Hi,
No OTA updates for me as my Z2 Pro is running some merchant version as I have multiple languages available.
With that in mind, do I need to update to latest ZUI software, or simply unblock bootloader, root and flash custom rom?
At the moment I am at 2.1.120 ST
Same here. That's international ROM, which does not support OTA. I believe I'm gonna flash latest ZUI using QFIL method (there's a thread "How to flash stock ROM") but there's not much info about this latest ZUI version.
Both of you are best served following any of the guides to flash the stock rom via QFIL. After that you're free to decide how to continue (OTA, Custom ROM, Custom Recovery...)
Thanks, will do.
By the way, I bought the device specifically to go straight to a custom ROM. I had a really easy time flashing the stock rom, updating through OTA (didn't even need VPN for some reason) and then unlocked bootloader, flashed TWRP and AEX. The whole setup works quite nicely.
And according to a number of threads the device should be close to unbrickable. But I haven't verified that myself
Hi,
I've recently debranded my P20 Pro and found that I can no longer use Google Pay. As part of the debranding process, I unlocked the bootloader, rooted the phone, debranded, and then lost root, and noticed that even without root, it wasn't working.
I've rooted the P20 Pro after debranding and SafeNet Check is coming back False for ctsProfile and basicIntegrity, which after reading around, seems to be the issue here. I've tried using Magisk Core Only Mode, I've tried making sure Google Pay is selected in Magisk Hide etc, but still no luck.
Has anyone else managed to get Google Pay working after debranding, or managed to get SafetyNet to come back True after debranding?
Many thanks
Yes, you need to relock the bootloader but will mean you lose root

This is incorrect, man. I have been using Google Pay fully rooted with an unlocked bootloader for over a month with no issues. I suspect it is either because the debranding process has created the issue or something to do with the firmware.
OP, what firmware are you running? If you are on 8.1.0.128a then that is the reason you are failing safetynet.
Downgrade to just 8.1.0.128 and it will function.
I'm unlocked and rooted, Google Pay works just fine.

Thanks for your reply. I'm on 8.1.0.128. The reason I debranded was to get firmware updates. I was originally stuck on a UK build CLT L29 8.1.0.110, but I'm now on EU build CLT L29 8.1.0.128.

No problem. Your build number (in settings) would only show 128 even if on 128a which I suspect that you are infact on (which is the most recent C432 firmware on firmware finder).
Before locking your bootloader (which is unlikely to help, but maybe worth a try if you fail to pass safetynet after at least trying another firmware) you should check firmware finder for 128 (not 128a) and use the HuRUpdater method, and then see if SafetyNet passes.
I had the same issue, basically if your phones bootloader is unlocked but no root and no twrp is installed then all apps will fail the safenet check... No clue why, but i found that out after a few hours of testing and restoring the phone...

Thanks again. Can you confirm that it's safe to downgrade the firmware? I' seem to remember reading that it bricks the phone.

Thanks for your reply. Can I assume you got Google Pay back to working, after undoing the changes you made in testing, i.e. locking the bootloader, rooting, and installing twrp?

Yup, reflashed with e-recovery back to stock and its all fine
i'm using revolution rom 8.10.25 pie and now arb become 1...
is it safe to downgrade to another custom rom such as revolution 8.10.25 but oreo version. without brick..?
I would say so, but you're gonna need to format your data. So, in any case, make a backup, and then format..
I had been already on Xiaomi.eu Pie version, but since it was still a little bit buggy, decided to go back to Oreo Stable.
You have your bootloader unlocked, so as long as you keep it that way, ARB doesn't affect us..

That's NOT TRUE at all. ARB as Google intended would work that way, but Xiaomi implemented their own version of it. If you flash something with lower ARB index, you brick your device. More information here.

btw did u or have tried to flash firmware from oreo...?
Yes, I had. First thing I did when I got my hands on my Mi 8, was to unlock the bootloader. Luckily for me, I had an account already, from the times of my old Samsung Galaxy S3, which had a lot of firmware available, and I used Miui at some stage and created an account back then, which allowed me to unlock the BL straight ahead.
So after unlocking the bootloader, flashed xiaomi.eu , and root with Magisk.
FLashed a few updates of xiaomi.eu and when it came out, xiaomi.eu stable rom, based on china version( all of this rom's are based on china version)
But, I had already tried global, but because it doesn't allow us to install 3rd party themes, decided to go back to xiaomi.eu and keep it that way.
A few weeks ago, Android Pie, came out, flashed a beta version, noticed it was still buggy, and didn't saw much advantage on using it, not to mention the fact that it was draining my battery faster, so went back to Oreo.
What I did?
Format data, by going into Wipe in TWRP, and then press Format Data.
After that, flashed Xiaomi.eu Stable version of Oreo, and everything works great.
So yeah, it's possible to downgrade from Pie to Oreo, as long as you have a Unlocked Bootloader and keep it that way.

i think i know why still can be downgraded to oreo.... i look in fastboot (oreo stable v9.6.7.0) file "flash_all.bat" the "set CURRENT_ANTI_VER=1"..
and in pie also arb still 1... so which mean still safe to downgrade to oreo coz arb still 1....

It makes sense since it's developer version and people go from weekly to stable back and forth. With new stable and official release of Pie on MI 8 they would increase ARB index and it would not be possible to rollback anymore.
I have updated to the latest MIUI Global 13,0,2,0 and I NEED ROOT ACCESS, how do i go about it now?
i know it cant be done via trwp but fastboot...
i downloaded the miui_STARGlobal_V13.0.2.0.SKAMIXM_eecc15ab63_12.0 but there is no boot.img inside??? (that is the rom version i currently have installed)
PLEASE help me root my device
1. Yes and it takes 168 hours to complete and ends with a format. Use official mi unlock tool.
2. There is only one custom ROM. It is the Xiaomi EU ROM and available on that forum or via mifirm.net
3. Safetynet will not pass while on a rooted ROM. Unless you use magisk. My question is why do you need root? The Xiaomi EU ROM passes safteynet and all you banks, gpay etc work fine without root. There is no working twrp on A12, all A12 updates on Xiaomi EU ROM are fastboot.
4. Plenty of guides in this or the Xiaomi EU forum for 11 Ultra but obviously there is always risk in flashing but even when bricked, these can be brought back to life with the help of anyone with an edl account.

Awesome, thank you kindly for that great reply,
2) is that custom Rom any better than stock or has some sort of advantage over stock? Extra features, programs, tweeks...?
This custom rom come pre-rooted?
3) i don't need root for anything in particular, I've always had root on every single Android I've ever owned, once in a blue moon it comes in handy, i do plan on using magisk,
- from memory mine came with Android 11 Global, will twrp work on that?
5) That 1 custom rom, does it receive updates or voids warranty? And it is possible to revert back to stock but not downgrade Android versions...?

2. We call it "custom" but it just stock miui China rom of 11U with some mod for working in global area
As u know if u unlock phone, some app will not work normally (like banking, Google pay, Netflix...) they already fix almost all of the problem like that. And every default app can be uninstall easily (but xiaomi already have the way to uninstall thêm too).
And it isn't pre-rooted
3. If u dont want to do anything with root, i recommend u to stay away from it.
A11 is working fine with twrp, u can find official twrp in forums
MIUI 13 (A12) isn't.

You mentioned if I unlock my phone some apps won't work... You mean if I root my phone right? There's magisk hide that Helps to bypass these restrictions...
If there's no custom ROMs or special mods then I don't see the point in installing twrp? Unless there's advantages of twrp on Xiaomi phones?
Can I root the current stock firmware that's installed now on my device ?

Yes
Yes, can root without twrp, just need to find correct boot.img file

Update: this is only for mi pilot program accounts, I didn't know that I am part of pilot program until this update. Many people are commenting in here without reading comments that says it is for pilot accounts so I had to add this update...

with me, i just need twrp when i want to use xiaomi.eu rom, they usually realease recovery zip file for update rom. But now still no working twrp with A12, so they realease fastboot rom, and i dont want to use xiaomi.eu rom anymore so i dont care about twrp
yes. u can always comeback to stock with flash fastboot rom (or recovery rom with working twrp)
i prefer fastboot rom because i just think it's cleaner than recovery (LOL)
And with fastboot method, u can relock bootloader if u want, just need to carefully pick the right rom of your phone original. (eg: global unit can only relock using global rom, eea with eea rom, CN with CN rom)

If I want custom rom, i will go for xiaomi.eu
And here i talk about official fastboot rom, thanks
You're misinformed.
They offer the official rom, all they do is to pack it in a fastboot installer.
Again, official rom, repacked. I'd advise a fact check because you are active in answering people, but your knowledge is obviously partial.
