You need to give more details bud. We are not mediums here.
Which version of the phone do you have? Where did you buy it? Rooted, non-rooted? What weird things, other than taking screenshots? How exactly do you understand that it is taking screenshots, does it give you a notification or do they just appear in the gallery? How often does it happen, is it random or does it also happen when you do certain tasks?
If you need help with such a potentially complicated issue, you need to give as many details as possible so people can help you without guessing everything.
On Android 9 and above it's almost impossible to have an embedded rootkit that a factory reset won't kill. On 8 and below it is.
So it's something you installed (including updates), or that's living in your data or one of the factory installed apps. Fun times

That's complete overkill. More than likely a factory reset is all that's needed... and greater care when downloading.
Pre-Pie OS's are susceptible to rootkits that can breached protected partitions but not the more modern Android versions if I remember correctly.
This is an example of one that requires a reflash to totally wipe it from the phone:

I disagree, tot overkill at all if its a persistent malware. Plus if you want peace of mind it is about as simple of a process as loading the factory ROM. Why take a risk?
OP hasn't checked into this thread after the initial message. Maybe the issue has been solved.
I think we can stop trying to break our heads until he/she reappears and joins the conversation.

Be prepared and never sync all your backup copies at the same time, stagger the syncing to help avoid the possibility of all copies being compromised.

When I typed that original post I was using the phone and the keyboard kept screwing up and I was exhausted. I have factory reset the phone. The strange things that were happening like when I'd hit my recent apps tab at the bottom, if open say Ebay app then Chrome. I'd hit the recent and it would show gallery and settings. Since the factory reset it has still been taking screenshots. I've only had this phone about 20 days and got it at bestbuy. It's over the 15 day period to just take it back but hadn't been incredibly long so I guess we will see what they say. I dont do alot of app downloading or visit a bunch of websites and so on so I have no clue how this happened. Here's the real kicker, this stuff is also happening on my wife's phone (a11) I am honestly thinking about throwing the a11 in the trash and trying to get this one replaced. It's so damn frustrating it's caused arguments because I'm the one who will spend time learning how to do stuff with this. Like how to use everything the phone is capable of and can look in the settings and see that the "tracking device" in the settings that can UNLOCK YOUR PHONE, ACCESS YOUR CONTACTS" is the find my phone app that you installed from Samsung. So of course I am a "hacker" and really know nothing about this crap. And she's the person who will download every survey and shopping app she can find. So this is where I am with it idk what else to do.

Try something bud, in the settings there is the palm swipe capture option. When you find it try and disable it and see if the issue persists. If your phone has no virus, it might have some issue with the gestures or the screen and it might be getting mistaken that you are trying to make a screenshot.
And regarding your wife, you gotta sit her down, smash on the table with your hand so you can get her attention for a bit, and show her some videos about security and the risks involved with ignorant behaviors in the digital world.
Good luck.

I have the palm swipe off. She reset hers and says it's still doing "weird stuff" but this has been such an extreme issue with us that I can't and won't touch her phone. Because even with her sitting there watching me if I'm going through **** too fast for her to see exactly what's happening it's like I'm asked to slow down and I try to... Then she's will be like well what's this and start touching **** on the screen and u lost where I was in the first place because I then have to explain something that was just there.. Like if I'm in running processes and it's like WHATS THAT. And it will be a system operation that she read somewhere is "a concern for vulnerability" and doesn't understand that it doesn't mean that because that's there that it's a problem.. It's there normally and it is possible that's a way for security to be compromised.. Hopefully you can see the pattern I'm going in..... I am pretty good with this stuff for a power user. I know what oden is.. I know what a ROM is and stuff but I have never actually loaded my own ROM on a phone. And the fact that I sort of understand some of this is working to a huge disadvantage because it's like.. Well you know how to do this stuff so no wonder she's concerned.. When in fact I don't know how to do this stuff.. I made (foolishly) the comment when I was showing a process used by find my phone to her and my sister... The fact that I just showed you this process running that your asking me about you're just viewing it in a different place shows that if I wanted to track you I'd do it and you'd be too stupid to ever find out... And it was just frustration.. I meant Id just look at your Google history or something along that mannor.. Anyways I'm gonna be heading to bestbuy to see what they say.. As far as her phone is concerned I'd rather just spend the 200 bucks and throw it in the trash. I can't do that with the s21 so this is where I am with all this. I wad actually told by my family not to worry about it.. So what if someone steals your bank info it will be fraud and you won't be responsible for it anyway.. So just forget about it and use it....and here I am
This isn't rocket science... or a soap opera
Do a factory reset then change your Google account password.
Don't load anything until it's verified to be functioning ok*.
Then be careful what you load.
*If that fails reflash the firmware.

I am ready to do this if needed. I know this isn't a major thing to do but I've never actually done it and don't know where to get my factory ROM for this on my carrier and all of that good stuff. And do I need a computer to do this with oden or can that be done completely on the phone. I am not worried about anything on here I CA. Re-download apps and photos and stuff are backed up ill just start over

So, I have successfully bricked my phone (not by choice). I am a long time WinMo user and I have never even come close to bricking a phone. Today was exactly one week from when I bought my first android phone and I bricked it.(not blaming android, I love android)
I have tried EVERYTHING, to no avail.
My phone is on the phone++!++computer screen.
So, first thing tomorrow morning, I am headed to the AT&T store for replacement (I will act dumb and get the phone).
My questions are -
1.Will my information (contacts, emails, etc.) on the phone be checked or in any way violated?
2.If they do find out that I had rooted the phone, after I have already walked out of the store, can they do anything about it?
1: Yes, the contacts and all other data on the phone itself is still there, and will all still be there when Samsung / AT&T *un-bricks* the phone.
2: They "could", but I am not knowledgable enough to know if they "will".
Or, save yourself the hassle, and the negative moral karma, and read here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
I've intentionally (with much failure), tried to "break" the phone so that I'd know how to fix it.
The above linked post will not only recover you from your "phone++!++computer" issue, but actually works so far as the dreaded "orange hex dump".

I have tried everything. I don't want to return this phone, but there is no option left.
None of the methods work and I am pretty experienced in this stuff. So, its not that I am messing up on the methods, its just that there was a batch of phones that had the key combos disabled.
Once you get the new phone there is nothing they can do because they have already agreed to replace it. All they do with it is send it off to be refurbished and it is completely wiped clean. I agree with the others that you have not tried *everything* because I have yet to read a post on any forum about a legitimate bricking of this phone.

I can tell you that by flashing ONLY the pit file in odin another user and myself were able to succesfully make the phone unresponsive to all buttons, all methods and all pulls of the battery. it literally turned into a brick...then again i would call this an illegitimate method after realized how simple it is now. as long as i can get power to the phone thou i have to agree ive been able to save it every time now

Seriously?
I was up for six hours last night trying to fix the damn thing. I don't want to replace the phone just because I want to beat the system. I have never ran into problems when I am modding. I always figure it out, but when the phone is absolutely unresponsive to all keys, what am I going to do?
Anyways, this thread can be closed now.
That same screen (http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/8420/hum1e0.jpg) happened to me yesterday. I thought I had tried all of the key combos but I missed one.

I hope if you have not tried that yet, that it will work for you and save you the hassle of going to ATT.

I tried that too, nothing. I got it exchanged. No hassle.
AT&T store rep just said the phone will be factory reset and there is nothing to it.
Anyway thanks for the help folks, really appreciate it.
Lets hope, I don't bust this one because the phone I just got is also impervious to key combos. I tried getting into recovery (just for the heck of it), it didnt work with the keys, had to do it with "adb reboot recovery".
I am running a Custom ROM for a while and everything had been going smoothly. Last night I installed the Beta Version of Norton Utilities which I found on the Market and my phone started locking up and having Forced Closures. Though it might have been something all the sudden occurring in the ROM or the Kernel that caused this I don't think it was so I was wondering can an App mess up your phone?
Thanks

I tried to uninstall it but I not 100% sure it did. I use Tibackup and it would lockup when I did uninstall. I did a Force Close and Reboot and though it don't see the App listed anymore I am not 100% sure if everything from the App was removed. I then tried to Restore my Data and Apps with Full Tibackup Restore and my phone went into Reboot Loop.

Yes although I forget the app
I am sure a lot of this had to do with me having a Custom Rom and testing a "Beta" App. I should have known better esp. since it was "Norton's Product" and the experiences I have had with them on a PC and how they truly "invade" a system.....

Norton
Where was time when Norton was king. Symantec was the downfall of Norton.
Thanks for your post........as I hear more about viruses and smartphones, I have been wondering if I need some kind of protection? Maybe not.......
i have yet to find an antivirus program that wasn't more of a virus than the viruses it protects against. i refuse to run them on my home computer or my phone. they screw things up and give you more popup windows than the internet did a couple of years ago before browsers started blocking them. but that is just me do what you must to keep your stuff safe. as for the app wrecking android i had one on my backflip that was causing havoc but i too forget what it was.
I was a Big Norton's fan on my PC back when Norton's first appeared but as the more and more things Norton/Symantec added the worse the product got it was like the Protection it provided was worse than having a Virus. The only thing I am running on my phone that seems to add some protection is the app called 'Lookout". I started using this app as I way to find my phone if I missed placed it. I guess they have updated it because I notice now that when I add a new app Lookout does some sort of scan and it says that the new app is safe. I don't know what it is looking at when it does the Scan since I didn't make any setting changes to evoke this Scan. BTW I am using Free Lookout version.

LOL stole the words right out of my mouth!
I know were getting close to needing AV for our phones - but the day I install Norton on a LINUX device - I will commit seppuku.
Somehow my toddler managed to use the power and volume keys to in just the right order to factory reset my Droid Turbo XT1254 running android 4.4.4. I've already spoken with Verizon and Motorola and their answer is you should have used our security risk laden Clouds. We can't and or won't help you.
When I realized what had happened I made sure not to even set up the phone or install anything. I also put the phone in airplane mode to avoid/minimize any random downloads or writing.
Question 1:
After trying 3 pieces of recovery software and 8+hours of research I have learned that after android 4.2.* that when they removed the USB Mass Transfer option that normal recovery software will not help anyone with a Droid Turbo unless the phone is rooted. Is this correct?
Question 2:
IF my only option is to root the phone (I have never done this but my husband has), given that I have made sure not to write anything to phone since reset, what are my chances of recovering my pictures? Some or all?
Question 3:
Are there ways to "minimally root" a phone so as to maximize recovery of my pictures?
I'd say I'm half a techie with a background in data analysis and many year working with large databases on linux systems (though its been ten years) so I'm just dangerous enough to maybe save my data with some help. *sigh*
Thanks in advance,
Bronwyn
PS Ive installed the ADB drivers and am trying to figure out where to go from there.
i think you are pretty much ****ed, i dont think you can recover anything after a wipe from recovery even if you root to try to recovery something, chances are that will be corrupt or you'll get less than 10% of data. im sorry.
Thank you for taking the time to reply and your kindness. *sigh* Yes, all my reading has lead me to the same conclusion.

That's why it has a super case on it. That's why I had it locked. But she is 2.5 and pulled it out of Mommy's purse. She is a fast little button pusher. I had no idea it was sooooo easy to factory reset a phone. When I read how to do it, Motorola lost me as a customer. You only have to hold the 2 buttons down for 3 seconds and hit two buttons two more times. Poor engineering for the real world.

Just a friendly reminder that on any internet forum, it's helpful and courteous to use an informative subject line. That way, people can tell at a glance which threads they want to read or contribute to, and they can more easily find their way back to specific threads later. Imagine if all the subject lines were like "I need help", "Has anyone seen this?", "Angry and frustrated", "I have a question", etc. They'd all be indistinguishable. A descriptive subject line may also get you faster and better replies.

Sammobile or updato.com (updato is faster). You could also use the SamFirm tool which is fast too.

I suggest flashing the pit file too to re-partition the device. Just use the pit tab in odin. I pulled this one from ARH4 but the pit is the same on all Snapdragon versions.

Once and and while my Pixel 5 reboots and gets stuck in a bootloop. It happens while I listen to music with YouTube Music on a bluetooth ear phones or search for updates on the Play Store or nothing at all. I have no idea what is causing this.
I suspect one app called ProCall Mobile but I can't really test for two reasons: 1st it happens to randomly, weeks without one, than two in a row, than nothing for a month, or for few days, 2nd I need the app for my job and can't just remove it for testing.
I'm really annoyed by this, I also can't reset the phone because of reasons. Any ideas how can I narrow it down?
Sounds like something is causing a kernel panic, and it's hard to say what. The best thing I could really recommend is a complete factory reflash, but that requires an unlocked bootloader. I believe there may be a way to use ADB and USB Debugging to get a log dump, but I have no idea how to do that or how to read it.

I fear you are right. I think I should set aside a few hours on the weekend to do that.

Nope. If it's your phone, you don't have to keep any app on it. I have never experienced bootlooping or forced reboot on P5. Ask them for a work phone or tablet. It's not like old phones are expensive.

Also nope. You can back the entire phone up on google, data reset and reinstall everything.
Try force stop and clear cache in app.
Uninstall reinstall app.
Remove all unused apps.
Check Battery Usage
Go to Dev Options and turn on System Tracing and other debuggin features. I highly doubt you will be able to figure it out from there, but it may help others.
