Worst battery life I ever seen - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
So, I have my galaxy tab s2 for 6 months now.
And the battery is pretty bad.
When I got it, it was on android nougat. The battery was decent on android 7.0.
Few months ago I upgraded to android 8.0 and the battery got worse.
I need to charge it everyday. in settings there is no app draining, I also dont have that much apps only 30.
I tried rooting it an using greenify but won't help.
Any body suggestions?

You can go back to stock nougat.
Your Oreo rom it's not official.
It's a custom rom,and maybe that it's your problem with battery drain.
Cheers

And without information regarding your battery drain, like the apps mentioned there in settings, we wont be able to do ANYTHING for you. My glass sphere still is @ wizardshop24 for polishing.

[Q] Are Lollipop ROMs ready for primetime?

Hey all,
Last flashed on FireKat months ago and have been wanting to try out Lollipop but wasn't sure if it was ready yet. When I first used FireNote, mega was remarking that it would be a few months before KK was stable enough for everyday use.
Have you guys had good luck with custom Lollipop ROMs? Which ones are the "best" ones you'd recommend?
Sorta/not really. It's like smooth sailing except when you hit the new barrier reef. But it's pretty!
Latest problem is Viper4android can't possibly work until someone figures out how to enable SELinux Permissive mode. Then like something makes a noise or vibrates in a way you might have tamed with Xposed before. But there's no Xposed either. How do you fix it? You don't. I might just go back. Sucks either way for now.

Galaxy Note 3 - AT&T (sm-n900a)
How's battery life? Right now on firekat I'm losing 35% per hour during use and 3-5% per hour when the screen is off. Can't be worse than this.
Lack of viper and xposed aren't really deal breakers for me. Inconvenient, yes, but still usable.
Root WiFi hotspot still works I assume?

Running FK with them specs you didn't have something setup right. I'm lucky to use 35% in a days time just saying.

Yeah i figured that battery life was abnormal. Not sure how to troubleshoot it, though. When I go to look at battery stats (using GSam) to troubleshoot, it just shows that most of the battery is consumed by "Android System," followed closely by "Kernel (Android OS)." Battery life was pretty good when I first installed FK, but has gone down considerably since first install.
Any idea on how to further troubleshoot?

Not knowing how you flashed it. always odin back to nc2 then install ss and tr, Flash the rom. Never use battery saver. When using greenify make sure its uncheck in exposed. Don't forget to make a fresh backup of nc2 before flashing fk. But the new build v19n3 and v19n4 is running awesome. Great battery life. One thing I do is in tb is to change Google play services from system app to user app. Hope this helps. If you try this rom again and have problems jump over to the fk thread since this thread is Q&A on LP.

Yeah I installed FK according to all the instructions and it was fine at first. Battery life degraded over time, though. To give you an idea how long ago I installed FK, I have version 4 installed.
What I'm wondering is if i should install the newest FK or jump over to lollipop. Anyone have any experience with both? Curious to see all the new lollipop features and battery life can hardly get WORSE compared to what I have now.

Well I tried LP on a older Nexus 4 that I just tinker with I didn't like it. I put slimkat back on it. But the new fk builds is great. I'm not switching to LP unless Mega does a LP build for us. Like I said if you try the new builds just jump over on the threads if you have problems.
It looks like allianceROM is one of the more popular Lollipop ROMs. Anyone have any opinions on it vs firekat?
I think lollipop roms are awesome, very smooth. I did have better battery life with 4.3 then anyother

Happy Holidays All - OnePlus 3T

As of about 2 days ago, I have noticed a rapid drain of the battery. From 100-0 in about 8 hours.
And just now, recharged around 1:30 p.m., and as of about 4:00 p.m. it went from 97% to 55%, with "3 more hours of battery left" (I use the Dash Charger Only fwiw)
I have hardly been using it...at all. I leave the display on 50% normally, but again, not using it. And since noticing this, I even took the dispay to 25%.
I went to the settings/battery to find that right above Android is Dictionary, which I don't use. I force closed it
Dictionary 8%
Android System 6%
Android OS 5%
Facebook 5%
TypeApp Mail 4%
T-Mobile Name ID 4%
Google App 4%
Google Play Services 2%
I would welcome any help.
Try a factory reset?
I'm on the leaked nougat and this phone is blowing my mind. Just as good as the iPhone 7+ in regards to battery life and butteryness. Longest battery life I've ever used on an Android and the smoothest experience.
I'm so glad I didn't get the pixel, so glad..
Factory reset your phone and don't install any other apps for a while. See if the battery drain continues. If so, return your phone via manufacture's warranty, since you probably have a defective battery
Trying to avoid a Reset.
I restarted in safe mode, and it is much better now, only indicating is is one of my apps etc
I also have the Pixel XL which does blow this away even when this phone was at its peak. But, I guess we all use different apps
What do you have to do to get Android Nougat you said you have.
Thanks so much

Hey bro! Right now on oos 3.5.4, did face issues but I've flashed blu_spark kernel and phone's working like a charm again. You are using stock kernel right? do you have any experience with blu_spark so you can compare performance to your actual rom?
I am on stock correct. Otherwise don't root etc. Haven't for a few years with C and beat it. Cant keep all that knowledge together
So I guess I answered your question, but otherwise I am lost. Thanks for sticking with me everyone

Yup, stock everything from the leak. I haven't tried blu_spark since I'm not sure there are any kernels compatible with the leaked build

I was referring to (oos 3.5.3/3.5.4 + blu_spark) vs OOS 4.0 but thx anyway! I'll keep on MM & custom kernel untill final 4.0 is released.
Nougat is the solution
Im running the new nougat leaked and is been phenomenal here is a screenshot

What is the better OOS version?

I read have some problems in new OOS 4.0, battery drain for example.
When OP release a fix update?
3.5.3 is the best?
This device better than SGS7?

Subjective. For dev support, OP3T hands down. But Galaxy S7S has some hardware that is better than OP3T like wireless charging, camera, and SD card slot. It depends on what you want out of a phone.
What about my OOS question?
I'm not sure which one is the better one, but definitely the 3.5.4 is the worst.
I like some new features on 4, but I have experimented around 2 bugs with Facebook (it got freezed and I have to go and stop the app to be able to use it again).
Also, with the 3.5.3 I'd been getting more than 7 hrs of active screen. Now I just get around 6 and a half...
It's not a major difference or problem, I'm comfortable with using the nougat version...
there are no battery problems on oos4.
ppl using buggy apps which drain battery. don't listen to every **** they post.
OP releases many updates to this phone?
every month?

Horrible software?

I read that a lot of problems in OOS system.
battery draining.
sometimes device didnt boot up after ota update or stuck on TWRP recovery.
OP releases many updates and I need to wipe this phone after new version was released? why?
I'm debating whether to buy the device.
I have none of these issues
No issues here.
I would say that these are mainly user errors..., They can not read correctly (or make a little research) before doing something to their phone.
Battery drain can be caused by a lot of things (user settings, faulty apps, signal and so on).
No issue here about battery life nor updates.
Hi,
Flashed 3 or 4 times my 1+3 before offering it to my son when I received my 1+3T, also immediately unlocked and flashed from 3.5.3 to 3.5.4 and now on RR 7.1.1 by nicesoni_ash and never had one issue during processing.
I agree with @Manson79, mostly user errors. Reading some topics and not only one may save from a lot of fear and time...

I've had 0 issues even on a custom ROM and a really good SoT too.
I think a lot of fears come from other people who do very silly things to their phones and do not understand what they are doing.
Buy one, its a pretty good phone.
Yeah, i'm running android N and oos 4 stable. After the ota update, the phone was lagging, but then ive made a factory reset and now everything runs incredibly smooth. Im very pleased with it
please more comments..
many problems in OP3T !!!
even GPS problems..
No issues like this at all. Maybe Oxygen is not the most picture perfect and polished OS but definitely none of there happen
How the OP3T is the fastest phone in the world if the oxygen is didnt stable system?

I don't understand you.
The OP3T never tried to claim a title of 'fastest phone in the world'. It has great hardware yes. Oxygen OS is a great software.
It seems you're intent on bashing the OP3T, so you're better advised buying a more expensive phone.
Not sure if OP is trolling... anyway, most problems are user errors. Most don't even clear the cache after doing a major OS update like from MM to N, or install random apps that they have no clue what they do in the background, and then go complain.
I am using latest OOS and have zero issues. Battery life and speed are amazing.
On the initial Nougat update I had horrible battery. With the newest update, getting amazing battery. Everything seems to be running great.

That's funny. I had the exact opposite of you on the initial release. Good battery, poor performance. At least scrolling certain apps. But I agree, this release is running great.

Not quite this good. It was this newest update that seemed to fix it. Happy with the entire phone now.
I do have one problem with battery life as in attachment. But I still find it a decent phone with at least 4hrs of SOT. I'll still struggling finding what causes the issue but no success so far. I strongly recommend the phone, since battery is the Google issue.
I got no issue since I got my OP3T, mine is chinese version A3010 run 3.5.4 and now 4.0.1. I mostly got 6 to nearly 7 hours of SOT. I play game about 15mn to 30mn each charge and watch youtube all day long. I rocks two sim cards and mostly use wifi. If I use 4g, battery drop very fast.
This is on Official RR 7.1.1 not bad for being on cellular network about 80% of the time.

Six months since 7.0 and still unsure, Marshmallow or Nougat on N6

I've been very happy with MM on my N6 and still get great battery life and performance. I'm comfortable with ROMs/mods and my phone is pretty much where I want it in terms of functionality and UI. After months of debate, I'm still unsure if it's worth moving to Nougat (and not impressed with O preview either). I'm so unconvinced that I don't even feel like investing the time in testing 7.x particularly after reading posts of battery or compatibility issues. I'm not trying to be "stuck in the past" but just don't see a convincing reason to update.
The last dedicated thread I saw on MM vs N was from Oct 2016, any new opinions since then?
I'm thinking about moving back to MM because of the terrible battery life and performance on nougat.
In the same boat. MM seems to give me better battery life but Nougat seems a little bit more snappier.
I've only been on 7.0 for a couple of weeks, but no complaints.

Hey... Flashed Pure Nexus with EX Kernel as soon as its nougat iteration appeared and never looked back. Well I can't really compare about battery life as my phone is now 2 years old. Still it performs very well, nothing to complain about. Screen on time is the same and standby is better on Android 7 i think. Of course stock firmware is not as polished as it should, but custom ROMs are here to change that. I don't need that much mods on my phone anymore except theme, ad blocker, theme ready apps and maybe a few other things.
What kind of incompatibility issues are you talking about?
Well, I understand you don't want to waist your time , but it's just a matter of backup/flash/test. You won't loose anything and if you don't like it, you can always revert back to MM anyway. I think a weekend is more than enough to decide if it's worth it for you or not.
I usually prefer testing things myself and not based on people statements. Because everyone has his tastes and they unlikely match mines...
Cheers...
I'm on 7.1.1 stock with Franco Kernel, encryption disabled and F2FS filesystem.
No problems with stability, lags or battery life. In fact, I usually get around 5h+ of screen on time, which is pretty good for a 2 years old phone.
Usually, battery life and stability are user fault. Of course we can't say everything is related to users... But if you configure correctly your apps permissions, don't install anything out of the play store and don't do things like undervolting... You should be good to go.
Regards,
Rafael

I'd have to go back and look at the threads I've read, the only thing I recall being a deal-killer was not being able to use net.tethering under Nougat (is that still an issue)? I've been very happy with Pure (MM) with Franco on my other devices but have kept stock on my N6. I agree with testing it out myself, just need to find some time, but generally trust opinions on XDA.
Phone has been solid for years and rooted with Nova, adaway, lightflow, multiwindow, and tethering has met my needs. Maybe I'm just being lazy or in a rut but definitely would like something more revolutionary to encourage the upgrade.
Thanks for the input everyone, gives me a lot to think about.

Sadly I can't really help you with net.tethering as I don't use it...
Just make a search in Q/A or open a thread if nothing shows up. I'm sure you'll get an answer... :good:
Good luck...
Couple of days with stock 7.1.1 and so far it's fine, nothing that made me thrilled with the update but nothing that makes me want to roll back. Can't say it's snappier than MM or has better battery life, though. Enabled tethering using the usual net.tethering entry as well as 'settings put global tether_dun_required 0' so nothing lost there. Guess if this is the last, full-point update for my beloved N6 I can live with it (until I find an annoyance I can't stand and flash Pure or something else).
Thanks again for everyone's input!
Bought my N6 used back in September. I still have official 7.0 My device has never stuttered or slowed down (outside of extremely low battery and high CPU apps). I have a lot of apps installed, I use it hard, and run some demanding apps (like raw photo conversion) on occasion. And I just clocked 3+ days of battery use with nearly 7 hours of SOT under a variety of uses. I can't imagine not using N on this device.

Its all about standby battery life when using a bt device like an android watch. Not going to get into arguements here but have tested and 7.0 doesnt have the bad drain on my unit and 711 absolutely does. Thus cannot be an old battery if the only change i made was OS version and drastic difference in battery drain. 711 has about 2x+ the standby drain with bt on. 7.0 and 6.0 have much better drain
