Debrie in Note 9 camera? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

1 month old... How da hell did this happen?

Shouldn't this be covered by warranty?
Device is sealed.. so if you didn't hit it.. no debris should be inside.
Unless you hit it..

If you didn't cause this to happen by dropping it or knocking something loose inside, I would take it back to where you purchased it and insist on a replacement. talk about quality control -

its in mint condition. From day 1 in proper casing... not a micro scratch on it...

they will probably dismantle it, and have it for a week, until cleaned... And from my experience, after that kinda work, phone ALWAYS looses its water resistance... fml... good thing it doesnt get in a way for photos... yet...

That's what they all say.. joke.
I'd either live with it if it's not interfering with images or send it in for repair. Me, personally I'd rather not have my device torn open if possible.

I get that but when you pay 1k for a phone, you expect it to be in a little better condition than that.

Just got a refurbished HTC One. Everything is great but...

I just noticed I can see PM up on the top right side of the screen and some notifications in the top left corner during full screen apps, especially with a full grey screen. I didn't see those a couple hours ago when I got it.
Did I seriously just burn in my screen already? Is this normal for a "new" One? Or should I be freaking out?
I did nothing out of the ordinary since I got it. Just rooted it, restored apps, put it on the charger for a bit. That's all.
I see 127 views and no replies. No one wants to touch this one lol! I'm taking it back to Sprint in the morning. I shouldn't be getting burn in less than 24 hours into using any phone, refurbished or not.

Yea,i agree, take it back and make them replace it,it should last longer than 24 hours, wether you flash it or not,im upgrading to this from the EVO 4G,in 2 months, but it will be a new one, hahaha,i just cant wait,so i can start to dev for the One now and maybe port over my 4 kornerz rom.
I would take it back as well.
Also, pay attention to the screen. In my One, the speakers busted (same as my OG Evo, Evo 3D and Hero. Htc makes ****ty speakers) I also have a dead pixel so I filed an insurance claim. Today I received the new One and the display is garbage. The whites look dingy and yellow like a cheaper version. It doesn't compare at all to my current One.
I'm gonna send it back and try my luck again =\

Nope. You're lucky then because HTC speakers are cheap and it isn't just me who says so. Here is a quick google search but you can dig deeper and see for yourself. I never really cared because replacing the speaker was easy...but with the HTC One it is a repair nightmare.

Asurion is gonna be sending me another one as well. I just hope the screen matches the one I have now. It is so much better than the replacement. I wish I could take pix and show you guys, it's annoying the things could be this drastically different.
Glad your issue is getting resolved! :good:
So apparently this thing isn't near impossible to repair if they are sending out refurbs as replacements.

/sigh.
I'll halfway attempt to break it down, but I doubt you'll understand.
There are people who break down how difficult it would be for the average consumer to do things such as repairs for these phones (hint:ifixit). The average consumer isn't gonna own all the tools/equipment or possess the knowledge/skill as a professional. This is true in probably everything you'll ever get repaired, otherwise mechanics have been ripping people off for years.
This phone scores as low as possible when it comes to repairs. It doesn't mean that professionals can't repair it. Ifixit isn't gonna breakdown how easy it is for HTC or other phone repair people, why the *@*! would anyone care about that? They are breaking it down for the not so skilled.

I got my phone replaced once already as well, but Sprint said they DO NOT use refurbished phones as replacements until the phone has been released for 6 months.
But what was odd is that my replacement phone didn't come with a box, so I dialed ##786# and checked the "reconditioned status" which stated "none." I wonder if this replacement is not a refurb, then why did it come with no box?

Sprint doesn't handle it, Asurion does. They'll tell you it could be new or refurbished. It all depends on what they have. Both of mine came with a box, but that doesn't mean they're new.
I'm about to send ny second replacement back. The screen is just too yellow and dingy looking. It's a damn shame I have to file an insurance claim and pay a deductible on a month old phone.

To update, my 2nd refurb seemed nice enough. But after having it a couple days, I've noticed the screen colors are pretty blown out and definitely not like it should be. Colors are as funky as they can be, and the screen itself is way too bright. And for insult to injury, the phone is unable to connect to 4G LTE. So back to Sprint I go!

I would be highly surprised if it would not. Especially if your phone is still newish. Just say no user error could ever cause this.

Thanks I'll give it a shot. Anyways, does warranty usually replace the entire phone or do they usually just repair the damaged areas?

Depends, my carrier swaps out defective units for a new one right away if it's 2 months old or less. Otherwise it gets send away for repair.
I'd steer the conversation towards a new one in any case...
Buddy had same issue took it back got a knew one never asked a question had it for only like a week tho
Alright so when your provider decides to replace the phone for warranty, will you have to wait a few days for the new phone or will they give you a new one on that same time?

Curved and scracthed Xperia Z1

In the 4 years time i NEVER broke a Smarthphone and only a single scratch in the screen.
This is the first of the (Iphone1-Sony x10-Samsung note 1, note 2, now x1) 5 smarthphones to have a fully scratched screen and broke down.
Im sure of the fact that the upcoming year i wont be having a smarthphone of this premium class or insurance must cover it (I doubt it)
I noticed my Xperia Z1 was heavenly scratched today.
Then i went looking for XDA to say this issue and the screen went weird.
The touchscreen did what he wanted and not me. So i became angry.
How the **** can this happen!
Then the screen went off. I was like W T Hell!???
LED flash turned on and stayed that way.
I wanted to press reset button and came to the conclusion the phone is curved...
How???
Screen doesnt turn on, Computer doesnt detect it.
Lets press Reset button.
Led goes off. But nothing else works anymore.
Volume up and power or volume down doesnt work either.
Sony says i got to contact them and send the phone.
Wich will i quess 100% result into me paying a big amount of money to fix it...
The phone doesnt turn on and has items that are not allowed to be seen by others (classified) .
I got to send it to the insurance company.
Anybody knows how to get these files of the phone?
Computer doesnt see it. And it doesnt turn on.

It dropped from half waist-shoulder (Chest?) height onto the shower mat.
It came out after it as a curved phone.
It is utterly destroyed. Not even a single piece of glass is broken.
The inner part is broken thought...
When i press power button it lowers the brightness of the flash light.
But i dont need the data inside the phone.
I need to get RID of it.
So the insurance company cant get it.
How can i do this?
I cant touch the phone ferther (Breaking it more). If i was allowed i would do it...

If i get a new one. If... I am never going to take it off.
But look at this:
Phone 100% intact. Except for the insides.
So the outside is strong as hell. Better then any other phone.
But the inside wich is the most important of a phone... Yeah you know it.
My Note 2 had some paint of the sides (grey bezel). Costed me 25 euros and 4minutes to replace.
This phone on the other hand.
I either have it insured 100% (own fault) and have to pay 250 own risk. Or i dont get it insured. (Insurance for everything in the house including electronics)
My phone insurance was still on Note 2. I just had the Xperia Z1 new and didnt put it over yet.
F my life!
If it isnt insured. Well i still got a Sony ericsson Cybershot K770 wich is like??? 7-8 years old...
I cant pay 700 euros for a new premium phone

goto love this.. you dropped your phone and are asking for a software repair..
sort it with your insurance, and if you don't have insurance, tough!
New pictures and a video.
In the video you can see it isnt straight anymore at all.
It is curved like the Samsung galaxy curve. But then the lenght direction instead of the weidth.
I hate it to see it like this.
And i gave my Galaxy note 2 to my dad as birthday present. But i have to get it back now for a few days till i got a cheaper replacement for my Sony or insurance cover.
I got a budget of 200,- atm for a new phone if i must.
So i hope i can get atleast 500 euro out of insurance or full cover of the 750 euros.
But i wont be buying an Sony Z1 anymore if i can choose.
I am going back to plastic phones.
They are more premium to me then this junk...
How can a phone go in a curve like this from such a height???
I hope Sony replaces it. Apple replaces an iPhone for 150€, not matter what you did to it.
I don't want to put my Z1 into an ugly case...

I think you must be blind.
I am ASKING HOW TO GET MY DATA OFF. Not a software repair.
There is classified data on the phone. I need to get it out.
I am not saying i need the software fixed so it runs again.
There is something snapped inside or popped out of the flex cable connectors.
And i am not going to open it so my insurance will say get lost.

Simple answer to your question is no, the only thing you can try and do and thats if your phone will even do this is to use flashtool to flash a firmware and this will wipe your phone atleast all your "classified data" will be deleted. If the phone is that messed that it wont do that then your stuck im afraid....sorry

I thought the same. That kind of bend does not occur from a drop within reasonable hight, not even beyond so. It looks just like it's been in a back pocket and sat on, almost forcibly so.

This phone with it's weight not even being 200g, don't build up the force form dropping to bend it self...

man... to be honest... I completely understand your felling and frustration... even a small imperfection like this can make me crazy too. In my case I always inspect the screen looking for dead pixels (I usually install dead pixels app from the store)... and I have returned many phones because of this. Just checked my white note 4. The speaker on mine is fine. I'd return it if I were you.
It looks like assembly problem. It appears that your speakers grill sits on top of foam gasket (this would be a reason why it springs back).

And if I buy at a store, it has to be the same type store, meaning if I bought at a corporate store, I have to go another corporate store.
UPDATE: Ok they had to reorder me a new phone (black). It wasn't out of stock so they are going to ship it to me overnight at no charge and will get it on Wednesday. As usual, they are charging me for the new one and will refund the charges on the 1st phone when they receive it back.

I guess I got lucky the 2nd time around.
Not quite sure how UPS works but with FedEx ground it cannot be changed either once it ships. If it was express then they can switch between next day, 2nd and 3 days.

Got my replacement today and I'm happy to report that it doesn't have the same issue. And is perfectly flushed against the glass.

***horrible bad burn in note 9***

Don't know how many note 9 with burn there are but here is mine! Looks terrible! Noticed it for the first time last night when it got pretty dark outside and it is super annoying! I assume Samsung will replace with new one? But I have a whitestone and skinomi on it, I am sure they wont cover those
With some light in room
Pretty much completely dark room
Anybody else experience this or have any ideas?
It looks like to me it's screen burn-in. I don't think you can do anything about it.

If you're still within the one year warranty, complain to samaung through "Samsung +" app and don't mention anything about burn in. Just say my screen doesnt look right. If you're out of the warranty then you're SOL.

I had the same issue a month ago. Samsung won't replace it but they will change the screen. They did that for me, but the issue is coming back again. People need to reach out to Samsung and bring this issue to light. Too many units are doing this now but not enough people are speaking up.
Check out the Note 9 screen burn in thread and you'll see other users, including myself, who have pics posted of the same issue.
Sorry about your phone... Reach out to Samsung asap and make sure to send them picture evidence of your issue when you send in your phone. The more people to complain, the more likely Samsung will probably decide to replace these defective units.

I have had since 9/25 so just over 2 months, wonder if I can just return for a full money refund?

That close? That shouldn't happen. I'd definitely get a factory replacement from Samsung. I doubt that your carrier would return it because it's been a while.

Yeah, that's not even two months. Burn ins will never happen in two months unless you make them happen on purpose. Just contact Samsung. They will replace it. They have an app called samaung +. Use it. They're very helpful.

yeah i mean i use it daily and average about 2-3 hours of screen on time and nothing intensive or static images that would cause burn in. Do i just return for refund and buy a new phone or try a new note 9 again? I mean is this going to happen in a month or two again??

Talk to a rep on the app. They're very good. I'd get a new one for a replacement from them. Make sure it's not a refurb. O doubt they'd give you a refund. Burn ins dont happen that soon. You literally need at least two years of the same screen layout and same things done everyday. I've been using oleds since Samsung released them on their first note and I've never had any burn in. And yours actually doesnt even look like a burn in to be honest. It looks a screen uniformity issue.

Your phone has a screen problem, not a burn in. Burn ins are shadows of things you have on your home screen, like your status bar and icons. This is nothing like that. This is an issue with your screen and they'll give you a replacement. Just make sure to present your proof of purchase such as your receipt and all that jazz and you'll be fine.

I agree that it is a screen uniformity issue or something odd. I have every note since the note 2 and never seen this and all of those were used a year and never had a problem. My nav bar isn't "burnt in" which is weird because it is always up and dark
and i have been talking to a rep on samsung+ and sending photos and troubleshooting for him, seems very nice and helpful so far

Good. They'll take care of you I'm sure. The only thing you might worry about is having another phone because they might have you send this one in. Hope all goes well for ya.

I'd argue with them and ask to speak to a manager or a supervisor. This phone is only two months old. I mean, if anything just take the screen replacement honestly. They will only send you to a Samsung authorized repair shop

It's basically going to be a new phone. They will keep the mother board and camera from the old phone and put it in a new body.
So new body and new battery.
At least that is how they handled every report of burn in on the Note 8.
If they send you to a UBreakIFix it is about a two hour turn around..

and then waterproofing may be compromised as well. Then i can't sell for anything good because it has had the screen replaced. Yes it was a UBREAKIFIXIT location.

Nope water resistance isn't compromised.
That's UbreakIFix's statement. Its as water resistant as a new one out of the box.. That's part of why they dont just replace the screen.
