Hello all. I'm having trouble flashing a stock rom on my Xperia XZ2. I believe this is a prototype phone (which could easily be the reason why but I don't know for sure - would appreciate it if anyone can share any insight)
I tried the easiest way first (Sony PC Companion) but it does not report any new update for this phone. The over-the-air check on the phone itself also reports that there are no updates.
Here is info about the unit:
Model: H8276
Android Version: 8.0.0
Build Number: 51.1.A.2.158
Crash Monitor, Crash Log Uploader, etc. apps are installed and can't seem to be disabled. They have persistent notifications that cannot be cleared (one of the main reasons I'd like to flash a normal FTF)
The phone isn't bricked or anything - it can be booted and used just fine.
Environment/prep:
Installed Sony & XZ2 drivers onto my Win7 machine
Installed Flashtool 0.9.25.0 (as i have read that lower versions will not work with this phone, and could possibly even brick it!)
Installed XperiFirm 5.3.7
What I have done so far:
I used Xperifirm to download and unpack an appropriate stock rom
("H8276_Bell Mobility CA_1313-8875_51.1.A.11.51_R12A")
I also did it again to get the "packed" version, just in case
Removed "fwinfo.xml" from the unpacked version. I read this on xperiablog.net, regarding creating your own FTF fw).
Removed "simlock.ta" from the unpacked version. I read this on talk.sonymobile.com forum - i don't want to risk sim-locking this phone (as I know it is currently sim unlocked)
Then in Flashtool, used the Create function and browsed to the Unpacked folder location and hit OK
Double-clicked the Device field and chose H82XX (Sony Xperia XZ2), then chose H8276
Typed Bell Mobility into the branding field
Typed 51.1.A.11.51_R12A into the Version field
Moved all the items from the 'folder list' on the left, into the 'firmware content' area on the right
Hit create - It asked "A FSC script is found: 51.1.fsc. Do you want to add it?" I hit yes (even though I don't know what it is... quick research showed that it shouldnt be bad or dangerous)
Waited a while for it to create - now I can see an FTF file has been created in \users\user\.flashtool\firmwares
Now, onto flashing:
In flashtool, I clicked the flash button
Chose Flashmode (not fastboot) method
I could see that the firmwares area on the left showed my new FTF - I broke down the tree to the version number and saw all the files appear in the Content area
I checked one box, which was USERDATA, under the Wipe area (assuming this will wipe userdata as part of the flash)
Then hit the FLASH button
Flashtool prepared and then asked me to connect the phone
With the phone off, I held the DOWNVOL button and plugged the USB cable in
I hear windows detecting the devices (like SOMC Flash Device, etc.) and the flashing begins
After a bunch of lines, I see a red ERROR one (will paste log below)

wow - i had no idea that existed! Thank you very much.
I found the newflasher thread and clicked Thanks for user @munjeni !
(Newflasher thread is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/cr...gress-newflasher-xperia-command-line-t3619426 and the version I used was the latest (v13))
Simple steps for using newflasher instead of FlashTool:
Use Xperifirm to download appropriate firmware for your device
Firmware auto-unpacks to C:\users\yourusername\.flashtool\firmwares\downloads\xxx
Remove any .ta files you may not want to flash (The only one I know to remove is simlock.ta , as I don't want to risk re-sim-locking my device)
Copy the newflasher.exe to the folder that contains the unpacked firmware (example would be folder xxx above)
Don't run newflasher.exe yet
Get your phone into Flashmode (for this XZ2 it is to have the phone powered off, then hold the VOLDOWN button while plugging the USB cable in)
Now you can run newflasher
Newflasher will first offer to install the USB driver (nice)
Follow the prompts (I said "no" to the dump question - i dont know what it is..)
Amazing. Flash successful, can't wait to play with this device.
Thanks again!
For somebody else having the same problem... Another tested solution is:
Another flashing tool helped me find what was wrong...
The boot delivery xml in your downloaded firmware is at the wrong place. It must be in the boot folder within your .ftf file.
It worked for me to flash my XZ3 (H8416)
Change the extension from .ftf to .zip then open in WinRAR...
You can see the boot_delivery.xml out of the boot folder, extract it and save it somewhere...
Delete boot_delivery.xml in the zip, wait for it to be done...
Open the boot folder and drag and drop the saved boot_delivery.xml into it. Wait for it to be done (again)...
Exit WinRAR...
Change back the file extension to .ftf
Done! Try to flash again...
The credit for the solution is not mine... But was able to successfully flash an H8216 using FlashTool versions 0.9.31.0 and 0.9.36.0...
HTH!

I tried to replace flashtool & firmware version, the same results.
I found a problem, when i use a different version of the flashtool & firmware, flashtool log "Current device" always the same, alway is:
Current device : L36h - BX903JXF3P - 1270-9104_R11D - 1269-5309_10.5.1.A.0.292 - CHINA-HSPA_10.5.1.A.0.292
Looks like the firmware does not burn into the EMMC flash, but i unlock bootloader using flashtool was successful.
I tried erase boot & system using fastboot command:
HTML:
fastboot.exe erase boot
erasing 'boot'...
OKAY [ 0.018s]
finished. total time: 0.018s
fastboot.exe erase system
erasing 'system'...
OKAY [ 1.367s]
finished. total time: 1.368s
then i trid flashtool to flash firmware, the "Current device" show still same.
please help. Thanks.

I rooted the phone using towelroot and it seemed ok but then i tried flashing the kernel... any ideas why the flashing failed?
Thanks in advance
Why would you use towelroot when you got easy root method by the dev of doomkernel?

Because TowelRoot is easier to use.
OP, have you made sure that the bootloader of your device is unlocked?

U forgot to unlock your bootloader:laugh:
Hello, my Xperia Z (SO-02E) suddenly fails to boot. It was not rooted, there were no custom ROMs installed, it just stopped working.
When I connect it to charger, the screen turns on, displays the Sony logo, turns off and after a few seconds the loop starts again. When connected to computer it was recognised as S1Boot Fastboot device and led on phone is blue.
First I tried repairing it with Sony PC Companion, then flashed a new ROM with Flashtool (I also unlocked bootloader with Flashtool), but no success.
Is there anything else I can do, or is it hard-bricked?
you can try to reflash another ftf and hope that cures the problem .also then try the link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/kernel-unlocked-bootloaders-t3114234
or try installing the lp zip on these forums .
Thanks for the answer, but nothing works.
Here is log for flashing boot.img:

have you tried to flash ftf and see what happens
I tried several different ftf files, from stock android to lollipop. The program says it is properly installed and to reboot the device, but when I hold the power on button nothing happens.
to reboot try this hold power and volume up till it vibrates and see if it goes to sony logo .at least you can flash ftf so its gotta work somehow
---------- Post added at 07:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:40 PM ----------
you could try to fastboot the kernel from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/kernel-unlocked-bootloaders-t3114234
and install the zip version of lp and run super su to root then see if you get it working .
it doesnt vibrate, the screen doesnt turn on neither does led...
ok, how do I install zip files, with flashtool?
you download the lp zip and then use flashtools to flash the kernel which contains the recovery that can install your zips .
and I copy zip files to sd card, right?
but after installing kernel i cant get to recovery, nothing shows on screen and phone goes into fastboot mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/stock-c6602-customized-10-6-0-454-t3114152
i think you must Rename Philzboot.img.apk to boot.img and fastboot it only works for unlocked bootloaders .
if you have then its volume up .yes you can add zips to sdcard .
I renamed it, and flashed boot.img, my bootloader is unlocked (at least it says I can only relock when i press BLU)
but then i cant turn it on
okay try force power off which is power and volume up it should shut it down and power on and volume down to get to recovery
yeah, but nothing shows on screen, wahtever the combination i press
the only way to get something on screen is to plug the charger in and then the loop with sony logo starts
ah just tested my phone and its volume down just after you power it on okay
the problem is, it doesnt respond to anything i press
can you show it in flashtools and mybe i can have a look and see what its doing
i get this when flashing kernel boot.img

thats okay .so you can access flashtools okay .when in flashtools can you access flashmode .if so try flashing a ftf to see what errors it shows.stock lp dosent have recovery ,but the image you got should allow you to have recovery dont use it till i see what error you got flashing a ftf okay
it doesnt show any errors, but still no response from pressing any key combination

i think the ftf is wrong somehow .i would use flashtools and go to check updates and select your model and select version you want and let it download the files and decript them then select them and create ftf file .
sometimes xperiafirm can have the wrong stuff creating ftf file .so thats why i say this way .always works for me .
Hi everyone.
I'm really confused about this. I'm trying to downgrade the firmware on my Z3c to then go on and root but I'm stuck at the very beginning.
I installed Flashtool and the drivers (had to deactivate driver signature verification for them to install correctly, but now all of them are installed). I installed the Sony PC companion with the support zone addon (not sure it makes a difference).
I downloaded the firmware from 2 different sources.
Developer options and usb debugging are on.
I charged the phone.
I tried with the latest Flashtool version anb the previous one.
But all the times I get the following error message. It basically starts printing out stuff and after a few seconds it says error, aborted. There is no other error message and this really drives me crazy because I have no idea what's wrong. Searching online results in people asking for help when there is at least another error message.
In this case there is nothing.
In the log below, note the time for every message. In the phone nothing changed, it still boots up normally with the 5.1.1 Sony firmware.
I even tried to change the usb cable but it's always the same.
It would be great if some of you were able to pinpoint the source of this problem. I've had and loved this phone for the last few months and I finally decided to root it, but being stuck at the very beginning I'm kind of disappointed at the process.
Thanks

Which version of flashtool are you running? I have been unable to flash with version 0.9.18.6 or above
You might want to download the old version of flashtool and try again, see if it works on 0.9.18.5. If you are unable to find it I might still have it on my PC.

You know this is the Z3 compact thread?
I am just wondering why you are trying to flash firmware for an Xperia C
I would start from the beginning and go through this great guide here. Once you have a copy of your TA partition and your bootloader unlocked, try and flash again.
I am facing errors in flashing z3 are there solutions to flashtool errors win 10 32bit
I installed flashtool with drivers version 0.9.23.2
ticked drivers flashmode, fastboot and common Z 6603 driver.
Downloaded Customized MY (Malaysia) Stock ROM from flashtool xperifirm, created bundles tft, flashed using flashmode.
Error.
