So...I just saw a commercial for the G1 from T-Mobile with the theme of curiosity. The last app example showed a gal asking "Are our fingerprints the same?".
What have we become and where is this train going to wreck?
I just want to view a PDF on my G1...

not that important but...
The girls are identical twins and they are wondering if their fingerprints are also identical.
I actually thought it was kind of interesting.

Yeah, I don't understand what's wrong or stupid about that question.
My Brother thought the device could read your fingerprint... I thought it would be cooler if it could but I understood that it was a question they were asking google. I typed in the one about "what is in a hot dog" and it autocompleted for me LOL then I had to open a page... I think it would have been cool for google to put those as codes to talk about the device. Like if someone enters that in it will tell them the answer then tell you about the G1 like a marketing ploy.

Except for fact that those marketing dollars would be wasted on people who've already purchased the device.
Not really... people seeing the commercial would see it as well when they type it in to google... not to mention those using the G1's at the store.

Finger Print anyone?
I know biowallet is on its way with this retna scanner but do you think the touch screen would be capable of recognising finger prints?
it would be awesome and have so much potential
the girl asked that question because it was her and her twin meaning she could search it on google and get the answer that was part of the whole commercial

The fact that everyone has their own unique fingerprint is what makes that a dumb question.

Nope, not possible. No touch screen in any phone on the market today is capable of recognizing a fingerprint.

As Black93300ZX said the touch screen can't, but biowallet uses the camera to scan the retina so maybe the camera could be used to scan fingerprints as well. I think people are going to look really stupid taking pictures of their eye.
they prolly wouldnt have to "take" the picture. it could be used in the same fashion as the barcode scanner is.
Whats the bets that with the retna scanner, the conversations of eye cancer will atleast triple! Just me?
i have been thinking that a programm turning your x1 into some sort of spy cam would be a coll idea. if you dont know what i mean by that:
it should for example be able to
-take photos at a user defined time interval
-set the camera resolution
-hide the camera screen on the display
-save the pics to a specified folder
-maybe start taking pics at a certain time
-etc
this would also make it possible to easily take a series of shots over the day or even week to see a plant growing or what so ever...
unfortunately i didt have the time to really get into wm programming but i also didnt want withhold my ideas from you all and maybe somebody interested could even try this out.
so let me know what you think, plz.

Poetry,
Or you know, take pictures of activities in which another person might not have consented to having their pictures taken .
I just personally feel that this program is seriously asking for legal troubles. And you'd be surprised as to how many sick, perverse people there are out there who will easily abuse this "program".
If you "really" want this program TC, make it yourself and use it yourself. Simple as that.

Yup, every thing he describes is more for taking naughty pictures than for plants. BTW, what's so embarrassing for being honest?
Key words:
1) Spy Cam
2) Hide the camera screen on the display
3) Maybe start taking pics at a certain time
Besides plants growing very very very very slow, taking one picture in 1 spot everyday is easy.
All you need is to keep your camera on a tripod and never change the angle or direction and take the daily pictures for 31 days or more.
Besides, if you want true high quality video with millions of frames you will need a professional camera that can record videos 24/7 and you would need to keep it plugged in 24/7.
This guy is either dumb or asking for a true spy scam software. Naughty boy.

yeouda,
And how exactly is this useful? This is not a real-time feed. I doubt it'd be useful if your baby has been murdered and then you watch the video of it happening (you'd obviously want to prevent it). Same goes for your house. Moreover, if your phone is sitting there recording stuff, how exactly are you going to communicate anyone? Purchase another phone? That sort of defeats the purpose of even buying a pocketpc to even begin with doesn't it?
Think people, think.
Cheers.

yeouda,
I hope someone walks up to you next time and asks you how is the best way to murder someone and then you'd be "respectful" enough to tell them. And when they do murder someone based on your methods, I'd like to see what you'd think.
Gosh, people nowadays, seriously.
There are times to be respectful and be a good helping Samaritan, but this is not the time. Don't be stupid and enable potential voyeurism among the many perverts out there. Please, have some common sense and have respect for the many individuals who could be potentially violated as a result of this ridiculous application.
Good day.
This spy camera software is a great idea.. I always wanted to see what my dog is doing around apartment when we left him alone.... This could be awesome if you could make a video clip with frame rate of 1 frame every 2 seconds... or to connect your self via internet to your phone and watch live feed from your X1...
Hey guys, I would love to hear your opinions on my short film that i've made. This is my 2nd short film including my student short film from last year.
We spent about $300 for the whole short film, pre-production to completion. We didn't have much money to make the movie to begin with, so we went in and hoped for the best. The crew was very small too, but I guess we have to start somewhere
I encountered many problems, which you'd expect for such a low budget short film (especially actors), but I've learnt from those mistakes as I begin writing my next short film and hope for a much better output for the next one.
We got busted by the police for the traffic light scene with helicopters and all, but they were nice enough to let us go.
enjoy and let me know what you think

Well, firstly, you have a great camera-man! Those panning shots were smooth and I didn't see much if any shuddering etc. The focus is great, works especially well with the lights in the night, gives it some visual depth.
Music was soft and helpful for meaning in some scenes, and that keychain/locket was a good symbol for realising which car it was.
The actors weren't that bad in my opinion, way better than anything I could ever do Like others have said, it's more professional than I was expecting! The storyline was a bit confusing at times (or maybe it was me...) but I guess there's only so much you can fit into 16 minutes, so well done there.
Great job overall, keep up the good work! 'Liked' Maybe you should consider entering it somewhere, I'm not sure what's on in Sydney but it's worth a shot.
Just one thing though, why were you busted for the traffic light scene? Were you there for a while or something? I guess we only saw a tiny bit...

pur·ga·to·ry (pûrˈgə-tôrˌē, -tōrˌē)
noun pl. purgatories pur·ga·to·ries
A place or condition of suffering, expiation, or remorse: a purgatory of drug abuse.
purgatory; mental anguish or suffering
It's related to his past and the continued mental suffering he had every night. Especially the hallucinations caused by the pills he took to calm his anxiety attacks, which he didn't know were caused by the pills and was always stuck in this loop of events that haunted him, which is why the ending when Sandra's mother takes the pills from him, he is now able to deal with the past better because of the truth but also because the pills aren't there to bring back those hallucinations anymore to play with his mind again.

Haha, I would've loved to see that!!
The one other thing I have to mention about this movie was the fact that the main character didn't know how to drive a car properly, he was very very bad actually. 'Smoke and mirrors' made him look like a very good driver in the end.

We got busted by the cops because we had one car sit in the middle of the road high beaming the main characters car (when his face lights up as the other car speeds up towards him). This was around 11pm and the neighbours probably thought were doing something illegal like preparing for a drag race (we were beaming each other for 10 minutes) All of a sudden the ground illuminates and we look up and see a helicopter shining a light towards us, a minute later police arrive :\
The story was confusing at times but I made it so you essentially had to look back at even the subtle stuff he did, such as taking the pills then immediately after seeing the ghost car and girl to get a drift of the story.
To ease the confusion a bit for everyone, he was chasing himself. I left it open in one of the sections when Sandra reveals her name. In the story the character say's he doesn't know her however if the pills were causing only hallucinations, then how does he know he name. I left this part open for the audience to think for themselves. Did he know her name because of her death being mentioned at school but had completely forgotten about her until that night when he finally chases his own car and meets the girl or was she really a ghost who came down to tell him the truth about her actions.
The story was too complex for a short film but I think it was only after seeing so many simple linear short films that I wanted to take a different approach.
About entering it into festivals. I'm worried that the film isn't "good enough" yet to be shown at film festivals because of the small problems here and there. I'm trying to create a short film that really stands out at the film festivals and I personally don't believe this film is there yet.

Yeah I noticed that, but I couldn't do anything about it because by the time the other car turns left, it doesn't leave much room to fit in that shot and to give it the same kind of impact. I wanted to cut on the action of the main character turning left to the motion of the car but unfortunately the street lights caused a shadow. In the end, it was a very small problem that I couldn't to cut out because the content of the material was more important than the shadow appearing.

Believe it or not, that single traffic light scene was the hardest part of the whole film. We were running against the time especially having to deal with a public road and waiting for the road to clear on both sides for the other car to drive straight through... oh my goodness, what a nightmare hehe.

Thanks hehe, yeah the plot appears to jump here and there but hopefully if the viewers pay attention to the small stuff that happen, then maybe the bigger picture makes more sense.
This semi doesn't compliy with the rules of this section....because it somewhat is phone related (however does not fit any of the other sub forums?)
Ok, well a bit of background. I am a Cartographer and Web mapping developer (geographic information systems analyst) and I couldn't help but notice something I was doing today that kept reminding me of Android.
Attached is a screenshot of a scanned map of an area within the Gold Coast Planning Scheme which I have been making amendments to recently…it's not hard to tell why it makes someone (like me and maybe like you?) think "OMG android has taken over the city!" haha not really, but I certainly see the resemblances that’s for sure!
By the way this area is actually the precint area for a very reputable (around the world) university, Bond University.
As a side note it has me wondering if there was some "foolery" going on by one of the urban planners?
I can attach another aerial planning scheme screen shot that is ummm…."not so appropriate" that supports why I would suspect foolery (as its not the first time this kind of funny business has occurred) however I think this is not the time or the place and would take away from the rules that I am about to impose on this thread
So…here is a whacky thread for geeks like me to post pics up of things that aren't android related that make you think android.
Rules: Has to be pics, and no stories unless accompanied by a pic to support your story.
Does not have to be a pic of an android alien just a pic of something that instantly makes you (or others) think android!
For instance it could be an ice cream sandwich or gingerbread man or something (btw what the hell does a froyo look like? We either don't have them in Australia or I have never eaten one or they are called something else here lol)…and I know what a cupcake looks likes too, I am not supid hehe. It doesn't have to be a pic of any thing mentioned so far in particular, just anything that makes you think android.
Alright go! Pics only and/or response to pics (so long as it is not a personal story with no accompanying picture).
Froyo=frozen yogurt=ice cream
No pics for now, but yours is awesome.
Every time I hear an android device name it makes me think of the phone. This includes words like incredible
@Archer bahahaha watched it lastnight! Heard it and thought it. Good work on the pic
@mtmerrick thanks for the update. And thanks to you also; I am going to look at the tub of my frozen yoghurt (that i eat every day) in a totally different way lol.
jaszek, Image Hosted by Tripod? ok haha
Either your service is out of bandwidth or you ARE actually suggesting Tripod reminds you of Android? hmmm
Weird. The image shows for me. And I just found it online. I don't keep a stash of pictures on my computer to post online.

an obvious fail is obvious.
BTW, human-like thing which runs on electricity.
Updated the post and put in a different image as well.
LOL you can't fail at this thread....its just a bit of fun haha
Every single time without fail for the past 20 years, whenever something seeps into society that millions of people get to use, I am left behind because I cannot ever get anything to work that millions of people all seem to magically somehow get working. Furthermore any time someone tries to explain ti all they do is cause even more confusion because they are under some mystery assumption that I even have a clue to what they're talking about. So i never use things because no one explains how to use any of it and what do exist for instructions require massive amounts of instructions to understand.
One example of this is that hashtag texting crap ( TEXT the word (Insert word to). I'm not even sure where to begin on how confusing and nonsensical that is. A hashtag does not ever allow you to directly call a phone not too mention you have no idea what they're talking about.
Finally after 8 years of hearing and reading people say that and seeing it in ads, I literally walked into a phone store and when i asked it took 20 minutes of going in circles for them to finally realize what i was asking, When someone says texting that could mean anything So I said face book they said no, I said twitter, they said no, I said email, again no..I said WTF is texting them finally after they realized they didn't actually explain it and realized texting in itself has no instructions making it impossible for people who don't know what it means, to use it.
Anyway, I made them go step by step and show me every single thing about texting and To this day, I still have no clue how to do it or what the point is. and it irritates me to no avail how people think things like this are somehow self explanatory. it's far from it.
That brings me to the main point of this post.
I am sick and tired of reading and seeing people say SCAN THIS QR Code and for the past 10 years, have yet to know WTF the word SCAN means in phone terms. Your phone IS NOT AND NEVER HAS BEEN A SCANNER so stop using that word.
Someone said use your camera..OK HOW, they said take a picture I then proceeded to argue with them for a half hour, that a picture is NOT A SCAN it's a damn picture.
Also what is the point to taking a picture of this stupid thing it doesn't do anything..WTF do I need a picture of a QR code for.
I have arrived at the conclusion that everyone has made something up just to troll people. Saying a picture of a QR does something is the same thing as me saying taking a picture of barbie doll pants makes a car appear in my driveway it's a stupid thing to say and nothing but pure nonsense and trolling.
Just for the heck of it, my wife and I went around and took pictures of about 26 QR codes and then tried figuring out what is supposed to happen. In the end all we had was 26 pictures of qr codes.
No one is going to convince me that QR codes do anything or have a point other than to troll people. Until me or my wife personally have something happen with one we take a picture of I will call anyone that says it does something or they used it or millions of people use them every day a liar.
If QR codes actiually did something then how come for the past 10 years nothing has ever happened when attempting to take a picture of one.
I am not going to get into this nonsense about people using the word SCAN your phone does not scan anything and never will. Your phone cannot do anything except take a picture, it does not emit a red line and never will because your phones lens doesn't do that because it's not a function of the lens itself so you cannot TURN your phone into what you see a department or someone taking inventory.
A scanner is an actual device that you find at a supermarket or department store that emits a red beam from it to scan bar codes and a qr code is not a bar code nor acts like one.
So does this mean you made this rant up to troll people as well?
After all you're one of us...

Except that doesn't apply here because you replied to me first which makes anything you can try and say in accordance to what you're doing, invalid.
So congratulations, you've just let everyone know and see your iq level
Thanks for the laugh and awareness flag.

When your first post is a lengthy rambling rant you dimed yourself out.
As best I can tell with my limited IQ...
OP will prolly freak-out if he/she knew people use "battery backup" to refer to batt life (or batt condition in general)

guys,
if we look into a dictionary and insert the word "scan", we would get several meanings:
1.observation
2.reviewing
3.research
4.startle
5.a brief reading
6..........
so, base on it I agree with U more approprie to call it "picture" rather than "scan".
but, if we just insert random picture, the app wont work! so here, we know that the app is indeed processing some pattern here and there (IMHO).
another thing that i have to agree with U is our phone indeed is not a scanner and it take a picture not scan a picture.
