I peeled off the back cover so I could swap on a new one and put a new Slickwrap on. With it still off, I found I can't get the phone to turn back on. I also found that I made a small puncture in the battery foil just under the edge of the black mat that the wireless coil in on. There's a glue/paint smell in that area that the rest of the open phone doesn't seem to have.
Should it be able to turn on with the back cover off or is there some "safety" that prevents that?
Is a small puncture in the foil a problem, or is it just a cosmetic wrap?
I have not put the new back cover on yet.
I plugged it in and the screen showed the charging battery animation. Still open back.
I put it on my wireless charger and it powered on automatically. Doesn't seem to respond to pushing the power button. No back cover still.
The volume buttons don't work either. I put the old cover back on and got no change.
I reseated the ribbon cable by the power/volume buttons and it seems to be fine now.
Still wondering about the battery foil puncture though?
I would replace the battery, just to be on the safe side. They are not too expensive. You don't want your phone to be a Galaxy Note-like bomb in your pocket.
Also, if it is the original battery, it will be old by now. Many people (me included) have had to replace their batteries because of sudden power offs.
The battery life has really held strong so far. And I am considering a new phone come Black Friday, so I might hold off on a new battery for now. I'd get a Pixel 3xl, if it weren't for the lack of headphone jack.

hi all, i was recently given an hp hw6500 that wont turn on.
it was not used for several months so i'm guessin the battery
since I dont want to spend money on a new one, if thats not the problem
I tried plugging it to o the cradle with no battery and try to turn it on, but nothing.
can this be done?
Looks like is the microswitch at fault...
is your unit react to charger?
if so, following the steps:
1. plug your unit into MAINS CHARGER
2. use a tweezer, bended paperclip or something fine and push inside the mocroswitch
Located at the uppder right slot of the battery cover hole
Do repeat step 2 until unit boot up
3. let the unit charge for a 20mins and put back the bck cover
4. If random shutdowns happen, increase the thickness of the battery cover leg that is contact with the microswitch with some thick paper and double sided tape.
I was in germany for a few days recently and we went in someone elses old ford transit van. I plugged my phone into its cigarette lighter socket with my usual car charger. The blue light came on on the charger (it's actually a motorola charger but always works in my own car) and eventually the phone switched off.
I couldn't turn it on again, all I got was the first t-mobile screen for a few seconds and then it switched off. It was certainly hot weather but the phone didn't feel hotter than normal. Even hours later when the phone was completely cooled off it wouldn't turn on. I figured it would need to be returned for repair.
So I managed to do a hard reset in the few seconds the phone would stay on to see if it would make any difference which it didn't. Also, it was for reasons of voiding the warranty with all my 3rd party software which needs to be removed if sending back to htc.
When I got home and plugged the phone into my pc, after a few minutes of charging, it was all ok again! So I didn't need to hard reset and have now reinstalled everything. I'm pretty sure the cigarette lighter socket works ok as it worked once with my artemis and the same charger. I can think of no good reason it didn't charge the battery.
Btw, take a look at this picture. See the stain on the lower side of the back cover? Is that a heat stain from overheating? It won't rub off. The phone is always in it's silicon case. The silcion case shows no evidence of heat marks but I'm wondering if it contributed to the marks.

Maybe I'll take the phone to t-mobile and try and get it cleaned up or replaced, if only the back cover. What do you think?
Anyone with an opinion of heat marks on back cover?
I have an hd7 tmous, and this problem has persisted on the original rom, and the official nodo, both locked and unlocked. Phone will work fine, run it all day, then while I'm at work, phone in my back pocket, it won't wake up with any button, and I have to pull the battery. Only when its in my back pocket. Sometimes takes 5 minutes, sometimes a few hours. Front pocket takes more time. Any ideas? I thought about trying another radio. I have search xda and the net and can't find a solution. Got it used and have no warranty. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Also, on my days off, and the phone never goes in my pocket, no freezing. How odd. Sometimes its really warm, almost hot.....
I've had a similar problem but only when its been on charge a few hours. the lil green battery light stays lit but the phone wont respond unless I do a battery pull
Hmmm. Now that you mention it, every time it has done it, it was about 80+ % charged. Never done it on half charge. The green led that you mentioned doesn't behave as you said, but you gave me an idea- battery maybe? Gets hot, only does it when mostly charged, it makes sense.
I recreated the problem. Putting a fair amount of pressure on the bottom of the phone, just below the battery cover causes the screen to dim, keeps dimming, then the phone is off. Seems like a short. Gonna take it apart when I get home. Fun times, lmao.
SOLVED
I was right, it was a short. After a little process of elimination, I narrowed it down to the protector shield/heat sink that the SIM card/sd card cluster rest on. I pushed on the SIM card bracket, and it dies. I unplugged the cluster, left it on, same result. Removed the cluster and the shield it is stuck to (by adhesive), and it didn't die. Increased the pressure until my screen made funny colors, still didn't die. There is a heat sink pad and some amber "tape" that are on the underside of the shield, centralized around the CPU. The area I pressed on was on the opposite side of the cluster though. And, oddly, there was no protective amber "tape" on that area. I cut a piece of clear packing tape, made it just the right size to cover the area, and not overlap the amber side. I put the shield back together and the problem is gone. Turns out that when my phone was in my back pocket and I bent down for something, it would put pressure on the bottom of my phone and short it out. Considering the area of the short, I feel very lucky that my phone is still kicking. I am posting this to help anyone who might have a similar problem. I hope this helps. Easy to take apart, unlike the hd2
Thanks, xda, for without you and your awesome gathering of people, i would be lost...... And bored.
Hello, I just upgraded a few days ago, and one thing I notice is the device getting pretty hot sometimes, especially when I charge it, or am outside.
When I'm charging with the cable it came with, it goes up to 110 degrees F on the bottom of the device, and outside, and it goes to 120 F when I'm out and about only with data on.
It also gets rather on in my pocket, even when data is off and power saver mode on.
Is this a defect or just the metal build?
I also need to return it for a new one as it has loose volume buttons, but I want to see if this is an issue too.
I don't have a case yet.
Thanks.
Overheating is easily overcome by flashing a different kernel.
As far as loose buttons goes did you just impulse buy or did you have it in your hands and notice if the display had the same issue.if the volume buttons work put a glove type of case on it and enjoy it
So I've had my turbo for quite some time now, and I got a free Qi charger from a friend who got a new one with his new phone package. Anywho, he also had a Turbo and it worked fine with it. It's a Chinese ebay charger, but again, it worked with his phone and is the same spec as the Moto OEM for input/output.
My phone however, won't connect. I popped the back cover (I had previously replaced the stock battery which was going bad) and put the qi coil antenna right up to the charger, and it seemed to work fine. I thought maybe the back case was soft or deformed from multiple openings so I tried putting removing the back cover rubber spacer and putting it between the coil and batter instead to put the coil closer to the case backing. No help. I then tried putting even more spacers in it via folded printer paper to keep the coil against the back case. Still nothing. I confirmed it still worked if I remove the back case and put it up the coil. I did notice however, that it DOESNT work, if the coil is against the battery or laying on the charger, only if its free open away from the phone in my hand being held with my fingers near the coil.
Now I noticed that on the coil there are two paths that lead to a single raised point on the top of the coil pad, but it doesnt seem to coincide with any contact on the phone, thinking maybe it was a chasis ground?? But why would it work in my hand not grounded?
Ideas?
