I wonder if any of you broke your Galaxy Note 8 contract to get a Galaxy Note 9 or switched from a Galaxy Note 8?
Is the Galaxy Note 9 worth the switch?
Yeah, for me, definitely. Battery life is much better. That was a deal breaker for me on the Note 8. I really wanted to get 2 years out of it but my experience as regards battery life was really frustrating.

I have both among other brands and imho if you have a Note 8 and you are happy with it just keep it. One of the things that I enjoy the most about the 8 when compared to the 9 is the thickness or the lack of it for that matter, everything else could be considered software differences and they will both get the Android Pie next year allegedly. Then again opinions vary and I am pretty sure we do have a lot of owners here that could probably pitch in with more info......
I have both. I like N8 as it has root up to the 3rd bootloader version and is just an amazing device. My N9 for me doesn't need root..great battery usually get 7 to 8hrs screen time..amazing camera..dual bluetooth..fingerprint scanner better position..no lag after constant heavy use. But just like above post mentioned to each his own, Note 8 is a great device, just comes down to the user and what they want. Me I would say yes, but I wouldn't get rid of Note 8 to get one. I was lucky and had another upgrade so was able to do that but I understand for some that is not an option.
NOTE 9
The Note 9 is an outstanding device, coming from the N8 however there are only a few things that scream yes. It just depends on if these are worth anything to you?
1)Better Fingerprint Location
2)512gb available Storage option
3)8gb Ran Option
4)Better Battery life
5)if you like the bluetooth S-Pen features.
It's a refinement on the Note 8 and done well, Samsung were never ever going to implement golden features to the Note 9 (Eg UD scanner ect) with the 10th Anniversary next year.
This also brings into question, perhaps hold off for the S10 and if you can even the Note 10.
However I can say the Note 9 is an absolute joy to use.....:good:
I have both. My 128GB Note 9 is my primary, though on e my 512GB Note 9 gets here tomorrow, it will be my primary. My Note 8 is my backup.
Honestly, there's very little difference between the two as far as everyday useage. The battery life on the Note 9 is better, but I never had a problem with the battery life on my Note 8. The Bluetooth features on the SPen are cool, but not a deal maker.
Don't listen to anyone about fingerprint sensor location. If you have a Note 8, you know as well as I do that you got used to the FP sensor location within about 10 minutes and never thought about it again.
The camera has some slight improvements, but now that the Note 8 has super slo-mo mode and AR emojis, the difference is negligible.
Is it worth it? Maybe not. But do I regret upgrading? Not at all. But I'm a gadget guy. I have the newest and all the bells and whistles. It's really up to you. If you're happy with your Note 8, you'll love the Note 9...cause it's basically the same device.
For me it was, battery life and stereo speakers. Apart from that it's the same for me. Still worth the it
Ok, yeah the stereo speakers are a really nice upgrade.
You'll immediately notice:
(1) Way better battery life.
(2) Stereo speakers are so much better!
(3) Feels quicker and Bluetooth features are cool if you're an s-pen user.

Thanks, Duncan1982. Some good points about holding off. Just one year to go. The fingerprint sensor location is the only thing which is inconvenient when holding the phone with one hand. (My hands are medium sized I expect.)

In my opinion it does feels better kinda of skinnier then again it is almost imperceptible most of the time. It's all a matter of choice if you will like I prefer to use my devices 'naked' without cases and such, they are so beautiful that it would almost be a crime to hide them. Also nowadays we find ourselves helplessly multitasking and it helps to use the phone single handed something that it is not always so easy with the Note 9 or the 8 for that matter, it seems like the new One UI will address that area positively. Lately I've been using a Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design and that may be why I feel the Note 9 so big sometimes yet the Note 9 remains my favorite, the Huawei is a beautiful device running EMUI 8.0.0 which would be like the Samsung Experience of sorts and it is in the same boat as Samsung with the Android 9 update schedule for 2019. Good luck with your decision !

We should say thank you for taking time to try and respond to each comment with your input. For me that's what I like to do get several views on a topic even though its ultimately up to you. Good luck my friend.
NOTE 9

So with the Note 9 only about 1 months and 7 days away and plenty rumours/leaks going, are you considering upgrading your Note 5 and if so, what would be your main decider/s for doing so?
I'm well happy with N5 but if I for under 1k can get 512gb storage, 8gb ram, closer to 4000mah battery (maybe even faster charging) camera even better than S9+, upgraded front cam (maybe even a dual) s-pen we know will come with new stuff just not what yet.
Improved DeX experience, Bixby 2.0
Stereo speakers
What else could sway you?
Forget about the under screen fp scanner, it won't happen
Note5 user had to give up note 7, so yes
Probably not. I've had the Note 5 since launch day. If the rumors are to be believed the Note 9 won't really offer much more than what my 5 is giving me. Maybe I can squeeze another year out of the 5 in hopes that the Note 10 will really blow me away.
What would they have to add to make me switch? Killer battery life, I'm talking 2 days of my "normal" usage. The addition of an in-screen fingerprint reader would make an upgrade really hard to resist. I'd really like some kind of surprise, a surprise technology that is actually useful. Dex laptop with a big-ass battery would be a great feature.
I've been really happy with the Note 5 all this time. Didn't feel like the Notes 6 ,7 or 8 have been worth the cost/new feature ratio. I've been using android since the G1 and every phone I've had has been rooted and ROMed, all but the Note 5. Maybe a new ROM will stretch this phone's life out another year.
Hi guys
Actually I use a galaxy note 8 but in September. I need to change it because expire the rent signature.
So, I'm looking for a new smartphone.. And the 2 smartphone that I found are note. 9 or p20. Pro..
It's true that are 2 different product.. And the p20 has not the spen.. But I don't use the s pen top much..for work I started to use a iPad with the apple pencil and I think is better for my use.. The display is bigger than a smartphone display...
So, if I forget the spen functionality.. What is your suggestion? P20 is cheaper (not too much) and his camera is better.
Otherwise, I'm started to use galaxy series or note series 8 years ago, the first one was galaxy s1.... Actually the UI for me is easy to use...I'm scared I loose some function with the p20..
Can you give me your consideration?
Thanks
Sam
this is like asking in the huawei forum whether the note 9 is better...
Yes I know.. But if someone need to compare this 2 device, where must ask the question?
If you're used to the Samsung UI, the Huawei EMUI will definitely be quite different. Especially in terms of how it handles battery management and memory optimization, as well as maybe the lock screen notifications. My friend does have a P20 Pro while I use the Note 9, having switched from the S8.
I will tell you right away, if you want better battery life get the P20 Pro.
If you want the better camera, it's honestly a toss-up. In true real world experience, the P20 Pro's camera is not quite the home run critics make it out to be, there were some scenes where even my year old Galaxy S8 could beat the P20 Pro.
If you want the better display there's no question about it get the Galaxy Note 9 it's not only bigger it doesn't have a notch and well it's a Samsung OLED display enough said.
The real question of the Galaxy Note 9 is, how much are you willing to pay for the S Pen, and Samsung's slightly less offensive software. My advice is try to shop around for a P20 pro deal, as it's been out for a while now. If you can get it for significantly less than the Note, buy that. If the prices are within $100 of each other, get the Note. If you can wait, wait for the Mate 20 to release and see how that looks; even if you don't like it, both the Note and the P20 are bound to be cheaper by then.
Oddly enough, the battery test videos show the Note 9 quite superior to the P20. Not sure what is better because I don't buy off brand phones so I have no experience with them.
Lol, P20 Pro's camera is not better. It just has more lenses. If you DO like taking black and white pictures, go for Huawei. If you like functionality, SAME CAMERA PERFORMANCE, S-pen and overall performance, go for samsung. I used to have Iphone 8+, now i own Note 9. I dont feel any different in terms of performance.
I just sold my p20 pro that I've had for two months, my note 9 is coming tomorrow so I can't compare the two (I did have the note 8 and s9 for a while though) but I can tell you some things about the p20.
The camera has been advertised extremely well, and it is great in low light BUT in real world point and shoot situations it's trash in my opinion. I haven't taken one photo on it that I like, all the photos I have taken on auto are over processed and over sharpened. Any Samsung phone I've ever used has always had a fantastic point and shoot camera.
The EMUI no matter what anyone tells you is clunky and just not enjoyable to use. I feel like the new and improved Samsung experience UI is really smooth and easy to use in comparison. I'm aware you can use launchers and stuff but I prefer to keep the stock launcher.
Although the p20 is advertised as having a 4000mah battery I haven't had a great experience with it. This differs from person to person and usage but I really can't get a full day out of it.
I know it might seem like I'm bashing the phone I have enjoyed some aspects of it, but my note 9 is coming tomorrow and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.
Thanks a lot guys for your really apprecied feedback!
I read your opinion and I thin, again, that my new smartphone will. Be again a note!
Sure, I think the difference respect the note 8 will be not so much, but as I explained, in September expire the relationship with my carrier and I must change the smartphone, and buy a note 8 is not convenient.
Actually in italy the street price of the p20 pro is 700 euroin European version, online.. The Italian versione is slightly expensive, approx 800 euros..
The note 9 will sold 1029 euro, so the difference is 250/350euro,but I can subscribe, is a newest in italy, a subscription with Samsung. I can pay monthly the device for 24 months, with 99 euro of first payment, and obtain a note 9.afyerthis period, I can pay approx 300 euros and the device will be mine, otherwise, I can replace it with a new one..
At the end, I will pay more than 1029 euros but for 24 yeast I have a protection against damage included, and is not a bad things..
P20 pro has not this option, in italy is sold or as a usual with carrier or I must pay it 100%.
About ghe performance...i really stress my smartphone.. I use it for job, I take note during some. Meeting, I use it via chrome cast to watch movies by Netflix or similar, and the integrated dex station function can be a good features (but also the p20 has. This option)
I use also it with camera, because I have 2 children and is always a good. Thing have in my hand a good camere to capture the nice moment of the day.. And this is a good point.. I was sure that the people like the p20 pro camera. Much more than the other. Camera phone, but your real feedback explain a different situation.. I'm not a professional camera man, I need a best camera with automatic setting for this moment, and if you are agree that also the note 9 can be better, this is another good point for note 9.
Finally... The UI powered by Samsung is without secrets for me after a lot of years.. Also, last but not least, when I configure the new device automatically I found saved wifi Hotspot, password and other small information that help me during my Business, and I reduce the stress to replace a new device
Th AK a lot again guys for your explanation.
Ot: somebody with the note 9 can give me a feedback about dex application, in particular for Netflix and autocad application? I think can be 2 real interesting application respect surfing on internet or other solutions

In what ways if you don't mind me asking? I got my note 9 this morning and I am so happy I don't have to use the p20 pro anymore!
@Popmonty battery capacity (sot +40%) and flat screen at start (this rounded screen are totaly pointless for me, expecially on a note series where 10% on screen is useless with pen)! Than, mate 10 pro had stereo sound (note 8 not), much faster (and better positioned) fingerprint, 128gb etc.
On a note 8 side was wireless charging and 3.5mm.
Now in note 9 a lot of things are improved; stereo sound (but still mono for notification except whatsupp app), 128gb base memory, bigger screen and 4000mAh...but who knows what new mate will bring near new kirin 980 and wireless charging. I would wait 2 more months if there is possibility...if nothing, note 9 will be much cheaper in 2 months
Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
P20 pro still uses bluetooth 4.2 while others started with 5.0 like last year? It doesn't matter if I need it or not. For a flagship price it needs to provide flagship specs. Huawei has been known for this kind of **** behind the scene. Who knows what else has been cheaped out on.
Regarding the mate 20 pro... It was also for me a good option.. But I need to finalize the order max in the first week of October because I have to finalize the contract signed with phone operator.. I must return the note 8 otherwise I have to pay another year.. But the cost is similar to buy another one new phone so I will return it.
For this reason I think is not an option for me wait the new mate 20 pro.
Regarding the performance of p20... There are 2 important thing that are not installed in this device.. The 3.5 jack and And the wireless charging... For my personal use the first one is good because in the night in some case I use wired earphone too watch some movies in my bed when my wife sleep.. Are comfortable and I don't want rememberto charge a Bluetooth earphone.. I have the gear icon x of Samsung and I use this only for fitness... And a lot of case are discharge.
The wireless charge instead is good because I have in my office the wireless stand and is confortante charge my mobile while I'm in the office..
Sincerely, I don't know why in the p20 pro there is not at least this option... In fact I read will be integrated with the new mate 20
I would definitely recommend for you to wait and see what the Mate 20 Pro will offer. I am expecting a fairly good phone from Huawei. They have made a few videos targeting the Note 9 so I'm guessed they have something up their sleeves. Also it will have a bigger battery than the Note 9 and also a more efficient SOC being the new Kirin 980 developed on a new 7mn architecture
Only (huge) problem from my POV is that Huawei does not allow unlocking of Bootloaders anymore - so cannot Root or install custom ROMs on Huawei devices - I hope this changes soon.
This factor alone tips it towards the Note 9 for me. Now patiently waiting for a decent price drop - hopefully by November/ holiday period.

Ciao Ryland
Sure, I don't purchase note 9nkr hauwei depending of. The forum. Review, I already found this 2 device after personal. Consideration, also I have already the galaxy note 8, so I know the device.
Because are 2 really interesting phone, and because I use for job and personal use the camera, I just ask the opinion of the other person of the forum, because for example test the camera is impossible and I can only as ask a feedback from somebody that already tried both.
For this reason after some consideration read here in this thread I take the decision to buy the note 9 and I wrote this comment... Because some users told me a feedback regarding a feature that I can't test myself.. Sure I must believe to this person.. But I think also this is the spirit of the forums, no?
huawei's software is trash (and with that locked bootloader stuff u cant even flash custom roms lol), that alone is enough for me to not buy a huawei phone

Rooting is a waste of time in this day and age. If you need to root a phone you are a million miles from a typical user.
The P20 pro is not as good as the Note 9 I would agree, but the software is fine, as is the Note software.
If you need to root then get a Nexus 5 or something.
With regards to the rest of this thread, for me the pros and cons are:
Note : Faster, Slightly better screen, Headphone Jack
P20 Pro : Better/ Louder sounding speakers, Much better camera in ALL scenarios barring indoor low light. Less noise, better zoom, better overall quality, much better low light.
I have both phones right now, and honestly if the P20 pro had better video recording and was a little less laggy on graphics intensive stuff, I would use it as my main phone. BUT the note 9 is a more polished phone and is better in almost all ways barring speakers and photos.

I've currently got an s8+ that has no issues, however I'm really interested in the note 9. To those of you that have it would you think it's worth upgrading to from an s8+?
Yes.... Had an S8+ before my Note 8. Note 8 a definite worthy upgrade to the S8+, Note 9 a definite upgrade from the Note 8.
Note 9 is the best phone available right now. If you love Note phones, you'll love the Note 9. Lots of upgrades over the S8+ with this phone.

I upgraded from the s8+ to the 512 gb version, just for the storage increase. I think it was worth it.
I think it's a worthy upgrade. I got mine thru Verizon and got a decent trade in for the S8+ witch made the monthly payments only $1 more than Samsung financing. I originally gave my wife my Note 8 last week because I purchased a new Pixel 2xl. That didn't work out so good so I returned that and went for the Note 9. I've only had the S8+ for a few days but can say just for the extra screen size and camera it's well worth the upgrade if you don't mind the bill. I can't comment on the battery yet but can say the S8 was doing good for me there.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I've never owned a note but I'm interested in this one for the camera, batter, and s pen. Is the s pen really as awesome as most reviews make it seem?
Best phone ever. Only flaw really is sealed battery.

Ii say definitely, coming form the Note 8, the small upgrades actually have big impact.
I agree. Have had s8 plus and Note 8. While it's not a ground breaking advance over last year's phones it is just a little better in almost every way. If you can afford to, it is 100% worth an upgrade.
As far as the s-pen goes it is something you'll either play with for a week and never touch again, or it will become something that is invaluable to you. I've used Note phones since the 2. Skipped the 5 because it didn't have an sd card slot and was devastated when I had to return my Note 7. I use the pen almost every day at work and while I could live without it my workflow would become less efficient for sure.

i came from the s8 plus and i have no regrets. More storage, better battery. A little bigger screen. Brighter Screen, Better speakers. S pen ( if you use it ), More ram ! better processor ! come on homie. Make that switch
I say if you can pick it up go for it. A lot of people who has a Note 8 can't justify the move because of the price point but I made the switch. This is coming from a guy who was trashing Apple for their iPhone X price. The Note series are the only phones that excites me and all of the added feature did not make me hesitate (maybe a little)

It almost 2019 and we have seen a lot of devices coming out. After looking at all the devices I think I have made the right choice of buying Note 9. I mean everything is amazing in this device build quality, display, performance, and battery its a combination of those in a perfect way.

Yea it is amazing except charging speed not great at all
And camera at night not great like my old p20 pro
But overall note 9 is impressive
For the price I disagree. It's a nice phone my first note but I should have waited for the s10. I only got it for the bogo deal which is actually a rip off with Verizon since I have the old unlimited plan. End up paying 55 a month for the second phone and will end up paying it off soon cuz that will end up costing more if I don't. The 5G S10 looks enticing and might end up upgrading lol

It almost 2019 and we have seen a lot of devices coming out. After looking at all the devices I think I have made the right choice of buying Note 9. I mean everything is amazing in this device build quality, display, performance, and battery its a combination of those in a perfect way.
The Smartphone of the Year is Note 9.

Agreed. With the new s10 not having a headphone jack, I don't think I'll be interested in it at all.
Yes P20 pro is better

And camera at night not great like my old p20 pro

Yes I agree that P20 pro has better camera compare to Note9.
But P20 pro is a device which is mainly designed for camera

Yep, also I cannot do a notch screen on my phone. I hate it. I had an LG V10 a while back and that was as far as I was willing to go with a non rectangular screen. I actually really liked the build of that phone.
note 9 is one of these devices that will never happen again in a long time period. but SAMSUNG is at that point where u expect everything so no one appreciate anything. and this is coming from a note9 / oneplus 6 red user and i love using both, so not a fanboy here
software wise, they talk about vanilla android experience with pixels or half a second faster with oneplus or iphones, in the same time i cant see any of these phones have multi window support (i mean real multitasking not 2 apps opened in the same time) for apps ! none have 2 apps in 2 windows running at the same time, none can run 2 Bluetooth devices out of the box, none have the magnificent gallery or edge shortcuts or other samsung addons.
also for the camera:
one of the best hands down, and yes huawei and pixel are better for photos "on auto" but note9 has 4k 60 fps, better sound recording, and unmatched multiple super slow motion recording
now screen wise, hands down the best. design, is awesome notch-less design, battery is great, headphone jack, ip68, dual speakers, DEX and VR and 360 cam and other accessories.
oh and lately i read and hear oh huawei or oneplus is so generous with in box accessories! i mean really ? they have usb2 to usb c dongle or OTG dongle or AKG headphones or quality case u can actually use in the box ??
but again, samsung is doing this for a long time, no one expect less.
I actually came from a pixel 3xl. Lovely phone, good battery and the camera was just insane.
Swapped for my note 9, and I don't regret it at all. It's better phone, the battery is ridiculous - on 4hr sot at 50% - and it's just fun to use without being boring. The camera is good but just no way near the pixel, however the Bluetooth pen and taking photos from afar makes up for it with my daughter!

Android authority after testing a lot of devices even they agree that Note 9 has the best Display.
Note 9 the best
I'm so happy I picked up s note 9. I had reservations because the note 10 but now seeing s10 Is going with camera hole in the display that's off the table for me until they can hide it. Imagine if TVs had that hahaha
I just got a Note 9. The first Note I had since original Note. I have used all the Nexus/Pixel devices through the years as my daily driver. I did try a S3 for awhile but couldn't get over all the bloatware. After using the Nexus 6P for 2 years I switched to the Pixel XL 2. What a nightmare that phone was. Between the hardware issues and new bugs with each update I got rid of it for a S9+ What a nice peice of hardware. A couple of weeks ago I had a choice between Pixel XL 3 or iPhone Xs Max. I went with the Max. Couldn't get use to iOS and the Max made me want a bigger screen so I ended up with the Note 9.
What a terrific device. I love Ubuntu on Dex and found a few features of the S Pen to be handy too.
I no longer care about fast buggy updates and quality means everything to me now. I'm
My problems with more 9 are
Camera is average
Battery is not great at night and shutter speed is bad
Fast charging is a joke
Sound form headphone Jack is ugly besides my old nex s

The same can be said for just about every single phone and its eventual successor.
The Note 9 is the last of its breed - big screen, big battery, no notch, headphone jack, good camera.

Yes If you compare the device with the price then there will be only a few devices which can be sold. Even if you do the comparison also Note 9 is best at that price in my point.

I don't think the Note9 camera is AVERAGE. I would say that the camera captures decent pictures with high quality.
And the battery life is good it lasts a day.
But I agree that sound quality is not up to the mark.
And it is here the official Android authority report says that the Best readers choice award and the best Phone of the year is the Note 9. Once again we proved that Note 9 is Best.

Hi guys I am starting to get bored of this phone and looking to purchase a Note 9. Has anyone else done same. And as I am in uk how is Battery life on exynos version.
Well, I'm coming from a OnePlus 6 (8/128GB version) to a Note 9 (6/128GB Snapdragon version).
I can say the overall experience isn't as different as I thought it would be. I got used to Samsung Experience rather quickly. Haven't used the OP6 since getting the Note 9.
Check out the battery threads to get an idea of what to expect for the Exynos version. I get around the same battery performance with both the 6 and Note 9, but one has a FHD screen and the other a QHD screen. One has a stock Android experience, the other has tons of bloat (including processes).
I've got a Oneplus 6, fancy a note 9
The 2 things I love the most is the gcam hack and clean android
Whats the best note to get for using it the gcam hack with the sd845 or exynos? And are there any fully working clean android roms again is it better to get the sd845 or exynos?
Thanks
I had the OP5T and got quite bored with it also and i got the 512GB Exynos N9 and am quite enjoying it. I am also running Samsung Pie beta and everything is good. Just a lot more bloatware on Samsung compared to OP5T. I haven't looked back either
I also came from a Oneplus 5T and while I wasn't bored with the 5T, I just felt like it was time to upgrade. My decision came down to the N9 and the Oneplus 6T. Originally I purchased the 512GB N960DF/DS because of the unlock BL potential but quickly returned the phone because the signal was horrific and I was missing important LTE bands on ATT. I then bit the bullet and decided on the N9 US unlocked version. I am an admitted itchy finger custom rom flasher and I've always had unlocked phones in the past that allowed rooting. Obviously, the N9 US has locked BL so no root or TWRP. To be honest, I haven't even been bothered with the non ability to root. I really enjoy the stock version of the phone and I've grown fond of Samsung Pay, Knox encryption, Secured Folders, and Bixby. Root on this phone would obviously kill warranty, trip Knox and kill the ability to secure the phone properly. For a $1000 phone, that's too much of a risk if I ever have to put in a warranty claim.
The N9 IMO is superb in every way especially in the screen, audio, and overall speed department. Battery life on SD845 appears to be similar to my OP5T but that's saying a lot because the battery on my OP5T was heavily tweaked using custom kernels. I'm happy with the Samsung Experience thus far so my only worry is that I don't get bored with the locked BL down the road. This is the reason I bought the N960U1 unlocked version that cab be used on ANY network CSMA & GSM for better resale value. I did flash ATT firmware to get my carrier features such as Wifi Calling, Volte, etc but I will simply flash the stock unlocked firmware when it's time to sell. I feel like I'm winning in this deal so far! Good luck with your decision.

Same here have the 6T and just place a order for Note 9 gonna use it for a week or 2 and decide which to sell or send back
Well for the price I'd hope the Note 9 is better. I have both and use both for certain situations. I use the 6T on the weekends, love stock, clesn and slightly faster overall. I use the Note 9 when traveling, work

I mean I don't disagree, for the money I think it is a nice phone I just prefer the note. I mean I didn't full retail for 512 gb note 9 but I didn't either for my 6T. About $570 vs $930. Is the note 9 double the phone of the 6T? Nah but did I use the note 9 more when i had both, yup. i am trying pixel 3 now to see how it compared with a price in between the two

I pulled the trigger on a brand new note 9 for £590
My op6 is the 256gb version and therefore was only 20 quid less
I have the 6T 8/256 and the Note SM-N960FD 6/128, and have been trying to pick one to use and one to sell. By buying the Note on Black Friday I paid the same for both phones ($630). I'm in the US on T-Mobile and require root. It's a really tough call. The 6T is a better pure phone for my needs but it's hard to pass up the amazing hardware on the Note.
6T pros:
Form factor & high screen:body. Speed. Useful mods & minimal bloat. Great battery life & SOT. Dash charging. Full TMB support w/o hacks (LTE bands, CA, VoLTE, Wi-Fi call/text). No issues w/root & encryption. TWRP can decrypt data. Similarity to Pixel makes features like GCam easier to port.
6T cons:
Screen & camera not best in class. No SD slot. No notification LED. No headphone jack. No wireless charging. Weak vibration motor. No IP certification. Curve of display corners.
Note pros:
Screen A+ from DisplayMate. Great camera w/2x zoom. Stereo speakers w/Atmos. SD slot. S-Pen. DeX. USB 3.0. Rear fingerprint & iris scan. Some Samsung features & apps add value.
Note cons:
Exynos performance per AnandTech. Modem missing TMB LTE bands & CA capability in US. Loss of features/value upon rooting & tripping Knox. No warranty. Root & encrypted data don't like to coexist. Proprietary Samsung encryption (TWRP can't decrypt). Samsung bloat in background processes. Proprietary IMS/VoLTE stack. Broken MTP file transfer on Mac. Slow OS updates. Size & squared design. One UI in upcoming Pie release wastes screen real estate.

Why do you "require" root? Not sure how note 9 slow os updates are a negative I have unlocked note 9 and get regular updates every month like a pixel device. Pie isn't that bad if you use it. Few things they need to fix but it isn't a negative about the device thus far
Update received my note 9 but glad I did not unsealed it as the online retailer (John Lewis) does not accept returns on unsealed item unless faulty. Guess gonna have to keep 6T.
I sold my One Plus 6 for a Huawei mate 20 pro I had to put 600 along with OP6 because I wanted the Twilight 256 GB version. Big mistake.big. Huge. I can almost guarantee that if your a power user you will be disappointed with the Note 9 it will slow down and all the preloaded bloat will really upset you after a while. The Huawei is one of the fastest phone's on the planet right now but certainly doesn't feel like it. If you're used to snappy performance few handsets will feel like a OP6 in my opinion and I have no allegiance to any brand for me it's the speed that is everything. Benchmarks don't mean **** in the real world and the Huawei was like a son of Samsung. I had the last Note 8 and many Samsung's over the years and again it just began to irritate me after time. I do understand your boredom that's always a problem for me I was lucky to sell my Huawei this side of Xmas and now my fingers are wrapped around One Plus 6 T McLaren edition. God it's good to be home.

I have both as well and it's really a tough choice. I have the 6T 8gb/128 and Note 9 128gb dual sim. The OnePlus is faster at everything while the Note 9 seems to do everything slightly better. It my hand, the 6T feels like a better form factor, but the screen of the Note 9 is beautiful (and less rounded, not sure why OnePlus rounded the screen so much!).
When I need stuff done quickly and painlessly, the 6T is my pick. When I have time to kill or want to watch videos/play games, the Note 9 is amazing. Also, to me, the Note 9 is not usable without a case. The combination of dry hands, heavy phone that's slippery and curved edges means the phone slips frequently, I constantly touch the edges of the screen with accidental taps, and after you put the Note 9 in a decent case (I use spigen neo), turns a large phone into something even bigger.
You probably know this but the Note 9 is a bigger phone but the screen is the same size as the 6T.
I'm leaning towards the 6T because it's fast and reliable, not the most exciting but if I get bored, I can easily root it and tinker. Also, when Android 10 beta is released, I won't be waiting months for it.
I'm in the same boat trying to decide which one to hold and which one to flip, between Oneplus 6 256 vs Note 9 128.
Both have their pros and cons. What's so far making me lean towards Note 9 are the speakers, screen size, battery & better vibration motor. I've already rooted my Note 9.
What I'm missing from my Oneplus 6 is the super fluid stock like Android Pie experience, better hand grip & size, faster face unlock, faster fingerprint and stability with the apps. Battery life is one of my big concerns on OP6 which is good, but not even close to Note 9. Although ones deciding against the OP6T, it's pretty close to N9.
So far holding on both.
Thanks!
I have both. I moved on from note 9 to 6T. 6T while it has smaller battery lasts longer than note 9. Even with One UI. Note 9s standby drain is significantly better on One UI but overall 6T lasts longer for my day to day use.
Speaker is definitely better on note 9 but I rarely use the speaker.
things that keeps me staying with 6T is size of the phone, Google camera port, and stock Android feel.

The size of both phones is almost exact width wise and note is just a tad taller
forgot to mention the biggest issue with Note 9. connectivity consistency. I know a game might not be the most effective way to testing, but sliter.io which is an online game that is dependent on having a low latency connection, is horrible on Note 9. Under the same conditions, Note 9 CONSTANTLY, and I mean CONSTANT, lags and studders while, my 6T, Iphone 6, Iphone 8, Ipad 2018, Pixelbook, doesn't.
Other connectivity problem is bluetooth. 6T is consistently more stable at longer range.. roughly 2x the range of Note 9.. again under same conditions.
