Buried favourites? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

I've noticed a trend of hiding favourites in the contact app, requiring further navigation to get to them rather than making the list front and centre when the contacts app starts.
Personally, I'd find an icon that launched straight into the favourites list more useful then the default contacts icon. Is there such a thing?
Why must they bury the favourites list?

You can create a contact shortcut but dont think you can do it for the fav list as a whole

iskoot client - cannot scroll through contacts

hi there. great stuff this iSkoot.
got it going on a samsung i780 and a htc diamond
however
i sign in ok, i can see contacts, i can even call a contact on the list (the first one)
but but
i cannot scroll through the contacts, neither can i select the one after the first.
i can change tabs from the main to the status icon, but the chat icon doesnt appear bottom right, have to click on the individual and start chat again for it to go into that.
once ive started a chat with someone, then close it to return to main window, i cannot scroll through contacts anymore...
but im pretty restricted to the not scrolling so i cant test more.
any ideas i would be so grateful, this is a super piece of kit, and it would be a shame not to be able to use it...
The best would be to address this with the iSkoot developers directly.

Remove Favorites?

I am trying to remove a Contact from my favorites list. They are not a starred contact, but they are still in my favorites due to frequent calls. The problem is I don't talk to this person anymore. Does anyone know how to remove them from this list? I am using a N1 Froyo Stock. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I have tried that, but my option is add to favorites instead of remove from favorites. If I try to add to favorites it puts it at the very top, then when I remove it again it puts it back where it was to begin with.
Delete their info from your Google contacts online
Should do the trick
download "historyeraser" from the market. it gives you an option to delete contacts history (favorites) but it'll erase all favorites that are not starred.
Remove the person from the favorite group
I just got the HTC Aria. I had the same issue. When you select a person as a favorite it adds them to your google contacts favorite group. Remove the person from the group and you remove them as a favorite on your phone.

[Q] ADW: Can't Find Desktop App Pics

I created a desktop direct messaging app to call my boss, with a pic of an angry boxer dog. Made the pic as a gif and png with transparent background, although it's showing up as black on the desktop for some reason. I assigned the pic as the app's icon using Gallery, and I suspect that it's converting the background to black, but I cannot find where app pics are stored either on the SD or /system.
Any clues?
Really?
Nobody knows?
Only users here?
Dont know about the others, but I have these questions for you:

An App? Do you have a link to it? Do you mean a shortcut ?
I infer you're assigning a picture to one of your contacts, and have a direct dial shortcut on your home screen.
If its a google contact you can add a picture on the web too, https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?shva=1#contacts
Dont know if it supports GIF images.
Correct, I'm assigning a picture to one of my contacts, and have a direct messaging shortcut on my home screen. No idea where these are stored.
Can't use the G**gle method, as I do not allow any G**gle apps on my phone, much less GMail.
I've got to think these are a symlink somewhere and have a thumbnail associated with, maybe in some ADW directory, but I've looked everywhere.
Amazing. The location of app icons is a mystery.
its probably in /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/, managed by the contacts app.
Why do you want to know where the contact thumbnails are stored?

[Q] Sorting contacts

I want to sort out my phone contacts so it only displays people who have phone numbers and not people I just have an email address for. Is there any way to do this? Thanks.

I suppose you could create a group with all the people with numbers and chose to display just those. I don't know how else to do it. The option to choose what groups to display is in the settings of the people app. Settings > contacts to display > customize
Yeah might have to do this. Its strange why they wouldn't.include this as an option. Also I find it a bit of a pain that you dont have the option to quickly scroll to a contact by clicking a letter to display all contacts beginning with that. Maybe there's a third party contacts app with these features.

Dialer app - specific functions for kid phone

Hello guys,
I was looking for kids mode like the one from Samsung. Unfortunately my kid's phone is not samsung and i wasnt able to port the application to work on Sony Device.
The main reason for this is that they had a Dialer application for kids which shows no phone number but ONLY the name of the mother/father contacts while calling. I want to use this function to make the phone more secure in case is stolen or robbed. As well it offers to block any other incoming calls except the selected ones.
@ktmom suggested me to try with a Tasker. I've never been experience a similar software for this kind of things.
Could you please gimme some advices or help regarding my needs and suggest me from where to start.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Ho [emoji16]
The plan I would start with is to create a shortcut on the desktop or a notification with call mom (or dad) buttons. Then use tasker to directly dial the numbers (as variables) without having them entered into the phone's contacts.
The trick is the dialer history will keep a history of called numbers, but I think that can be deleted; though we may need one or two plugins to tasker to achieve that reliably.
If this is in line with your goals, then I'll be happy to create a task or two to handle this that you can import. That is easier than teething to develop it yourself as a beginner.
I'm at the airport waiting for my daughter's flight, but let me know if this will work, or any ideas you have.
Sure, let's do it like that with your help. And in the process of developing we can sharpen it.
BTW thank you so much for your help and patience. I do really appreciate your help. ????
I actually just got home. Is there a timeframe for this? I'm thinking Christmas or similar. Otherwise I'll spend some time this weekend to come up with something for you.
This is just a basic set of tasks to create quick dialers to Mom and Dad, without needing the numbers to have been entered into the contacts app.
One task, "create shortcuts", sets two of Tasker's quick setting tiles. One will call Dad, the other will call Mom. The use of the quick settings tiles should help prevent accidental calls and still be convenient.
After importing the linked project, go to the device's quick settings editor and drag the first two Tasker tiles into the active area. The tasks won't actually appear set to the tiles until they are in the active area.
The task, "create shortcuts" should run on import of this project, performing the configuration mentioned above; associating the tiles with the "call mom" and "call dad" tasks.
The icons are set in the respective "call mom" or "call dad" task. To change the icon, enter the task then tap the icon at the bottom and select a new one. The "create shortcuts" task may need to be run again (manually) to update the tile's icon.
You must go to the "dialer" task and edit the value in the "To" field within the first two actions to the appropriate phone numbers.
The left facing arrow at the top left of the screen exits out of the task and saves the changes. You should also make a habit of tapping the checkmark [emoji736] at the top of the screen after saving a task, which saves the changes to Tasker. That checkmark is available only when there are changes to be saved.
This is just a start, hoping to get feedback if this is the right direction for you.
Import Kids Phone project.
Hey,
thanks a lot for the time you spent for this.
I've tested it and it calls with no issues.
Now we have to make the phone numbers to disappear. Can we put a fixed custom title? This is because it uses the name written in the contact list.
BTW is there an option to drop an icon on the desktop of the phone?
Thanks again for your great help!

Yes, we can create a desktop shortcut. Instead of the tiles?
What do you mean "it uses the name in the contact list"? Do you mean in the call history?
I meant that when I run the call from the tasker it uses the name from the contact book/history. This is not big issue, but it just wondering if it's possible.
Thank you

That is the relationship the phone app has with the contact app. You have to remove the names from the contact app.
I'm confused. I thought the goal here is to obfuscate the phone numbers so if the phone is picked up by a "stranger", the numbers are not evident.
If I was, for example, a stalker, and I took the child's phone to get phone numbers, the first place I would look is in the contacts app. The second place is in the call log. Can you help me understand what is and isn't necessary here.
To create the task to remove the call's history from the history, I have to sort out the contentrovider structure for the phone database. I've explored the text messaging DB, but I need to be on my computer to find the phone DB structure.
