I thought I figured out differences between N960U1 unbranded and N960U - carrier specific firmware.
But the page
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-N960U1
has
SM-N960U1 XAA
SM-N960U1 VZW
etc
why there are different regions for N960U1 ?
What will happen if I load SM-N960U1 VZW to my current SM-N960U1 XAA ?
Found the answer on Note8 forum:
"The carrier versions of the Unlocked (SM-N950U1) only differ by including the product activation information that the SIM provides during provisioning. Flashing the XAA unlocked firmware and inserting SIM is the same as flashing any of the SM-N950U1 brand labeled firmware like VZW"

Hey guys,
I bought the 256GB factory unlocked emperor edition Note 8 from South Korea, but it is still tied to all of SK Telecom's (SKC region code) services, I want to switch it to my local Canadian carrier's CSC, Fido (FMC), without rooting. How do I go about accomplishing this?
Thanks in advance.
Can't. It only has the 3 main South Korean carriers CSC loaded, SK Telecom, kt Olleh, and LG U+. You can use the stock CSC app to switch between those 3 but it will wipe the phone when you switch that way.
Because the CSCs are on the /system partition there is no way to change them to have different/extra providers than what are possible on a given device without root. Since the N950N is only in South Korea, there are no stock Odin-flashable firmwares for it other than South Korean firmware from each of those providers. N950F is released in many countries around the world, so they have more options since Odin will let them flash any N950F firmware from any provider/country since the model is exactly the same, but there are no other options for N variants.

Thanks for the clarification. I just checked Updato for the list of providers the SM-N950F supports, and it appears there's still no Canadian CSC variant out of the 500+ available:
http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?exact=1&q=SM-N950F
So, rooting seems to be the only option for getting a 256GB Eyxnos Note 8 to work with Carriers here in Canada, oh well....
Is there a 256GB variant of the SM-N950F? Or is this SM-N950FD variant also compatible with all them SM-N950F CSCs?

Yeah there won't be a Canadian CSC for an F variant because the Canadian variant is W I believe.
I have not seen a 256gb F/FD variant, but as far as i understand they are the same model as far as Odin is concerned. I have seen posts of a Hong Kong model that is 256gb but I think it is a 9500 which is Snapdragon, and the only other 256gb model is my N950N Korean variant (which is Exynos, and happens to be identical hardware to the F variant which is handy for ROM use).
How can I root and change my N950N CSC to the Chinese version which is CHC.
Hello all!
I've been doing some good reading but am having some issues... I some how managed to buy a UAE dual sim "internationally unlocked" Note 9 SM-N960F (exynos variant) from the US Amazon. I put the internationally unlocked in quotes as it doesn't appear to be international. My samsung default app are all tied to UAE because of the firmware CSC. I was wondering if there was a guide that would be able to direct me to flashing from UAE to USA unlocked. I looked into SamFirm then also downloaded Odin but I can't seem to get SamFirm to locate and download the USA firmware I need with what I thought was the correct CSC for USA Unlocked.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated thank you!

If it's a dual SIM Exynos, then it IS an international model. You can't just flash the US firmware on it. The US firmware is all for the N960U, and you have a N960F. Won't work.
If you're willing to root and trip Knox, there's some guides on how to make the N960F work in the US, depending on your carrier.
Is there a new firmware for the unlocked firmware on the S10 available? I see carriers are getting it but not for the U1.

If it's the unlocked model, then it will be last after the carriers, that's what Samsung does.
Its originally an at&t firmware. Too much bloat, so I flashed to the U1. Better experience imo.
your not alone...many are waiting in the xda lounge! Cheers
SOLVED!
Samsung Official Unlocked Firmware:
Canada = XAC
United States = XAA
---------------------------------
I'm looking for anyone who knows a little more about the firmware's for Samsung phones. Or anyone who has ordered the S21 Ultra from Samsung and lives in Canada.
I just got mine today through Bell, and because it's a carrier phone, it has a bunch of Bell bloatware on it that can't be deleted.
I know that the U1 model phones are the unlocked from Samsung, but as far as I could find, those are all to US residence, do they also ship U1 phones directly to Canada and we have our own carrier tag on SamFW.com?
I'm using the T-Mobile U1 firmware on my S20 Ultra and everything works fine, but we also don't have 5G yet, and with this phone, Bell is giving out the new 5G SIM cards so 5G is coming, and I just want to be sure all 5G bands are going to work. I looked it over and it seems that all T-Mobile bands are the same as everyone in Canada (for any US people out there trying to help, all Canadian Carriers use the same bands) so T-Mobile has a pretty good match for us up here.
However, before I flash the T-mobile SM-G998U1 firmware onto my G988W to remove all of the Bell bloat, does anyone know if there is a Canadian specific or direct from Samsung firmware for the unlocked devices directly from Samsung sold to Canada?
On SamFW.com, for the Canadian SM-G988W, it shows as follows
BMC -Bell
BWA - ?
CHR - Chatr
GLW - Freedom Mobile (@Devhux)
KDO - Koodo
PMB - Public Mobile (@Devhux)
RWC - Rogers
SOL - Possibly Shaw? (@Devhux)
TLS - Telus
VMC - Virgin
XAC - Samsung Official Unlocked (@Devhux)
I couldn't figure out what any of the unknown carrier tags are, and are any of those for the direct from Samsung firmware? (no carrier bloat)
The same goes for the US SM-G998U1 firmwares as follows
ACG -
AIO - Cricket (@iBowToAndroid)
ATT - AT&T
CCT - Xfinity Mobile/Comcast (@iBowToAndroid)
CHA - Chat Mobility
FKR - ?
LRA - ?
TFN - ?
TMB - T-Mobile
TMK - Metro PCS (@iBowToAndroid)
USC - U.S. Cellular
VZN - Verizon
XAA - Samsung Official Unlocked (@iBowToAndroid)
XAR - ?
XAS - ?
Are any of those the direct from Samsung unlocked firmware tags?
If you don't know which is Samsung official unlcoked, but do know what any of those tags are, feel free to post below and I'll update the list so we can get more info on what all of these are.
Thanks
GLW - Freedom Mobile (formerly owned by GlobalLive Wireless)
PMB - Public Mobile
RWC - Rogers
SOL - Shaw? (Guessing)
XAC - ?
Not sure if this helps but here's my Software Information screen from my S21 Ultra purchased from Samsung Canada.
Hey you figured it out, deadly! It says at the bottom under carrier info XAC.
So XAC is the official samsung unlocked firmware.

I missed that! As for the SJR tags, I almost wonder if that's related to Shaw (like how it downloaded the Shaw network settings). SJR = J.R. Shaw (founder of the company)? That would be an interesting tidbit if so.
Need some advice. I have an unlocked S21 Ultra coming from Samsung USA. Should I flash the with XAC or just use it with XAA which is what it should come with?
If it matters I am on Koodo.
Also, I am new to firmware flashing. If I need to flash XAC do I set up the phone with or without a sim card right out of the box and then flash it.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Not sure if there are any other advantages to flash unlocked firmware outside of removing carrier bloatware. Are there others?
Hi,
I have a Galaxy Note 9 SM-N960F with region code: XEU,XEU/XSG,XSG.
This device is originally registered in the UAE, sold to me on Amazon but doesn't get firmware updates in the UK.
Can I flash this device with the BTU firmware for the UK and be safe?
Yes you can. Different region firmwares only change the SIM based settings and not the android in itself. There can be customizations done by the operators, use country regions firmwares instead of operator ones to prevent this.
BTU is for UK region, free of operators, so it's ok and can be used almost throughout the globe.
