I didn't see this posted anywhere, but I use my SPen to take pictures quite a bit. Especially selfies with family and my child.
However I found an incredibly annoying issue. Delay between the button click and the actual camera taking the picture.
I found a very simple solution, which some of you may not like, but I for one have very little need for SPen to start video capture. So just by setting the "double click" function to none, lag is gone. Now the S-Pen take pictures instantly instead of "waiting" to see if the 2nd press happens.
Alternative method if you really need 2 functions, is setting the "double click" to Take picture
Hope this helps those who are annoyed as i was on the Delay.
to get to the settings, take the spen out and get to the popup menu, top left gear, and S-Pen Remote

Uhm...i dont have the arrows at the bottom of my map to easily cycle through the multiple search results. Was it taken out? Do i need to enable it (can see options/layers/labs)?
I am missing this as well. As a slightly less useful alternative, you can swipe left or right on the "detail" screen after clicking into one of search results to rotate through the results.
I was just looking for this too. Did they take it out? It's not there anymore when you do a search. How else are you supposed to scroll thru results? Seems like a very stupid thing to remove.

Cool. Thanks for the tip. Sucks that they took our the arrows...would rather have had them remove the zoom buttons!
Hello.. I just wonder if anyone else is having this problem. Supposedly you selected 'Settings' with your S-pen and started scrolling up and down the menu "Wireless and Network, Call, Sound, Display.... At some point, even if u were scrolling, the S-pen will mistakenly select one of the menus. This is quite irritating. In other words, whenever I perform a scrolling motion with my S-pen, the phone will think that I have selected one of the choices the moment my pen touches the screen. (very irritating, because i am not pinpointing a spot with the S-pen, but I was scrolling/making vertical motion with my S-pen).
Does anyone have this problem? I have also noticed the only way to prevent accidental selection while scrolling menus is by making a scrolling motion with the S-pen very quickly. This way, none of the menu will get highlighted. Anyone can help?
I would like to add a few observations to my original post above too. Besides the problems with the menus, I noticed the problems with Adobe Reader+S pen. With adobe Reader, pressing on a point with S-pen brings up Adobe reader menu. Tapping twice with S-pen will result in zooming in.
However, this is the problem. I could scroll with my S-pen in adobe reader (just like using finger). But after scrolling some pages with S-pen, the page will start zooming in!! A few scrolls with the S-pen up the pages, will cause it to zoom out. That means instead of the scrolling motion with the S-pen, my phone thought that i had tapped twice...and hence the "zooming in" in Adobe Reader.
anyone with similar problem?
After finding out the cause, I now can fully understand every symptom described above. The unwanted zooming in adobe reader, the unwanted selection while scrolling with s pen. the explanation can be found with the attached image.
Basically I decided to open S memo and started to make scrolling motions with my S pen, just as I normally would with a scrollable menu. And here is what I found. With a total of about 20 strokes, about 2 strokes were broken. Each of these broken strokes has a missing portion. The missing portion begins shortly after the initial length of the registered stroke. The attached picture shows 2 broken strokes. Each broken stroke has a "small dot". The small dot is part of a stroke.
For simpler explanation, I would use the head, body and tail analogy. The fully registered stroke has all 3parts. A broken stroke as in my case has a head, a tail but a missing body. This explains why my phone had randomly made an unwanted selection while I was scrolling the menu. The unwanted selection was due to the detection of the early part of the stroke(THE DOT) with the subsequently missing part halfway through the entire same stroke. In adobe reader, this broken stroke would be interpreted as a zoom because it resembles 2 fingers spreading to zoom in.
for those who have this same problem, please reply. For those who do not, please try to scroll the menu with your s pen by using light strokes only and hopefully kindly report your findings. Anyone with a fix, please help. Thanks.
It appears if you have burst mode turned on, there is no way to take a single picture with the half -> full press button sequence. It automatically categorizes it as a burst, even if you only take one. This is annoying because you can't scroll through all images in the gallery. Anyone else experience this?

Why is this in Themes & Apps ??
Because the camera app is an "app"

Change it to another mode if you don't want it to take burst shots..
That's rather the point of that mode really..

You aren't understanding. There is different behavior. Using the soft button, you can take a single shot with a rapid press. You can also rapid press the hard button and get a single shot. Once you use the hardware button with a half press, you get a single shot but in a burst sub folder no matter how fast you press the button. Bug

I'm not sure that's a bug, bro. You turn on burst mode, all photos save in burst folder. Sounds like they probably intended that, unless I'm missing something....

Suggest you please move this thread to "Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting"...
I don't think I can move threads. A mod is free to although you could argue either way for which forum this goes in.
The bug is undeniable. I didn't turn on "burst mode", I turned on "burst on long press" - HUGE difference. Behavior should be the same across different input methods. So pressing the soft button quickly focuses and shoots one normal shot in the gallery. Pressing the physical shutter quickly shoots one normal shot in the gallery. Pressing the physical shutter half way and then fully depressing shoots a single shot but "categorizes" it as a burst shot so even though there is only 1 picture, it shows the burst icon and has its own folder.
Understood your problem, same on my device. The thing is we only want a burst sequence when we press the shutter full for a longer time. If we press it full only once, it should make a normal photo. Thats what i would expect from this function.

bingo
Same for me. Have switched off the function. Shame as there doesn't seem to be another way to take a burst of photos. There's a "timeshift burst" photo app which is nice but it's not the same and only takes low res photos.
I'm considering moving on from Samsung Galaxy to this Xperia, but there's one really handy feature the Samsung S7 ROM has - when you take a screenshot, there's a button at the bottom "Capture more". If you tap it, the screen will scroll, and the newly visible portion is appended to the bottom of the screenshot. This makes it easy (and possible, really) to take screenshots of long conversation threads in messaging apps. Found it very useful.
Does the Sony ROM have this feature?
If not, is there a screenshot app that could do this?
I do not think so.
You can do it with a third part application: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glitch.stitchandshare
Hi,
Does anyone know if there is compatibility for the old camera app on the new One Ui? Or is it possible to port it now or in the future?
Two things make the camera a downgrade when switching to the new One UI, for me at least:
- You had a separate button for video and picture, so you were one touch away from taking either a video or a picture. I had a really nice setup where I could take a video with the volume buttons and open camera and take picture with 1 click of the Bigsby button. This proved really useful when i went horse back riding for the first time, or with gloves on when the screen is not responsive.
- More importantly: You had a dual shot mode where you could take pictures/video with both cameras at the same time. This was really useful when trying to fit more people in a picture, or even for me to be in there, and have a nice memory stored.
They also locked the Bigsby button so you can no longer disable it... again...
Search for the app on apkmirror and try installing it.

I agree with you. I would also like the previous functionality of having both the camera and video buttons on the same screen again.
As far as the Bixby button goes, you can use BxActions to disable and remap the button. It works pretty well.

I do use BxActions, but how do you prevent Bigsby from appearing when you press it? You used to have to disable it from the Bigsby app, and yo no longer have that option.

I disabled my single press function. I only have a long-press function for my flashlight. Bixby doesn't show up for me when I single-, double-, or long-press the button. Occasionally it'll show the icon at the top and it did open Bixby once, but I couldn't figure out under which circumstance that was and I couldn't replicate it again since. Bottom line, Bixby doesn't show up for me when I press the button.
