Nova Policy Change - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

I just wanted to share my experience with Nova Launcher Prime and their changes to their family sharing. This is effective immediately. It's sad that I really enjoy the app but this is to mainly inform those who share as a family.

Could you explain in a few simple words what just happened?
Thanks!
All my family members have their personal Prime since.. I don't remember when.
Does it affect me in any way?

I wiped my step daughters phone trying to resolve an issue with he screen not turning back on. Though it was a deep sleep issue. When I restored the OS it wasn't listed as able to download. In the screenshot it gives the date of purchases affected by the new policy. I have this app shared with wife and kids. I imagine they will eventually push an update to block my wife's app.

What's the change? Was it permitted to share with family members prior to 07/02 16?

3char

Yes, I've been sharing it almost since they came out with the family sharing. I've owned Prime since July 2012.

I never knew this was a thing either!

Yeah, I have Prime but never heard of this family share...

Does this include the beta version?

It's a thing Google play offers for purchased apps and games.

I'm pretty sure I'm a beta tester, don't think it matters. Keep in mind this isn't saying everyone has to repurchase the app, just cuts the date off for older purchases directly related to family sharing.

There are plenty of other good launchers out there. Apex is pretty much the same as nova. Hyperion is another great better launcher than nova that is made by the same people who developed substartum. Hell, we have a ton of amazin launchers here on xda. It's not like nova is the only good launcher. I know it's sh$%ty of them to do that, but I'd go with other options if I were you.

I dont understand what the OP is cribbing about.
Family share is valid from July 2016. It is totally up to the dev to make it family share or not.
The price of the app is so small compared to any single device you purchase and the support is amazing.
Cannot understand why people want everything for free... Can you not see the amount of time the devs put into these apps.
No wonder why some good apps are dying out.
Also if you dont want to purchase use some of the other launchers out there.. There are many that are free

Agreed. Can't believe someone is making a big deal over a few dollars.

It's 80% off right now so it's only 99 cents.

The "loyal customer" line made me laugh. If you really cared about supporting them, you'd purchase their (very reasonably priced) app again and move on.
Such entitlement.

Nova is worth more than the price they ask for, just buy each member their own Prime.
And how can you call yourself a loyal customer if you ever only bought that one thing from them and then went on to abuse a program they're a part of?
It's amazing to me that they continue t support this cheap app instead of brining out a new version to buy.

Want Words With Friends on Android? Try WordFeud!

I just saw this game on another site and decided to give it a try since it's free. I've been want Words With Friends or a decent clone for awhile. Wordwise Pro just doesn't fit the bill. So far WordFeud is great given it's really new.
http://wordfeud.com/
PS: I'm not getting paid to promote this. It's just really fun and I'd though I'd share.
Add me if you want to play. My ID is Snapshotx
Awesome! I have been looking for something like this. Thanks so much. Just started playing you, username is Foobu.
Thanks for the recommendation! I have been missing "Words with Friends"
Anyone can add me for a game as well. My ID is dweebs0r.
wioooow this is the most exciting day I have ever had work my captivate, please people just uninstall word wize loool, that's is it,this is actually better than words with friends, all it needs is sounds, and an option to pay for a add free version, if they make this a cross platform words with friends is going to be yesterdays news
The reason I want words with friends is so that I can play with my fiancee on her iPhone.
tell get to get a android then you can be reunited with word feud again lol
Having alot of problems staying connected

Been playing it with my coworker since this morning, lol... Btw, is there a way to resign even if it's not your turn yet?
yes, this is MUCH better than WordWize - almost exactly like WWF.... if anyone is up for a game, feel free to invite me: Aftashok is the name.
man I used to LOVE words with friends on my iPhone. Thanks so much for sharing this!!!
If anyone wants to play just add: smeltn
i wish the game would incorporate a ratings system and win/loss records..... the competitive me wishes for such things.
Wish there was at least a paid version to get rid of ads, hopefully that will come cause i dont mind paying a dollar to support the developer on this, pretty good so far and the people over at WWF probably wont release anything for a while. Thought that games that were won/lost didnt go away but apparently they do after 2 days, needs to be sooner than that or user removable.
Name: hollaholla
Sweet!
Mine is TexUS.
It'd be nice if WWF would show up on here though so I can play with iPhone people.
This game uses a lot of data, like 1MB in 1 Minute.
Is there anyway to stop it from using data when you're not in a WiFi area?
thanks for the heads up...
awesome game...
PS: not to thread-jack, but has anyone found a good boggle clone out there... with randomly oriented letters like the real game?

check out wordup. it's a "boggle-like" game.
on topic, word feud is fun. checking out how much batt. it takes with the push notification and multiple games. add me for games: funthony.
I gave this a try a few weeks ago, after using WordWise for 2 months...and I wasn't a big fan. The lack of a paid version, updates, and stat tracking was kind of a deal breaker.
WordWise was admittedly spartan when it first came out...but the developer updates the app fairly regularly, so I think I'mma stick with that one...until it gets abandoned or WordFeud updates. Heh.

[Q] Prices for apps

I couldn't help but notice that, on average, the Android market apps are much more expensive than apps at the iTunes store. Is this because there is much less of a clientele? If I look into the apps for jailbroken iPhone etc. the prices are more similar.
Do you guys think that the prices will come down once the Android community grows? For now I love to support programs I use (e.g. SetCPU) but over time I'd like to get the "99 cent" apps as well
The problem is kind of the opposite from developer's pov, the lions share of apps on our devices are free. Partly this is offset by ad revenue. Some of the higher prices also have to do with exchange rates, and the relative weakness of the dollar these days,

I have not paid for an app yet on my Android phone. You have to look around. I don't think I can agree with your comment though about ITunes being cheaper. But, to my defense it has been awhile since I logged in on there. It seems like I was always paying for something on my iPhone

that is the exact reason for some of the problems lol. android users, perhaps because they are smarter, rarely pay for apps. apple users seem to be the same people that a couple years ago were paying 5 dollars for a 15 second ringtone lol. the whole "willing to pay" aspect of the apple fanbase is the main reason why media companies, corporations, etc love to push and develop for iOS; sometimes makes me wonder if i would be happier being a chump.
real lesson though: donate/pay for android apps people! (i personally prefer donate model, but people love to be free riders, so that might not work)
Thanks for all the input! I agree with all of you. When I pay the devs here at the Android community I feel like I pay someone in person. At iTunes it will most likely be gobbled up by Apple (30%) and the big software corporations.
The main reason why I posted this was that I saw the same game at the Android market for 250% of the iTunes price... If I think something is worth buying (or donating to the creator) then I'll do it. Heck, I'd even be willing to pay if someone would develop a stable Honeycomb ROM for the NOOK!

If you have a problem buying apps, dont ever expect us to have the quality of iPhone apps. Its bad enough that android owners are seen as too cheap to support app development.
Let's be honest, why would more developers start developing for android when they can't make the money to make it worth their time. If you have a problem with paying 10 cents, don't expect android to ever have the quality of iPhone. App developers on iPhone can get up to $10 for their app, and android has problems getting users to pay 10 cents. Where do you think the majority of app development is going to take place?

Beautiful Widgets is a great app that I purchased at full price a long time ago and was definitely worth the money. Support your favorite apps. Try them out for free and if you like them, support the developer. The future of android depends on developers getting support or developers will stop developing and we will be stuck with a bunch of apps that are developed by high school and college kids who will eventually follow the money.

Damn dude, harsh comment but so true. Its makes you want to go on about how we Android users need to stop being cheap.
I've actually purchased beautiful Widgets 3 time prior @ full price because my Google acct didn't save that app. It was the only paid app it didn't save. I purchased it repeatedly only for the fact of supporting development. I agree 100 percent in supporting developers. I've donated chose paying for apps instead of getting them for free. I'm giving out the information for people to do what they please with, along with everyone else. If people want to never have to pay for anything, then they will be that way regardless. People need to truly appreciate what these developers. Give thanks, give feedback and always always always donate if possible.

I agree about paying and donating. What's really crazy is how people complain about ads in free versions. I think its great, if its an app I use but not often then I'll deal with adds, if I use it a lot I'll buy it. Either way, support the devs

I agree. It's like some people expect the app developers to develop for free. While some may, its not an effective way to get better apps on our market.
One thing that I do with some paid apps that interest me but don't offer a free version to try out, is download it from one of the free sites then if I like it, I buy it, and if I dont, it gets deleted. One app that I highly suggest doing that for is the 3d SPB Launcher that costs $15.(personally think that development company got greedy by charging that much for a home launcher without offering a trial version for users to try out before spending that much on an app)

The heck with us, average users LOVE this tablet!

We here at xda are tinkerers and perfectionists. We care about esoteric things like benchmarks and measure load times by the millisecond. The slightest hitch and we can't sleep at night for the nightmares of lag monsters and stutter beasts. We flash the newest rom just to flash something new and risk burning our expensive toys up overclocking them until they BSOD.
But you know that the reality is we enthusiasts make up a tiny part of the market for this tablet. Read the reviews of everyday users at retail sites and they are THRILLED with the gorgeous screen, speed and functionality of this new marvel. They regularly comment that the Tab S is THE BEST tablet they have ever used...period. Most of them even like Touchwiz, god forbid.
And you know what? Samsung doesn't make tablets for us here at xda, it makes them for Joe The Jackhammer Operator and Suzy Homemaker. It makes them for average folks who would sooner watch paint dry as spend 5 minutes arguing technological nuance at xda.
So yeah, the Tab S isn't perfect (what is?) but for the folks it is designed for it's pretty damned close.
Although you have to be a techno geek to even be aware of and consider buying the expensive Tab S.

Using Chrome Beta and this tweak (chrome://flags/#max-tiles-for-interest-area = 512) for my web browsing, mostly.
Also using Dolphin for flash and Amazon Prime videos.
Just rooted to remove the extra things I don't need or want, and to tweak the multi windows settings.

Lol wow. You've pretty much gotten to the point where every post you make breaks a list of forum rules. Oh well, I sort of expected that.
Anyway, like I said, don't believe your lying eyes or the thousands of glowing reviews from owners across the web. The Tab S sucks, xRevilatioNx said so and he has benchmarks to prove it! Try to ignore that he constantly contradicts himself claiming that the Asus is both much faster than the Tab S and just as "slow" - he can't seem to decide based upon the argument he is trying to make.
So xRev, there is the vast majority that thinks the Tab S is fast and fantastic and then there's you. Funny, was at the BestBuy website earlier reading post after post about how fast the Tab S is, and then there was just one post talking about how laggy and stuttering it was. I thought, my god, xRev finally gave his BestBuy review! A 1 star review in a sea of 5 star feedback.
The Tab S is an amazing piece of hardware held back only by Touchwiz and in part what I believe are security protocols they implement (you are aware Touchwiz implements security right?). Regardless, most folks love Touchwiz and most people is who Samsung cares about.
P.S., xRev, I think you're lost. Shouldn't you be cheerleading over at the Asus website? And oh, the javascript thread? I won that debate. As soon as you started calling names and using contradictory "evidence" it was over.
Yay Tab S!

I'm just curious. Why does a person who clearly hates the Tab S and considers it "abysmal" spend so much time in this forum? Why not just return it and go to the forum of the tablet they love? I don't think I would keep a $500 tabĺet I thought was terrible.

@ Rev, do you own the Tab S? If so, why since you consider it abysmal? If not, why are you here?
If you read comments from actual owners at retail sites you will see that you are in a very small minority of those who consider this device "abysmal". Most feel this is the best tab they've ever owned. Oh well, as I said why don't you leave those of us who enjoy the fine Tab S alone and go back to your Asus forum?
WHY are you here?
Guys, it's bad enough that you both are ruining the discussion for the rest of us in one topic, but now you're ruining it in others. Neither of you is ever going to "win" this argument so either end it or take it somewhere else where the rest of us don't have to scroll through pages of this garbage.

[Q] [Android] 4.0+ Air Swiper - Price discussion

Hello guys,
recently I was given an offer from a company, which wanted me to sell them my application - Air Swiper.
Now I wonder, what do you guys think the price for the app should be set to?
What could be its real price in your eyes? That is what I would like to know.
What are your opinions? I am really curious about it and I would really like to discuss it with you. I would even like to ask you guys, is the app worth selling or should I keep it?
I am a total beginner in selling things like these and thought, people on XDA could have some idea.

Cant say I've seen the app but intellectual property is difficult to t a price too unless you have sales figures. I would invest some time in looking at the company looking to buy your app to gauge what kind of offer they may be willing to pay, in addition ask yourself does you app have multiple uses can it be applied to other uses ect... and work from there.

More uses means more money.
They want your app at 2500, first offer. Why not counter with 3500 and if the balk then meet half way at 3000. You just picked up an extra car payment. You get the idea?
They want maximally those 2500 so I am curious if I am not going into a fail, because a lot of people told me that it is a low offer.
