Hi. I have had Xperia Z phones in the past and although i was generally satisfied there were a few disappointments. I wanted to inquire and discuss about the Android Lollipop update for the Z3 Compact:
1. Camera
Based on my own experience (with the Z1 & Z2) the camera bootup is still slower than expected, the shutter button is slower than expected and the picture quality is cooler, somewhat unnatural and an overexposed flash when night shots. This experience is equal to the reviews i have read. Has this been addressed & improved?
2. Speakers
I underatand the waterproofing would somehow make the speakers muffled and it has always been the case with Z phones. Has the sound somewhat improved with the Lollipop update?
3. Music/Walkman
Has there been improvements on the music player such as Flac support, gapless playback and general sound enhancements?
4. Does the Z3 compact support HD voice? And are there any improvements on incoming call quality?
5. Is there a "Cancel All" button on the multitaking pane?
6. Any improvements on battery life?
7. Is there an option to auto set installing of apps & files on the SD card?
8. Any improvments on the initail bootup times? My Z2 lasts 20 seconds. The iPhone lasts less than 10 seconds with an inferior specs.
9. Did the Lollipop update brought back the full Silent mode? (similar to what Samsung did to the S5)
I am not into rooting or ROMs. I don't depend too much on benchmarks either although figures does help. And you can't help but compare to the compettition which is the iPhone 6 and i am curious as to what Sony has come up with taking in complaints & suggestions and translating those into updates. I have not found my answer when i rung Sony Mobile UK. The UK Sony Mobile website also does not provide answers instead very vauge/general information hence i'm curious to discuss and get users' opinion on my query.
Please advice. Thanks.
1-3. No idea / didn't put attention / didn't ever care to remember what was before. The camera quality doesn't seem any better than before, no visible improvement there.
4. No idea, and the call quality was good enough to begin with.
5. Yes, in the later small update.
6. At least as good for me, but the usual YMMV applies. I did go over settings and make sure everything was OK, forced update of Google Services, etc.
7. Not sure, didn't try. Probably the same pm setInstallLocation as before, not something in the menu.
8. Initial bootup isn't a phone's use case - you're not supposed to turn it off. If anything - with the switch to ART the boot time going to deteriorate rather than improve. Comparing it seems as useless as it can be - I have 10 year old Nokia that boots in 3 seconds, beats the crap out of iPhone with its 10 seconds and just about any Android ever, so what exactly does it say? You can boot bare Linux on the phone and it takes ~6 sec to complete, won't help much either. Boot time mostly depends on the OS, and I'm not aware of any efforts in Android to reduce it (unlike, say, Windows, in which it still is the main use case).
9. No, the same modes as any Lollipop - full silent is selected only through volume button. Some programs seem to be able to force it, but it's not a default setting.
So I was appreciating the beautiful display on the Note 8 and it's abilities again today by watching a HDR video from YouTube on it, but I noticed something weird. Whenever I went from a bright to a dark environment, (lit bedroom to dark living room) the screen would drop to a lower brightness, then realize it's in HDR mode and go all the way back up, and it would alternate multiple times as I moved around in the dark environment. It would drop to a low brightness, pick back up to full, drop, repeat. Can anyone else test to see if this is happening with theirs too?
Settings: WQHD+ resolution, Auto Brightness enabled, Video Enhancer enabled

This will help me confirm whether it is indeed a software bug introduced in Oreo/April Patch or if it's my own hardware that's having issues. Thanks for the help!
I would say it is a software bug.
This was happening to me after the Oreo update, unsure what I done that resolved it though but, after flashing a custom rom and going back to stock it has worked fine for me. Using the same Oreo package that I used to update to Oreo the first time also.
I am really sad to hear about all these bugs due to OREO updating, they make me think that it has far more cons than pros over nougat, in my country no Oreo ota yet, I will stay this way until a really good oreo comes out...
Okay, so I noticed two bugs in the latest FW (318)
1) In call volume over bluetooth headset is very very low even with max volume (probably 3-4/10). Tried with different bluetooth headsets working with different mobiles. This issue is also being discussed on Asus forum. Disabling aptx or changing audio codec has no effect for me.
P.S.- Songs played through BT are fine, just the in call volume which is very low and full of static.
2) Nght mode (amber reading tint) doesn't turn on/off automatically at Sunset/Sunrise even though the setting is selected.
*Many apps does not work on wifi
*Adaptive brightness is buggy
*Over sensitive fingerprint scanner gives wakelocks while in pocket and drains battery
@Aftab_khatri @Tianhe Does Apps Force Close Sometimes And Does Phone Lag After that?
1) Almost all my apps work on wifi but are definitely slow compared to cellular data (LTE). Then again, the phone currently supports only 2.4 GHz wifi. Software update required for 5GHz.
2) I am on stock rooted ROM with debloat script executed in lite mode for removing useless apps. No FC as such, only got occasional Chrome crashes and unresponsive apps at times. Cleared cache through TWRP and working ok.
3) Adaptive brightness is buggy - again another software issue.
4) FP sensor is super sensitive but no idea about wakelock issues due to this
Confirming:
1. Buugy Ambient Light Sensor.
2. FP sensor is causing Wakelocks sometimes.
3. Apps were force closing (even though I have 6 GB variant)
Other bugs / problems:
1. Standby battery drain is high sometimes.
2. Yellowish screen. And Screen Colour goes back to DEFAULT after reboot.
3. Zen Motion stops working suddenly. S2W doesn't seem to work.
Extras:
1. Live Wallpaper Picker is not there. Install it manually ( ether user app or system app), and it'll crass while choosing live wallpaper.
2. Ambient Display is hidden.
Another bug (although a quick Google search shows that this affects many Oreo devices)
Custom ringtones stop working and incoming calls only vibrate. However, system ringtones work Ok.
A rather quirky fix to this : turn on bluetooth- restart- turn off bluetooth- restart. And it works !
How to check your latest update version ? I can't find it.
Hello friends i have problem with adaptive brightness

Better than that, use Sysconfig Patcher or Doze for GMS to effectively reduce drain without stopping google services entirely. Of course, Magisk is required so only for rooted devices.
Confirming the adaptive brightness issue.
There is an absence of a feature. The lock screen does not wake up when any notification is received.
Fp sensor is slow and sometimes does not work in first go.
My 6 gb variant shows none of the issues listed here. Even the gcam works perfectly with hdr+ enhanced on both cams. I've also found it working with enabling the nexus 6p model, and the hwhdr thing and others. Also WiFi is smooth no lags, even group playing music on 10 devices with soundseeder works like a charm. Played a lot of heavy games on WiFi multiplayer like nova 3, still no lag or crash. Running build 318.
It seems that the bug of low in call volume over bluetooth headset is back in v327, can anybody check and confirm ?
Edit: My bad, it required a simple wipe of cache+dalvik in recovery to solve the issue
Network issue...Ping is too high
I don't know what kind of developers HMD hires but, the software is half baked and not optimized properly.
Am I too late in saying that they should atleast provide bootloader unlock, so that we can have a better and more optimized software.
Blast Sarvikas, HMD and Nokia Mobiles on twitter and ask them either to optimize the software or provide bootloader unlock.
Problems right now:
1. Try locking phone using hardware button on an app with white screen, you will see a reddush hue when the screen turns off.
2. Very bad animation and laggy animations. App switching by double tapping recents used to be a breeze but now it's laggy af and sometimes doesn't even works.
3. Incompatibility with a lot of apps even after those apps are optimized for Android 9; Sound indictor sticks on the screen for more than one minute, phone heats a lot, battery draining, etc. One such app, that cause these problem is Lastpass.
4. Fingerprint problem; sometimes it doesn't works or is too late.
I agree with 1,2 and 4.
I have no such problems.

No issues like that on mine either.
I did not have such problems with my Nokia 7 plus. Everything is snappy and works very fast.
The only thing I noticed was crazy switching of the adaptive brightness and notifications that do not fit well the text.
Some of them are addressed in the November patch.
Coming from a phone that would never get a security update, I think this phone is heaven.
After my Mi A2 was updated from Android 8 O to Android 9 P, I have to face lots of bugs and some serious issues. Although I already tried factory resetting, it doesn’t help. Many A2 users also face these issues.
1. Portrait Mode – Unable to focus on any other subjects, except a subject in the middle of the frame. That means whenever you touch on the screen to focus, focusing does not work for you at all. This is one of most serious issues for users who love photography.
2. Fingerprint Scan – Significantly slower scanning speed. Very annoying.
3. Screen Brightness Dropping – When I was on Android 8 O, I always adjusted the brightness scale to 30-40% and it’s bright enough. But now, for Android 9 P, I have to slide the scale to 70-80% so I can see the screen clearly. (Adaptive Brightness already turned off)
+++ There's an explanation that this screen brightness change is not a bug. Find out more here: https://forums.androidcentral.com/g...ubt-about-display-brightness-android-pie.html
Thanks @Varun.Shanbhag for the information. +++
4. Heating Issue – I’ve noticed that while charging the phone, when it was on Android 8 O, the temperature never got more than 39°C, but now, on Android 9 P, it sometimes gets to 41°C. (Refer to the app ‘Ampere’)
Moreover, when using camera, it gets hot too quickly.
However, I am not sure if there’s only me facing this overheating issue.
It is likely to be caused by CPU freq. issue stated in the following thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/help/little-cpu-stucks-1401-mhz-min-freq-t3851184
5. Touch Screen – Touch screen seems to be less responsive than before. I can notice its latency. Sometimes I have to double tap the screen to get something done, because the first tap does not respond. (It can be easily noticed this issue with back button)
6. Lower Audio Volume – Some users say that they're facing lower audio volume issue when using earphones or headphones.
7. Face ID - Face ID doesn't work stably, it sometimes works and sometimes does not.
8. Front Flash Issue - front flash doesn't work when I turn it on in camera app. (But it works when set it as 'Auto')
9. Black Banding on Camera Screen - There're black bandings appear on the screen while using camera app, they look like signal noise appears on TV.
10. Camera App Crashes - Camera sometimes crashes, for example, the camera app says "Camera Error - Can't connect to camera" when I switch the camera from back to front in Portrait Mode.
11. Whole system seems to be less stable than it was in Android Oreo.

I hope all issues will be fixed in the next update.

I'm not sure about beep and screen randomly wake up, but the laggy LED pulse happens to me, that makes me annoyed sometimes ?
I also found that the LED issue has appeared since Android 8 O.
yeah the laggy led looks so cheap and retro like it was used in the last century ???
Hey guys, i just updated to pie December update, and the wifi tethering band locked to 2,4Ghz, any way to enable the 5ghz?
Really considering flashing the custom Pixel Experience ROM. Having a lot of bugs on Pie. Did the factory reset. None of them gone.
Any suggestions ? Should I just go for Custom. Or should I wait for next update ?

About the heating problem probably your cpu stacks at 1401 mhz when charging. Check it with cpu spy. This was happened to me with pie.

I think Xiaomi should fix these bugs ASAP, seems there're too much troubles here, as if we are using extremely unstable buggy custom rom LOL.

Thanks for your information, I've added it to the list. I also hear about Face ID issue on Pie, so you can be sure that there's not only you are facing haha.
I feel kinda sad with this update. We should report all the problems to Xiaomi as much as we can, just hope the dev can hear our voices.

Oreo is ok, i have downgrade my phone after some hours using pie. Pie for me it is in early beta.
How can we report about this ?
Gps problems
I'm also having issue with lags. Fingerprint scanner is lagging from time to time.. Overall daily task from switching apps to bring back to home screen also lags.
Disabling adaptive brightness seems to help improve the lag so far...

I just got my Global A2, 4/64 two days ago. Updated to Pie and have Dec Patch.
1) Portrait works fine. I can focus on any part of the scene and that subject will be in focus. Works quickly and reliably.
2) Fingerprint scan is quick with zero issues holding my finger at any angle. No lag whatsoever.
3) I went straight to Pie, so had zero experience with Oreo on the A2, but screen brightness behaves similar to the Moto G5+ that I had before. Adaptive brightness also behaves the same.
4) I never checked the phone with Oreo, but when charging on Pie, the phone feels cool to the touch. Cooler than my Moto G5+. BTW, I am using the OEM Moto QC 3.0 charger with the A2.
5) Touch screen is as responsive as my Moto G5+ and my Wife's Moto G6.
6 and 7) I don't use headphones or Face ID.

Hello
I was on Oréo before and I did not notice any difference in the use with Pie, I am very fond of this version (sorry for English).
