custom roms with CDMA/Fi support - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

Hello since getting my phone I have played with a few ROMs but all that I have tested don't seem to work fully with Fi. It works in the sense I am able to use T-Mobile however Sprint doesn't work at all. Just wondering if there is a rom or a method to get Fi to fully activate

Any special steps need to be taken for Non-Sprint Hero?

My service provider is Cellular South, not Sprint. I have been running CyanogenMod 6 for around a year with no issues as far as function is concerned, but recently tried a new ROM mostly for speed and a few bells and whistles. It worked great but I had issues with receiving text messages (not sending) so for the time being I reverted back to my CyanogenMod nandroid backup.
I would still like to try a newer ROM but was wondering if there are any issues or special steps I should expect to run into because I'm with Cellular South and most of these ROMs are based on Sprint.
I have no idea whether or not this had anything to do with my texting issue but I just wanted to ask before diving into anther ROM.
Thanks!

ROMs and Project Fi

Good evening XDAers. I just received my Project Fi Sim and Welcome Kit. I love my Nexus, and the openness of roms. Will I be totally unable to use custom roms other than Pure Nexus? Or is there a workaround where I can pick to be either using the Sprint or T-Mobile network depending on where I am an and what the coverage is like. At home and around town it looks like I will have full 4G service without issue, my only concern is traveling, which I do a fair bit of.
One solution I though of doing was utilizing MultiRom. Use the primary rom slot as Stock (for when I travel and such) this way It will do the proper hand off between networks. Then on my second slot use whatever rom I am using for the week, haha.
Any Fi users have any thoughts or comments on this.
I have setup Multi Rom with the stock rom being the stock Nexus 6 Fi specific factory image. I can boot into the stock rom slot and use Fi's network switching. I am able to boot into the second rom stock and successfully get a connection. I have only been able to connect to the Tmobile network on the second rom slot. I am working on being able to pick between sprint and tmobile. I will post back more If I can figure it out.
I have been able to manually toggle between sprint and tmobile on my second rom slot running CM. Will work on a writeup.

Experience with Fi on Oreo ROMS?

Currently on T-Mobile, but will be switching to Fi in a couple weeks. Being new to Fi, when I do switch, I won't really know what all to test to see if it's all working as intended.
If anyone here has experience with them together, do all Fi features work properly on S.i.X. or other Oreo ROMs?

Rom support for Google Fi carrier switching

Good morning folks,
I've been looking at the available roms for the X4 and looks like some good ones out there! However, I've seen comments in just about all of them indicating that the Google Fi carrier switching doesn't work. I specifically recall a comment about it not working in _all_ Lineage based roms. As cool as the roms posted here are, carrier switching is the number one reason why I got the X4.
Are there any roms in which the Google Fi automatic carrier switching is functioning properly?
Thanks!
My experience when I had a Nexus 5x, carrier switching would never work unless you flashed GAPPs with Fi included before the first boot. Are you sure you're using a Google Apps package that includes Fi?

Thank you for the reply Toxeia! Which rom were you using on your Nexus?
I have not yet attempted switching to an aftermarket rom, because of the concerns I've read for Fi (and Fi is the primary reason I got this phone). I think most of the roms I've looked at use OpenGAPPS, so perhaps that is the problem. I'll definitely look into pre-loading official GAPPs before first boot.
I'm pretty sure if you just need to install the FI app from google. Should be no problems.

Does Google Fi Work After Rooting?

Greetings,
I was able to root my first smart phone (HTC Incredible) back in the day with help from XDA. I Installed Cyanogen Mod and was able to continue using that phone for 5 years. My next two phones were Verizon/Samsung and they were locked down tight with no work around.
I now have a Moto X4 with AndroidOne on the Fi network. I'd like to root it and install Lineage. I've looked at all the information here on rooting the X4, and the only thing I am not clear on is if my rooted phone will still function with proper network switching. I've seen some posts saying that all I would need to do is install the Fi app from Google Play, but nothing confirming that this worked.
I'm also unsure if I can run Lineage and still operate on the Fi network.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I fully understand that if something goes wrong, it's on me.
Thanks,
~ Phil
Experience Level: I'm pretty good with a PC but not so much with Android. I've had good luck just following the instructions I find here but I don't really know what I'm doing - yes, I get the gist of it but I don't understand the details.
i am on fi with root and everything having to with fi, including switching works, but i am on stock. i did not realize that unlocking on this phone can't be undone and in retrospect i may not have done it had i known that. updates become a pain to do. i also have google pay working. i think i read that none of the custom roms provide the full fi services. they all will work on fi network as any other unlocked phone would work on their service that is not sold as a google fi phone as far as i know.
