Just a friendly reminder that on any internet forum, it's helpful and courteous to use an informative subject line. That way, people can tell at a glance which threads they want to read or contribute to, and they can more easily find their way back to specific threads later. Imagine if all the subject lines were like "I need help", "Has anyone seen this?", "Angry and frustrated", "I have a question", etc. They'd all be indistinguishable. A descriptive subject line may also get you faster and better replies.

I suggest flashing the pit file too to re-partition the device. Just use the pit tab in odin. I pulled this one from ARH4 but the pit is the same on all Snapdragon versions.

Some background info would be nice.
yeah I had this same problem when i was on an earlier version of CM experimental build, the problem for me was that it would do what i would call a soft reboot, where the android loading screen would appear and load for a couple seconds then go back to the home screen.
I found this problem out in the browser when i was trying to go back to the prvious pagr it would "reset" I dont know the cause but maybe you should get a Log of the error or when this happens and post it here or send to Cyanogen
Yeah some more background information would help us assit you with the issue. If possible create a signature with information about the ROM you use and any settings.

Somehow my toddler managed to use the power and volume keys to in just the right order to factory reset my Droid Turbo XT1254 running android 4.4.4. I've already spoken with Verizon and Motorola and their answer is you should have used our security risk laden Clouds. We can't and or won't help you.
When I realized what had happened I made sure not to even set up the phone or install anything. I also put the phone in airplane mode to avoid/minimize any random downloads or writing.
Question 1:
After trying 3 pieces of recovery software and 8+hours of research I have learned that after android 4.2.* that when they removed the USB Mass Transfer option that normal recovery software will not help anyone with a Droid Turbo unless the phone is rooted. Is this correct?
Question 2:
IF my only option is to root the phone (I have never done this but my husband has), given that I have made sure not to write anything to phone since reset, what are my chances of recovering my pictures? Some or all?
Question 3:
Are there ways to "minimally root" a phone so as to maximize recovery of my pictures?
I'd say I'm half a techie with a background in data analysis and many year working with large databases on linux systems (though its been ten years) so I'm just dangerous enough to maybe save my data with some help. *sigh*
Thanks in advance,
Bronwyn
PS Ive installed the ADB drivers and am trying to figure out where to go from there.
i think you are pretty much ****ed, i dont think you can recover anything after a wipe from recovery even if you root to try to recovery something, chances are that will be corrupt or you'll get less than 10% of data. im sorry.
Thank you for taking the time to reply and your kindness. *sigh* Yes, all my reading has lead me to the same conclusion.

Did you try http://www.jihosoft.com/recover-data/recover-data-after-factory-reset.html btw you didn't backup to your Google account?
That's why it has a super case on it. That's why I had it locked. But she is 2.5 and pulled it out of Mommy's purse. She is a fast little button pusher. I had no idea it was sooooo easy to factory reset a phone. When I read how to do it, Motorola lost me as a customer. You only have to hold the 2 buttons down for 3 seconds and hit two buttons two more times. Poor engineering for the real world.

The iCult is no better. It seems like we have to drink the Kool-Aid sooner or later... we just have to decide on the flavor, and Apple isn't my personal choice.
(Yes, Mickeysoft is trying to get back into the game with Windows 10 for phones, but they're no better, and BlackBerry still seems to be hovering on the brink of extinction, but they aren't major players right now.)
Password wanted by TWRP and I rooted my phone with Click To Root, I never gave them a password and when I try to do a Factory reset their screen comes up. to wipe, restore, and other utilities such as that. As far as the pass word goes I cant remember that and don't ever put one in just for this reason. Click to root support sucks because if I want to chat with an analyst it cost like $34.00 and they have a email support which I have heard nothing back from. also my screen is saying I have an available system update, I don't know if this has anything to do with the password?

You need to give more details bud. We are not mediums here.
Which version of the phone do you have? Where did you buy it? Rooted, non-rooted? What weird things, other than taking screenshots? How exactly do you understand that it is taking screenshots, does it give you a notification or do they just appear in the gallery? How often does it happen, is it random or does it also happen when you do certain tasks?
If you need help with such a potentially complicated issue, you need to give as many details as possible so people can help you without guessing everything.
On Android 9 and above it's almost impossible to have an embedded rootkit that a factory reset won't kill. On 8 and below it is.
So it's something you installed (including updates), or that's living in your data or one of the factory installed apps. Fun times

That's complete overkill. More than likely a factory reset is all that's needed... and greater care when downloading.
Pre-Pie OS's are susceptible to rootkits that can breached protected partitions but not the more modern Android versions if I remember correctly.
This is an example of one that requires a reflash to totally wipe it from the phone:

I disagree, tot overkill at all if its a persistent malware. Plus if you want peace of mind it is about as simple of a process as loading the factory ROM. Why take a risk?

Be prepared and never sync all your backup copies at the same time, stagger the syncing to help avoid the possibility of all copies being compromised.

When I typed that original post I was using the phone and the keyboard kept screwing up and I was exhausted. I have factory reset the phone. The strange things that were happening like when I'd hit my recent apps tab at the bottom, if open say Ebay app then Chrome. I'd hit the recent and it would show gallery and settings. Since the factory reset it has still been taking screenshots. I've only had this phone about 20 days and got it at bestbuy. It's over the 15 day period to just take it back but hadn't been incredibly long so I guess we will see what they say. I dont do alot of app downloading or visit a bunch of websites and so on so I have no clue how this happened. Here's the real kicker, this stuff is also happening on my wife's phone (a11) I am honestly thinking about throwing the a11 in the trash and trying to get this one replaced. It's so damn frustrating it's caused arguments because I'm the one who will spend time learning how to do stuff with this. Like how to use everything the phone is capable of and can look in the settings and see that the "tracking device" in the settings that can UNLOCK YOUR PHONE, ACCESS YOUR CONTACTS" is the find my phone app that you installed from Samsung. So of course I am a "hacker" and really know nothing about this crap. And she's the person who will download every survey and shopping app she can find. So this is where I am with it idk what else to do.

Try something bud, in the settings there is the palm swipe capture option. When you find it try and disable it and see if the issue persists. If your phone has no virus, it might have some issue with the gestures or the screen and it might be getting mistaken that you are trying to make a screenshot.
And regarding your wife, you gotta sit her down, smash on the table with your hand so you can get her attention for a bit, and show her some videos about security and the risks involved with ignorant behaviors in the digital world.
Good luck.

I have the palm swipe off. She reset hers and says it's still doing "weird stuff" but this has been such an extreme issue with us that I can't and won't touch her phone. Because even with her sitting there watching me if I'm going through **** too fast for her to see exactly what's happening it's like I'm asked to slow down and I try to... Then she's will be like well what's this and start touching **** on the screen and u lost where I was in the first place because I then have to explain something that was just there.. Like if I'm in running processes and it's like WHATS THAT. And it will be a system operation that she read somewhere is "a concern for vulnerability" and doesn't understand that it doesn't mean that because that's there that it's a problem.. It's there normally and it is possible that's a way for security to be compromised.. Hopefully you can see the pattern I'm going in..... I am pretty good with this stuff for a power user. I know what oden is.. I know what a ROM is and stuff but I have never actually loaded my own ROM on a phone. And the fact that I sort of understand some of this is working to a huge disadvantage because it's like.. Well you know how to do this stuff so no wonder she's concerned.. When in fact I don't know how to do this stuff.. I made (foolishly) the comment when I was showing a process used by find my phone to her and my sister... The fact that I just showed you this process running that your asking me about you're just viewing it in a different place shows that if I wanted to track you I'd do it and you'd be too stupid to ever find out... And it was just frustration.. I meant Id just look at your Google history or something along that mannor.. Anyways I'm gonna be heading to bestbuy to see what they say.. As far as her phone is concerned I'd rather just spend the 200 bucks and throw it in the trash. I can't do that with the s21 so this is where I am with all this. I wad actually told by my family not to worry about it.. So what if someone steals your bank info it will be fraud and you won't be responsible for it anyway.. So just forget about it and use it....and here I am
This isn't rocket science... or a soap opera
Do a factory reset then change your Google account password.
Don't load anything until it's verified to be functioning ok*.
Then be careful what you load.
*If that fails reflash the firmware.

I am ready to do this if needed. I know this isn't a major thing to do but I've never actually done it and don't know where to get my factory ROM for this on my carrier and all of that good stuff. And do I need a computer to do this with oden or can that be done completely on the phone. I am not worried about anything on here I CA. Re-download apps and photos and stuff are backed up ill just start over

omg.
my friend just seen my pattern when i unlocked my phone so i decided to change my pattern (it had been a real long time since i changed it anyway) so i did it.
i cant remember what i changed it to.
i actually changed it 2x but the first pattern i thought was too easy so i changed it again.
i didnt make it any harder as in more dots to complete the pattern but hard enough i dont remember it.
im on a s21 ultra of course.
is there a limit on how many failed attempts i can do?
so far i think im under 10 but it does make me wait 30secs alot.
if there is an unlimited amount i think i will guess it but if there is a finite i dont want to mess it up and do a factory reset or erase.
i have alot of my grandbabies pics and videos on there.
if there is a way to bypass it please tell me.
i know my google acct on computer etc... thats not a problem and that is the same acct on my phone.

unless you have an unlocked bootloader I don't know that there's anything that can be done. I would just get them all wrong at this point and see if it let's you reset it with a good account. If you BL is unlocked you could boot into a custom recovery and wipe the security file.

Can only be done if you have find my device enabled and have an active internet connection in the phone tho
Step 1. Open the internet browser on your notebook and input the following website
address: https://findmymobile.samsung.com, click on the Sign in button and input your login credentials of your Samsung account, then click on Sign in button once more.
image to login to find my mobile web page
Step 2. The mobile device registered under your Samsung account will appear on the right-side of the screen. If you have multiple devices registered under the same Samsung account, make sure you select the device that needs to be remotely unlocked. Refer to the image below and click on the Unlock icon to unlock your device.
image after login to find my mobile web page
Step 3. Once you click on Unlock, a pop-up window will appear asking to verify the password of your Samsung account. After you input your password, click on the NEXT button, the pop-up window will automatically close and another pop-up window will appear with the result of remotely unlocking your device

address: https://findmymobile.samsung.com, click on the Sign in button and input your login credentials of your Samsung account, then click on Sign in button once more.

Step 2. The mobile device registered under your Samsung account will appear on the right-side of the screen. If you have multiple devices registered under the same Samsung account, make sure you select the device that needs to be remotely unlocked. Refer to the image below and click on the Unlock icon to unlock your device.

Step 3. Once you click on Unlock, a pop-up window will appear asking to verify the password of your Samsung account. After you input your password, click on the NEXT button, the pop-up window will automatically close and another pop-up window will appear with the result of remotely unlocking your device

Well, at this point you probably need to reset the phone, as you didn't link your Samsung account.
There actually isn't any way to recover the data Unless you can guess the pattern again.
I don't know if Samsung themselves would unlock the phone if you took it to the support center providing proof that you own the phone, but that could get your data back idk
In my opinion it is worth a try in this case

Depends if you had that option enabled in settings, by default it is disabled

omg.
my friend just seen my pattern when i unlocked my phone so i decided to change my pattern (it had been a real long time since i changed it anyway) so i did it.
i cant remember what i changed it to.
i actually changed it 2x but the first pattern i thought was too easy so i changed it again.
i didnt make it any harder as in more dots to complete the pattern but hard enough i dont remember it.
im on a s21 ultra of course.
is there a limit on how many failed attempts i can do?
so far i think im under 10 but it does make me wait 30secs alot.
if there is an unlimited amount i think i will guess it but if there is a finite i dont want to mess it up and do a factory reset or erase.
i have alot of my grandbabies pics and videos on there.
if there is a way to bypass it please tell me.
i know my google acct on computer etc... thats not a problem and that is the same acct on my phone.

Your only solution is too wipe your phone. So take better care next time and chalk this one up to experience

Probably 3 then a waiting time, but it's probably more easier to take it to Samsung and get them to unlock it for you, since you own the phone they can do it.

i live in the country. i dont think there is a samsung store even in my state. im in iowa in usa
Samsung can't unlock it... pretty sure.
Once you set a lock screen the security is very good, too good. Sleep on it to see if the pattern comes to you... you still remember it.
That failing, suck it up. It may have not been your fault at all, see below.
I never set a screen lock, 2x tap on/off.
Never set a a bios password.
And most importantly never encrypt data backup hdds, etc.
You are the one most likely to get locked out... lesson learned the hard way.
A firmware failure, or external forces beyond your control (high energy particles of cosmic origin can do it*) can put you in a no win situation once you set an eccess password. While if you hadn't you likely wouldn't be locked out. I had a laptop bios lock me out, the password was simple a simple "S" even years latter I remember it... but the bios doesn't!
*this isn't a joke. Flying or being at higher elevations increases the risk. While it is slight when under the protection of the ionosphere it's still a random failure factor. One high energy particle can change the value of a flash memory cell without damaging it. The data however is corrupted unless redundantly backup which is one reason why spacecraft use at least 3 redundant computers.

omg wut ._.
Even if u hard reset, u will be asked to input your Samsung account and password, anf even with out knowing the pattern you have the option of putting in your PIN.
If you don't know your own PIN code then, something Is wrong!
