Note 8 Snapdragon - Unlocked Bootloader

Quick question. I know there is a roundabout root method for Snapdragon with SamFAIL, but I am curious if anyone is still working to acquire an unlocked bootloader for Snapdragon, for the full root/recovery experience?

It's simple, take a look at what has been done for current & past Galaxy S Snapdragons. Note phones follow just like the SamFAIL method. There's a reason why people go through the trouble of getting Exynos.
If a method happens to be found/released you will easily find it in a search or quickly in the development section cause it will be big news. Search does work well, if you don't find a method, it's cause it doesnxt exist yet. I personally doubt it will ever happen. The Note 8 is the first time I ever went with an international model for the very same reason.

Wasn't asking if it existed yet, already knew that. As mentioned, anyone with a brain does a search prior to asking to see if it exists first. I was asking if it was still being worked on. Is there any possible way to get Exynos version to work on Verizon?

I'll post a real answer being that all the jerks seem to be chiming in. There has not been an unlocked bootloader on a Snapdragon Samsung device since the Note 4. That was kind of a unique situation because there were Developer's devices floating around at the time. It's never impossible for it to happen, but it is super unlikely for any exploits to allow an unlock at this point. I would even go as far to say that it is almost impossible being that most developers opt out of even owning Snapdragon Samsung devices now and there is likely only maybe a handful of people working on it at best.
To all the "use the search button" people, why not just ignore the post if you don't want to answer it? There is nothing to be gained by being a jerk.

The REAL answer is like @jal3223 says. There are a couple of us working on it. I think like 3...

Is there an Exynos variant that works on Verizon?

It's cause of inability of people like you who do not seem to understand the simple fact that us versions of recent galaxy series have not had any unlocked bootloaders. But unlike any one, you choose to ignore the fact to do some basic search in xda or any other forums. If you feel you are technically sound and smart you should have bought yourself a non snapdragon variant and live happily. Also the dev forum section for note8 has the same q answered multiple times over and over again. Try to keep your pants on before being a sissy to others and ask meaningfully. Peace.

Your so disgruntled. This is not a big deal. It's really not. Dude didn't even ask if it was unlocked, but if it was still being worked on. Which is a legitimate question, even after using the search bar. C'mon guy, stop getting upset, and let's all have some pizza!!!

I appreciate all the REAL answers from those that responded! Glad to hear somebody is still trying, and understand it's a very long shot, but figured since there was a quick root method, maybe there a better chance of unlocking with this Note model.
myechophone may not have found a way to unlock the BL on the Note 8, but he has discovered a way to give himself a period every month, and he is on it right now. Best to ignore him while he has a hormonal meltdown about the forum search.

Well the "quick root method" took advantage of the fact that the s8 and s8+ are very similar firmware and hardware wise. Therefore we were actually looking for exploits for 3 devices at once. It was first found to be working on s8. Then we tested on N8. Sure enough it worked. At that point I had been working on root for N8 for almost a month straight(got my phone early)

Sorry new here.. So am I to believe there is a root method for Carrier unlocked version snapdragon Note 8? If so what is it and does it trip Knox? Sorry for the dumb questions.

For the US 950U and 950U1 snapdragon there is no root for the May update. That is bootloader revision 4 and has no root at this time. Your best bet is to keep a eye on the samfail thread for updates.

If your past U3 were sol for now. I think theres only one guy working on a possible partial root. There are lots of apps for theming. Substranium and Good lock are great.

Before posting I always use the search feature cause it's very usefull. Has you know there are multiple threads and forums and specifically a T-Mobile Model one and its pretty much dead. If YOU read above I said that I didn't see any kind of activity. Another one is that if you read more down below, I stated that all I could find is a SamFail one but it's pretty outdated. So I came here to the Questions & Answers area and posted this thread here to see if anyone had an idea of whats happening with the US models

The thing is theres not much firmware differences between models. They might have slight baseband changes but they're all based on the same thing. So root that would work on a Verizon Note8 would work on a T-Mobile Note8.
And yes, the only one we have is sadly the V3 for those unlucky to update.
And I imagine people would check the last section of the thread to be on standby since apparently theres a new exploit that might (or might not) help.
This is why I assumed you didn't check first, but since you did (I didn't see that part), I apologize.

Thanks for the heads up, I really like the root and all that stuff. Especially for getting rid of all T-Mobile crap on the phone. I'm a person that chages phone alot but I think I'll be giving this guy an exchange for another phone lol. I literally don't last a month with a phone has I like to test other brands and models

Don't worry, I searched everywhere but nothing found. Sometimes you know, people spread rumors or someone may know of something that's been on progress but it doesn't come up on public threads.
I been rooting my phones literally ever since I had an Android phone and always do my reaserch before posting on forums, cause you know there's always the people that come and say "Use the search feature" and always try to avoid that.
And yeah, all I read about was on Nougat. So I'll just asume it's dead.

You switch phones a lot too? Same, heh. Went from having a Note 4 to iPhone 8 Plus, then Note 8, then iPX, then back to Note 8 (cause drawing), but to be fair, I do miss a little of Apple.
To be fair, it's not dead (yet) since the Oreo update landed pretty recently, plus the only tool we had for making it possible got executed pretty much, so I'd give it a little time.
And that search feature situation is a fair point.

Yeah, I have had literally all flagship phones by now except for the Huawei P20.
Last Apple Device I had was the iPX, very good device but the atmosphere of the OS makes it pretty boring to me and get bored at it pretty quickly has you can't make any changes to the look of it.
I got this Note 8, exchanged it for my iPX. The guy that maked the deal with me gave me around 200 bucks and the Note for the iPhone lol.
I love the Note 8, super fast and love the big screen.

I am not a coder or a programmer and there is no need for you to feel defensive about a simple question. New phones are usually rooted within days of being released but it has been a month since the s10 release and nothing. I think it's natural that there would be people like me wondering what's going on. I'm curious about the reasons as to why nobody managed to do it yet...

or they have to make sure its stable and app updates dont corrupt it and brick the phone, else they have people whining it bricked their phone even though theres the standard disclaimer about not being responsible for tears and nuclear war, which a lot of folk do not read. The abundance of help I bricked my phone threads has any relevance to it.

I think the OPs question was more about is there something special that makes the s10 hard/impossible to root since it's taking much longer than usual. I did not feel his tone being "get to it you lazy devs" so people need to chill and stop being offensive thinking they are defending/helping devs by being jerks. We have enough SJW in the world right now...
I wouldn't be worried for root being released eventually, since the official magisk Twitter showed a rooted s10, so it's probably coming. Maybe it's taking long to make sure it's stable and not bricking devices as others mentioned.
The real problem for it taking long to release is that scammers find the opportunity to make money from innocent people and brick their devices, since Google search for s10 root is full of them.

Omg. Most people do that in their spare time and don't charge money for it. I'm pretty shure you have not donated to john wu. If you would follow his work e.g. On Twitter you would know what he is working on atm...

Well firstly this is about twrp recovery, not magisk.
Secondly donate to basically buy a device for someone. Lol nah. It's a hobby yes and also an expensive one. I purchase all my devices outright but don't come crawling up to people to help pay for it. I work hard for my money!
Lastly, assumption is the mother of all f ups. You don't know my history with John, many years ago I helped him before magisk times.

I dont usually comment on such statements because it's just a **** show and has nothing to do with what should be discussed in such forums. But i cant stand it. I also work hard for my money but if something is given to me for free, be it twrp be it magisk be it whatever I would not dare to ask for eta, to demand, to call something lame. Do it yourself if you have such a rich history, i could not care less about.

For US users there won't be TWRP until a unlocked bootloader happens which I doubt from reading around. The better option is if you're an international user and have access to buying the Exynos version, it will have the option to unlock the bootloader in the dev options. At that point it's just porting TWRP. It's a fairly new device so I don't expect anything for a few months. If you NEED TWRP or NEED root get another device.

I don't know which phones the OP is referring to that are rooted and have recoveries within days of release but those phones are not usually Samsung flagship devices and especially not Snapdragon variants. I too am old school in that it's pretty arrogant to ask for something when you have such feeble knowledge of what is involved in creating it. BTW... the Note7 got root but not the unlocked bootloader that would allow development to really take off. Samsung doesn't give two squats about the couple of hundred people for whom Viper is a necessity that ranks with breathing and eating. They care far more about the corporate and government sales, customers who don't want to see their phones hacked.
The ****show will really start if root is available and the dozens of people who can't follow directions start "bricking" their phones.

Title says all. i REALLY need to use the spay or atleast get past "Rooting detected. Use another payment method" also, if i went back to stock rom, will spay work or is it gone forever ?

To answer your question its gone forever, you obviously did not do your research before rooting, people get sick of answering these sorts of questions when they have been asked and answered before because people do not do a search first..
Even going back to stock it will not work.

your answer is incorrect and then you went on to chastise a member for not researching. SPay has worked for folks who have rooted via Magisk modules. There is also work going on in the S10 forum about making it work more easily.
Ive personally used SPay on my Gear S3 thru a rooted phone, which was also supposed to be impossible due to tripping knox. Just to put your idea down before it even pops up, the watches knox wasnt tripped which is what non-believers used as their scapegoat justifying why it worked. SPay doesnt live on the watch, it lives on the phone. Which was VERY rooted and knox tripped.
Dont chastise members for "not researching before asking" when you cant even give accurate information in your scathing replies

going back to stock wont fix it. Check into the Magisk developments as they have had some success masking root. Do you use it on the phone or do you have a watch?

Instead of being a dickhead for no reason, simply answer the question, you got sick of answering ? then dont answer and just move on. people already can use spay thru their sgear but i dont have one. i've searched alot before posting this and haven't found an up-to-date thread about this.

THANK YOU so much for your detailed answer, i was just lookin' for good answer like yours but couldn't, is there anyway to use the spay without the gear ? i've rooted my phone and have Magisk installed everything works fine but not the spay when i try to purchase something off the galaxy store. is there a way to fix that or hide something inside the magisk that gives me access to purchasing via spay ?

THANK YOU so much for your detailed answer, i was just lookin' for good answer like yours but couldn't, is there anyway to use the spay without the gear ? i've rooted my phone and have Magisk installed everything works fine but not the spay when i try to purchase something off the galaxy store. is there a way to fix that or hide something inside the magisk that gives me access to purchasing via spay ?

i would have to go poke around in the S10 forum to find it. But thats one thing ive learned over the decade or so that ive been on XDA, especially as of late with mfg's releasing new phones every 5.25 days. If the subforum youre diving into isnt of much or any help, i guarantee you that there are other subforums that very well might have the conversation youre looking for already going. And very especially when talking about the new blood Samsung phones. They are all SUPER similar these days and the devs are spread out across 73 different device subforums. Dont be afraid to look in subforums of phones similar to yours for stuff.
ill see if i can find that thread for ya, but i completely disregarded it as i dont plan on rooting any time soon due to the finagling you hafta do to get SPay working again.

Ive personally used SPay on my Gear S3 thru a rooted phone, which was also supposed to be impossible due to tripping knox. Just to put your idea down before it even pops up, the watches knox wasnt tripped which is what non-believers used as their scapegoat justifying why it worked. SPay doesnt live on the watch, it lives on the phone. Which was VERY rooted and knox tripped.

Also, you had better get used to the idea that more and more repetitive questions are going to get asked because more and more people now have smartphones than ever before. And they arent forum veterans like some of us. all i can say is that there are people in other forums who state that they have had success with it. SPay isnt relegated to the note. The issue youre experiencing is caused by there being a TON more than just last years irrelevant galaxy phones. There used to be 1 a year, then 2 with the addition of the note series. Back then it wasnt hard to keep all the relevant information on one page and everybody with a sammy phone was in the same group. Not anymore.
Think what you like, but when it comes right down to it, the e-fuse is merely a software controller. There isnt anything that the e-fuse physically interrupts to stop SPay or anything else for that matter. Its all coding. Coding that CAN be circumvented. SPay being broken by knox being tripped is a 2 year old problem, the minds that the old galaxy devices used to have laser focused on one device are now scattered to the wind, but that doesnt mean that the answer isnt out there.

i pop around so much between pages that it would be virtually impossible to find it again and honestly it isnt worth my time. its just like everyone has always said, research before you post. at this point, just go ahead with your thought that nobody has figured out a way to get around the knox issue and probably arent wanting the fix to spread like wildfire which would alert samsung to the vulnerability and patch it. youre right, im wrong. technically not true, but if it makes you feel better, fine....

i think ure mixing up google pay and samsung pay.
if something as groundbreaking as having spay work as mentionned, even with you popping up everywhere, a simple search would make it also "pop up" as well in the results.
annnyways... talk about the blind leading the blind.

nope. the posts i refer to specifically spoke to g-pay not being much of a problem to get working with root. It even went into the process of pulling the SPay app from the firmware and adb installing it after root is done and magisk has hidden root. Im not going to argue about this anymore as your opinion of me doesnt concern me in the slightest. The OP might find the solution with patience and perseverance as some have reported success with it and it is still definitely being worked on. SHealth has been made to work with root and SPay likely uses a similar code to disable it when it detects root. Devs arent dumb. Devs also know that once samsung knows of a security hole, they do the opposite of Sony and patch it. It wouldnt even begin to shock me if the posts got pulled to prevent this from happening to those who figured it out. Im not sure how long youve been arounf xda, but entire threads just disappear from time to time. Mods arent dumb either, they know a lucky penny when they turn up and getting something to sneak by knox is about as lucky of a penny as there even possibly could be.
Like i said, youre right man. Nobody has figured it out. Nobody will. SPay and SHealth are lost causes.

I'm sure there is a lot of posts like this one but I couldn't find the right one so if someone finds it please share
So my problem is that my dad bought a Huawei p30 pro (Vog-l29) and little did he know about the google account.. I did a factory reset and now I'm stuck.. Any ideas how to fix it?
I'm far from pro in doing stuff like this but I'm familiar with a lot of ways so if some one with more experience could just point me in the right direction with names of programs and files I would be very thankful! I've read a lot of ways to do it but then they mention that it won't unlock it.. I have a USB cable for it and a Windows computer, do I need something else?
Would really appreciate some help!

If not, just try 'frp' on the search bar, there's subjects about.
And, of course, you could also go to an official repair center : they'll unlock it for you.

Yeah I get that, it might be hard to believe randoms here but in this case the phone isn't stolen.

When I flash new firmware my Google account is gone and I have to enter my information to start the phone with my account.
Its not that hard to flash the firmware. Follow The guide.

I honestly have no idea of how to do it.. My dad had a number of the seller but the phone is just ringing, no answer. Maybe someone someday will answer but I'm not so sure about that

You must have online emails and ebay or whichever site you used logs from the sale/purchase, phone number of the seller had to come from somewhere
How did you pay for it? Bank transfer/Paypal, both have paper trails/logs of the seller
Find it hard to believe you have 0 proof of purchase and 0 methods of contacting the seller

It was a seller on a facebook-page. He had written the price and a phone number so my dad called him and they spoke about it. The wrote 2-3 messages and that's it. Not much. Paid in cash as well.

Go back to the FB page and look him up
Next time don't buy dodge phones (likely stolen) from random FB people, there's usually a reason why FRP is locked

Already tried it, no answer..
I know, my dad didn't know about this, he thought it was like the old days when people still were honest..

Probably doesn't matter anyway, even if you did get back into it, if it is stolen it will soon be IMEI blacklisted and be useless as a phone in your country

First of all, xda does allow threads regarding FRP bypass as long as it's clearly not for illegal purposes.
Second, if you think it IS for illegal purposes, report it! Don't reply as if you are a Moderator of this site or flame the member. This could land you in hot water.

Thanks but that post is actually incorrect. I assure you we do allow them unless it's clearly breaking the law. It all stems from the introduction of FRP when devices were being sold without the Google account being properly removed. Many users found themselves in this exact situation. They purchased a device that had been simply factory reset. Which was enough before the introduction of FRP but now when they set up their newly purchased device, they are asked for the previous owner's password.
Therefore xda has allowed these threads as well as the actual methods of bypass to be posted. There are legitimate uses.
