i have had my device rooted since the week i got it in october successfully, no issues. when i got the phone it was on the oi6 firmware, rooted it and put MOAR rom on it, no issues. then on the 23rd the day before i was going to go out of town i changed my primary google account password on my device, and for some reason i couldnt tell you why other than it didnt seem that it would be of any significance that OEM UNLOCK option was enabled so i turned it off not thinking anything of it, and right after i reboot the phone i found myself in a bootloop. only going to samsung galaxy note 5 powered by android with little red writing at top that says custom binary blocked by FRP lock. so i did some research and it became obvious what my issue was that the oem unlock should never had been touched. from what i figure, but that didnt validate why i was never given the chance to actually verify my account being that the device hasnt booted back into the os or any screen other than the splash screen i mentioned and download mode. thats the only two things i can access my download screen reads this

i have tried flashing stock oi6, ive tried PIT file for oi6 ive gotten errors starting from couldnt open com port ehich seems to vary from the different versions of odin more or less, ive gotten complete write fail error, ive gotten COULDNT GET PIT FOR MAPPING as well as THERE IS NO PIT, and so i tried flashing one andit failed or just wouldnt go through, i mean ive just about ran the well dry as far as what ive read to do. Seems this guy got his working
Try use Samsung KIES (or Samsung Smart Switch) on Windows PC to flash/restore your firmware. I've never had to this way though.
And BTW. This is not a "hard brick", so your thread title is misleading. It's "soft"...

I'm sorry, this is where my help ends.
Awfully suspicious if you can't find your serial number.
They all come on the sticker that seals the two halves of the box. This is standard from Samsung.
And you're in the wrong forum. .

mate, its really nothing to worry about, it isnt hard bricked,
i had the exam same issue, that oem lock can be a real pain in the arse,
all you need to do is download the firmware, and i mean not just the same android version, but the same, as in oc1 ok1, what ever version you were rocking,
in my case it was the latest firmware available on sammobile,
and flash it via odin,
after that you must wipe cache, data, and factory reset to be a able to use your phone,
once booted,
you can login with you google account, enable oem unlock from dev mode, and install custom recovery and do what you do from there.
cheers

So long as you are using genuine Samsung firmware or smart switch you do not need OEM unlocked.
If Odin is not recognizing your phone something has gone wrong with either your drivers or your phone is in a bad state.
Power down your phone, if you have to because it is restarting, catch it so you get back into download mode.
Then follow these steps exactly as they are laid out.
Open Smart Switch, click MORE, click Emergency software recovery and initialization, click device initialization, type in your model number using caps and dashes such as SM-N9200 or whatever your device is, then input your serial number again using caps for all the letters in your SN, finally connect your phone to your PC and continue with the prompts from Smart Switch.
The problem is since you have a carrier version, smart switch may not work. There was a guy who said it would not work for an AT&T phone.
Good luck.
Edit: I checked in smart switch using the sprint model number and it took it so you should be good to go.

yes i can get it in download mode ive installed the drivers from samsung website for the note 5, and installed them. is there other drivers i should install fgor it to recognize it? i also am successful in getting smart switch to recognize the SM-N920P for my phone model but i am unclear on how to obtain the serial number that smart switch wants. ive tried the dec hex the imei esn hex and the spc none of which it accepts. i have the box and it doesnt say serial number anywhere so im lost when i get to that point

That is a problem then because you need that number. It should be labeled SN and should be a mix of letters and numbers. Perhaps sprint keeps those records on file.
Good luck.
I bought a second hand galaxy note 5, on the back cover of the phone the model is written SM-N920C but in download mode is written SM-N920d ! Nevertheless when I check the model at "setting/about the device" the model was SM-N920I
The problem started when my note 5 was flashed with venom rom then I accidentally formated all system files so the phone stuck in Android logo, I tried to flash the phone using Odin and SM-N920c but Odin said FAILED just when I click start. Now the phone is off for the battery is dead and it couldn't be charged , please help me to find the right flash and is there any way to flash it without download mood?
Use Kies and do an emergency recovery. It'll also be able to determine the actual model number. You probably didn't update the bootloader when usong Venom or something. Usually you want to update to the official marahmallow and then flash after that.

Thanks for your comment, I did that already but kies does not support emergency recovery for Note 5 SM-N920c!
I've used it once on my 920c when I initially messed something up. You may need to invoke download mode. Turn the phone off and hold home, volume down and power.
Oh, and there's a modern version of kies which works for modern Samsung phones only.
Did you install a custom recovery immediately after rooting? Always do this first.

N920d or N9200?
In your case, I would go with what is mentioned in the download mode since the back glass can be replaced with another model and ROM flashing can alter model # sometimes.
PS: you need to be sure that it was an original Note 5, not just a copy. I'd recommend taking it to the nearest service center to have it checked out.

Because that firmware does not exist.
It's either 920C or 920CD (for dual-sim) or 9200 for Chinese models.
The first two will have similar firmwares but the 9200 uses different one.
Have you verified exactly which model it is? What does Kies mention when you connect?

As per my search on google, the n920D is Docomo variant.
I haven't been able to find the stock firmware anywhere as of yet.
Flash a custom recovery for your variant (TWRP>others) and then flash a custome ROM that is compatible with 920D.
There must be some on XDA itself.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate your great efforts my friend. The problem still the same, no stock firmware for N920D
So i´ve been locked in the KG State Prenormal for about 2 months now, two weeks of it i kept the phone connected without rebooting or removing the SIM...
I´m on my limit right now, just a few sights of the word "Prenormal" away of smashing this pieceof sh*t (1000 euros piece of...) against a wall... the use of an hammer also crossed my mind...
I´m about to give up, and sell this pos to buy a phone that actually would belong to me and not to the brand that sold me... Cause Samsung is NOT that brand, also i might never buy anything from these control freaks psichos again... anyway i digress...
After testing all guides i could find, flashed several ROMs i realized that the mistake i made was to update to binary 4... now i´m stuck...
Anyway, after all this, i stumbled upon this file "COMBINATION_FAC_FA81_N960FXXU4ASJ2_FACFAC_CL13996359_QB26885160_REV00_user_mid_noship.tar" that i actualy can flash, but can´t do much else with it...
It has binary 4 and is a very slimed down version of Oreo 8.1. I can install custom binaries, including TWRP, but can´t boot to it.. the phone just reboots.
I can even flash the magisk_patched AP i got, but then the phone wont boot at all. Can´t overlapped it with my stock rom cause then i got the error that the binaries are mixed up...
Not even with the Oreo ROM cause the binaries wont match...
Once in the OS i can access lots of hardware tools, but can´t install any apk...
So i wonder, What is this crap for? How can i use this?
Anyone here used a Combination file before? For what?
As i guess i have a few more tries before i just smash this phone, any new tips regarding the KG issue are also welcome.
Special thanks to bober10113 for the incredible patience he has proven to have...
Also to Mr. Ketan, that despite his very detailed and awesome guides, i just can´t seem to get rid of this crap... Thank you for all your amazing work that certainly saved a lot of other users... just not me...
And people, DON´T GIVE REMOTE ACCESS TO YOUR PC TO ANYONE CLAIMING THAT HE CAN HELP YOU.... You know who you are! Scammer!
No Hangouts chats! If this sorry excuse for a human had a real solution, he should share it with the community, not pull you over aside...

Thanks for replying
Can you explain HOW can make a downgrade of fw?
I updated to version U4, and at this moment can´t flash fw U3, because Samsung...
I tried to to flash U3 fw over this Combination file, but always got the error "...Device 4 Binaries 3..." even without the BL file on Odin.
In fact, even when flashed individually, BL, AP, CP and CSC give that error.
So, how can this file help me?

Hello there, I'm stuck with a situation and I can't fix the phone.
I live in Canada and I bought the phone here (Canadian software version and also unlocked) and gave it to a relative who lives in the USA to use. Recently, she has a firmware update notification from her phone, however, it always gets stuck at 28%, and the download fails. So she plugged the s10 device into her computer and used Smart Switch to download the new firmware. After she finished downloading it, she clicked to install the new firmware on her phone. That's when the problem starts... She got stuck on this screen forever and she even tried to soft reset/restart the phone but it just went back to that screen.
What I think happened was it's a Canadian version phone but the new firmware is the US version and it tried to install and crashed.
Could anyone give me some advice on fixing this problem?

for sure man, i sometimes skip the long winded Odin stuff because ive typed out like 3 paragraphs of Odin instructions and the person i was replying to already knew 75% of what i just typed LOL
aaaaanyways, downloading Odin from a trusted source isnt an issue. Ive downloaded soooo many versions of Odin over the years and from so many different places, i cant imagine an infected Odin. Im sure they exist, but ive never seen one. ive got Odin from here before, and it was fine. Also, yes, youd definitely want to download the canadian version of it. You should be able to flash the U1 version (fully unlocked) so long as you have a snapdragon processor, but youd need whats called "Patched Odin" to do it. The U1 thing is kind of a tangent, but youll find out that there are a TON of rabbit holes you can find yourself in from time to time. The best thing to do is to just flash the FW for the model of phone you own unless you plan on tinkering. sammobile.com/firmwares is where you want to search for the FW and samfirm is an exe youre going to want to use to actually download the FW itself. Samfirm downloads it literally 5x faster.

yep. sorry, i forgot to mention that part. Zero worry tho, its just a thing caused by the bootloader that your phone was most recently on being too new for the FW youre trying to flash. Thats whats causing the binary error, the binary currently installed is greater than the one youre trying to install so the phone wont physically allow it. Its not even a software thing, it gets hard coded. Anyways, get the most current one and reflash. It wont fail again with the same reason on the newest firmware, but if it does fail, try a different cable, download the file again. it might have corrupted during the download. If youre not using patched Odin, you literally cant screw it up so badly you cant recover it

yep, when flashing the 4 parts of the FW, the home_csc will not wipe your userdata, csc will factory reset. let us know if you run into trouble, but you shouldnt have any issues. it sounds like you got this
Thank you so so much! I fixed the phone and it works now. For future firmware updates, I have to do this every time? Is there any option that i can change my firmware permanently to the US version so that I can get auto-update on the phone instead of using ODIN every time?

Good evening, I bought a second hand Note 9 which rooted, I tried to unroot, it crashed, it did not turn on and remained BLOCKED on SAMSUNG. I downloaded firmware which are in android 8.1 -9 and 10. Nothing. Bad manipulation, a cable that comes loose and voila that nothing works. I tried the emergency RECOVERY with Smart Switch, nothing. I tried again through odin I got the error message on the attached capture (sw rev check fail bootloader device 3 binary). Help me please. thank you in advance

Well, have you any knowledge about how to flash firmware and the right choice file decision on Odin mode, chose latest Android 10 by the way, if you know the device origin, then chose that firmware origins, try to find out what model phone is that, is it SM-N960F, SM-N960N or what, then chose that kind of firmware to flash.
The phone will not let you flash SM-N960N on device SM-N960F, and if you can't find out what model phone is, then chose several different firmware's one by one till it succeed.
