I have a Moto G6, Android 8.1, rooted, and I'm having an annoying issue I haven't been able to Google the solution to. When my screen goes to sleep the audio stops almost right away. This is true for both streaming music and downloaded content (podcasts, audiobooks), so I think it's some battery saving setting I can't find rather than network related. Let me know if any of you have solved this issue or have suggestions. Thanks!

Are you using Magisk? If so, try disabling it and listen to audio while the screen is off. If it doesn't stop, it's Magisk.
I had a similar issue on a Pie GSI where the audio would skip while the screen is off. I haven't used Magisk since.
Yeah, I'm using Magisk. Tried uninstalling it but the issue is still happening. After screen goes black audio is fine for about 30s then skips and stops. Not sure what else it could be...

Check in the specific apps setting under settings, apps, whichever app, and check to see if it says battery optimization. If it's optimized, try switching to not optimized[
Or if you have ambient display disabled, switch it on, worked for me

I've got battery optimization turned off for the 3 apps I'm testing this with, but still having the same problem. I'm not finding "ambient display" in my settings (Android 8.1), but I went into "LiveDisplay" and I have a setting called "Display mode" that was set to "automatic." I switched this to "Off" and the problem went away! Thanks for your help.

I spoke too soon and the problem persists. Any other ideas what might be causing this? It stutters a bit and then goes silent right after the screen goes black. Real deal breaker for listening to podcasts and audiobooks on my long commute, so I'd appreciate any solution you all can think of. Thanks!

It sounds like what was happening to me with YouTube. Every time my screen would go to sleep, it would start stuttering. I guess it was doze causing it and whitelisting it made it stop. I wonder if switching live display to on would be any different? What magisk modules are you using? I know GMS doze and sysconfig patcher will cause that, because YouTube is a Google app

I seem to have it resolved right now. I've got live display OFF and I exempted my 3 audio apps from battery optimization. I've completely uninstalled Magisk though, so I'm not sure if I'll cause the problem again when I re-root. Maybe I should go back to using SuperSU rather than Magisk (?)

This audio problem is back. I didn't change any settings. Live Display is off, audio apps are not optimized in terms of battery. All I did was reboot my phone. Was working fine. I can't figure out what I'm missing but it's a really annoying problem. Any ideas?

I'm coming from the S3 and never had any problems with this, but on the S5 Pandora gives occasional hesitations (real quick skips) whenever I let it play with the screen off. It might happen 2 to 10 times per song, just depending. Sometimes I can go a while without it happening, but can't figure out anything that's different. It does not seem to depend on signal strength at all, as it happens in areas with good coverage. I thought maybe it has to do with the cpu being throttled down when the screen is off, but I'm not sure...but if so, I would think others would be having the same thing happen. Anyone have any ideas?
Uninstall app named 'adapt sound'
Or if you aren't rooted, just disable that app via the app manager. Please ask if you need further detail , I'll gladly assist.
I appreciate the suggestion, but after testing out quite a bit with "adapt sound" disabled, it seems like this isn't really making a difference.
I also should add that I'm usually streaming via an aux cable. After further testing, it seems that maaaybe toggling from the higher to lower quality audio makes a little bit of difference, but still doesn't eliminate the problem. Also, not sure why higher quality audio would be an issue given the strength of my LTE signal when this is happening...
Any other suggestions...
Are you not rooted/not willing to? I used a friends phone (not rooted) to test disabling adapt sound, they were having this same problem. Unfortunately disabling it didnt really change anything, to my surprise. I rooted the phone and fully uninstalled the app, and what do you know, the stuttering went away.
Now there could be a debate here about correlation vs causation, i have no clue how or why this happen(s). Just that it seemed to fix it for 2 phones ive personally dealt with.
I will find the discussion i previously read which singled out 'adapt sound' as culprit & see if there are other suggestions,
I cant believe no one else has anything to contribute
I am rooted but had tested your suggestion out by just disabling adapt sound from the application manager. I'll try completely uninstalling it though and test some more.
Another thing Pandora does is occasionally freeze upon opening after I've used it a few times since a reboot (it'll play, but everything in the app is frozen and the system will warn the app has become unresponsive). So I have to reboot to fix. With the stuttering and this, I had kind of decided Pandora just has problems running on 4.4.2.
Anyway, I'll report back after more testing, but would still welcome comments or suggestions.

I saw posted somewhere else that someone found out that if they turned off adblocking in luckupatcher it fixed it, so do you have luckypatcher with adblocking enabled or adaway? Give disabling that a shot if so and report back.
Sent from my SM-G900A using Tapatalk
I never was able to resolve the hesitations, despite having tried various combinations of disabling system apps like Adapt Sound and MusicFX. I also did not have any ad blocking installed. I was also having both Pandora and Spotify freeze and act wonky right after starting them up, which required a reboot to fix. That problem was more regular, and so I eventually narrowed it down to the fact that it would happen after every time I used the stock mobile hotspot. I was unable to resolve the issue any other way other than flashing back fresh to stock, rerooting, and reinstalling all my apps. Now everything seems to be working, and I think it may have resolved the occasional hesitations too - been listening a couple days and it hasn't been happening like it was before. Anyway, I went ahead and posted about the link between mobile hotspot and my issues with Pandora and Spotify here:

Anyone see their location icon blinking constantly in the upper right corner? It just started this morning. I have had android 5.1.1 since late last week. It's eating my battery. 73% after an hour .
Seeing the same thing after upgrading to 5.1.1 yesterday
What build? I'm on Z and haven't had this at all. Obviously not a common issue. Yet.
sounds as you have an app constantly checking your location. set your location to battery saving.

The thing is that it's not really blinking, it's more flickering really rapidly. Looks buggy. And I've never seen it before. Had to turn off location for quite a while to get it to go away. It's happened twice in two days.

Same issue!
I am having the same issue here. Its not blinking, its more a flickering of the icon like there is a loose connection to a light bulb. Quite odd....
It started just before I update to 5.1.1, sometime after I/O so I wonder if it might be related to the Photos app or another google app update. I hoped upgrading to 5.1.1 would resolve it but it was still there.
I am also on 100% stock android
Same, nexus 5_ 5.1.1 stocks
I've exactly the same issue. Hoping updates~~~ i've notice battery decrease vert fast sincères update. Not sure it's related
One of your applications keeps requesting location access and is being granted then it'll turn off. Find out which application it is and then uninstall the app or deny the location permission to the application.
Or just turn off location / GPS.

I have a Nexus 6. I noticed the issue about 2 weeks ago. I was hoping to get it fixed with the 5.1.1 update, but it didn't.
I haven't been able to find out which app causes this. If someone finds out, could you please let us know?

Boot up in safe mode. Start each app until you find the culprit.
Any resolution?
Has anyone had any luck finding the app responsible for for the flickering icon?
I have started it in safe mode, however am unable to open 3rd party apps in safe mode so cannot find the cause.
Bump
Same issue every startup. 5.1.1 stock. Seems the easy fix is to turn on and off bluetooth though surely there is a more scientific resolution.
I'm been having same issue for some time now.
Today, while location was blinking, I checked the location options and "eye-fi mobile app" (for eye-fi SD card) was at the top of the list.
I have uinstalled it and the blinking stopped...
Will see these days if was the only one causing the problem
I know there's got to be some setting turned on that is preventing me from toggling the apps in Device Administrator because whenever I go to it, I can see the full list, and when I attempt to toggle one of them on or off, settings crashes and locks the phone. I have two apps that have been toggled on, so somehow I was given the ability to do it before this hard to find setting was turned on preventing me from toggling any more apps....
Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

I was getting the exact same issue on my S8+ yesterday. Do you perhaps have the latest/beta version of Call Recorder by SKVALEX installed? With my issue at least, I think it was down to that app, well a conflict between the two versions I had on the phone. May have been coincidence and could have been unrelated of course but removing both (old and beta) then just installing the latest beta sorted the issue, or t least the issue went away at the same time...

Does anyone have problems downloading with google play??
The problem happened around 3 days ago. I was trying to download something when it said "connection timed out, please try again after some time". After a few hours still I cannot load google play nor download anything
I have tried all the solutions possible for google play, service and framework ( clear cache, uninstall updates, remove accout, reboot, clear dalvik) but the connection only works in the beginning then after like 2 mins then "connection timed out" again appears.
For sure my internet connection is strong and I'm sure my ISP is not blocking google play because I can access it via web. What's weird is when I use a VPN, google play all of a sudden works flawlessly.. can anyone help me in diagnosing where exactly is the problem?
I have the same exact problem on my galaxy note 8!. My Google play store won't load anything if I'm on Wi-Fi or on cellular Data!!
But with the VPN it works!
I had a similar problems. I got the Samsung Disconnect Pro app when it was free. I installed that then had the same problems. Turned it off and everything was good. After a day turned it on and now working correctly.

Try looking at your power options, it might be sleeping wifi (im presuming it happening on wifi). The VPN thing might solve it cause VPN usually does not sleep wifi properly

It's not something that turns up on the battery saving list, it's a power saving feature
under

make sure Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is set to always
if i recall moderate battery saving will switch this off

Anyway thanks for the inputs guys, I found the culprit and it has to do with an app I downloaded and installed outside the playstore coz it was not available in my country. Once I uninstalled it the playstore came back to normal.

I cannot confirm anything you describe. It's either caused by a bad or disabled application or possibly faulty hardware. Test your phone at Safe Mode to see if the restarts stop. If so, you need to find out which app is causing it.

Can confirm. It happens to me as well. Not everyday. It is completely random. Happened twice today. After I charged it. Don't know if charging it is connected somehow to the issue. Every android phone I buy just has some odd quirks. No more. After this one I'm done. You barely see any problems like this with an iPhone.

You using a SD card? If so try pulling it.
If you did any firmware update flashes since getting it, factory reset.
At least clear the system cache...
A hard reset may also get it.

Yeah leave that junk turned off... power management is known to cause erratic behavior as well.
How it's going with the random reboots? Do you still have a problem or turning off "auto optimise daily" fixed it?

This is not normal behavior.
If it's under warranty now might be the time... at least get the documentation started.
Have you cleared the system cache?
Try in Safe Mode as pointed it maybe a 3rd party apk; power management apps and 3rd party launchers are prime candidates. Anything that runs in the background when the screen is off.
Factory reset time...
If that doesn't get try replacing the sim card and removing the SD card if any.
If you still can't find it try reflashing the firmware.
It maybe a hardware failure... and intermittent ones can be the hardest to track down.

Nova launcher premium or free and what version?
I'm using Nova Prime, I haven't noticed any reboots but there has been occasions where the fingerprint scanner was switched back to code unlock like it had just booted up. I'll check up time if it happens again.
Latest free from Play store. 6.2.18.

Might want to quit while you're ahead. A buggy 3rd party launcher is a sure fire way to crash and burn a Android OS. Boot looped twice by one on my stock Note 10+.

While I found that it's not better than the native One UI launcher, Nova Launcher didn't boot loop my 10+ into oblivion... lol, a definite plus.
What I found was it was slower and that I lost some features I liked with One UI. It used a lot more battery but some of that was due to tweaking it, but even when I wasn't adjusting it's settings it's battery usage was high. One UI unlike some of Sammy's past launchers is a fast and very stable launcher... hard to beat.
Samsung's are very customizable in their stock configuration, other makes not near as much so.
So yeah I get why you might want use a 3rd party launcher and Nova is at the top of the candidates. Not being at the mercy of every new flavor of OS and native launcher is also more harmonious and productive... so yeah, I get it.
I don't use Nova launcher and I have random reboots. What I' ve noticed is that the reboots were happening when I wasn't using the phone for a while. Also when the phone turned back on an application was active in notification curtain. In the beginning it was TuneIn although I had it force stopped from settings everytime I was using it. After I uninstalled it I didn't had any incident for quite a while. Two days ago I had a lot of reboots in a day. The app working after the reboots was always Samsung Accessory Service, I have Galaxy Watch 3 also. My guess is that the UI is trying to kill an app and it crashes. When I find some time I 'll try a factory reset with fresh install cause my current set up is based on settings from my previous phone (LH V30).
