Recently bought the phone off Amazon and started messing with the cameras and noticed i could have my fingers over the top and bottom camera on all modes and zoom one each and it never used them? Did I get a faulty phone or am I using something wrong?

I heard this and think it is true for the P9 too, but I've learned some things since then. There are a lot of modes and resolution combinations. Try the basics first. Top cam is only zoom. Bottom is B&W.
For example, I cannot shoot with finger over zoom lens after choosing 3x zoom in Photo mode and waiting for the zoom lens to kick in (the image stabilises once the zoom lens is active).
I would try with and without AI, with different resolutions and with different modes. I just tried night mode on 10mp and covered the B&W sensor, so maybe it's all a big scam.
Thought the same first but now im sure all of them are working fine .
The phone can only use two cameras at once anyway to my knowledge .
When you zoom in good lighting it will switch to telephoto cam ( top cam ).
When you shoot in bw it will use monochrome .
When the phone tells you to stabilize fot sharpening it will trigger the monochrome sensor too .

Guys I have a big problem. Just received my long awaited Touch Diamond today from Hong Kong and everything seems to be working fine except the camera auto-focus! When placing a finger over the button its normally suppose to auto focus, followed by a press which then takes the picture. But mine doesnt auto-focus. There doesnt seem to be any movement of the lens at all!
Any ideas or comments would be much appreciated. My device details are below.
Thanks
ROM Version: 1.35.707.3 WWE
ROM Date: 05/28/08
Radio Version: 0.93.25.NS26
Protocol Version: 52.26.25.09H
Actually I found that worked sometimes but the manual clearly states that you need to press the action button the camera will then adjust focus and take the picture.
In my one that dosen't work. The camera does not adjust focus no matter what way I try. At the moment when I try to take pictures of objects from about a feet from the camera lense it comes clear. But if I try to take any normal pictures the phone makes noise (plays a software assigned sound clip replicating lense movement) but the actual lense does not do anything.
So are your pictures in focus?
I don't think you can quite see the lens move.

lol no the pictures are not in focus. Normal shots come out really blurry.

In the camera Advanced setting, p.2 Did you select the Shoot Option to "Touch and Press"?
In my case, I just place my finger on the button: the Touch Diamond recognizes this and auto-focuses, then I can press the button and shoot a nice picture!

Yes it was set to "Touch and Press" by default. I tried the other 2 options too, without luck. Unfortunately my unit seems to be a faulty one. I contacted the seller (x1386) and they said they will repair or change the unit. So I will have to miss the long awaited lovely touch screen for a good few days
Thanks for your replies Guys
free up some ram, it will work again

It had the same problem out of the box. I tried it after disabling TouchFLO 3D and it still had the same problem.
FYI
For those of you with problems,
If I flip my diamond over and watch the lens very closely, I can visibly see it move when focusing.
Given that there's some sort of actuator in there, it's possible that it could arrive faulty I guess.
Cheers,
ccg.
Hi,
anybody having this issue as well?
The 5x zoom is useless for me as the camera is unable to get in focus. So a few milliseconds and only occasionally it gets sharp but then it looks blurred again.
10x produces sharp images.

Thanks!
You have to keep in mind it is a lot slower to lock focus than the main sensor. Give it time to lock on target and then take the shot or else you will end up with unfocused shots.
/ Magnus
Well it locks but then loses focus.

I assume this is not normal, I have asked for a replacement.
I have noticed this issue when trying to take a photo through a window. No matter how close you hold it to the window, it will try to focus on the window. Then if you wait long enough (5-30sec) it will focus out to infinity but then it will pop back to the window after a few seconds.
It should really default to infinity since that most objects you will use the 5X lens for will be far out.
Sometimes when it just isnt working, I switch to Pro mode and manual focus, but the interface is clunky and you lose some of the auto-features.
I've never had this issue before with other phones when taking photos through a window.
I also noticed that it is not as sharp, but I assume that is a limitation of the lower resolution sensor and maybe the OIS not fully compensating.

Mine focus perfectly through windows.
I am planning to get a new S10 soon. With the new dedicate night mode update, I have a few questions:
1. Is it possible to use Night mode in bright condition(like during a sunny day)? This because night mode in the Pixel phone provide better quality even in bright condition.
2. Is it possible to force Night mode to use the telephoto camera.
3. Is it possible to force Night mode to use the ultra wide angle camera
Thanks!
1. Yes
2. No
3. Yes
Except there is no forcing anything as you just selection the options normally on the camera app interface
Also this is a thread for the Q&A section.
2 is apperently in the works as well for ultra wide angle

2 is referring to the 2x optical zoom lens. Night mode already works with the Ultra wide lens.
Can I also ask if the night mode is actually useable? IE does not require super steady hands or long exposure times? For example with the Ultra wide which has a smaller aperture.
What kind of exposure times are usually applied in the dark? I'm talking about in the outdoors, some street lights, artificial lighting etc.
more than usable

Night mode doesn't need super steady hands. A normal non-shaky hand is enough to get an excellent photograph.
Exposure is based on the lighting available. For me, outdoors with street lighting shot has always been around 1/6 th of a second. Again this always depends on the light available for the sensor you are using.
Hi, I have just bought the rhinoshield adapter and lens kit and squeezes the adapter into my otterbox symmetry case. (it just fits but causes minor lifting of the hard plate in that section).
The adapter allows you to position the lens in front of both cameras. It works well with the main camera closest to the flash.
The camera closes to the power button doesn't seem to activate unless in live focus mode.
My question is this. How can I manually select the telephoto camera so I can explore this rhinoshield lens I just bought.
I have searched the net but can not seem to find a page that tells me how to manually switch between the two cameras if I so choose to.
Many thanks for your time and help.

if lighting conditions are good enough just use the 2x zoom.
if not by default live focus uses the the tele lense but in that mode you cant zoom.
test it out by putting ure finger on the middle sensor. if you see an image, that means the telephoto sensor is in use using the conditions described above.
One of the main reasons I bought this phone was for the camera specs at the time. However, I now see that the second lens is basically just a prop that does nothing. Is there any way to make it work in normal might aside from locking the focus before shooting something darker? Any option is on the table. Can I somehow tell the API that it's bright enough?
