Randomly stopped working - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

Hi,
I got my Mi A2 about 3 or 4 days ago, and really love it, but today I set it down for a minute after using it, and it worked perfectly fine, and when I picked it up, the screen wasn't responding, so I tried restarting the phone and all it did was light up the screen, but it was all black, and turn off a minute later, but you can tell it would boot up because the phone would respond to me using the fingerprint sensor (by vibrating), and the notification LED would also light up when I went to charge it, along with vibrating when I held in the power button to restart. I tried messing around with it, and the screen turned on once, but was super glitchy and shuttered and jumped around before turning off again. When I boot it into fastboot mode the screen stays on (but the entire screen is all black, but you can tell the screen is lit), and it's recognized by my computer when I use fastboot commands. It's just especially weird, because I have not dropped the phone once, and I have kept the stock firmware and haven't rooted or unlocked the bootloader or anything yet. I can't tell if it's an issue where the device had a faulty screen or if the motherboard is the problem since the screen can turn on initially when booting up, but turns off a second later and won't come back on. I've contacted the seller I bought it from, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same issue because I don't want to run into the same thing again.
Thanks in advance!

Seems like the device has faulty hardware. From the facts you mentioned, it can be assumed that the problem lies with motherboard. It's better to get the piece replaced since you have recently purchased it.

I have the same issue. I got the device on Sunday morning by 11. I went to 6X MiUi 9 to MiUi 10 EU (Without firmware update) later returned back to A2 stock, set it up. Then was using the device, like copying files from otg etc. After that while phone was in use, suddenly screen went off with notification led working. I restarted to fastboot, no bunny but device is detected with fastboot commands. Only black slightly backlit (it seems) screen. Suspect issue with Ambient display(It was on) coz 2-3 times screen flickered while using from the time I got it.
I then went back to MiUi 9 to see if it was an issue with rom. I could feel phone turning on, vibrations, notification led etc. MiUi 9 was flashed successfully from Edl again and boot up shows same issue. I confirmed it is a hardware issue.
Returned to A2 stock rom (issue still persists), ordered a replacement device, returned the device on Monday, expecting replacement in 2-3 days as it is shipped now.

hi! I have the exact problem. May i know if you already fixed it ? Thanks

[Q] Help!!! Grainy green screen With lines during boot up

It started about 30mins ago, was on a call which the screen locks off when u on a call like stand by, but when ending the call the screen would turn on back no matter what. anyways i took out the battery thinking maybe the roms just buggy or the battery dead since it was on low. puttin back the battery the phone wouldnt turn on, took it out and tried again same result.
so i put it on charged nothing, gave it about 2mins charge it came on, but the boot screen with the X just had some green pixel dots all over and horizontal lines for about 3 secs then back to normal, but the phone wont boot pass that.
took out the batteries again, back in then try boot into fastboot or bootloader but nothing, just the boot screen, then the rom booted after waiting, took longer than normal. so i turned it off and try the bootloader or fastboot but it wont load just the rom, so i restarted to recovery mode from the rom it worked, turn off and try bootloader or fastloader mode they worked, now it seems all working fine, also my touchscreen is responding perfectly and the rom loading ok.
but anytime i boot the phone the bootscreen has the green pixels and lines just the same. im abit worried as i dont want things getting worse, is there anyway to fix this, is it some virus? could i just flush everything and start over???
any help would be greatful, thanks.

You guys think updating my radio from 4.06 to probably 5.08?
Almost similar with few different colors but I dropped my n1. It took me almost a day to see that the LCD was broken. Turn off the phone or screen and look in sunlight. They really were hard to notice and I showed to 4 different peoples whom all failed to notice until I showed them. Hope yours is just a minor software problem.
well i just check its not broken and it didnt fall from me so im guessing its software but im wondering if it can fix but i dont wanna flash my phone and things get worse or even brick my phone, so im asking before i try anything more.

H811 won't boot after multiple battery pulls... HELP!

So I can't boot my phone. Previously stable h811, unlocked bootloader running latest 20i Extreme 3.3 MM with G4 Tweaksbox. I have a Qi/NFC sticker on the back, but which has worked flawlessly and was not in use when the phone died. Here's what happened and what I have attempted.
Problem began when phone simply went black. The only thing running was Maps, which had a route displayed but was not in navigation mode. The screen went dark like normal, and when I went to wake the phone, nothing happened. I was in the car and tried plugging in the car charger and did not get a charge light. Pulled the battery and was unable to get a response. The phone and battery were quite warm.
When I got home, I tried a different battery, and the screen turned on to the LG initial boot screen, but nothing else happened.
After many battery pulls and attempts to boot into recovery, I tried it with the phone plugged into the computer. Finally, it showed the charging screen and light, and after several more attempts- pulling the battery and inserting it, then powering on, it appeared to be booting, (boot animation started, but then looped and froze on the initial boot screen (with bootloader state: bootloader unlocked in the upper corner). After another round of attempt/battery pull, it booted all the way up, but at that point I had my sim pulled. Pulled the battery and tried to restart and it froze on the initial boot screen again. Haven't been able to get into recovery at all, can't get into download, can't boot past the initial LG screen. Sometimes it loops, sometimes it just hangs. Nothing I do pressing combos of buttons, plugged into computer or unplugged, seems to change anything. The very farthest I've gotten is the breathe blue light before the boot animation, but then it looped. Now it's boot looping plugged into the computer.
Any ideas? I'm at a total loss.

Black screen of death here too
Yesterday, I was using Chrome, site loading, screen just went black. I had about 1/2 battery at the time. I figured maybe the battery was just reporting wrong. When I got home, swapped batteries, same issue. I've been able to get into recovery and attempt a factory reset a couple of times (after many frustrating attempts.) The phone seems to only be able to be powered on for about 30 seconds before it goes black again. I'm going to attempt to fix with download mode now. If anyone else has solved a similar issue, any tips would be appreciated.
Hardware appears to be at fault!
Check this out, people!

Spread the word. Sounds like this is our problem. Apparently affecting mostly models with serial numbers starting 505xxxxx... which is what mine is. Called LG and they issued an RA# and shipping label to send it to them for service. I'm a little concerned since I didn't buy mine through a carrier, but this seems more like something of a soft recall than strictly a warranty issue, so I'm hoping they fix it no questions asked. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress.
Same thing happened to me today. My phone randomly shut off and it won't boot. Its stuck at the Android logo. I wasn't messing around with it. Just normal use (Snapchat, youtube). I tried booting into recovery but it just goes back to the android screen LG logo and keeps looping. I at least want to wipe the phone before I send it (personal info).
Same here. Mine has serial number starting 505, was purchased back at end of 5/2015 with not problems until this. I filled out the warranty repair form on LGs website and they sent me an RMA with label to get it fixed. I sent it in, they sent it back, and the only thing I see is on one sheet they printed out and included in the package said 'replaced board'. However, when I started up the phone it looked like new initialization with xx of yy apps initializing and then it began bootlooping with the LG splash screen. So frustrating!
So, this time I contacted t-mobile via their online chat, and did a warranty exchange through them. They will send me a replacement LG G4 next day ups air and I will send them the defective one for them to claim warranty themselves. We'll see where this goes. I might just take the replacement unit and do a tmobile jump exchange to another device. I wanted to wait for the new line of HTC nexus phones that are rumored for this year (and was loving the LG 4 until it died), but I might need to just jump twice this year and go for something like the new Samsung S7 of new LG G5 now and then again switch to HTC nexus once that comes out.
Sent mine to LG, and they fixed under warranty with no questions asked. Got it back within a week. All good now.

Black Screen Of Death. Screen Goes Black And Persists Through Any Type Of Reboot

I have a Note 8 that i have never dropped, had this phone since release haven't rooted. However it is running one of the early Oreo Beta builds CQLB the phone is on Sprint. This has happened once before about 2 months ago and i can almost guarantee it happened in the same fashion as the most recent time a few days ago. It seems while receiving a call i go to reach in my pocket and hit several buttons pulling it out (because of the bulky case) then my screen goes completely black.
(This is where it starts to sound like the normal black screen issue that there are a thousand YouTube videos for)
The phone still makes noises for notifications, rings when calling and other noises like emails and low battery alarm. The screen however doesn't display anything whatsoever and has a blue led blinking.
(This is where it differs)
I've done every button combination i can think of with no avail.
-The regular restart button combination Vol Up + Power and hold for 7-10 secs,
-I've tried to boot into Recovery mode by guessing at what time the Samsung logo should be on the screen and pressing the vol button down several times
-I've tried to boot into safe mode by pressing the Bixby button, power and Vol Up and without the screen displaying anything i can of course not see if i was in Recovery or not.
The screen doesn't display a Samsung Logo, No sprint splash screen NOTHING. The last time this only lasted for about 3 hours and it suddenly came back up when being on the charger and restarted several times. This is now day 3 and after dozens of restarts nothing has worked, on or off the charger. I mentioned the Oreo build because maybe it's linked to that? i haven't had this issue on regular Nougat. ANY help is appreciated and thanks in advance
Try turning off Always on Display. It worked for me..
Actually your problem seems different, so doubt it will work

Kinda hard to do without anything displaying on the screen whatsoever, anyway i mailed it off yesterday for repair from Samsung. It was either that or a 2 hour drive to 12 Mile (Detroit) to bring it to the Ubreakifix store.
Unfortunately Sprint doesn't offer loner phones and can't activate any phone that is non sprint outside of some iPhones which sound a bit strange but now I'm out a phone for 9-11 days :silly:
Have you solved this issue? I have the same issue with my phone. It started happening to me even when I was on Nougat. Happens to me several times already. It goes black screen for about an hour to 3 hours then randomly get back to normal (get notification sounds, can receive call, etc). I am now on Oreo. Everything is stock. Never rooted my device as well.
Tried to bring to Samsung but all they did is 'Software Update' the device which is basically reinstalling the firmware and wipe everything. Service Center sucks and doesn't want to claim it is a defective unit.
My note 8 began experiencing this yesterday and after some frustrations and work around, I managed to pinpoint the issue.
Work around was go unlock phone and drag down taskbar, then click on systems and the system interface would open, after which I could press buttons on lower part of phone and clearscfeen to get back to homepage.
Problem was with Google. In my case I realised when I opened Google maps, the screen went black, so I went into applications and cleared the Google cache and Google maps cache. No 0roblems since.
Is it something with Snapdragon?

Moto G6 turns on, but shows nothing but a black screen

Hello, members. I come here to ask your help because i haven't found any solution for it anywhere on the internet. This is what happened: some days go (around a week or two) i updated my security patch to the last one released by Motorola and the phone was OK, pretty much the same. Then around five to six days ago the problem started: my phone started going off even with full battery, and so i had to hold high volume key + power key for the phone to boot again (this happened twice and was "solved" by the time) and so the headache started. Around four days ago i went to sleep and left my phone charging, then when i woke up some hours later it was completely off, showing nothing on the screen, then i removed the charger and turned it on, and for my surprise the phone booted saying Hello Moto, vibrating and all but the screen showed absolutely nothing but a black/grey screen, not even the boot logo was shown. Once the phone started i noticed the screen touch is working for turning on the flashlight, receiving or rejecting calls and all, but it is completely dark. I have already tried lighting up a flashlight in front of its light sensor to see if the ambient display was active, but it is not. I have also tried turning it on by holding low volume key + power for a lot of seconds and it resulted in no changes. I have tried turning it on by holding high volume key + power key, and even low + high + power keys simultaneously for tons of seconds and NADA. I'm completely desperated because i have found no solutions for it at all anywhere. My phone has not fallen to the ground and neither got watered, so i don't know what the **** has happened to it. It got like this completely out of a sudden, no one even touched it.
I had the same issue with my moto g6 and it happened a few days ago. i unlocked bootloader and rooted the phone and then installed some apps . it happened 2 times. First time happened i solved it. While it was charging screen went black and nothing appeared on screen but phone was working . i called from another phone and it was ringing. I thought an app was causing this issue so i uninstalled some apps that i installed when i got the phone. I turned it off and waited for a while to cool down ( i thought it was heated from over charging ). When i turned on it was ok everything came back. Week later it did the same issue but this time it was completely gone. I removed back cover to check battery . I disconnected the battery and then connected again , turned on the phone , screen was going on and off. After turning it on it stayed around 10 min. and then again everything gone. People who had similar issue are saying hard reset or fastboot mode etc. but nothing appears on screen so how can i do hard reset when i do not see anything on screen. Right now it is unusable . I cannot do nothing with the phone.
I fixed this problem on my G6+
The screen went black after the phone being in the hot sun for a while. I believe the problem was due to a poor connection to the screen because when I pressed hard at the very bottom of the screen the display flickered on. I then pressed very hard at several points along the bottom of the screen and the screen then started working constantly again. Not really a proper fix but I now have a working display again.

Did my phone just completely die ?

Hello dear community,
Something really strange happened with my device about 1.5 years ago, but since I still keep it in my house, I can't help but wonder what happened and is it fixable.
So, the story: In some sunny day in July/August of 2020 I was browsing through my device, then I locked the screen and few seconds later I remember that I want to check something, so I pull the phone out of my pocket, use my fingerprint or face to unlock it, then just during the screen unlock animation (that takes ~1 second to "expand"), the device froze halfway through and would become unresponsive. By that I mean that the touch did not work, nor the Power/Vol/Bixby buttons. The phone heated up so much that in the span of a few seconds, the metal frame got so hot that it burned the skin of my hard, then a few more seconds after, the screen went black. This was the last time the device had worked in any way.
What have I tried to do to ressurect it:
Turn it on via the power button
Plug it in a PC with Odin - Odin did not pick-up the device
Let it charge overnight
Any possible button combination to get to various screens (fastboot, etc)
What I believe happened: Since I was running a custom ROM I believe that when I unlocked the device, something went wrong in the code and it caused the device to freeze and the heat was produced by frying the SoC or something else. Taking the back glass did not show any visible (and smellable) damage.
What do you think ? Is there something that you can suggest me to try to bring the device back to life ?
Thanks in advance!
If you can't get into fastboot, download mode, recovery mode, etc. Then your phone is probably - in my experience - subject to a physical repair.
