Stock launcher vs Nova (ram, speed, responsivnes) - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi,
Has anybody measured if Nova eats less resources than stock launcher?
Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk

Not a comprehensive report by any means but I have not noticed any slowness or resource issues with Nova on the Note 9. However, I would be curious to see what others say, perhaps in more detail.

I started using Nova Launcher the day I got the note 9. Everything is snappy, quick and zero lag.

I used accubattery for a while and noticed that Nova drained less for me than the stock launcher.

Using Nova + Navigation gestures + Edge gestures: still abit better than stock launcher in term of battery.

I've stuck with stock for the last few years.

I'm also a Nova lover here.
But was surprised that stock is pretty much useable as well already.
But I'm still missing some functionality.

Use Nova.
-multiple dock
-resizing widgets
-use gestures and double click etc
-etc etc....
No problems whatsoever.
Huib

I use lawnchair launcher and it's a little faster than nova. It's much quicker to open and close the app drawer etc. Haven't used Nova in a while now as the animations are too slow even when turned up in dev options and nova settings. Lawnchair launcher doesn't have that problem and is very customisable too.

Apex launcher slower than stock on ics?

I've been using Apex launcher for a few days and noticed that the phone has occasional lag/slow downs. While the stock launcher doesn't lag at all.
Both launchers are set up the same; number of screens, widgets, etc.
Just wondering if anyone else is using Apex launcher and how well it performs compared to stock for you
I'm on Elite 10.1 with midnight kernel.

I've been using Apex Pro for some weeks and also experienced some occasional little lags: wasn't completely satisfied with it and changed to Nova, resulting to be more fluent for me. (i'm on slim+semaphore)
You should try different launchers and see if it gets better with them
Just tried out Nova. It seems alot faster than Apex so far!
Only problem is a the homescreen is overlapping the dock rather than sitting above it. Can't find anything in the settings to fix it either...
Update
Never mind I fixed it.

Yep, got the same issue with Apex. For me Nova is better in terms of smoothness, but honestly, I kept comin back to Go launcher ex (it's more of a "habit" issue )
Apex us as fast as nova for me, strange. Make sure apex is a system app, or convert it with titanium backup, and check the keep in memory option in apex settings.
Using GT-I9000 my sent Tapatalk 2 from.
Apex launcher works well for me. Try the newest version.

Best launcher poll

What's the best launcher for the N7? If other, please specify which one.
In my opinion, I enjoy using NOVA.
Nova

I should've added Go Launcher to the poll.
I've never used a bad launcher. Apex is my current favorite. My least favorite was Go.
*nvm*
Nova for me, just like how they are showing the initiative

completely stock, Jelly Bean!
When using Samsung, HTC phones you become so jealous of the stock android launcher that it becomes an obsession.
Whilst touchwiz and sense offer some things that are better, as a past/current user of these phones, we just want to speed and compatibility that nexus devices can offer.
I don't think I'll ever root & install a custom rom on my Nexus 7, it's sexy, super fast & smooth & just what I wanted.
Enough to make me also consider a Nexus phone as my next phone too.

I use go launcher ex, not the HD tablet version. The one for the phone just works better for me.
I like the paid version of Nova the best, but if I wanted a free replacement I'd go with Apex.
At the moment I like the stock launcher the best. I can't really seem to get either Nova or Apex to look the way I want them to.
Apex for some reason I can't have 6 rows in landscape mode, because the gap between the icons and the labels is larger than normal that the labels end up vanishing with more than 5 rows in landscape.
Also I don't like how the dock bar rotates with the screen.
Nova launcher seems to have gotten better after the recent update, I can move icons easier now. One cosmetic issue that bugs me though is I've turned off the google search bar, however in landscape mode it still shows the divider bar between where the search bar was and the rest of the screen on the left side. I really wish that could be removed.

Currently using apex pro, also use adw pro
But I have pre ordered chameleon which will dominate.

Nova is amazing, and blazingly fast. Very clear difference from Apex, which I used for a few days. Sticking with Nova Pro.
I like sslauncher. Different and loved it on my note as well. Just wished had more themes
From the Note to Nexus 7
Stock is great, using Nova to hide apps and sort apps into folders though, and is just as good
Using Nova Prime. Mimics 4.1 quite well and adds more function. No regrets. The reason I purchased Prime is because I already own Widget Locker and I chose to continue my support for the developer.

Which launcher uses the least resources?

I'm currently running ADW EX. It's working well but it gets laggy. Also I know task killers aren't need e d anymore, but with the lack of a recent apps menu I'm wondering if I should install one.I'm on the KFHD 8.9
No opinions on this?
I'm using go launcher HD, it seems more smooth than adw, try it. Greetings! !

Using Nova Launcher here set up with only one home screen and it's buttery smooth.
APEX Launcher
I like the free APEX launcher, is customizable, stable and is not consuming a lot of resources...

This is the "correct" answer.
I've tried ADW, Go, and Nova, and Nova is the smoothest and the lightest (in resource usage) of those 3.
Thanks for weighing in. I'll give Nova a go. Now it's there any way to get task switching going?
AW: Which launcher uses the least resources?
It's not real task switch but still you can easily switch from every app to another.
Called 'swipepad'

I wish nova had a tablet mode. That would make it perfect.

i have 8.4 lte samsung tab s. which is the best launcher? less laggy (no root)

whats a good launcher to make it faster and other other tips?
Check out this thread before you start experimenting with new launchers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2805503
Debloating.
Much performance is to be gained by debloating ! Nova Launcher is a launcher I'd be recommending if you're still not happy with the performance gained from the debloat thread.
+1 nova launcher rocks
Nova here too.

I've tried a bunch of launchers and went back to nova. It seems most comfortable and least fussy. I need to do less work to get it to look the v way I want. Is it the most innovative and have most neato features? No. But I only want to spend so much time fiddling with my launcher.
I have no issue using stock launcher, works fine for me. maybe i'm used to it.
tried others but then went back to touchwiz

I'm using Apex on all my Android devices. I've tried Nova too and they seem almost identical...so much so I can't quite tell what the differences are.
I'm using nova because it is simple yet fully customizable. Touchwiz was good also but I wanted other icons without the need of an extra apk just to load them.

Me too. I gave up looking about a year ago.
Nova prime. It so flexible yet so much like stock launcher. I love it. I use it on all my android devices
Nova Prime as primary and Apex Launcher as Secondary
Nova launcher prime because it has the coolest name.
Nova Prime is the way to go! Respect to the Dev for constant updates and beta's!
Nova Prime, it looks like stock google now launcher, only with the best options and customizations.

Nova Launcher Prime. The best launcher I've ever used. Simple, Minimal, Heavily Customizable, Smooth, looks very close to GNL.

Google Now Launcher.
The only gripe I have with Nova Prime is that the Google search bar is just so damn slow to use, takes a long time to open (as it opens the Google app) and the Google now launcher has (obviously) a much faster access to Google search and Google now.
