Use my account to unlock bootloader on a Mi8 Chinese version! - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
I have a Mi8 Chinese version with unlocked bootloader and global ROM installed by the seller.
I also have a Mi account with bootloader unlock permission.
I was wondering, can I use my account to unlock bootloader again in case I accidentally brick my phone.

You need to associate your Mi account to your phone, which is probably currently associated to the seller's account. After that you will be able to unlock the phone by yourself and un-brick the phone in case it is needed.

Bound/associated account question

I have mi 8, with unlocked bootloader from the seller. I know that if the bootloader is being accidentally locked it is very important to have the account that it has been unlocked with in the first place - smth like bound to the device trough developer options. Well I have never been able to enter my account from the developer options because the phone came unlocked but when I flashed the phone recently it was written: device is associated with existing mi account, and I unlocked with my acc. Does this mean that my account is associated/bound to the device? Or is there difference between bound and associated? Or differences between bounding phone and bounding bootloader?

Lock and then unlock "Global" Variant

Hi all,
I had some doubt regarding the so called "Global" variant sold on AliExpress. Is it possible for me to flash the stock Chinese ROM and then lock the bootloader and then later unlock the bootloader and then flash a custom ROM? If yes, my doubt is this, if I wanted to unlock the bootloader after locking it, won't I require the sellers account or whatever he used to unlock the bootloader in the first since that account is linked to the phone?? If so, is there any possible way of removing that associated account and link your own so that it actually becomes your "OWN". Also, does banking apps, say GPay work on an unlocked bootloader???!
Thanks in advance.
Hi, look here Redmi K20 Pro
Read, understand and be careful what you do. I'd NOT recommend locking the bootloader again.

On AliExpress if a listing says global variant, then it's going to be a global model, if it says global ROM, then it's going to be a Chinese model with a global ROM installed by the seller.
You need to make sure you have the Chinese model before flashing the Chinese ROM and locking the bootloader.
It looks like the reputable sellers on AliExpress remove the phones from their Mi accounts, so there is a good chance you'll be able to link the phone to your own account and go through the unlock process yourself.
There's a couple of guides on these K20 Pro subforums to getting GPay to work on an unlocked phone. I'll leave to search them out.

Unlocked bootloader from China, unsupported apps

Hello,
I've been sold the Mi 9 t Pro 256 GB (or k20 pro) by what I thought was a trustworthy store, Phone House.
It turns out the device was sent from China and comes with the bootloader unlocked and Global Rom:
MiUi Global 11.0.5
Stable
11.0.5.0 QFKEUXM
I've realised some apps don't work from Google Play Store (Netflix, Disney Plus and probably more) and apparently it's because the bootloader is unlocked.
What I want is an official ROM with locked bootloader, so I don't have to download official apps from third party websites which I don't necesarily trust.
However I've been told I will brick the phone, because I don't have access to the account they used to unlock the bootloader and install the Global ROM; at least if they forgot to unlink the phone from that account, which I'm told is really common. I just want to own the phone I paid for, which seems quite reasonable to me.
Is there any way I can check if my phone is still linked to the chinese account they used to unlock the bootloader? Has anybody gotten out of this situation and if they did, can they tell me what steps should i take?
Regards.

Can you link your phone with your Xiaomi account and number?
Most of us here wish unlocked bootloader , install twrp and magisk and most of your app problems go away.

If your phone is originally a Chinese K20 Pro then you can only lock the bootloader with the Chinese ROM. If you try and lock the bootloader with any other ROM you will brick the phone
It doesn't matter who unlocked the bootloader. You will be able to flash the Chinese fastboot ROM and lock the bootloader, without any problems. After which you can use the phone completely as normal.
If you decide you want to unlock the bootloader again, you will have issues if the phone is still linked to another Mi account. Some sellers have been good at removing phones from their Mi account, some have not.
If you flash a different region ROM and lock the bootloader and you haven't properly linked the phone to your Mi account before (which is done during the bootloader unlock process), then your bricked phone will be hard bricked and can only be recovered by flashing with an authorised Mi service account.
First job is to determine exactly which region model you have. This can be done with an online IMEI checker. Then download the correct fastboot ROM for the phone and flash it with the Mi Flash Tool, using the flash and lock option.

How to Link phone to your own MI account which came Unlocked from reseller

I bought MI 8 device when it released from a reseller here in my country where I am residing and it was a Chinese variant of the phone that was preinstalled with Global MIUI Rom which came unlocked (It shows Unlocked when the phone boots up).
Since my phone came Unlocked, it has to be linked with the resellers Mi account. I want to relock the bootloader and then unlock it again using my own MI account without getting the phone bricked.
This way in case I ever get bricked while installing custom ROMS i can fix it with my MI account itself.
How can I make my device Link to my account for Unlock? Is there any process where I can Lock it again and then Unlock it with my MI account? Currently in MI account under settings, I can see that my phone is listed but then I am not sure if I have the right to Unlock or Lock the phone with my account as it could be linked to another account for that.
Answers will be greatly appreciated.
No one??

Question Locked device

Hello
I bought a used Mi 11 with locked bootloader. The owner of this Mi 11 has forgotten the Passwort from his Mi Account. So we cant unlock it with the Mi Tool. Is there a opportunity to unlock the device? Or perhaps to flash the reinstall the Rom and erase all user data?
Thanks

If he has only "forgotten" his password and if you are always in contact both, there a option for retrieve/reset actual password like all customer account.
But if you can't log/connect your Mi 11 with a legit Mi account there any way to unlock your bootloader.
Don't wipe your device also because at the first boot Xiaomi asking Mi account for using / unlock the device (linked account)
The seller has no data from the Mi Account for me. In this case, theres is no way to unlock the bootloader?

It's not the question, data or not data, you must log Mi account with the owner Mi account linked to this device.
Xiaomi want a proof you are the owner, device is not stealed.
So ask him to reset the password
Like @Pho3nX said if the previous owner had a mi account it is very easy to change password or phone number associated to the phone, you just need to go to the web browser and reset your account password, they will send you a temporary code to the phone number associated to the phone. If you dont have the number you can associate another number and reset the password. If the device of legit and not Stolen it should work just fine, I have changed my mi account password in the past having my device locked after getting rid of some stock apps, but it is very easy to recover that password.
