Picked up a Note9 yesterday, and while I'm 99% sure I know the answer to this question (I found a single reference to this being possible on pocket-lint, but hours of Googling didn't turn up how to actually do it), I figured it was worth asking:
Is there a way to simply double-tap a notification on the lock screen and have it open the app, like on stock Android?
I love Samsung hardware, I always have. But the one thing that has bugged me with every Samsung phone I've had is that you tap a notification, and then have to unlock, even if the phone is unlocked already using Smart Lock. I seem to remember on my S8+ (this was over a year ago, so I could be wrong) with the original Good Lock app, it enabled a much more stock-lock lock screen experience, allowing for double-tapping of the notification. It also gave stock status icons, and the new Good Lock doesn't do that, so that could be another feature that was depreciated.

Hello
wanted to get everyone's opinion to whats the best lock app for our phones. i have tried several and i have problems with a lot of them.
i really like phone buddy, but i find it uses too much memory and power.
pocketshield is good too but i had problems with it. the phone wouldnt stay locked and i think i had a memory problem as well.
s2u2 is what i have used before and i do like it. but i had a problem with the volume on calls.
not sure if its something else im running.. im running the diamond2 g sensor and that may be it. or something else... not sure
help and suggesting would be great. i would like to find something i can use on my phone.
thanks

pocketshield. best i've found, no impact on battery life and answering the phone is great. download the latest (they've been updating it alot) and turn off the shake wake up (gestures), light wakeup, center button, and stylus (so the only thing is slide down). i haven't had it wake up unexpectedly with those settings.
i tried s2u2 along time ago, but have heard from multiple sources that it negatively influenced battery life. anyone know if this is still true?
i liked pocketshield a lot but like i said, i turned the phone off so it would lock, as soon as i turned the phone on it would unlock without me fliping it or anything else.
the answer thing is nice but i like the slide to answer i already have. if it didnt disable that when i used the pocketshield one i would use it.
like i said, im not sure if something else if causing my issues.... i think i may uninstall the dimond2 g sensor.
still cant find any lock app that will work well.... sensorlock and glocker dont work at all. and pocketshield works for a short time but stops. not sure if its cause you have to pay for it. i would pay for it if it worked for a while with no problems. dont wanna pay for it and have the same problems.
any ideas?
S2U2
try using S2U2 fully configurable and if done right does not use up battery.

I use S2U2. Doesn't affect my battery life
using S2U2 with tPro skin... nice

S2U2 is my favorite.
On a fast ROM (Like most of the ROM's on our forums), the program runs smoothly and nice.
I also like being able to pick pictures of my dog, or my bike, for the screens.
But my best practice for locking the phone is simply lock it out of habit when you put it away. Have "Slide to wake" disabled unless you really use it.
pocketshield for me, i had a few issues in the earlier releases but the newest is absolutely perfect, and pretty much everything is configurable to how i like it! seriously try the new one out and play in the settings to tweak it
Just use the new vertion of S2u2 together with the new skin

Works without problem. and looks good.

Maybe you have "light unlock" enabled and it is unlocking before you even notice it? (actually its the way it should be if you enable that feature)
has anyone tried throttle lock ? it has a slide to answer when you recieve calls while locked and it unlocks by drawing a pattern on a 3X3 grid of dots . Its a real nice app and has at least 35 different skins and is customizable. (customizing is rather arduous and takes awhile to do when it comes to making a new skin)
can anybody help me find Phone Buddy? i was trying to search it and i am not getting an conclusive results. The only thread that cmae up with anything is this thread....
S2U works just fine on my TP with stock rom, no negative battery impact noticable.
It seems all locking programs seem to have their own 'locked screen' that goes over the today screen. I have customized my today screen to have all the information i need at a glance and don't need another one.
I think Touchlock Pro is the only recent one that does not have this but I have other issues with it. Are there others I have missed?

I'm using AnswerkeysDisabler which locks the touch screen completely when a call comes in. Answering is only with the hardware keys. It's simple - no home screens, no swinging the phone around in circles to answer or anything Just plain works (as touch pro has those HW keys).
I found it from here somewhere - try it.
I use sensor lock. It's great! You can use phone gestures with the accelerometer to unlock your phone. For example, you can rotate your phone 360º to lock/unlock it.
Here is the app. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422871
Hey guys,
I noticed that when i just double tap my phone to check the time without unlocking, the screen stays on very long (I guess just as long as regular screen time out...). Is there a way to change it?
For me something like 5-10secs is more than enough. I don't need the lock screen to be on for a full minute.
If not, I hope Sony will enable such a feature in the next update.
Or can you guys suggest me a nice lockscreen replacement with this feature? I need widgets on lockscreen though (at least music). I tried one or two lockscreens earlier today but they didn't give me all the functionality I needed...
I totally agree, I was thinking about the same thing like yesterday!
I think that's the case on Samsung phones tho, but it's something very logical to me.

I wanted something more durable especially when it comes to water and since I was switching to AT&T the Active was an obvious choice. I've had the phone for a few days now and I'm really pleased with it, especially the camera and battery life. The first day I had almost 4 hours of screen on time which was close to full brightness and still had over 40% battery left. I thought that had to be a fluke or something but it's clearly not. Now to the point of my post, why is this phone not very popular? Why anyone would choose the regular S6 over the Active is beyond me. Does anyone think we'll ever see root on this phone? I'm very pleased with it out of the box but there's a few things I'd love root for. Like why does there have to be a persistent notification telling me I'm connected to wifi. That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I couldn't believe it couldn't be turned off.
Edit:
Gotta change that sig as its all wrong now, lol.

What are some of your cons for the device?
I've heard various things about it, such as there's some faint line down the side of the screen on most all models.
Some people claim that the speak on speaker call sucks.
etc etc. Anything you don't really like about the phone that could be most people's gripe about it?
Mine works great. Nothing to complain about...

First, fingerprint sensor. I need security but entering pin/code every time I wanted to unlock the phone was cumbersome.
Second, is availability at the time of purchase. It wasn't apparently available with carriers in Canada.
Third, popularity, and community development and support. Galaxy s6 has more users, and therefore, more developers working on its rom.
Fourth, availability of accessories due to Galaxy S6 owner population vs Active.
I can overlook all other points, but missing the fingerprint sensor was a deal breaker for me.
For me, the lack of a fingerprint scanner isn't a deal-breaker. I guess I'm 'old school' or something. Though I understand the convenience of it.
I'm on the edge of picking up this phone, but, kind of worried about what type of specs the S7 Active will have and will it be worth the wait.
Currently with the S6 Active, my concerns are:
No Root (not a deal breaker)
Slowness of AT&T updates (not a deal breaker if ODIN is reliable and we can get timely firmware updates outside of AT&T)
Length of time it's taking to get to Marshmellow
Quality of speaker and using the speaker phone (I've heard that it's not too hot)
Lack of accessories (agree with you on this, doesn't seem a lot out there)
What I don't like about S6 Active:
Placement of the audio jack port. Really should be on the bottom, like the S6
No expandable memory option
No removable battery option (Not really a deal breaker if the battery has no issues and will remain effective for at least 3-4 years.)
Not enough bands to support international carriers and carrier aggregation support to the fullest by having as many bands possible (Not really a deal breaker, as I'll get a few where I am).
Touch-Wiz. Rather to to some stock android OS rather than have all the crap on the phone. (relates to having a root)
But beyond all of the above, the phone looks really really nice and I'll likely pick it up anyways, for lack of anything better, IMO.
I was thinking Nexus 6P, but it's just too big for me.
Nexus 5X, just kinda of too weak for me. (has less bands than Nexus 6P, actually)
I was thinking just a regular S6, but like the Active design better.
Just bought one,for durability, came from the V10 and loving it so far.
Succumbed
Well, I picked up this phone(64GB Version). Got it to update to 5.1.1.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this phone is simply beautiful.
The weighting and feel is also very very nice.
It's a quite zippy and fast phone.
So far, on the whole I'm liking this phone alot.
However some points I've come across. Any suggestions or resolutions welcome.
Minor Dislikes:
Forced to see carrier's name on top-left of lock screen (Not just specific to this phone)
└ I'd prefer to see useful icons on the status bar(left-hand side) during the phone being locked.
Notifications Management
└ In order to remove Heads UP notifications, I've had to download an application like: HeadsOff└ Some applications, in order to see the icon in the status bar, the rectangular static notification remains on the lock screen, wasting screen real-estate. There's no way to remove this static notification from the lock screen without adjusting the settings to remove notifications from the app, and then that removes the icon in the status bar.└ Some applications like Accu Radio won't show the player controls on the lock screen. No matter what combination of notification settings are used. (Not really the phone's fault but..)
Fingerprint Scanner Lacking
└ While the Active doesn't have a fingerprint button to scan fingerprint to unlock the phone, I thought Samsung had some models that used the actual screen to do this. If so, the option would be nice to have on the Active
Headphone Jack Location (Not just specific to this phone)
└ I still don't see why phone makers are putting the jack at the top of the phone. Many people put their phone in their pocket. The natural insertion direction is the way one is holding it at the time of use, the top goes into the pocket first. Yet if the audio cable/jack is jutting out from the top, it makes it hard to put in the pocket, as well as decreases the life of the cable, etc. (not a deal-breaker, but an annoyance for sure)
Touchscreen SUPER sensitive
└ I've found that the screen is simply overly sensitive to touch and find myself many times mistakenly activating something else, before my finger even touches the screen.└ Currently I do not have a screen protector for the phone, so not sure this will matter.
Other's Pain points:
Speaker Location/Quality
└ While the speaker isn't in the best of locations, I haven't really noticed and sound degradation/quality. It's a mini speaker. We can't expect blasting Dolby 7.1 haha
Active Key easy to press accidently
└ I have not found any problem with this, and I typically don't encounter having this button activated unintentionally with my day to day use.└ Some applications like Accu Radio won't show the player controls on the lock screen. No matter what combination of notification settings are used. (Not really the phone's fault but..)

Add another dislike:
Samsung Touchwiz and how it handles, doesn't allow handling of LED definition.
Unfortunately, Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, have blown up their Touchwiz and made it virtually impossible for applications like Lightflow, to define custom LED colors for applications.
The best that can happen is that some 'workaround' by the author of Lightflow can be used, but that just leaves the Badges and Notifications icons on the status bar for you to clear out manually, after reading your email or messages.
Price to pay to have any control over LED.....
Just one more reason I want root....
Hi there,
I've found this easy tweak to enable double tap to wake on Huawei/Honor devices.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/enable-double-tap-to-wake-t3312676
I loved this feature on my old G4, as it was not needed to pick up the phone from a desk, etc. Unfortunately, it seems Huawei does not give a f...k and adds and removes it randomly from its products lineup depending on the weather I guess.
The above instructions are really simple on a ROOTED device. Would any candid soul that already has a rooted mate 10, try to see if the feature is at least available in the system file? (super simple to do with a root explorer). My phone is not rooted, as I'd not like to void the warranty in case I return it since I'm not fully happy so far with this and other Huawei SW neglicencies.
Cheers.

You mean, the option shows up in the accessibility menu, but not possible to activate right?. Shame on Huawei.
WHICH FIRMWARE ARE YOU ON?. I'm on 142 on a EU hardware.
BTW, any other reliable 3rd party up or alternative to wake up the phone without picking it up or using the power button?

I'm on B145.
They include a lot of "features" for other Huawei phones, as they seem to use the same sources when they build. Many are non-functioning though.
Face unlock with pick-up to turn on screen works fine. Or just fp reader on the back
But it still requires lifting the phone or putting your finger on the back.

Right. What a waste of such a great HW with such a poor software, lack of basic premium (?) features on a high end device.
Thanks anyway mate!

Am sure you are aware kernel must support double tap to wake in order for this switch to work, if u guys have a kernel that supports this... It will work else no way on earth that's happening
BTW, tried a few of those 3rd party apps where I managed to wake the phone up via the IR sensor from the AOD screen. But, this only works for a minute or so, if the AOD is on for longer, IR cannot wake it up.
Looks as if the app is put in a deep state or the sensor not accessible by it once the phone enters a deeper stand by (?).
All power saving crap option disabled. Wrote the developer but no response.
You guys, since you rooted it, would you know if the issue is still present when you freeze power genius via Titanium perhaps?
I have had my Pixel 4XL since Jan. It's been mainly fine and it was an upgrade from a Moto Z2 with a similar OLED screen. So am used to being able to just stare at phone without unlocking it and seeing the time/notifications etc. without having to unlock it first. But in the past week the behvaiour has changed. Now occasionally when I pick up the phone it's completely dark and the only way I can bring up the display is to actually unlock with the power button. I am sure it wasn't like that but I can't pin down this new annoying behaviour with anything that might have changed (no settings changes that I am aware of or any firmeware updates). Not Soli is not active on this phone since I am in an unsupported country for Soli.
Anybody have any ideas or have seen this occur? Thanks
