The function prevent accidently part of body skin touches the phone screen when the phone in pocket. To disable, go to Display > Block Accidental touches.

Something is covering the sensor on the top of the phone. Either clean it and make sure nothing is covering it when you wake your phone or disable the block accidental touches feature

Not to be a jerk but you could've answered your own question by simply using the search function in settings. Before you could fully type "Touch input" it will have narrowed it down to the setting you were looking for.
That setting search function is an awesome tool with all the options we have.

I have this issue. There is obviously nothing blocking the sensor, but this message pops up in a stuttering manner for a few seconds.

No I read that you did everything you could. The sad thing is typing on the literal text in the setting search would've taken you right to the answer.
I just wish you put as much effort in the "exhaustive search", as you put into griping about good advice..
I mean you could just take a gander at the screen shots and see how easy it is.
Nevermind next time you get a pop up that's too hard to decipher, you can make the daunting task of searching settings.
And that's how you fish.

Having this issue as well. I like the feature so I will deal with the weirdness. Whenever I plug in my charger my screen flickers with that message about 8-10 times within 2 seconds then goes away.

That's good information but in my case it happens with the new charger that came with the Note 9. My car charger and my old Note 8 charger

Wow you are seriously butt hurt over this.
Literally you could've been like "wow, so many ways to do something on this phone thanks for one more tool in my tool box".
Nevermind checking the extensive manual that answers a lot of these questions. Let's not pretend this is hard info to find. It's the phone doing what it was designed to do, not some broken feature you need to troubleshoot.
I keep forgetting this is XDA, it's easier to ask for the answer right in front of you as opposed to learning how to answer the questions yourself.
I'll report back to my support group and tell them mission accomplished. Someone learned something new.
Knowing is half the battle!

...

If you pick up your phone with your hand over the proximity sensor (top of phone), you will get this pop-up. I turned the setting off and it went away but the screen did unintentionally come on while in a pocket. Therefore, it appears best to leave it on and ignore the message.

Can a mod delete pcriz's comments and androidwarriors responses after the question was answered. I think this topic was a valid question.
Samsung has switched up a lot for the better but the downside is they moved it all around. We are stuck in such a monotonous get to point A to point B environment these days the answer was right in front of his face but he couldn't see it because he was too used to the tools he always uses. I am still learning little things about this phone as I go too. I think his question was valid, seeing as Samsung experience is still quite new, Samsung experience is such a huge improvement over TouchWiz, the note9 is loaded to the gills with features and nuances and Samsung (and other OEMs including Google) having features that have trained us to a certain mindset for years. Coming back to the note line after a hiatus hasn't been overwhelming for me but I can see where coming to the note would be like a longtime Android user switching to iOS or even vice versa. For me, still using my work iPhone is so underwhelming I can't figure stuff out and I am pretty savvy with tech. iOS users can find Android overwhelming. And listening to the apologies Apple users come up with now, compared to yesteryear, when many people are finding out iOS isn't as easy to use as has been claimed, it's just what they grew up on, kind of like learning a language. There is a lot to grasp by being immersed in the ecosystem, but more to find out by asking details and learning, learning that can be turned into a tool to find more stuff on your own. Dude obviously tried and put out one more flag up for something he might not have had control over and the response was douchebaggery at it's finest. I find the questions dumb when people are asking me how do I get such great battery life and how they can do it but are unwilling to take their phone off full brightness, theme it to take advantage of OLED's self emitting pixels and are stacked to the gills with social media and email accounts because they have to be that connected and are not willing to streamline portability. Finding the sweetspot for my notifications on the note9 was aggravating for the first time in years as there are many layers to it now. I had to experiment and read about other questions to figure it out. Settings are still taking some time to get used to with main settings, app settings and figuring out where the granular settings are when they're not in places or labeled to what we are accustomed to. To each his own but pcriz obviously overstepped the bounds for a valid question.

App to answer and end touch screen?

Is there an app for this? And does the phone have to be rooted? just seems practical on the touch screen
What do you mean, like for in-call options?
I think he doesn't want to hit the green phone button, but the screen, to answer a call, as well as ending the call w/o using the red End button.
Look there has been multiple threads on this... that and a full screen pic for the incoming calls
Yea i just saw a thread for the full screen pic but i can careless about that.. all i want it the answer and the end to be on the screen so i dont use the buttons on the phone.. used an iphone for a bit and now i keep catching myself touching the screen in frustration.. So is there something? and does it require a root? can I have a link if its not to much trouble ..the search feature here forwards u to google so its tough to use

Don't worry about them. Your question is legitimate, and the suggestion to use the buttons on the phone was a workaround, not a resolution. These internet tough guys like to show their virtual muscles for everyone to see. Just learn to ignore them.

Back to topic.
I would agree with Turbo, it would be cool to have a function like this, however, when you are on your phone, your cheek rubs against the screen, (and don't tell me yours don't ever touch the screen) it would be nice to be able to have this option with an enable/disable function.

Well that WAS a problem b4 cupcake, not sure if you noticed or not but while on a call after several seconds the screen locks/sleeps, and when on a call and the Dialpad is up it requires a "Double-Tap to unlock" on screen to unlock it. Unless your chewing gum or bouncing it off your cheek it should not be a problem. You can also use Shake Awake.
Now if someone could make a app like OP wants, it would be NICE, as I been looking for something like it for a long time.

True, forgot about that. also if you are using a headset, it doesn't matter either...
Yes, the Hero ROM describes what you're talking about. It has a Green "ANSWER" button and a red "DECLINE" button, just like the iPhone.
Unfortunatly, an APP can't do this yet because it's all built into the version of the phone, not an application itself. If someone could port it over, that'd be great!

I used to run off of Haykuro's builds since he started making them. I haven't seen any HTC builds with an on-screen answering option like the Hero build. I know all about the HTC dialer, but there's no on-screen things that are drastically different.
Besides, the Magic and the Dream have no difference UI-wise except for the tiny extra features that Haykuro's "H" builds have offered.

Screen sensitivity on IS

Hi,
While reading IS review on pocketnow.com I've found them saying that the screen sensitivity on IS is not good. But I'm interested and with others opinions from actual owners of IS. Thanks.

I think it's very responsive myself. The only problem I've had in that regard is that I have to press down for a split-second before I swipe down to unlock the screen, otherwise it doesn't respond properly - but I've seen this on other Sense-based phones too.

Perhaps the reviewers were on some kind of experimental drug.. i don't know.. i am too.. but, anyway. the screen sensitivity is just great. Have been using the IS for about three weeks now. Not one hick-up, restart, freeze what so ever.
it has been flying fast all the time.
If anything IMHO its a little over sensitive, sometimes it feels like I don't actually have to make physical contact before the IS makes the action.

I have to agree with you, the response time is instant, i haven't rebooted the phone since i started using it. roughly been 3 weeks 2 days uptime.
Although i sometimes hear an echo on my end but when i ask the person on the other end abt the quality of the sound they all say its crystal clear :S

Yes, definately also something I have noticed! This never happened with my Legend, so the screen of the IS must be more sensitive!
Ive noticed this and Ive been trying to figure out what it is. Swiping between home screens is slower than on my Legend and it takes a more firm/resolute (I have to overerly excagerate the finger movement) to get it to move sometimes. It starts moving, but then it stops.
Ive got a small metal piece stuck between screen and phone body, so this might affect my device. Read own post on the matter http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021486

This is exactly what I have noticed. You might could say, it's just too sensitiv.
I haven't had any sensitivity issues - so far so good
I have a mate who got this phone & he is having issues with applications opening without him touching the screen he just has to put his finger about 2mm from screen & they open eg messages/camera etc.
Anyone else having this problem ?
Is there a setting he can change to fix this sensitivity issue especially as he has moved from an old Nokia non smartphone ?

How to make the Note 4 fingerprint scanner 6 times more accurate

Hey everyone! I've noticed a lot of posts about people having a hard time using the fingerprint scanner so I figured I'd put together a quick video on how to make the fingerprint scanner up to 6 times more accurate. I've done this and I never have issues with using it anymore. Being XDA forums I'm sure a lot of you are already familiar with this method, but I can see that there are still many who don't know it yet. I hope this helps!

Are you sure? When I click the video it starts playing the fingerprint scanner tutorial. What video do you see when you click it? I'm wondering if the link included the playlist and it somehow skipped the first video for you.
I already made a post about the fingerprint scanner earlier.
You can see the topic here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/to-fingerprint-scanner-bad-inaccurate-t2919453
And also, it's better to register the fingerprints with different angles on one finger, because it's not always that you are going to hold the phone exactly the same each time you takes up the phone in your hands.
On second link it's is OK. I'm setup and looks good. I will try more tomorrow. Thx.
Tested that, the accuracy is still ****ty. I think it might be software issue or some people have fingers that are not compatible with Samsung.

Try testing the fingerprint hardware *#0*# Senor > 2nd from bottom FingerPrint test> NormalScan.
All Test should result in a PASS or maybe your hardware is faulty.
*You have to scan your finger immediately when you see Ready

I've tried both methods. The video in this thread was viewable yesterday but not today. But anyway, I set the thumb with the angled swipe like holding single handed but it's actually two handed. As the video suggested for thumb swiping, I focused on part of the thumb each sweep using the thumbnail and button as a reference. Then setup another thumb print using the fleshiest part of the thumb. The index finger seemed to be most accurate with the vertical sweep but now thumb is just as accurate using the method suggested here. There is another sensor test where you can swipe to see readings of your scanner with programmed fingerprints (dial *#0*# then scan button is middle of third row, scroll down to Fingerprint test/Normalscan). Seems I have to hit back 3x to actually back or exit the test mode.
I think over time, a better method will be learned. Seems you have to train your brain for the most consistent swipe but sometimes the first swipe just cleans the scanner or I'm just scanning too quickly when prompted. Maybe both apply? Seems fairly accurate but I've disposed of a lot of scans and programmed new ones with trial and error. FWIW, for me, the thumb works best with the angled sweep. That may change.
I wonder if the reverse direction sweep is method to test each fingerprint saved? If fails, try to program until works.

Yeah, you're right, that's the only time they take your fingerprints. They never do prints when people are born or at the DMV or at theme parks or a hundred different other points in your life. I'm pretty sure I even had to do them at school once. If the government or a corporation wanted your fingerprints, they wouldn't need a phone to get them. Honestly, how paranoid are you? What the hell do you think they're even going to do with your fingerprints? Unless you've committed a crime, what are you afraid of? Them unlocking your phone?

Time for a new tin foil hat I believe!
I doesn't really matter. A scanner that reads a stripe at a time is never going to be as precise as TouchId which takes a photo and doesn't depend on motion. I've tried 'training' my Note 4 sensor many times and it never works reliably, and in the end its just frustrating.

All tests results on my Note 4 are "pass". Setting up the fingerprint is no problem at all, almost 100% of the fingerprints are registered the first time. Used different directions and angles, one thumb 6x. But when it comes to actually using the fingerprintscanner it's terrible. Sometimes one swipe is enough to unlock the device. Most of the time (appr. 8/9 out of 10 times) I need two or more (up to 5/6) swipes. For me absolutely useless. The fingerprintscanner was one of the reasons I bought the note 4 but i've switched of the use of this scanner.
Agree, not an Apple fan boy but had a iPhone 6 plus for a while. That fingerprint unlock was amazing. So easy. I'm going to use a pin again.
My fingerprint reader actually worked pretty good till the FR hardware crashed.
sent from my Note4
My scanner works just fine, I dunno why so many people are having issues with it. I get some mis-reads when I swipe it wonky but it works beautifully 99% of the time. Its one of the biggest reasons I bought this phone.

Replacement = Even more problems.

Had a n6 with half purple screen and had it exchanged.
This new one is horrible ..
It seems to get really warm compared to the other and when it does, boy does it lag. Just typing this out, it's lagging.
I also noticed that my Bluetooth has "silence" spots while listening to music. Every 2-3 minutes, it will stop for a split second like it can't buffer, even if the music is on the device.
Another thing that may just be me, it seems the keyboard doesn't predict as well, like it's not even touching the keys I'm swiping.
Lastly, half the screen is white and half is a really yellow color. Very irritated by this device. Makes me want to throw it against a wall.
Your first problem can be resolved by using a custom kernel that does not use mpdecision. Mpdecision is known to be power inefficient and sends your CPU to be sitting in wasteful frequencies causing your phone to generate additional heat. My phone became really warm with mpdecision on.
Secondly, I don't use bluetooth so I can't comment.
Third. That isn't a N6 problem, its a problem with the software of the keyboard application that you're using. SwiftKey works great for me.
Fourth, can't really comment on that. My screen looks good, your phone should be uniformly the same color, you can try changing RGB and see if it would do anything. I recommend turning off adaptive brightness.
Good suggestions I suppose.
Only problem with those, I'm not gonna root or use a custom kernel. The last n6 only had a faulty screen and no other problems. That one didn't need any custom root activities.

If you don't root, or use ROM's then why post about it on a developer forum? I'm not trying to be rude just wondering why here. If it has more issue call moto and have them send a new one. My RMA phone is fine 0 issues so far and I'm happy with it.
This is a user forum as well as a developer forum.
I'm posting here to show there is problems with these phones.
Why does it matter to you?
If you are having those problems on stock, and don't want to root/etc, then your only option is to return it again. Pretty simple.
If you are looking for confirmation that your experience isn't 'normal' on the stock phone, I can confirm it is not.

I'm not trying to argue at all I was just curious. I would have the phone replaced if you want to gave those issues fixed without modifying the phone. Best of luck with the issues because it's not fun when you can't fix them.

I scratch my head also. XDA is a developer's forum. There are tons of other sites more suitable to those not wanting to root/ROM it up.
Sounds good. Let's discuss dbrand skins and the such.
I doubt this has anything to do with memory leaks or anything that's been discussed on lollipop.
I'd say you have a faulty SOC and I would replace it. My wife had similar issues on an S5 where it would stutter and fall behind almost and get warm. The icing on the cake was while taking video, normal 1080p video, and it would drop frames like crazy. Maybe 22fps or so was al, it was getting.
I actually agree with 20degrees on this one... There are tons of non development/customization threads on here, and XDA has a pretty knowledgeable user base so it is a convenient one stop shop for info.
People just need to ignore/keep their comments to themselves in the Q&A and general sections if they have nothing constructive to add to the topic of the thread.

Ir sensor test app

I've got a feeling one of the sensors on the front of this phone isn't working. I can usually position the phone at an angle to see the faint red lights from the ir sensors on only 3 of them, but the top left corner I see nothing.
The phones responsiveness seemed better when I first got it a couple months ago but doesn't seem to wake up as easily as before.
Rooted moto x 2014 running stock and xposed, unlocked bootloader
Anyone know of an app that will test ir sensors?

Turn off your lights, or use a camera from about 10 inches away and look very closely at your phone and you can actually see the emitters working with your own eyes. They turn on when Display is off, and the moment Display turns on, the emitters turn off. There are 3 emitters total- two at the bottom and one just to the right of the earpiece. Their purpose is to essentially bathe your hand in IR light, which the sensor (to the left of the earpiece) then detects. That's how the system works. When documentation states that there are 4 low power sensors, it's really just for the layman who wouldn't necessarily understand the actual way it works without it being explained. Yes there are 4 devices on the face of the phone to make it work, but only one of them is an actual sensor, the other 3 are emitters. Hence, the 3 bright and less frequency blinking lights. If you use a camera, you can see the fainter 4th light, which is the actual sensor. When the sensor detects a slight fluctuation in it's readings, it causes the 3 emitters to stay on constantly instead of blinking for a couple of seconds thereby increasing the chances of detecting the hand. If you're still enough you can see the 3 emitters going back to blinking to save battery.
Approaching the phone from a very less height, will not cause the IR to be deflected to the sensor to the top of the phone. When you reach for the phone, your hand needs to be high enough from it when you come in from the bottom that it is within the sensor's field of view. Otherwise it won't work. It seems that 3-4 inches is the lower limit. Anything closer than that and it won't pick up your hand until it's closer to the top of the phone.
That's great news that it isn't malfunctioning. I was worried that xposed was causing a problem. Only reason I'm not upgrading to 5.0 is because of xposed.

Yeah, you're fine. A few people were confused about how the IR system works, so you aren't alone. And agreed about Xposed. Both my Moto X and Nexus 5 are still on 4.4.4 because I think KK+ Xposed blows Lollipop out of the water. The only way I'll switch to Lollipop is when I buy a new phone that ships with it.
I am bumping this thread so people can see what not to do on XDA. Taking someone else's post and trying to pass it off as your own is not cool, and is very rude and disrespectful. What @manrock has done here is a smack in my face. He clearly tried to pass my post off as his own by adding his own words to it, and didn't cite/quote me as the original source of the information. Ladies and gentlemen, if you don't know the answer to a question, either don't post at all, or make it clear that the answer you are giving is not your own, and give credit where credit is due.

Ok, first off, my apologies for not mentioning you being the source of information. I was too lazy to jump into the other thread to get your name again.
Now that we've got that out of the way, I don't understand why are you being so sentimental about this. You bumped the thread yesterday, bumped it today, you even sent me a frickin PM. To prove what????
I understand what I did was a mistake, and i apologise again, but you seem so tied up with me "STEALING" your reply, you're forgetting the reason why I did it. It was to help someone, not to show myself off. It seems what pissed you off is the fact that I didn't give you credit. And as I understand, that is of paramount importance to you. But is it even more important than the purpose for which the forum was built, to help others. Is it so important that you have to rant about it, spamming the forum.
If it is, then I apologise. again.. I'm now gonna go thank one of your posts, cause from your rants you've insinuated, i was trying to steal one from you. I don't wanna owe you anything and risk another rant . Have a good day

It's because you CLEARLY tried to pass off my reply as your own. You weren't too lazy to search for an answer, copy mine, and add to it, but you were too lazy to cite me as your source? Right. You could have just copy/pasted the link to the thread that my answer was in, that's what most people would have done. But instead, you wanted to post it as your own response. However you want to look at it, it's a load of crap. And don't worry about thanking one of my posts, I get enough thanks without copying other people and having to ask for them in my signature.

Right, says the guy who asks for them in his signature. What I do care about is when I take the time out of my day to type up a thorough response to someone's question, and someone else comes along, copies it verbatim, and passes it off as their own. Go ahead and keep deflecting, it doesn't change the fact that you're dishonest and like to take credit for other people's work.
I'm done now, feel free to get the last word in.

Dude, we all share info and re-share it. That's what's so great about this community. I know what I know from learning from others, and I try to help others with that info by re-sharing it. I don't feel obliged to credit those who have made "discoveries" and neither should others. UNLESS, it's code where the author has specifically requested permission to recycle it. I mean, when would your "patent" expire in the future, where you wouldn't feel offended that others recycled what you contributed - 1 month, 1 year, 10 years?

Re-sharing info is one thing, but that's not what was done here. I'm actually surprised that you don't see how it can be taken as disrespectful. Whatever though, it's done and over with and I have no interest in getting into another conversation over it.
