Cell tower information sometimes "Unknown" - Issues with Cell Near automation
Hi,
I have both tasker and automagic app profiles which are triggered based on cell tower informations. I discovered that altough my phone shows clear full reception signal and i can make calls, have data connection etc when i look via tasker or any other app that collects cell tower id's it gives a result of unknown. After a while this changes and the phone can again pick up actuall cell tower id's but it often switches back to unknown.
My issue with this is that this basically kills most of my location based automations on the phone and is driving me nuts.
Anyone else have similar issues with their HTC One and if yes know maybe a way to fix it?
Thanks
I may have found the problem (and the workaround). Since the HTC One is an LTE phone and my previous one (HTC One S where everything worked fine) wasen't i tried to change the Network mode from GSM / WCDMA / LTE auto to GSM / WCDMA auto only. Once i have done that the phone immediately was able to identify the cell tower network id. Of course this could be purely coincidental so only time will tell if this actually permanently fixes my issue but so far it seems to work.
I've seen a number of threads where people post about their device dropping network data connectivity, and needing a reboot to solve it.
My issue is a bit different. Occasionally (I've noticed it 3-4 times today) when I go to send a text (SMS) or to use a data enabled service like Hangouts, that my phone shows no bars at all.. not even just no data, but the bars are grey and there's a red x. I wait about 15 seconds and it reconnects, then another 10 seconds later, the data is live again.
Phone is a private sale and under 1 month old, and all the Stamina functions are off.. I do see that the "Queue background Data" is turned on, but I don't think this should effect, no?
Not sure what digits I should be looking at to know if this might be a hardware vs software issue.. build is listed as .93
Im no stranger to unlocking and flashing, but I've kept this stock cuz it's tight and I adore the battery life.
Suggestions?

check in settings in network and set your network to the one you use , like gm/wcdma /lte , maybe your phone is strugling to find 3g or 4g , try it , who knows it might solve the issue , ty
Been about a month since I posted, and I'm still experiencing this issue. I often thumb my phone on and it's not connected. I don't really mind waiting for the 30 seconds or so that it takes to jump back on the network, but it often means I miss calls, and since it's my business phone, it kinda bums me out to suddenly get a VM notification of a missed call even though it never rang.
Is there some sort of utility that I can use to monitor the network activity to see how frequently it drops, and for how long? I've looked into ones on Play but they don't seem to have a history, just something that shows what data up and down is currently being reported.
Sadly the only Sony store in my city (and I think the country - Canada) has recently closed for good, so I'm not sure how to go about warranty repairs...

I don't have a solution, but I can tell you that you're not alone. I've been experienced the same thing on my Z3C. I sometimes wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the MVNO I use doesn't support 4G LTE.

Interesting.. Your issue isn't just data, but a complete network disconnection? Im with Fido which is an MVNO under Rogers, but I thought they supported LTE. The issue also persists even on wifi

Yes, it seems to be a complete loss of the mobile connection. When I wake the phone I see gray bars and a red X on the signal strength indicator. Within seconds the phone re-acquires and the indicator goes to 2 or 3 bars. I have also seen it happen with wifi active. The frustrating part is that it doesn't seem to do it often enough to troubleshoot. I'll notice the problem maybe a couple of times a month and there's nothing obviously different about my usage patterns in those instances.
Mine does it at least a dozen times a day. I can only assume this as I frequently miss calls and at least 3-4 times a day I see it happen. =(
Same Problem
Randomly I have no connection at all but after a few seconds everything wents back to normal. Did not have this problem with T-mobile in Germany but with with O2 I have. With T-mobile I had LTE but with O2 I don't, so I guess that's the reason.
Interesting... I've disabled LTE and now have it on 3g/GSM. We'll see how it works moving forward, and I'll post again in a week. Stay tuned.
Service Providers
In the mobile network settings one can change the service provider manually. With LTE enabled my provider has three entries: LTE, 3G and 2G. Connecting two LTE fails, because my provider blocked it in my plan. Having LTE enabled, it often tries to connect to LTE I assume. I switched off LTE and set the provider manually to 3G. Maybe that helps. We'll see.

Interesting.. I have LTE as part of my network and plan... But once I made changes to the settings as I indicated, I no longer receive the network drops I originally experienced.. I might just be missing the alerts, but it seems fixed... #crossedfingers
So I'm using this phone with Freedompop's global SIM card as a handy data connection device. I've been using this sim with other phones without a problem, however I have a strange behavior on the Blu R1. Apparently, since the card is always considered "roaming" here in the US, the R1 just shows me a "R" next to my signal bars. However, I am unable to see if I have a network connection, or at what level (3G, H+, etc). I set the network preferences to always connect when roaming, but I hate being in the dark with my connection.
I can pull up a browser and see if it works or not, or open up the Network app or something to see the nitty-gritty status, but its very frustrating to not know how or even IF I'm connected when I'm expecting a message or response. For example, if I'm on H+ I'll accept a video call, but if I'm on 3G I know it'll just end in frustration. Is there any fix/tweak or anything to get around this? Perhaps disable the roaming notification?
I'm not having quite the same problem with FreedomPop. I see the perpetual R for roaming, but I do get bars for network signal strength. (You do have the FreedomPop Sim in slot #1, right? It won't work in Slot #2.)
FreedomPop will ALWAYS show as roaming here in the US. It is part of their instructions actually. But you will not be charged extra for it. I have had the free 200mb, 500 text, 200 minute plan on my sons R1 HD for a few months now and no bills.
If you have Xposed installed, you could use the Roaming Control module to trick your phone into thinking that AT&T and T-mobile aren't roaming networks; it's what I did until I switched to the FreedomPop LTE GSM sims.
Otherwise, I used to use Network Cell Info Lite, where I enabled the notification and set the update rate to 4 seconds--HSPA+ will show up as "3.5G" in the notification icon. It has proper support for dual-sim phones. You could also try Nify, which does show what kind of network connection you're on, but I have no idea if it works with dual-sim phones properly (e.g. will it only show SIM1 all the time, even if you use SIM2 as your primary sim?)
What do others think of the Wi-Fi calling service on the device. I find it absolutely appalling with 98% of calls failing, breaking up or poor quality.
Anyone else experience the same issues

Nope. Works perfectly for me
Which network u with and which ISP?
I'm on Three UK with Sky as ISP
I've been told by Three UK that if got minimum signal then WiFi calling won't work properly and device will keep switching between mobile network and WiFi.
They also said to switch to airplane mode then re-enable WiFi and Bluetooth.
They also wanted me to try different WiFi network which I can't do.
Sent from my Huawei P20 Pro using XDA Labs
Works brilliantly for me on EE and Virgin, much better than the S7 Edge I came from.
I don't have a setting for wifi calling, even though I did with the same network on my iPhone. Any ideas?
Have a Pixel 7 with Stock ROM. I have massive connection problems. There is a Telekom SIM inside and an O2 E-SIM, it constantly happens that my phone has no network connection, no matter what network, that the Internet offline, etc.
Especially when switching WLAN to the 5G network.
Does anyone know these problems and have maybe a solution?

There seems to be an ongoing problem with T-mobile and MVNOs. I don't know much about it except that 5G and Pixels are involved. Until the problem gets sorted out a temporary fix may be to set 'Preferred network type' to LTE/4G for one or both SIMs. Also try disabling 'Mobile data always active' in Developer options.
