Whatsapp not backing up to google drive - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hello
Since Oct 31st, my whatsapp account is unable to backup to google drive. I have deleted most of the pics, videos, audios to decrease the size. I have also tried to change the backup drive account, and have uninstalled and re-installed the app. Nothing has worked.
Is this happening to anyone else?
Please help.
thanks

Maybe it's somehow related to this:
https://bgr.com/2018/08/16/whatsapp-google-drive-backups-not-count-towards-storage-quotas/

Same thing is happening with me since 29th November. If I manually back up then a message pops up saying "Unable to backup messages" after creating a local back up. Must be something with the update. What version are you on? I am on 2.18.361.

Contacts not pushing to Google?

I have noticed this issue for awhile now. If i make a change to a contact on my phone it never gets pushed to GMail. Has anyone else noticed this? I have made sure Contacts was checked in Data Synchronization, i have even made changes, unchecked it then rechecked it and watched it sync. But those changes never make it to Google's servers. I know it worked in RC33 but i don't think it has worked since.
I do a lot of flashing and constantly keep losing new contacts or updates because of this. Its kind of a pain in the arse to remember what and who i changed in my contacts to update when i am at a machine.
Anyone?
Well you can buy mybackup pro and backup your contacts...But make sure you uncheck syncing of contacts in the data/synchronization settings. Never ran into that problem before.
you can try force-updating.
after you make a change, go to settings>data syncronization, uncheck and then check again the "Contacts" field, it will force a sync.
You should consider moving to a cupcake build already too, if only for the camera
Same deal
I have been having problems trying to sync up my contacts too. Everything is correct and the way that I want it on my phone and I want to push those updates to Google, but it constantly fails. Sometimes it fails with an little exclamation point next to the sync icon and sometimes it doesn't. I have tried it on both my rooted and unrooted g1 and I still have no luck even though I switch the sim card. I use mybackup pro and have been for a while but the file output format is nothing that can be uploaded to google (ie csv file) so I'm not sure where to go from here. Anyone have any ideas as to why the sync fails? My only thought is that Google refuses to sync because I am trying to sync a large number of contacts on my phone, with a very small number of contacts on google servers. Xmarks (formerly foxmarks) for Firefox does the same thing, it won't allow you to sync a large amount of information one way without giving you a popup message so your away of it just in case you don't realize that you are overwriting data. Maybe Google servers are similar only without the warning message?
My contacts NEVER sychronized with Google. Gmail works fine, MyMaps also synchronize but contacts and calendar never. And I don't even have these options in Data Synchronization menu (only Auto-synk and Gmail). Any ideea how I can fix this?
Thank you!

[Q] contacts disappeared [SOLVED]-(Dont freeze backup assisstant!)

Hello i am quite new to this, i looked around on the forum with no prevail to my problem although there was a similar post but that had to do with a Gmail contacts list.
First of all, i rooted my Droid 4 phone just earlier today and found this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1541297
I proceeded to freeze all of the apps listed aside from Facebook Authenticator. After i had done so i went to check to make sure my contacts list wasn't going to crash on me and found myself looking at an empty contacts list; except for a few that i had entered manually when i received the phone. I was guessing that it had something to do with freezing backup assistant and its other features so i un-froze them. Went in to backup assistant and synced my contacts when it said clearly that i had 80 some contacts backed up and when the sync was done, nothing had been added. I am going to try a re-boot right now but if anyone has any suggestions please let me know!
-Andrew
no prevail yet again...
i have restarted my phone, defrosted all of the apps i froze at the start and STILL am missing all of my contacts...in the phone app>recent, everyones name was there but i tapped on one and now they are all unknown. also i tried to sync back my contacts using backup assistant but now my backup assistant account has 0 contacts. why on earth would the sync delete the contacts. no single person would ever do that.
sorry for ranting and not capitalizing, i am highly pissed at me, myself, and i.
Also, when i try to sync my facebook contacts, the phone syncs but yet again, no contacts show up. someone please help me out =/ i will keep trying myself though.
Go to your contacts-menu- display options... and check to see what is being displayed or not displayed...
Sent from my DROID4 using XDA
thank you for the reply but i fixed it. it must have been the fact that i froze backup assistant and when i did it threw all of my contacts in the trash on the verizon website for backup assistant so this thread can be closed as solved?
Thanks again,
-Andrew

Email app problem after KitKat update

Hi. About two weeks ago, I updates my XZ C6602 to KitKat. SInce then, I've had problems with the Email application. I have it configured with an ActiveSync account from the company. Just after updating, I received notifications for new incomming mail, but when I tapped the notificacion, an empty message(empty email) showed up; when I went to the message list(Inbox), I could only see messages that were downloaded to the phone before the update.
At first, I thought it may be a problem with the update, so I deleted the account and created it again. Contacts & Calendar syncs correctly, but when I open the Email app, the message list is empty and it says "No mail"; opening any other folder would result in the same message. Also, I'm still receiving notifications for new mail, but, as before, when I tap, I get an empty message(no even sender or subject). I have tried refreshing(autosync is already on for all accounts), but with no difference. "Last update" is only few seconds or minutes ago.
I decided to go a little bit further with this problem, so I checked the data folder for com.android.email. On the databases folder, I checked the SQLite files, and, to my surprise, the messages were there! All of them, but there seems to be no way to open them on the app.
Has anyone had this problem? Any idea on how to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

backup data and do a factory reset.see whether it resolves the issue
Hi. First of all, thanks to androidtweaker1 for your suggestion. Unfortunatelly. I wont make a factory reset, mainly because it would take a day or two to backup and restore everything, and I don't have so much free time.
Today I updated the z-push version on the server. I did it because the installed version was a bit old(1.5.10 vs 2.1.3), without even thinking it would make a difference. But, as my XZ gave an error, because of that, I had to configure the account again(to have contacts & calendar sync) and, after that, I check the Email app and surprise! it now shows my messages
So, just if someone sees this at some time having the same problems, try first updating(or ask your sysadmin to do so) your z-push version. Really strange, because de Email app from W8 on my laptop worked OK with the old version.

Why Your google backup account can not be configured?

As shown in the enclosed image, since October 27, no backups were made to google drive storage. In the settings, you can see that no backup account is set up. But in the settings it can be seen that it can not be configured.
I tried to delete my google account and then reset it. I've also set up this account for backup, but no change. How can I fix this hijab?
Has anyone ever encountered such a mistake?
I do not think this can not be fixed!

Question Move from Pixel 6 to Pixel 7 - complete disaster

This is not specific to the Pixel 7, but I need an outlet for my frustration with Google
My Pixel 6 died yesterday while I was trying to update it to 1205. So I got the Pixel 7.
When first starting it, it asked me for my email address and password. No problem. Then it wanted to send an SMS with a code. Since I have Google Fi, I can still see my SMS on my browser. No Google text arrived. I had it resend many times, nothing.
So I used another phone to set up Google Fi to receive SMS on an actual device. Well, same issue, need to receive an SMS to receive SMS
Finally my account got blocked.
Luckily, I was still logged in on my computer and I disabled 2-factor, after which I was able to proceed on my Pixel 7 with only my password. Great win for security Google...
After the setup was done, I saw all the Google SMS on my phone, but still not on my browser. Big gap there.
It also didn't sync most of my settings and my WiFi passwords. I am 100% sure that I have them backed up from my P6, but they weren't synced onto my P7. Big bummer.
I also lost my messages from Threema, Signal, WhatsApp and some others. That's super sad and actually the worst of all this. Why can't Google come up with a good way to automatically backup & restore everything?
If iPhone wasn't so ****ty to use, I would switch today. Super sad & bummed.

I dont rely on google for alot of things mainly contacts , email and pictures everything else gets backed up via 3rd party apps and pc , swift backup (needs root) being one of them.

If you know what you're doing you don't need anything else other than a cable and your old phone. Without that, backup with Google backup and double it up with sms/call backup free program, no root needed. Pictures to the computer and done. Agreed it's not like TiB but nothing is. 3rd party apps like Signal and WhatsApp might need their own backup offline and then restore.
