November update AOD issue. - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hello,
So since I installed the November patch few days ago, the AOD stopped working properly. It doesn't recognize any touch and lost the double-tap functionality, except when using the S Pen, then it works like a charm. I have no idea why this is happening but it's frustrating. Anyone else experiencing such issue?

What's your region? Notification popped up today (am in the UK) to update November security patch (see image) but I haven't. Just wondering whether I should cos this seems to be an issue.. especially when software updates start to crash your device ?...or make it "malfunction"

Eastern Europe. And cannot tell you to either do or do not update. The only thing I got form Samsung Support was to do a factory reset which was a ridiculous proposal.

I took the risk, updated today and it's been fine. Really crazy that Samsung suggests a hard reset. Hope u manage to sort it out.

On November security patch(build ARK3) as well on the Exynos, with no such issues.
Erase cache in recovery and re-check, well and good it it fixes, if not do a "reset settings", if still fails, do a "factory data reset" as you have no other option.

Note 4 (Marshmallow update) - Disable multi-window makes the phone un-usable

This happened to me yesterday and that was completely by mistake. I had the marshmallow update for sometime now and not experienced any major issues other than the random heating (while charging) and some drains at times.
The major issue occurred to me yesterday, when my mutli-window function got disabled by some how and then the phone did not respond to any of my finger touches anywhere on the screen. I have a password lock screen and that too stopped working because the touch response system was not usable. After a struggle for many hours and one sleepless night, the next morning, when I was just thinking of sending the phone to the service center; it just came to my mind and I tried out the SPen and that was working just fine. :victory:
So, using SPen I unlocked my phone and tried to understand what changed. As I normally enable a few functions on my phone, it easily came to my notice that the multi-window function was disabled. So, again using the SPen I enabled it and Voila!! the finger touch started working back.
This is pretty crazy and never experienced this before the marshmallow update.
PS: Even the backlit hard buttons ( left one, home, back right ) had stopped working for me for that instance.
Anyone has any clue on it?
Did you do a reset after the upgrade?

Yes, as I said the upgrade was not the issue, the issue is disabling "multi-windows" made the phone unusable for sometime till I enabled it back and it started working fine. The issue is something with that "multi-window" on marshmallow update.
I don't intend to go back to older version now.

With all due respect, there's no way to know if the "upgrade was not the issue" unless you actually did a wipe/reset to rule out the crud remaining particularly between major version number leaps.
I tested what you described as the cause of your problem on my wiped/reset device and the problem is not happening for me. Enabling and disabling multi-window causes no issues in my case.
IT might be worth doing a wipe/reset if you haven't. (It's not clear from your response if you have or not done so).

I think I have been more clear and transparent, if you says the multi-window is not an issue then it may be something else which I am not aware of. Though I know that over that particular day nothing new was installed on my phone (so I doubt it can be other software).
Why I am sure its the marshmallow update is because the older version I had tried disabling the mutli-window and the phone worked well, only with the marshmallow update the phone got weird (that too with that multi-window disabled) and enabling the multi-window made it work, so that's my point.
To answer you question on "Did I do a reset", the answer is no I did not, I rebooted (and shut) it couple of times thinking its overloaded but it did not change my situation. Only after I realized that SPen was working fine I could unlock the phone and enable the mutli-window and there after it started responding well to my finger touches too. It's working good today as I write this response. I can once again disable mutli-windows and check if it goes weird again. Let me know if you want me to do that?
Regards.
I recognize that doing a reset can be a pain, but it's probably worth it in the long term. It's up to you, but if it were me, I'd do a reset and start fresh.
When you make major version leaps, the chances of problems increases dramatically over point releases. (i.e. going from 5.x to 6.x is bigger than going from 5.0 to 5.1)

Just took this update today. It's definitely smoother. They did something with this release beyond just security patches, or maybe just clearing the cache. I can't find anything online about what's in it tho. If anyone can find release notes I'd love to read.

Any link to flash update manually?
Does anyone know how to manually clear the cache on the Urbane?
Ahh, so now I'm thinking its time for AW2 for UB2 as from this UB feedback seems the new update is smoother.

I've restarted mine and still don't have it available. I'd like it too.
***update***
I reset my watch and it updated after I paired it up again.
The update has shown up on my urbane with skin1980's EXT4ALL rom, so I flashed stock, but on stock it doesn't show up.

I don't own the UB, I own the UB2, but looking in forums on other watches, seems if you disable phone bluetooth, on Watch enable Wifi and then go into settings about system update and keep clicking 20-50 times seems to kick it a bit earlier. Don't know if this method will work with UB.
Maybe a staged rollout? Mine just appeared after charging.
Just got the update started on mine. Showed up randomly saying an update was available and I just got one a couple days ago too so I'm not too sure what that was about. Either way, I'm hopeful for better performance as some of the lag, especially with google assistant is unbearable.
Edit: So after update, it looks like I'm on build number NXG47C with March 1, 2017 security patch level.
I would think NXG is older than NXH? Mine was also manually sideloaded the AW2 update so I'm not sure if that has something to do with how I get updates now. Guess I'll have someone call me and see what happens.
Edit 2: I do have a call decline option now. Does not let me answer the call, but I can decline...so I guess that's useful. Though I dont remember if I had this option before since I always just answer/decline on my phone. The watch did respond to the call coming in pretty fast though which is nice.
Wow, this update really made things MUCH smoother. It is really usable device now!
Seems like Google-Assistant is working again
Received my update yesterday. Definitely is allot smoother, Google Assistant doesn't take a decade to open anymore. Could have sworn Ok Google would work with "always on" turned off and wake the watch up, but it doesn't seem to anymore, but not 100% sure it did before the update anyway.

Yes : you have to enter into recovery mode. For that reboot the watch, while rebooting swipe from top-left to bottom-right to enter bootloader, in bootloader select recovery mode then select wipe cash partition
Does it feel like battery drain is more after the update?
Not happy with forced update.
My URBANE was working fine with Skin1980's EXT4ALL.
The update installed itself last night while charging the watch, and now it's stuck in a recovery loop (TWRP).
Can anyone help me turn this paper weight back into a watch again?

[FIX available] Bottom part of the touchscreen stops working

Solution:
Go to Settings (if you're stuck in an app, use the button in your notification panel)
Go to 'System' (try tapping above the broken screen area)
Go to 'About this phone'
That should be all that has to be done! Do note: this fix isn't permanent. Let's hope Nokia fixes this.
Old thread:
Hello all!
When i woke up today and unlocked my phone (while an app is open) the bottom part (starting just above the nav-buttons) of my touchscreen just stops working.
I've had this problem a couple times (at most once per day) since updating from Oreo.
The solution to this problem seems to just to reboot the phone.. (This won't fix it permanently, sadly)
I'm asking if anyone else has this same problem, because i don't know the source of this problem.. (Maybe its because of the app not being P compatible?)
Thanks!
Hi, I have the same problem after the last update (september). Android Pie beta. Almost every morning i have to restart ..
Before the update was enough to just torn off/on the screen .
i don't have this problem on TA-1046 with Pie DP2-DP4.1 or Pie stable... maybe some incompatible apps? you use some for changing NavBar/Gesture area?
although i use XDA NavigationGesture what replace NavBar/Gesture with own, still not having problem, maybe you can try too this replacement, have many more function/settings that stock Pie gesture
for u its bottom touch screen is not working , but for me top of my touch screen isnt working .. and iam facing some serious problems after updating to pie . my phone restarts all of a sudden while charging , app crashes and more , hope hmd fixes this kind of issues in upcoming oct security patch update .

But when I connect my Nokia 7 Plus below 50%,My phone shows charging And when I tap the screen it doesn't charge. It occurs couple of time. And then It becomes normal and shows rapid charge after 55%. My charging port is fine when I connect it with my Pc usb port. some how the rapid charge doesn't respond. Does anyone have this problem?

Yeah I'm facing similar issues, or did... I'm not sure... but it's been a non-issue for the past ~36 hours now. Here's to hoping it's not an issue any longer. I speculated it might be adaptive battery related somehow, so I tried rebooting my phone just before going to bed Sunday night, but my navbar still worked Monday morning, and this Tuesday it's still working in fact. I did this to test if it stopped working based on time since last reboot, or because some background process being killed due to adaptive battery/doze putting the phone to sleep. But based on my recent experience I think my hypothesis can be rejected. And I'm still not sure what caused it.

Same for me ta-1046, happened to me twice now. bottom part of screen stops reacting to touch. reboot fixes it.
Hmm... After playing around in the settings while having this problem active, for some reason, going to the phone info section just fixed it... I'm not sure if going there actually did that. needs more testing, I suppose.
+1 I use navigation gestures

Huh, I'll be damned. When my nav bar was frozen this morning I went into the "about phone" section in the menu, and, lo and behold, my nav bar sprang back to life instantly. Now it might still just be a coincident of course, but it's certainly interesting, and could potentially be a fix where you don't have to reboot.

Capture of
I managed to capture a video of the bounds of the touch-registration when the bottom 1,5 centimeter of the screen stops registering.

Same problem for me after upgrading a couple of days ago. Bottom of the screen (navbar and a bit more) is not accessible. Always happens after a night charging.
Going to the "About phone" menu fixes it. Thanks!
I have seen reports of people with other phones saying this is due to the setup wizard being active and preventing using the navigation bar. Tried some suggested adb commands without success. I will still try to disable the setup wizard app and report back.
IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!

This might help getting a quicker fix from Nokia.
Looks like the recent October patch still has this issue.
Would be nice if i can get a logcat this issue, but given this issue gets triggered after hours of inactivity, it would take a looong time to sift through the log.
Maybe there's a way to trigger it without waiting?
I can try logging when i do the "about phone" fix, will come back to this.
same isue here.. after chsrging at night nav bar bottom inch not responsive.. will try the phone info thing in the morning... is this software related ? will there be a patch??

air trigger not working as before

Dear guy
After I update to 1910.34 yesterday on my tencent phone , my right air trigger not working well I need to press so hard near lockscreen button to make it work even I set lowest force level and sensitive bosster turn on.
Does anyone have the same issue like mine? And is this hardware and software issue ?
Same but republic of gamers here delay response time

Try update to 1910.44. This fix the problem
right air trigger is not working perfectly
Problem not resolved after update also.
Left Air-Trigger button not working properly
Yesterday my phone's left air-trigger started to loose its connection or something. I had to press really hard for it to notice that I am pressing the button. And even when I am holding it, it again looses its connection in between. Firstly I thought that it was app specific but then I tried it on multiple games and the issue was same on all. This has made it almost unplayable. Then I thought may be it will get fixed by updating the phone. But even after updating it to 1910.64 (which is latest by this day) the air trigger were not working as they were on the day of purchase. Please let me know if it is a software issue or a hardware issue. And if you need more information I will happy to provide them so feel free to ask. BTW I purchased this device this month only.
Have u tried folks factory reset?

Hi Everyone! Hope you all are well.. @arpitsinha explained..
I am facing the same issue since January update and its remains same till date.. i tried hard resetting, Rollback on android 9, again updating to letest android 10 and may 2020 update as well.
I also wrote mail to Asus about the same but their responce was cold and told me to visit Asus Service center after Lockdown. I also watche youtube video where a guy suggested to clean teigger spot with spirit and or try removing Back cover and use phone naked.. pointless but i did tried ...
Finally after trying all options I did something that didn't resolve My mobile issue but it resolved mine..
I stared using 4 finger.. hope asus acknowledge it and resolve this issue soon.

Can't adjust volume from lock screen?

I have had this phone for a few days and one thing I can't figure out is why I can't adjust the volume when I'm at the lock screen, I have to unlock the phone to do this. I have never experienced this with any other Android phone. Is there a way to enable this in the settings?
Thanks

Umm did you try the obvious reboot of the phone?
I can adjust volume with screen off, no problem.
Maybe you have some kind of 3rd party app which blocks it?
Or better yet, maybe you have the latest system update?

Well, it's a well known fact that updates break stuff for this phone. I myself stay with the January security level and system updates from Nov 2019.
I don't know if any 3rd party app could block the buttons, it was just a thought.
What you could do is factory reset the phone and test. Otherwise - service. Like I said, mine works fine.
