you pull out the pen, or touch the onscreen pen icon (if youve already closed the menu when it opened itself up upon removing the pen from the phone).
oh what you mean is the smart select
I was asking about the text extraction on the smart select rather than how to access the smart select
it's on note 4
several people confirmed that it's gone and no more multiple smart select to be combined on one scrapbook

it is really a shame! this year they introduce the scrollable screen cap, yet they just remove the multi screen cap? why on earth can't they just keep both? probably all in the name of "no-one uses it" :crying:

omg you're right
that multiple smart select is gone too
it's a pity if they decide to remove it because "no one uses it"
I love to group several pics in one scrapbook with description on each photo
is there an alternative way of saving several images in one scrapbook
or use s note and manually add photo one by one?
So we don't have text selection for an selectable text?
You can use Optical Reader to get text from images. I know it's not ideal, but it works.
It seems to only work from camera....

It is sad that we don't have the powerful OCR feature in smart select where one could 'read' text from pictures which would then be editable.
Smart select has been downgraded by Samsung and that is a real pity.
Wish someine from Samsung gets this feed back and does something about it

[Q] Does "Action Memo" link to dialer

I have played with 3 note 5's at different shops, they have not had sims in them, but when i play with "Action Memo" from the pen menu, then highlight a phone number i have written, there is no option to dial the number, Found the same issue with the Note 4.
I have a Note 3 and can use this function no problem. I am wondering if this has been removed, or is somehow related to there being no sim.
If it has been removed, this is crazy, as this is a phone, and for me it is common to write a phone number down while on the phone, then need to dial it.
i.e hey can you give me bill number? Write in on my phone, highlight it, dial it.

I have the ability to do so on my N920T. Didn't have the feature on my Note 2.
(Just a random number I wrote, didn't actually try initiating the call but I don't see a reason why it wouldn't)
You can do it like in all prior note phones
ścribbled from my Note 5
Link to Action icon not coming up
In my note 4 the Link To Action icon is not coming up. I am using Lollipop 5.0.1. What might be the reason??

hi ,
firstly ,i have not got my Note4 with me at moment( so cannot check )
,but is it not the same as Note 5 ?
When you open note ,top right you see more( ? )
press "more" and you will see sub actions .(No link actions appears )
When you write a number down on note and press "more " the "link to action " option appears ?
look at screenshot It could have been move /change in your updated software v 5.0.1 ?
good luck

The Note 4 does not have the link to action button in the more menu. I also do not have my Note 4 near by, but I remember it being a separate icon somewhere on the action memo. Maybe one of the bottom corners?

Unfortunately, there isn't any. In bottom right corner there is icon to switch to S-Note.

My bad, it's on the top. Link to action debuted on the Note 4. It's definitely on there.
See, no option.

Turn off soft buttons

Figured out a way to turn off the buttons in basically any app.

Yeah it's one of the first thing I looked for when I got my S6
His post is about disabling the keys themselves so you don't accidentally hit them while gaming.
Works great

No Help option in Quick Settings Tab S2

I have a Galaxy Tab S2 T713 Nougat, rooted. When I drag down the quick settings I don't seem to have a Edit button. I have attached a screenshot.. This is not a critical problem but I would appreciate any assistance.
Thank You.

What do you mean edit button?
Do you mean to modify the quick shortcut panel?
Just tap the 3 dots.

Well duh! I already tried that and it opened a window with Button order and Button grid. I only tried Button order and did not try Button grid - which opened a window with icons to add.
I should have been more thorough but Nougat also should have been a bit more clear about where the pencil icon went to.
Thank you.

Bixby Quick Commands short cut drag down the notification bar

With the new update for S10 you can customize the Bixby butto to open other stuff.
I want to program the button to automatically drag down the notification bar.
Does anyone has an idea how to do that?

I don't have mine in hand just yet but from what I've seen, the app referred above is significantly more superior than the options Samsung gives for the Bixby button.

I think you need to check out this thread here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s10/themes/app-bxactions-remap-bixby-button-single-t3903172
From there, the developer would probably be able to assist you much faster.
