For some time, I have a problem with Gmail notifications and downloads from Google Chrome.
For Gmail, when I get the notification and click on Delete from the notification, the email is deleted from Gmail, but the notification remains in the notification center and I have to do a swipe to remove it.
For Google Chrome, when I download something that is a photo or a video or a document, the download begins, and the notification appears. Once the download is complete, the progress bar of the download appears in the notifications, which instead continues to say "download completed". I do not understand when a download ends if not going to see in the download folder. I am forced to do a swipe even in this case.
I have deleted gmail cache, chrome, download app, download management, to do wipe cache from recovery, to make recovery wipe data.
Anything!
Can someone help me? Thank you
Hey, i got the same issue, tho i use inbox. Also I made an support ticket, didn't got any answer...I think it's from an earlier update 347 ?!

I don't know...
For the issue with Google Chrome, I tried to use Firefox and it works, and both downloads are managed perfectly.
As for Gmail, I do not want to use anothser client.
Do you think it's an update before the 347, but which app? Or of the system? I have the latest version of the OS, 504 ... We hope that fix this problem is unbearable, not so much Chrome, but more Gmail ..
From my side it started like that after update(399 now). Also on the same ticket I told them that the contact search doesn't work correctly for contacts in Google agenda.
I think its related to Google Play services and some update.

I do not know but it is very frustrating for those who use the notification center assiduously to see notifications.
For pure cryptic, I flash android oreo (using the magnificent Tecalote's guide) and the notification bug is not present.
Then I returned to the stock version, with the latest update b504 and the bug persists. Too much trouble.
have you solved?
Good to know that with oreo it works as intended. I didn't got any answers from Huawei support ..
Note to self : stay on Android One

Hello.
I was having trouble with the facebook notifications not working in 1.5.2.
I tried to uninstall/install the app
Clear cache
Installed 1.5.0
Re-flash ROM
etc etc etc...
And nothing worked.
I logged with a friends Facebook account in my Captivate and Push notifications were working !!
I re-logged to with my account and notifications still not working, so WTF?
So I started to mess around with the Facebook settings, privacy etc, and nothing helped to receive push notifications...
Until I deactivated my account and re-activated, and now I have notifications back! Is like a hidden setting in facebook that tells if push notifications are enable/disable, and after re-activating my account in some way is restores it, no idea but is working now...
If you have this problem, give it a try!
To deactivate: Account->Account Settings->Deactivate Account
To Activate: just log in.
Best Regards
Trying it now ... I've tried everything else... hope this works ...
EDIT: HOLY MONKEYS BATMAN IT WORKED! I'VE HAD MY DINC FOR 7 MONTHS NOW, WITH PROBABLY 12 DIFFERENT ROMS, AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HAS EVER EVER WORKED! Thankyou!
Details:
I just flashed the newest version of Magnolia with Clockwork 3.x. Clean slate wipe (other than sd).
I deleted the old version of fb that came with the rom (just from the app list in settings), cleared all data from that....DID NOT set up facebook for HTC Sense when doing original setup of phone right after reflash.....
Logged onto FB from my pc, deactivated, waited until I got the email, then logged in again.
DL latest FB from the market and set it up, asked someone to comment on a status, and voila, fb started notifying me EVERY TIME someone did, not just every 30 mins like the settings show...
YAYAYAYAY!! I'm so happy now! I'm gonna pass the word along.
Thank you!
Did it work for you?
Yes - see above edited post!

My notifications are popping up in real-time. The only thing that goes once hourly is messages or friend requests, as far as I can tell. I'm watching my facebook on my computer and my phone alerts me nearly at the same moment my pc does.
umm... ??
deactivate my facebook account? message posted day before april fools day...
something doesnt add up
You can do that without deleting your profile. I hear of people deactivating it everytime they log off for privacy concerns. When deactivated you dont show up on any of your friends pages or searches. Just log on to reactivate, you'll get an email welcoming you back.

DesktopSMS forwards all your incoming SMS on your *Android Phone* to your Gmail to GTalk.
You can then reply to the chat request or email, and the response will be sent back from your phone as a text message. This is very similar to Google Voice, except you won't need a new number or anything annoying like that!
http://app.net/desktopsms
Installation:
1) Install DesktopSMS on your ANDROID PHONE. (Not onto your XOOM)
2) Login to Desktop SMS on your ANDROID ****PHONE****.
3) Install a Chat client like Google Talk (which may already be on your XOOM) onto your XOOM or desktop PC.
4) Receive a text. Watch as your text gets converted to an email and google chat message
5) Respond!
So, once again, this app is only installed on your phone. Then just install your favorite IM client on your desktop and tablet, and the rest will work magically!
You do not need to install this on both your phone and tablet like other apps. You do not need to be on the same network like other apps. This all works by magic (my servers).
Let me know what you think. This is in a free beta right now, so be prepared for some bugs! I'd love to hear your feedback.
Wrote you a PM
well, I don't have a smart phone so thats a problem.
I, like many others, have ditched their smartphomes and activated their xooms. I now only have a dummy phone. I didn't see a need in paying for two data plans because I ws rarey using my phone. Now I use it to talk and text.... even though I wish it was only to talk.
I am waiting for the day that I can SMS on my Xoom using my current phone number. Guess I'll jabe to keep waiting. lol
Works awesome...just had a conversation with myself, through gtalk. Hahaha havnt tried it with my xoom yet. But im pretty sure it will work just fine. Very good job
It looks great but I cannot seem to get it to work yet, Mr. Koush. I have it signed it with push notifications successfully on my gmail account on my OG Droid. I can do the test message from within the app and it pops up on my phone like always, but other than that it does nothing on my Xoom, or on anything else for that matter. It seems almost like the push notifications are not even being sent out.
EDIT: I found out what the problem was. I had the default messaging app totally disabled, as I am using Handcent SMS as a complete replacement to the default one. I would like to use Handcent SMS instead of the default one. I know its beta and I cannot wait for updates!

It looks like after you receive your first text from that person after you accepted the "chat invite" on your Gtalk account it syncs up with your current contact list automatically. It shows the phone number on the left side of the screen under your gmail account, but in the chat window it shows that contacts name in parenthesis.
This ofcourse is for if you are using the Xoom with Gtalk, such as myself. I haven't tried anything else yet.
Could it be that the contacts NAME will be in the gtalk LIST instead of phonenumber ?
OK, being a bit thick here.
I'm using GoSMS Pro, but as far as I know, the default messaging app is still active, just without any notifications... does this make a difference?
Not currently receiving any notifications in email or g-talk... :/

*edit* update took care of it, never mind.
@Koush
I am having an issue getting the app to try it out. When I tell the system to send me a link, it does, but it sends me a link for the link request page again. It does not send me a link to the actual app.
EDIT: Nevermind. I figured it out. Shouldn't browse until I had my coffee.

Is it possible that your push servers are blocked in China?
I can correctly Login with Google Account, but get an error on 'registering with push server....' (takes long and eventually times out)
Error message: "Login failed. Please check your password. If the error persists, please send a log to the developer"
here is a log... maybe it helps analyze why i can't connect with the push servers...
Ok, it's just updated, and when I go to send a test SMS, it brings up
The application GoSMS was found installed. If you do not recieve a text message, please verify that it has not disabled SMS notifications in the application's settings.

So that's cool, then I send the test. GoSMS then pops up the text, as it always does.
However, it still doesn't appear to be sending me an email.
When it says "please verify that it has not disabled SMS notifications in the application's settings", does it mean the default Messaging app?
I've tested by disabling the taskbar notification for GoSMS and re-enabling it for the default Messaging app, but even then, there is no sound nor visual cue that an SMS has arrived... is this why it's not working? Has GoSMS broken my default messaging app?

I have a Note 8 on At&t and Verizon. I have Facebook Messenger on both phones. Most notifications do not come through, i do not see a chat head pop up nor do i see a badge on the app. They only pop up when i open the app. I have reinstalled the app on the Att Note 8, i have tried installing Messenger Lite. All other apps still work fine (WhatsApp, messages, Duo, Etc) This is only a facebook problem. I have made sure the permissions are all set to yes, it is on the internal storage, volume is up, notifications in app and on the phone are set to allow. But it will randomly show notifications but a majority of the time it will not show or make a sound for any facebook messenger notifications. I have tried with wifi connected and not connected. Once i close the app it is like it no longer runs in the background.
Any suggestions?

Click Menu in top right and select - Special Access
Select - Optimize Battery Usage ->
Click the dropdown menu towards the top of the screen that says: "Apps not optimized" - change to - All Apps
Turn off Messenger

Not sure why they're not coming through. I have a T-Mobile variant with no issues of messages and chat heads through messenger. I know you said you have checked your permissions but got to menu>settings>apps>messenger and check them there.
try "metal" from the play store and see if notifications work. it's a lightweight version of facebook app.
I have tried facebook lite and i have even set my facebook messenger in the special access to off but previously i had them all off. But i'll cross my fingers and see.
I am in the same boat. Same issue. All other notifications work except FB messenger. For a while i had messenger lite for a while and then installed the full messenger and that is when things stopped working. I've tried everything except wiping my phone at this point. To me it seems like the system keeps putting the app to sleep although i have as not monitored app.
I tried using Dual Messenger option ... and let it install 2nd app for Facebook and Messenger ... then i use my account on the 2nd app for both ... notification works perfectly. hope will help.

It seems to be working with the 2nd app. But my OCD kicks in and I can't stand that orange icons. :crying: but I will take it. BTW if anyone plans on wiping their phone it won't fix it. I just installed the Oreo beta with a complete wipe and didn't fix it.
Sorry been busy with work. I will try the dual message app and see if that works. I am using Nova Launcher on both my Note 8's weirdly enough it seems i get the messages on my Verizon variant but not my At&t one. Both have battery optimizer turned off. But thank you for all the feed back. I'll try dual messenger now.

I have a problem with Gmail. The best I can tell it started either right after the update to Android 9 or after the last Gmail update. My Gmail has stopped automatically checking for mail and notifying me. If I want to see and read any new Gmail I have to manually refresh the message list and even doing this, there is no notification sounds nor pop-up. On my Tab S4 which recently updated to Android 9 I don't have the issue. So I don't know what to do to fix it. It has all the permissions it needs and I have told the battery maintenance to let it run in the background. I'm hoping to avoid a factory reset. My note 9 is not rooted.
I am having a similar problem where it stopped to show notifications but when I open the app I find the new emails there.
Hope the experts can assist us.
Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk
Hello guys,
After I updated to 9.1,i noticed a weird behavior in the notification bar.
Before the update, when I had email notifications I had two options, to either click on the top right arrow of the email banner and expand the emails (some of them only shown) in the drop down notification menu, or to click directly on the banner and afterwards I was redirected in the email app, showing the inbox list.
After the update, if I click on the Gmail banner, it only expands the emails, regardless of I click on the arrow or wherever, but I have to select a particular email in order to be redirected to the Gmail app;after that it takes me straight to this particular email and not to the email list of the app, whereas before it was taking me to the email list.
I take it that this is either a bug, or a change of function.
The question is, is there any way to change the function? I am using my work email in which I receive maybe 600-1000emails per day and it is a PITA to get in a random email first and then to have to go back in order to see the email list..
Any ideas? Am I missing something?
P. S: of course this behaviour is not only in the Gmail app, but in all apps with multiple notifications
Cheers
T

I have no idea really. I was using this function maybe 50 times per day and now I have to bother going straight to the app, Gmail notifications are now useless to me given that I receive more than 600 emails per day, so the 3-4 expanded emails are pointless if I then have to go back, then go to the second home screen, then click again the app, to go to the same point I was with only one click before the update.. Maybe try one of the many email apps that might work for your specific needs? Gmail app is fine for average users not power users with so many emails.
Things change and our Huawei device is meant for consumers.

But it is not only the email app thingy, this is a change in the function of the notifications as a whole, it is just more of a pita with my email because I am checking it all the time..
Regerdless of the app, all the notifications now only expand and do not redirect you to the native app, but only to a particular notification. It is just stupid, they changed they way the notifications have been since android implemented more than a single notification for the apps. The primary function should be to take you in the app itself.. [emoji23]

Thanks for the input mate. However as I said, this is not a Gmail issue per se, but a general change in function of the notifications, regardless of the app.
In order to elaborate, let's say that you have WhatsApp notification in the bar (more than one single msg).. When you click on the notification it just expands, you cannot be redirected in the app, you can only click on one of the notifications and go straight into this particular msg.
Same applies to FB, to play store updates, to whatever app.
Let's hope that they will change this in the next updates.

Unfortunately the problem persists, even after. 328 update.
I really wish that we could somehow change the function. It is really pita to have to either go directly to one of the msgs in the notification, or to have to go back and then enter the app from the app menu of homescreen. Totally counterintuitive.
