GPS NOT DETECTING SATELLITES
Note 8 exynos, not detecting any gps satellites meaning i also cant lock onto any thing. Been using gps status, gps test, satellite fixing apps but none of them is currently functioning. Is there a secret menu where i can hard reset gps settings?
No, there is not such thing as a hidden gps menu

when reading the forum i think people are confusing the two
our diamond has quick-gps standard. this means that it will download a list of sattelites from the internet and use this to get a faster lock.
a-gps is also available, but with adanced config only.
a-gps helps you inpositioning your device with the help of your phone network.
turning on a-gps has a negative impact on tom-tom. (reported on this forum) quick gps works very good with tomtom.
a-GPS is a logical extention to GPS if a wireless (not wifi) signal is present it allows the phone to maintain a GPS signal indoors, or areas of low gps signal.
It is NOT what some phones have reported as GPS by giving you the Cell area you are located in which may be accurate to > 100meters
It uses the cell phone to pin point the rough area it is in, then using incomplete GPS signal at the phone and / or the strong GPS signal at the A-GPS trasmitter to work out your location, it is possible for a trasmitter to be stationed indoors which will allow you to maintain a GPS lock indoors.
there is no reason it should have any effect on tomtom or anything else because its still getting accurate GPS signals all be it relayed from an earth based trasmitter.
quick GPS is a system that lets you lock on to sats quicker by giving the GPS reciever a list of information that "should" be in that area, by having this info it doesnt have to fart about to much getting GPS locks on sats that are not totally available.
Hi everyone,
I'm running on the Nav n Go iGO 8 on the PDA Corner Ultimate XV3 (May 7th) with the 1.65.24.36 Radio and iGO is having issues. aGPS is enabled and it is able to acquire satellite signals but then it freezes when i click street name when entering the destination. However, when aGPS is disabled it cannot acquire signal period as if the GPS unit is non-existent.
HELP
A-GPS
Hi
I can't get iGo8 to work with A-GPS enabled unless I start another program that switches the GPS receiver on and wait for a fix. Even then it's buggy and I have to restart the program every now and then. It is useable though. I find that iGo8 works perfectly with A-GPS switched off. Try waiting for a valid GPS fix before starting iGo8.
Cheers

I just got this phone a few days ago and I'm camping in Maryland now and I've been playing with it. Is the GPS on this thing true standalone GPS or is it track-you-like-a-tagged-animal-thru-the-cell-towers-GPS? The way GPSTest and Google Navigation behave gives me hope it is the better standalone type. Any confirmation?
the SGS is not standalone GPS.. But mine works well and has stopped me from getting lost a few times.
for some is works well for others it dont.
you are one of the lucky ones
Correct my understanding, are u asking that our SGS has gps capability without network signal?
If thats ur question, then the answer is Yes
/nik on MIUI
So I've got one answer for NO and one answer for YES, LOL. So does it or does it not have independent GPS hardware in it?
SGS I9000 has standalone GPS hardware .
It also has A_GPS thats the network/Wifi add on for faster GPS lock etc .
GPS on cold boot no Wifi shows 6 satellites indoors with a 10 m error .
The specifications show it .
Broadcom BCM4751 chipset
The Samsung I9000 Galaxy S comes with a GPS receiver, which got a satellite lock in about three minutes with A-GPS turned off. A-GPS can speed this up quite a bit, but requires Internet access.

Check your model as their are some variants .
GPS test remove sim card turn off wireless .
Delete GPS data .
Get satellite lock or show satellites = GPS hardware as the A_GPS and Network Towers cannot work .

Yes it does, at least on the internation version. But as JJEgan said it won't lock on as quickly if you have your WiFi/mobile network turned off, as it would if you had them turned on.
I was curious as to why there is a button in the notifications menu to turn GPS on and off. I started to look in to it and discovered that there is indeed a GPS chip in the wife only version, or there seems to be anyway!
My question is, what does that chip exactly do? Does it only pick up your location? I can't seem to find any places around me with wifi off. I'm assuming that means all the map and location data is delivered over the internet through 3g or wifi. Is there anyway to use my device as I would a regular GPS device? I know it has all the features but can they work through the GPS chip like they do in a GPS device? Or is there anyway to get this to work?

Ok the wifi is mainly just for accessing networks either open or via ssd and password. You can also connected with mobile AP if your mobile has this option.
The GPS on the other-hand is for mapping and location based services like navigation etc (you can use copilot and several other gps based apps with the P1010). Some of these apps will also piggy back any Bluetooth and or wifi connections that are available for further triangulation if needed. So if you have any apps like various weather and navigation then the GPS is required (but also your location can be shared via your wifi and opt in to give this info through google).
Hope this helps

you can find your location via wifi, enable your wifi and turn gps on, you'll find your coordinates, but not that accurate compare to 3g
Hello,
When turning on GPS (only gps, no mobile data) it seems to lock very slow. I installed GPS status and it detects satellites but to get my location it usually takes about 3-5 minutes. Also if I use a navigation app or a tracking app - for example iGO, MapFactor, Sygic; Nike+, location locking can take more than 3-5 minutes. Even if the GPS status app locks my location it takes the other apps that use GPS some time to find my location. Before it wasn't such big of a deal, but after a couple of days I will have to use my GPS more often.
Does anyone have the same problem and if so is there a solution.
Thanks.
Data on, agps working. Data off, no agps. Simple, but true. It's taking long because your phone doesn't use agps info when locking, so it's not as long as I would think. With data on, here, I can lock in about 20s. Data off, on a clear day, 3 - 5 min, as you.

Go to the app GPS Status, and find Manage A-GPS status, or something like this, than, Download. It will download the GPS satellites position, so it will be easier to find them without internet. Do it everytime you stay more than 1 week without using the GPS.
