Sorry if this has been posted before. I was fumbling through the registry and found references to the following files...
\Windows\3G_Up.wav
\Windows\3G Up_01_1.gif
First one is the sound, the second one is the animated AT&T logo.
Someone replace them and see what happens.
The registry entries are in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\StartupAnimation

Well, why don't YOU replace them and see what happens??????
Why should some else be the "responsible" one? You be responsible for what happens! Not that anything will happen, but don't ask someone else to TEST your "findings".

Because I don't feel like it. I'm not forcing anyone to do anything. Have a drink and relax, Jesus.
You don't FEEL like it? If you are already there, found the files, what else is there to FEEL about doing it??? It sounds like you want someone else to TRY it for you and see if it works or dosen't work.
Have a drink and relax? How about you grow a set of balls and try editing your own registry FIRST instead of saying
"Someone replace them and see what happens"

Now you're talkin about my balls. Fabulous.
I have no suitable animated gif or sound I wish to use at the moment.
Others are welcome to try.

No, not talking about your balls... but rather the lack OF you having balls.
Anyway, thanks for the "tip".
here is a thread with custom startup pics but not sounds...

Totally shocked by your response
I'll try to be more clear about my good intentions next time I post something. I was searching the registry looking to move all the video and picture folders to the storage card when I happened upon this. It wasn't something I was in any hurry to play with so I figured I'de see if someone else wanted to.
Upon further investigations it seems this was already posted in a Hermes thread. I do remember seeing someone ask how to do this in the Kaiser forum so I thought I would offer it up.
As for my balls, well what can I say, I'm quite happy with them lol.
-James
This was posted before in another thread. I tried it. I replaced my startup animation with the one that is on the kaiser. I also deleted the reference to the 3g .wave file in the registry and left it blank. After soft resetting I now have the HTC logo animation and no annoying 3g sound.
Hi Guys,
A member of the cyanogenmod posted a fix for the direction issue.
I just wanted to bring it here, so more people can test it.
Original thread:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/20584-directioncompass-issues/
Keep an eye on that thread, maybe there will be an update.
EDIT: I think ali ba posted a open source fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13123944&postcount=31
People reporting that is working to!

Just note that this just installs the original closed source GPS module, problem with CM7 is that loc_api module calculates the bearing/direction wrong. But only on Legend, so probably the data from GPS is not usable as is.

Couldn't really care less which bit of which ROM it installs as long as it works
Well you'll care once you update your ROM you'll have to apply this "fix" again

Hardly; I won't be updating until it's fixed. Besides, it's one more tiny update to apply, I'm sure I can spare the 20 seconds out of my life.
Thank you for this fix. I'll try it tomorrow

Just now tested it and it works brilliantly, thanks for posting this =)

I don't care what it does; it works and that's what matters. I still can't believe they released the final CM7 without GPS working while older nightlies worked fine.

If you can add debug messages to heading/bearing calculation it would maybe help you to get a better idea about whats going on?

Oh, thank you, this is a great idea!
Now, would you care to tell me where to add these debug messages?
Sygic Aura works fine after installing Gps fix but Igo don't play well... I mean, application run but with an heavy delay in updating the video probably because the program it's waiting for GPS update.
Tested with a fresh install of CM7 today.

Anyway, if I find it, what "debug messages" do you want me to add?

Sarcastic and synical, I am sure you are a great developer and I am very glad with the roms and your development, but I don't understand why you have to behave like this, feels no good.

Another explanation would be that I'm actually trying to get people out of their demanding attitude towards something that is more in the spirit of open source. I failed, obviously.
CyanogenMod is not some closed source project of a few people trying to get a little bit of fame. We are enthusiasts, we enjoy what we do and most important: We open source every freaking single line of code.
Yet still people run around giving unbelievably ridiculous advice ("add debug messages") de-facto trying to tell me what to do instead of trying to accomplish it themselves.
No, "I don't know how to" doesn't count – I don't either. I've been writing software for quite a few years now – embedded systems, web development, HDL, etc. – and I know very well that it's absolutely exhausting to actually do something instead of telling others what to do. It takes a long time to understand code, it might be frustrating and you sometimes have to stop, do something else and resume a few days later. Same for me as for everyone else. I'm not angry that most people are afraid of that.
What actually makes me want to scream is a patronizing, "kthnxbye"-ing smarty-pants who thinks he had some sort of brain wave telling me to "add debug messages". It's a standard procedure to attach a debugger, add debug output, do whatever gives you insight on what it's doing and why it's wrong.
To get an idea about this specific bug I had to find out when the compass is used and when it takes the heading values, where those values are retrieved, whether there are any conversions going on that shouldn't, whether it's a random issue or something there that triggers it. All by reading through crappy code that was reverse engineered by guessing and hacking together code that was never written for the Legend's hardware and running around outside like an idiot because I still need a real GPS signal to get debug output.

You're going about it in entirely the wrong way, if I may. If it annoys you that much, knock a FAQ together when you've the time, and stop answering posts that rile you up. People get responses to demands, and they don't stop once they get a response.
I'll probably get a nice pile of mad for this bit, but try to understand that the vast majority of people who come here don't understand this "Linux thing" or software development- they have a phone, and they just like it to work. They like cool stuff, and they like not having to pay for it even more. If their post annoys you so much, why not just ignore it instead of getting your rage/apathy/etc on? People don't learn by being told they're dumb, they learn by asking questions. If you don't want to answer them, then don't- it's really that simple
Do bear in mind before you reply that most people here really value the work you guys put into CM. Don't think that my post suggest otherwise, I really am genuinely trying to help the situation here.
with the current buzz of DrawSomething, I thought I would check it out but it doesn't seem to fit within the screen resolution of the galaxy mini.
does anyone know if it is possible to resize/change something in the APK file to get it to fit?
thanks in advance
as far as I know you can't, because it's not compatible with our "legacy"devices
as for editing the apk to fit your need you must get a permission from the developer to do that; or you will be kicked in the a**(just kidding)
It is possible if you get it from other sources, its difficult because of the size issue - but still fun!
As for resizing it, I've thought about it, maybe try it today

Not if it's floss you don't, you don't need to ask permission even if they say so as long as it's under a correct license and you can't mix licences even under V2 of the GNU public license.
You might wonder how MIUI can be proprietary, well they can't and are not any more.
You can take anything and change it in any way without asking permission as long as you redistribute it under the same version of GNU licence.
AND YOU CAN DO SO IN ANY WAY YOU PLEASE.
When someone says that you can't, it just means they don't have a clue about the licence, the code or the intentions of the floss community, give them the finger and be done with them.

Thanks, I did see that thread awhile back but just skimmed it. I loaded "Enhanced Toast" module and will play around with that to see.
Didn't work for me. I tried using the "EnhancedToast" module for xposed and the prompts do not register as toast events. not sure what else to do.

They're chasing their tails over at the thread you linked to, the answer is over at the AT&T Galaxy S5 forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2799050
I deserve absolutely zero credit for this fix, I just wanna bring it to people's attention.
Decompile system/app/PopupuiReceiver.apk (I prefer apk-multi-tool). Open res/values/bools.xml and change the true value in the line:
<bool name="display_battery_cover_popup">false</bool>
to false. Recompile the apk, copy back to phone, set permissions to rw-r--r-- (644) and then finally replace the original apk.
???
Profit
I'll follow this up with a n00b-friendlier guide if people would like since I'm a n00b and this has been bothering me for a while. Hopefully this helps my fellow Active users

Can any one recommend a similar free download script? I am looking for something that has a timer and hides the download path.

The script you've linked to seems to do exactly what you want to do.
If not, you can always look around for .htaccess codes (a one that hides the URL) or something.
