[Q] ADW: Can't Find Desktop App Pics - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I created a desktop direct messaging app to call my boss, with a pic of an angry boxer dog. Made the pic as a gif and png with transparent background, although it's showing up as black on the desktop for some reason. I assigned the pic as the app's icon using Gallery, and I suspect that it's converting the background to black, but I cannot find where app pics are stored either on the SD or /system.
Any clues?

Really?
Nobody knows?
Only users here?

Dont know about the others, but I have these questions for you:

An App? Do you have a link to it? Do you mean a shortcut ?
I infer you're assigning a picture to one of your contacts, and have a direct dial shortcut on your home screen.
If its a google contact you can add a picture on the web too, https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?shva=1#contacts
Dont know if it supports GIF images.

Correct, I'm assigning a picture to one of my contacts, and have a direct messaging shortcut on my home screen. No idea where these are stored.
Can't use the G**gle method, as I do not allow any G**gle apps on my phone, much less GMail.
I've got to think these are a symlink somewhere and have a thumbnail associated with, maybe in some ADW directory, but I've looked everywhere.

Amazing. The location of app icons is a mystery.

its probably in /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/, managed by the contacts app.
Why do you want to know where the contact thumbnails are stored?

Blurry Fav Contact pics

The pictures I use for contacts look pretty good but when creating a favorite the pic becomes quite blurry. Nothing like the nice hot chickie pics in all the Diamond ads. Anyone else with this problem? Is it related to a particular pic format or resolution?
Thanks!
Try this:
Go to TF3D album and pick a picture you want to add to a contact.
Select the pic. Select the options the pic has (by cliking on pic)
then just select "save to contact" this will place the pic at full res.
Enjoy.
Worked great, thanks!
I cannot find my contact pictures in TF3D album.
The pictures have been added in Outlook and are visible in the contact details. But apparently they are not saved on the device???
Any idea?

nope,
what he means is that you have to put the pictures in your album and asigne theme to your contact frome there.
But then will the pictures be visible in Outlook?

I know there was an app that converted pictures you took of a page and converted all the words from the page into text, so you can email it/text it or whatever.
Does anybody remember the name of this app?

The update is staged and it will take few day until it will come to everyone.

Looks great. Does it support the lock screen?
Good thing? ?
Is it possible to have smaller pictures, or choice to select picture size in the future Or have 4x4, 4x2, etc. ?
I like to see more favorite contacts at once on home screen.

I'll see what i can do with the smaller pictures.
Lock screen mode is enabled also
Good widget:good:
Awesome widget! The only thing I wish it had is an option to force a confirmation pop-up window when clicking on a contact. or something like that. I find myself calling people by accident when I put the phone back in my pocket.
Cheers!
I don't know if this is possible with future updates but I figured I'd throw it out there:
It would be cool if this app could somehow pull data from Calendars or Facebook and let you know "its so-and-so's birthday today" as a reminder for you to call them.

Firefox set image as to Contacts. Bug, or not smart enough?

So earlier today I was attempting to grab an online photo of someone to associate with a contact so I don't accidentally reject the call (I tend to just let people I don't know go to voice mail). So I looked up the number with Firefox/duckduckgo, found the photo I wanted, did a press/hold and the menu pops up. Select 'Set image as' and then selected Contacts.
Contacts then crashes (I tried it twice, with the same result, except the second time it asked to close app or send feedback, vs restart app and send feedback.)
So is this a bug? Or is it me thinking the phone should be smarter than that? I mean is Contacts thinking I'm opening it AS a Contact? And since all it sees is a jpg, it crashes?
This seems like it'd be good functionality. now I wonder if Bixby would look up a photo and put it into a contact for me....

Buried favourites?

I've noticed a trend of hiding favourites in the contact app, requiring further navigation to get to them rather than making the list front and centre when the contacts app starts.
Personally, I'd find an icon that launched straight into the favourites list more useful then the default contacts icon. Is there such a thing?
Why must they bury the favourites list?

You can create a contact shortcut but dont think you can do it for the fav list as a whole
