My new MI8 SE is not my daily use, so I got time to check all available MIUI custom rom (eu,Globe,MiRum,Miuipro,Ros,MS and Masik 1.8.)
At this point no problem, they install very well and they answer my needs.
BUT:
AS EVERYBODY should know that it is very easy to delete the central Password and finger print by the mean of our sophisticated tool (I mean TWRP).
In order to be safe '(without turning back to stock rom) I tried to encrypt the phone WITHOUT success...
Process failed every time with different results (full reset, logo loop for hours, partial encrypt for data only). But was always the point that minimum security can't be reached!
Question:
-Can you well sleep If you mind that you are having all your precious data available in the wind as soon your phone is lost or stolen or even worst let in some bad friends hands...? It takes 1 mn to delete the file without any computer.
I see a partial solution by installing afterward a stock recovery that does allow to trick the system file.
(If somebody has it, I am available to test this option, but don't tell me to flash a stock rom as solution!!)
Your comments/solutions are welcome.
You can have encryption with custom ROM, if the corresponding kernel enabled built-in force encryption.
I'm currently running phh treble 9.0 encrypted, with stock kernel patched by this script:

Thanks for taking care of my post.
This is old now.
I've investigated a bit more and found ways to get MIUI custom ROM encrypted. (for now I want to stay with MIUI stuff!)
I know that almost all AOSP like rom may well encrypt from first install.
My aim was and is still to warn people that without encrypt their phone are open like a lost book.
Thanks for the very interesting and documented thread (link) you directed me to.

If you don't mind could you post a detailed guide to flash our Mi 8 Se. I tried once and got mine hard bricked and i'm scared to try again.
Our forum lacks detailed instruction and it's all hit and trial. And since you have had your hands dirty, could you do that?

Just take care to flash latest 1227 version after EU rom older than 8.12.20 date.
In my view it's a mistake to backup anything with TWRP because as of today nothing is stable. Better to stay with MIUI backup and computer duplication.

That's OK!
you flash 9.2.15 with TWRP 1102 or 1217.
YOU DON't REBOOT THE ROM.
you flash twrp 1227 and THEN you reboot the rom and wait install finish, take some time be partient.
simple!

Finally i got it working following your instructions on the MIUI EU forum. Thanks a bunch. :victory: :highfive:
To others for reference. Following are the procedures that i followed to boot up Miui Eu :silly:
- Flash official 8.12.13 (Dev Fastboot Rom) through MiFlash.
- Flash TWRP 1102
- Clean Data
- Push/ Copy and Flash 8.12.20( EU Rom), it booted up finally without redirecting to Fastboot.
- Update 8.12.20 to latest available from system updater.
- Now there won't be any recovery or we aren't able to enter into available recovery even though the system boots.
- Flash TWRP 1227.

The problem I can't get around is frozen screen TWRP. I assume I have a TWRP/ROM mismatch as I have no issues with Minimal FB/ADB and actually flashing TWRP. But no combination that I have tried has given me working TWRP.
Any advice or recommendations would be vastly appreciated.
Just to be clear, I have unlocked the boot loader, I have Developer mode and USB Debugging activated. I have tried this with the most recent CN Stable (8.0.11.0) and CN DEV (6.12.8) ROMs and I have tried both TWRP 3.0.2 AND 3.0.2-RC1
Frustrated as this device is near perfect, I just need to get rid of the crapware and make a few Root requiring tweaks
Thanks

If you're on the latest EU ROM (weekly updates),you need the latest (EU) TWRP RC2 (link is in the OP) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix/development/recovery-official-twrp-xiaomi-mi-mix-t3498960
Read the entire thread if need be,you'll see myself & others had the frozen TWRP on the Dec2 EU ROM (weekly) update & it was remedied by the RC2 update to (EU) twrp
If you're running anything else,IDK,I switched to the EU ROM ASAP & haven't looked back,it's gonna be my daily driver until CM 13/14 (hopefully) becomes available.

@RMXO had a similar issue when stuck w/an unresponsive TWRP & managed to get his phone/TWRP functional again before @jcadduono updated the EU TWRP.
Take a look at @RMXO's posts in that thread on how he got back to a working TWRP.

I'm starting to wonder of the current CN Stable TWRP is unable to work with 8.0.11.0 much like the problem you had and RMXO had with the last EU release. I had backup of the stable CN ROM that works for me for now, but I'd really like to get Adaway and Titanium Backup working
Best

I had China stable 8.0.11.0 and I managed to get it working, you need to use built-in updater and download EU rom manually and put it in your device. Then use the updater to update. I had to do it twice as first time i still got China stuffs which i didn't wipe. So if you have problem, update it once to EU, then wipe/factory reset the phone and flash again to make sure it's all clean.
A good indicator of success will be google play store, after flashing EU rom, if you don't see google play store, it means you have to wipe and flash again.

I tried to manually install the EU Rom (xiaomi.eu_multi_MIMix_6.12.8_v8-6.0.zip) through the Installer and I received a "can't verify" error. Is this the EU ROM you mean? If so did you have to do anything special to get it to flash?
Thanks

I've used nothing but TWRP to install ROMs on this device, once for the initial switch from the Global (vendor) ROM to the EU (weekly) ROM & twice to update the EU ROM.
FWIW,my MIX was bootloader unlocked out of the box.

As title. I've tried like 5 different TWRP versions linked from all over the Mi 8 forums and none have worked for me. Any and all versions have made the ROM unable to boot, every restart will load recovery instead and I have to flash stock boot to get the ROM to work. Bootloader unlocked, ROM rooted by having Magisk create a patched boot cos every other way also failed.
I'm also looking for it.

Currently https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-0-mi-8-t3837745 this version working but you've to format all of your data then flash your rom. I know its not the standard solution and even I'm waiting for official TWRP for our beloved Mi 8.
You need to choose Format Data first, Reboot again to Recovery, and then flash the DM Verity and Encryption Disabler.
After that, you can go ahead to flash any ROM you like.

Believe me, it worth the efforts! It would be much better than staying with crappy MIUI 10 Global Stable.
Currently, I'm with MIUI EU 10.0.6.0 Stable and I don't want to go back to stock MIUI Stable, just don't forget to install Magisk 17.2 for root access, replace the GPS.conf with your preferred country server URL (I believed it should be Malaysia) - look for a thread by @RainGater for the complete walkthrough - and although it is not necessary, it would be better to edit the default Xiaomi EU build.prop to change the region to match your country (by default it is set to Romania or some EU country, I forgot)

I don't actually have a problem with my ROM. My GPS works fine, and I've already gotten root on my stock Global. Right now in my journey with Android which started with the HTC Desire Z, I don't need a custom ROM, I just need root for the occasional app that needs it I do have root now, but would love TWRP too so I can make full backups. Will check out your links regardless, thanks!

I've got a bit more time to reply now.
OFox is really designed to be used with MIUI. The majority of it's extra features are specific to running MIUI. I would only recommend it if you decide to stick with MIUI in the long run.
The TWRP I pointed to is from the dev who maintains the official TWRP for our device. The unofficial version you've installed is identical to the official version, but with the TWRP app removed. If you intend to stick with custom ROMs, I recommend you stick with TWRP from mauronofrio.
If you prefer to have your phone encrypted, then there was no need to flash fcrypt/DFE. There are a small number of users that continue to insist that we need to disable encryption, but it is not needed.
Having the phone unencrypted does make life a little easier when flashing, but if you prefer the security and want to know about living with an encrypted phone, reply back and I'll give you more details.

If you want to be permanently decrypted, then you will not have any problems flashing ROMs. However, whenever you need to update the vendor and firmware, you will also need to flash the DFE script again.
If you want to be encrypted, then the best thing to do, every time you flash, is to temporarily remove encryption by removing all lockscreen security just before flashing, then once you've finished, restore encryption by adding back lockscreen security. However, if you restore MIUI, then choose to go to another custom ROM, you will need to format the data partition when flashing over MIUI, even if you've removed lockscreen security first.

Ok that means going from miui to aosp & vice versa - format data needed.
So this should similarly apply to all Miui based roms like xiaomi.eu or masik x or it is just for stock miui.

As far as I know, you only need to format data when flashing over official MIUI. I don't know the details, but it is my understanding that encryption on MIUI does not follow standard practice, which is why it it's necessary to format data when flashing over MIUI. I don't believe this issue exists with MIUI based custom ROMs, or when reverting back to MIUI.
Though, there may be occasions, when flashing from one AOSP ROM to another, and the phone is encrypted, when you may get a bootloop. In this case booting to TWRP and formatting data, will fix the problem. This is why I earlier recommended temporarily removing lockscreen security, if you choose to have an encrypted phone, even though this is a rare occurrence.

Hi guys, I couldn't find a full guide here. Mostly scrambled. Can anyone Please dm me or write here , a full step guide to shift to eu rom.
Currently I am on the latest global rom V11.0.2.0.QCNMIXM : MIUI 11 : Android 10 .
Previous xiaomi device I owned gave me a headache whenever there was an issue of bootlooping etc that comes with flashing i.e. it was difficult to get back. What's the situation here.
Basically I want to shift to eu rom with magisk etc.
Please suggest most stable kernel, recovery etc and procedure. Appreciate any help , links will be helpful. Thanks a ton. :fingers-crossed:

I mean the Xiaomi.eu custom rom.
1. Unlock Bootloader
2. Install TWRP
3. Format Data partition with twrp
4. Copy rom to internal storage
5. Flash it via TWRP
DONE.

Yes, Finally Done. Just booted up. Will let you know what all is working etc.
I unlocked bootloader.
Flashed TWRP, using xiaomi adbtool ,
in twrp formatted everything , but not vendor.
Flashed xiaomi eu rom , then again formatter cache and dalvik cahche, and then formatted data ,.
If you don't format data then the device will keep rebooting to twrp.

11.0.8.0 was buggy for me but 11.0.11.0 is really smooth, only issue I have with it is that gestures won't trigger the PUP player so I'm stuck with on-screen buttons. Haven't tried their 11.0.1.0 build because TWRP still can't decrypt Android 10 but I've used it on stock and it was still pretty buggy.
Hopefully Xiaomi will patch it and not just release another broken Android 10 build, this time with MIUI 12.

I am using 11.0.10 , I am not going to use twrp to flash anything anymore so... Doesn't matter to me about it.
But I am finding this to be better than stock miui. Feels a bit more smooth , everything seems to be working just fine.

11.0.1.0 with android 10
i am a mi 11 ultra user, i gought it from China, and i have already unlocked it and flash it to global version Miui 12.5.5.0, now my device shows for an existing update of version Miui 12.5.7.0, which is already dowmloaded to my device, but the device cannot execute it.
i am trying since days to find a way to update my phone to version 12.5.7.0 without success, any body can help to solve my problem.
thank you!
Is that downloaded ROM is fastboot or flashable .zip file ?
xiaomi.eu_multi_MI11Pro_MI11Ultra_V12.5.7.0.RKACNXM_v12-11
this is the name, i don't know what kind of ROM!
The update was received automatically trough OTA or did you downloaded the update manually ?
I had to download the full 4GB or so 15.5.7 update because the incremental one wasn't working.
Please let me know if you need assistance on installing the full update. You can find the rom on one of the threads on this forum.
Good luck !

From the filename it's not the Global ROM but the Xiaomi.EU custom ROM.
This would also mean it's an update to be flashed using TWRP.
Sadly for now the update through system settings doesn't work as TWRP doesn't presently support this feature.
So you need to download the update (which you apparently did ), then boot into TWRP and flash the update from there.

Don't forget that if you coming from any other ROM, stock or non weekly EU, you will need to format your phone, so make sure you have access to your data or back up. This due to partition differences between the ROMs. If you don't, you may end in a boot loop until you do.

Reboot to TWRP ( use can use the shortcut in settings, device settings, my device and click on the 3 dots top right for menu). Once in twrp, enter screen lock password press return. Select install, select update zip file and slide the slider to the right to flash.
Once done select wipe cache and dalvik, slide the slider to the right to wipe, then select reboot system. This will not format your data as long as it's the same ROM branch you are updating, IE EU weekly to weekly, stable to stable or stock to same stock.
It will take longer to reboot first time but as long as you see miui and 5g, just wait, it will be fine.

You need TWRP to flash that
here is the problem, i have downloaded the TWRP and followed the instructions but the device booted in Chinese language, i have mixed up and stopped the procedure!
Did twrp boot in to Chinese or the ROM? If it's twrp, just type in your screen lock password, then look for settings and select the globe to change to English.
If your ROM is now in Chinese, you flashed the wrong ROM.

my ROM is global, the phone was in Chinese and i have unlocked the bootloader after waiting 336 hours, then flash the Chinese ROM to Global V12.5.5.0, after that i had a message that there is a new update to V12.5.7.0 and here i have stuck!
Yay done with the Mi 11 Pro, only thing I didn't notice was reboot after installation not sure where that is, had to manual restart but updated none the less.
