So no news about Android 8 to note 8?
Google will moe to 8.1 to pixels and in March they'll have beta to p, that's always the same problem with Samsung phones
Oreo beta will be out soon. First week next month or even this month. And the reason why it takes so much time for Samsung is because they have A LOT more software modifications and features that AOSP phones don't have. Recently I saw news that some AOSP Lenovo phone will get Oreo but next year! 2018Q2. So Samsung is pretty quick if You think about it. And Google released Oreo source just like 1.5 month ago. And in 1.5 month after source release we get beta. So it's extremely quick.

Not excited about 8.0 oreo but wants to know what Samsung will add to it... Something excited... Maybe
Have Oreo on our Nexus 6P. I don't see any difference between it and my Note 8, but I haven't gone looking for anything either. I just set the 6P up from a full factory reset for my wife. She wants to give it a try before possibly getting a Pixel 2. Seemed like the same experience as I'm used to to set it up.
What I found when I used the 6P was that being on the bleeding edge of major updates was not always a good thing. They were usually somewhat buggy, normally showing up as apps that became battery drainers under the new level, until their developers fixed them. It got to the point where I would not take a release until it had been out for a few months. Google uses the first adopters as Beta testers, IMO.
If an Oreo beta does come. Is it possible for me to sign up for the beta program so I can use it? I was in blackberry's android beta and bb10 beta program for so long.
Yeah I would like to know how to sign up for the beta program
TBH, not too bothered about Oreo since I don't think it'll add much to the already awesome Note 8 feature set.
My beef is with the slow rollout of security updates, waiting 2 months or more is IMHO a dereliction of duty on Samsung's part.
I remember the nougat beta on the S7 for the Samsung. Wondering if there will be something similar for the N8.

The 8.1 update will be sick, it'll unlock our NPUs for other apps, give us more scene detections for our cameras, the option to turn off the AI, reportedly the "long exposure shots without a tripod" feature, and many more. Huawei said android 8.1 is "officially compatible with the Mate 10" (4 months ago), which makes me wonder, are we ever getting the update? The phone has been released for quite a while now, and we never got any updates AFAIK. Do you think we will? If you do, why do you say so?
I don't have the answer but yes it could be nice to have an update for it but when ??
IMO wouldn't it be better if we jumped to Android 9? Dev preview is on Chinese mate10 AFAIK. I had a P8, that went from 5.0 to 6. There was a very brief 5.1 with a few fixes. The time they spent on that would have been far better used polishing the 6.0 release.

If I had to choose I'd pick android P, it's really sick, I'm asking for 8.1 because that's the very least you could ask for, don't set the bar too high because Huawei failed to deliver many times before.
The update is rolling out in China right now, but we will have it a month or two later, maybe...
Huawei promised on stage that the mate 10 (and pro) would be getting Android 8.1 early this year with support for the Android NNAPI that would give developers access to the NPU.
Fast forward, it's almost summer and nothing yet.
When I read the news that the night camera mode would be arriving soon for the Mate 10, I had a little hope that this update would be bundled with the 8.1 update, but it seems that for other regions on FF the night camera update is already showing and no sign of the 8.1.... it's just a June patch with the night camera add-on.
I'm also not holding my breath for a fast Android P release, maybe end this year, beginning of the next year? Anyways after the next Mate launch for sure.
It looks like huawei will have to move to other os, or stop selling their devices in the US, sooner than they expected. Let's hope that this doesn't happen.
Hoping for 8.1 soon and for sure also for Android P in my dream lol
What you mean "dreaming Android P". The device is not a year old and they will for sure drop Android P for Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. The problem is EMUI.
I will mever buy again a Huawei device, bootloader lock 4 ever and lame updates.

Haha, sorry.
There is a new firmware in FF 145 it has nightshot but the firmware is not approved yet so we gotta wait till it gets approved to install I guess. I am a BLA-L09 C432 user from UK. Just in case any one wanted to know or if it even mattered.

I think if they made stock google look or used android one on their device. These phones will sell like hotcakes, also they include all their features that be great. But that's just a dream for now. -_-
145 just arrived on ff with night mode. Unavailable for me yet
136 update with nightmode available on FF but not approved for my firmware, will wait till it is. Sadly, it's still android 8.0. Should I lose more hope because of that?
Pays to read. The 8.1 update does not start until the end of the month, another 2 weeks.
Already using 145. June patch. Night shot better, but not that thing. Anyway, satisfied with this update.

Its official. Android P is coming to Oneplus 3/3T
My god !
Please keep all news/discussion related to OxygenOS 6.0 in this thread only. Any new thread opened regarding ETA/etc will be closed.
Well congo to all Oneplus 3 and 3T users...U all will get Android P update ...Oneplus is saying that They will skip the android 8.1.0 .But will try to Enhance the user Experience.
Awesome news, but I'll keep my doubts unless they actually push it in the betas.
I had been waiting for 8.1 from ages now, and there's no timeline for P, maybe it'll lauch by the end of the year, maybe the end of next year?
The Android P update will be available on the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5/T and OnePlus 3/3T, in this order.

Well i am sure they are more serious about their promises and update schedule now but it still didn't make sense that they had all the time to optimize and release 8.1 for OP5/5T but when it came to OP3/3T they want to utilize resources on P instead. Sounds like we will be stuck on 8.0 for atleast next 5-6 months as they have made it clear they won't release any 8.1 for OP3/3T.

Some of us like the stability and some other factors in OOS and won't switch to custom OS (no matter how much they claim to be bug-free or stable experience but there is always something broken), unless OOS is declared EOL by OnePlus.
I am mostly lurking here for custom kernels as the custom kernels offered here are much more battery friendly and smoother compared to stock one WITHOUT breaking any functionality.
That's the kind of place XDA is, no matter how small custom Android mod/solution you are looking for your device, you will always find something relevant to your taste and usability.

Same here! It's exciting but i am just concerned about the wait and possible timeline before that happens. P isn't even released yet, and once it's released the OP3/3T is the last device to receive it from OnePlus. So i am assuming we might not see a P update for 5-6 months. So, i was wondering if they could have worked on 8.1 for 3/3T when they were working with the code for 5/5T.
But at least now we all know we will eventually receive P and we are not abandoned. Kudos to OnePlus to support OP3 with 3 major Android version updated 6>7>8>9.
this is how all manufacturers must support the development of phones
Hope they'll include Treble support as well
All credit to One Plus if they deliver.
A friend of mine bought a Samsung S7 Edge at the same time I bought my OP3. He was smiling initially due to the better screen and camera etc. As time has past, he's only just got Oreo and is suffering from slowing down and awful battery life. My OP3 feels as fast as on day 1 and has only slight battery degradation.
With every day, my smile gets wider. :victory:
This is exactly what I want from a phone when I buy one, long term OS support. Well done Oneplus, my next phone will be also Oneplus.
This is exactly why I made the OP6 purchase. OnePlus has been very good to it's fan base. I know they fell short on a few promises prior to the OP3 however they are most certainly making up for it. I purchased my OP6 in good faith because my OP3 had ***55 UPDATES*** (including betas) and now Android P is coming. I know my 4 year old isn't going to care about the update and isn't going to like daddy taking her phone, wiping it and playing on it for a few days.... But I seriously cannot wait for the OP6 to get Android P and I'm going to be just as excited when it drops for the OP3.
I'm not bragging that I have a OP6, I just want to share my excitement with everyone about Android P on the OP3. I know not everyone has the luxury of buying a new device and I'm happy for everyone who gets to share the Android P experience. I have had a ton of different devices in the past, most with little to no updates including Samsung (no crapple). Hopefully OnePlus will force other manufacturers to follow suit so even those who aren't fans of OnePlus devices can get a better update experience.
Should we expect Android 9 to come to the Note9 faster than previous updates on notes due to project Treble? Is that thing actually doing anything? The Note8 took FOREVER to get Oreo. Was that a Project Treble phone too? If so, I guess I should anticipate waiting until like February/March again, which is a shame for a flagship phone like this. I'd be pleased if it was out before 2019 begins. That's more than enough time I think.

Exactly, 8.1 has been out six months or so and I thought treble would make those smaller updates more timely.
Dont expect update on this for a while. One of the reason why im holding on this phone. Samsung extradegy is always release their new flaship with the updated OS while leaving other phone behind. We wont see android pie on the note 9 until after the GS10 release in march (or so) with pie include has the new OS. Samsung will just release security patches every 2 or 3 month until this.

Somewhere in that neighborhood, yeah. It would be cool if the same happened on the Note9!
treble might provides updates a bit faster but I have had the galaxy s3, s5, s7e,s8 and now note 9 and updates were always very late and I think it would always be like that. maybe faster with treble but won't ever get updates as fast as others and we are going to wait months but I am sure no one has bought the note 9 or samsung phones for the fast updates ^^
After all the hulalbaloos and deep dives, lately I've been pronouncing it as "project trouble" for Galaxy flagships.
Working Pie GSI Rom for S9+
Since the hardware is exactly the same, will it work with Note 9?

i have stopped myself from getting samsung since years ago due to the poor software updates. And i do not expect note 9 to be faster than any predecessors. i would still be alright if note 9 will never get Android Pie till 2020 (or neveR). Thats samsung and people should have expected that. Reasons i got myself the device was due to the 5 pillars of smartphone which Note9 did well, go watch the video by mkbhd.
This is really good news! Already, there is a Pie version of S9+ with Samsung Experience 10! It may be in its infant stages, but as the article mentions, that's at least a couple months faster than the last cycle (to Oreo), and this seems like a larger update.

I'm pretty sure that last year the registration for the S8 Beta program began the first week of November and the first official beta release was just after that (I think around the 5 November or something like that).
Here, we have just a leaked firmware, around 1 month earlier than last week official beta. So don't get too excited.
Edit : I did a quick search and I find that the second beta firmware was released on the 10th of November last year.
https://www.google.fr/amp/s/www.sam...-android-8-0-oreo-beta-firmware-released/amp/
So, I really doubt things will be quicker this year.
Well if the Pie update is indeed released in January, then that would be a pretty big improvement in my world (especially with how much more significant of an update this is)! Project Treble for the win?
I looked at the features, and they were very promising. It even includes a dark mode!

Well, the phone's been out only a year so it should get it. Always worrying when you see the manufacturer promising updates for other devices but not yours. Why do they do that? I sold my Moto 5gs because of the lack of updates, so won't be buying them again. Ditto Samsung. Maybe i'll just get Pixel phones in future. I expect more than 12 months support (plus I read that Huawei/Honor were switching to quarterly security updates - we'll see). The Honor Play was very good value for money, and it would be hard to justify devices without SD card slots but I'm really not in the "get a new phone every year or two" game. My chromebook has an EOL date in about 5 years time; why shouldn't my phone, too?
Looking forward to the dark mode, although puzzled that it requires OS support.
With Project Treble and Mainline you'd think that Google are almost at the point where they can roll out OS updates behind the manufacturers backs.
Interestingly, looking at the Android dashboard, which historically has shown Android OS usage, you can see it's been down since May:
https://developer.android.com/about/dashboards
I wonder if this is going to come back in October when they announce the Pixel 4, and they're going to blow everyone away by saying Android 9 adoption has beaten all the other versions?

Probably, the biggest downside of honor and huawei phones is the lack of bootloader unlock codes, which leads to not much developer support. So I'm just always kinda looking out for updates
There is no official confirmation for Honor Play, unlike the Honor 8x or Honor 10 etc. Even if we do get the update, it isn't going to come anytime soon. Check this out: https://www.xda-developers.com/emui-10-android-10-update-timeline-huawei-honor/
The phone is still a massive value for its current price in terms of raw performance. I'm pretty content with it. Despite the quirks of EMUI, I've grown quite attached to it and will prefer it over almost all other android skins except probably full stock android...
Possibly, we might get Android 10 on Honor Play second quarter of next year.
I don't know how much we can trust this picture
But it's highly possible that we can forget about emui 10 for next 4-6 month for sure because emui 9.1 has been rolled out just yet
It is becoming obvious it will take time before Honor Play will receive EMUI 10 (if at all it will receive the update). It is not even on the list of Honor smartphones that will get Android 10 in the future. I am surprised to see Honor 8X included but not Honor Play.

Honor 8x got sales numbers. Honor play didn't
Honestly this is bull****. Why the **** people buy a ugly ass honor 8x with kirin 710 when they can buy a honor play at the same price
It is not getting. Honor service in twitter confirmed that Honor play is going to get next major android 10 updates due to "hardware limitations".
This is particularly strange because Honor play has Kirin 970, the flagship processor of Huawei of 2017-18. It is the same processor of the p20, which is scheduled for the update.
As Honor won't be sending it. Thus I am planing for unlocking bootloader in any way as soon as they push emui 10 update lol

But samsung have changed and now apparently promise 4 years of upgrades. The android one site is out of date and doesn't include the new £99, £129 etc phones nokia have announced which will get 2 years support. Seems funny typing it - like we should feel grateful to get support. It should be 5 years. But yes, huawei/honor aren't getting any more of my money. If you knew the honor play was going to get 1 os upgrade around 14 months after launch and that's it, would you have bought the phone. I wouldn't. Fool me once...
