Does Gorilla 5 require a tempered glass protector? - Nokia 8 Sirocco Questions & Answers

I was wondering whether the display would suffer from micro scratches without a tempered glass.
I'm by no means going to keep my keys and phone in the same pocket but you know...

Use creen protector to be safer. Gorilla glass 5 is not the hardest gorilla glass ?
But i think theres no 3d tempered glass thats fits?
Self healing foil should be good for you!

really? i thought with the exception of gorilla glass 6, it would've been the best there was.
what's self healing foil?

Its a softer foil where Scratches heal itself

5 is scratch resistant as 6.
4 was not so scratch resistant
But i think u will become scratches, mostly micro scratches
When u like to rebuy the phone use screen protector. But when u like to use your phone until u buy new one its your choice if you can live with scratches after 1 year of using it
There are always harder materials that causes scratches

Protector for curved screen is joke. Have no chance to fit good. I had Galaxy S6 edge, Note edge, s7, s8, Note 8... After a few days and it becomes ugly. Now Im using Sirocco from half year without protector and screen is OK.

thanks, I'll have a think but will likely apply something on it as I can by OCD.
By the way what do you think of the sirocco?
would you recommend it if you were to purchase it today? I would expect it to last for 2-3years ( I'm still using a motox 4 years old) and the moment is a close call btw this and the p20.
I'm into a decent camera, don't game and like small form mobiles.
p20 or sirocco?

P20 or? It depends ...

I would expect the Nokia to last longer, but I am a phone looser
"I love the display and the camera performance... but I just dropped it onto concrete and it bounced and did not crack. The steel and glass held it's ground. That has sealed the deal for me and vindicated me going back to Nokia, the phone you can rely upon in a zombie apocalypse. Now I think I'll go and sheepishly put on the case that came in the box." -
I searched high and low, but only one screen crack is reported, pressing the power-button, some dirt probably was in between the screen and the button.
Cam is not very good, no OIS, you will need two steady hands and a soft, long pressure not to shake the pics.
I dislike the Huawei software.
Buy a good cover for the Nokia. Aliexpress from one $.
Bought the phone for half price on eglobal central europe.

Generic screen protectors!

Can anyone suggest a cheap screen protector maybe you have bought from eBay? If it is possible share a link to where I can purchase it. Please share only products you have tried. I don't want to buy something I don't know well and haven't seen a review of it! Thanks...
I got these tempered glass ones. Two in the package for $6.95. Put one on the phone back in early June still going strong. Hi proper cutout for the proximity sensor and ffc.
https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Hardness-Protector-Anti-Scratch-Anti-Fingerprint/dp/B01C1TVYVQ
http://www.ebay.com/itm/281828808760
Two tempered glass protectors with proximity cutouts, $4. Feels just like a normal screen.
Installation was easy, carefully clean the screen of all dust and residue then align the tempered glass carefully. Bubbles will dissapear as you press on them, and it's no rush, I had bubbles a few hours after that dissapeared when I applied pressure.
Definitely inspires confidence that it will protect the screen from impacts?
This screen protector from Amazon works great! I personally have this one and it was a perfect fit and saved my phone from a face down drop on cement.
Nexus 5X Screen Protector, PLESON LG (Google) Nexus 5X Tempered Glass Screen Protector [2015], 99% Clarity, 0.2mm, 9H Hardness, Bubble Free, Glass Screen Protector for Nexus 5X https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016CUS84Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_xbsaybJFK359X
I had a tempered glass from Nillkin at first. Someday I droped it and the tampered glass did its job fine protecting the screen but broke. Then I thought that tempered glasses may break easier than the screen and thus every few drops I loose 10usd for nonreason (the screen never broke without protector, but the protector broke quite easily). So I ordered some tempered glasses from Aliexpress priced just under a dollar. The first one was probably defective and started to get off on one corner. But after that I got it off and applied another. Its perfect now, it feels just like naked screen (same as Nillkin). It broke on face down drop but maybe the exensive one would brake too.
Probably the expensive ones are tougher but they cost 10 times up or more. Does it really worth it?

If you drop your phone that much, quantity is probably more worth it for you than quality
Its not that, but i think that cheap ones do the job so why to pay for an branded one?
Had a Pleson that lasted for the whole 11 months or so I had my first 5X but got this instead when I got my replacement:
[2-PACK]-Mr Shield For LG (Google) Nexus 5X 2015 Newest [Tempered Glass] Screen Protector with Lifetime Replacement Warranty https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D9EMSGC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_MuseybGAD64PK
It's cheap, comes with 2, and installation was easy and bubble free.

Keeping screen without any protection

Hello Guys, i have had my one plus 3 now for a while and i decided lately to remove the screen protector and i have to say screen fills much more smoother , cooler to the feel and not mention much vivid for sure. i think gorilla glass dose good protection towards scratches prevention , for sure some very small scratches may occur which are hardly noticeable, so tell me guys do you use any protection on your screen?
Have some kind of sock for tough days. Apart from that... Gorilla glass screen and the watch everything through as USD 15 protector? Get a great telly and then glue some plastic onto the screen?

I havent remove the film and dying to. I lost hope on tempered glass, theres still not one TG that works well. The official OP3 is the best but still cut a few mm from the side of the screen.
Now with that been said, i went naked with my nexus 6p and with the in and out of my packed one day (2 weeks after purchase) i notice a 2 inch scratch in the middle of the screen. Even thougn is gorilla glass.
Now i had the note 3 note 5 and galaxy s7 for months running naked and u my see small hairline scratches in the sun but nothing to go crazy about.
My believe is that even though gorilla glass is though, ill be concern more on what kind of coating it uses. Cause coating scratches looks like regular scratches. Thats what i believe my nexus 6P had.

i have never applied any type of protection to my screen before, my pervious phones where all samsung, the last phone was galaxy s5 and i noticed a very thin scratch during strong sunlight but it was not a big deal i never notice it again once i forgot about it, i feel like adding screen protector ruins the experience, but some people likes having it
My NEXUS 5 running naked since 2013, it has few scratches on screen , but u will appreciate only when u r deliberately searching for them, so in short its good if you use it naked.
Always used all my phones naked (no screen protectors, no cases) and I don't regret it. I simply take care of my devices.
- OP3: 5 months old now, looks just like at day 1.
- ASUS Padfone 2: used it for 3 years, has only 1 tiny scratch on Gorilla Glass 2 (and quite a bit scratched plastic back)
- Galaxy S: used it for 2 years, gave it to my mom who's still using it (over 5.5y old now). Has 2 tiny scratches on screen (GG1) and completely scratched back [emoji14]
So I'd say Gorilla Glass really doesn't need any additional protection. Except if you have sand (or other hard minerals) in your pockets.
Case on the other hand is optional. I don't like them personally, but won't deny their usefulness. Aluminum is pretty soft and will scratch way more easily than screen.

Heck i just removed mine now. Only payed $200 for the phone. But even then this film protector is annoying not been full screen
I always like to use my phones naked, without anything, cause it feels the best. But then there is sand. It did my Note 3's screen, and since then no way I am letting any phone's display, Gorilla or Hulk glass, don't matter which to run naked. Just get any quality protective screen like Nillkin or something, and you are good to go. I am a pretty much careful user by the way. Obviously would recommend a tempered glass one but its meaningless on a 2.5D screen anyway.
Im not using any protection

I have my phone since it was launched, I've removed the factory screen protector right after I've unboxed it, and it has been naked since then. No scratches whatsoever.
I removed the one protector which came with OP3 and I saw scratches after a month usage itself. They were in the shape and pattern which made me realize that my thumb's nail made them. I am no wolverine so obviously its something which gorilla glass is lacking. The scratches weren't too obvious when the screen was on, but were visible when it was off. Ended up putting the OP tempered glass coz I didn't want to spoil it further. No issues with smoothness however the edges are few mm short

Spends tons on crappy nilkin and ozly glass with the same no screen glue bs.(the sharp edged hurts my ear when calling too) And a few other generic non-full cover glass.(is it so goddamn hard to make?) Got feed up and torn it off one day. Been using without glass and case for a month now, no scratches on both screen and metal. Dropped a couple of times on ceramic and carpet, no damage. Went to the beach and got sand on it, still no damage. Wash it under tap after beach, still no water damage. Thought I fear one day it will all come back at me, so do not recommend you use it without protection.
Seriously, oneplus may design their phone however beautiful, but if any protection at all null the "curve screen glass technology" I'll rather they keep it on the board and make a more functional phone that need no protection like the htc.

Yup. Saw some water resistance testing at youtube where he dip it in a container for 30 minutes, so why not just some wash under a tap. Of course I bear no responsibility if you break your phone, but I did it after I turn the phone off, then dry all the ports with tissue. I did not directly aim the water at the ports tho, just wash over it, cause my main concern was washing the sand off the screen.
edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlkisMlH5fY He didn't do it for 30 minutes, but its working fine.
update : after using the phone for about 2 weeks, without screen protector idecide to check the screen under strong falsh light, and i found severla micro scratches that are not visible easily , but nothing deal breaker there they are not visible in daily usage.
I am currently using my phone with mivi tempered glass and I am satisfied with it so far the tg feels so buttery buttery smooth.I had a rainbow affect in the beginning but I kept my phone under my pillow and slept on it and on the next day the rainbow affect was gone.
I removed my screen protector and what should I say... its a great feeling [emoji23] The phone looks much nicer and the screen is so smooth.

Incredibly easy to scratch?

So I got a oneplus 3t 2 days ago and took it to college for a day. I was blown away by the whole experience. The speed, camera quality, charging speeds and overall feel to the device really surprised me. After my first day with it, I got home and realized about 10 micro scratches along the bottom of the glass at the curve. I was taken aback because I never have scratches on my phones after over a year of having them and this had a bunch after a day.
My pockets were completely empty (no dust at bottom or anything). Since the scratches were at the top of where it would be in my pocket, I figured maybe a stud on my pants scratched it as I pulled it in or out. Checked my pants and no studs on the pair I was wearing. The phone was in my hands or pocket the entire day. How in the hell did it get scratches from touching soft cloth and flesh all day? Like what the hell, did they make their glass out of the ****tiest glass in the world?
If you don't use a protector, you will get scratches. Sorry!
Strange though, my tempered glass is still flawless, not a scratch on it. If I'd go naked I'm sure I get million scratches within the day.
Why did you go naked? Phone comes with a pre applied screen protector
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
I agree the screen is VERY soft. I have a few hairline scratches on mine, and that was after day one of taking the plastic protector off (like a dummy).
Mine has dents and scratches all over the phone, lol
Here's a sample video from youtube
Its really a gorilla glass and the back camera is sapphire, its not easy to scratch according to the video
Jerry rig everything did his scratch test and it scratched like any phone at a level 6. But in a pocket you can have anything microscopic. Sand is the number one thing found in pockets and is a killer to any phone even gorilla glass 4 that the 3T has. https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=24t5yhGvvRs
https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=j39qdOHHWpk
Mine has a hairline scratch too after 14 days of taking care...
Anyone else who took good care and never layed it facedown on table etc. and it scratched?
I've been using my 3T for a couple of weeks now without a screen protector and the screen is still flawless. I usually keep it in a neoprene pouch when not in use though. I really hate plastic screen protectors, and all of the current offering of glass protectors are too flawed in my opinion.

Gorilla Glass 4 actually sacrificed some scratch resistance when compared with Gorilla Glass 3 in order to increase shatter resistance. So if you're coming from GG3 you may notice that.

True lol, and plastic screen protector is very easy to replace and its cheap compare to the CGG4 of oneplus 3T which is expensive due to replacement of the whole screen.
Btw there's no official oneplus physical service centers that will handle it
Many people in my country fall for that stupid mistake
Better micro scratches than original plastic protector that attracts smudges as hell and ruins visual experience in general.
My OP3T is naked from day 1 for more than 2 months now and don't see any scratches. Maybe just because I don't give a damn looking at it closely or with a microscope
everydevice every glass can be scratched at certain level of tourcher if you dont like scratch use the protector always
Has any one thought how many scratches our cars have?? and we dont even care
Is this a phone or what? I use it naked. No scratches or anything. Still... I use it.
Do you just say that because scratches aren't affecting you from using the phone or did you check under some light?

This phone is having gorilla glass protrction or not? if yes, which version?

Can not find any protection information in display section.

Your link does not talk about the P20 Pro
There is a screen protector on from the factory I noticed. Has anyone taken theirs off? I feel like it's interfering with the interface making it less responsive but know as soon as I take it off it'll never go back on the same!
Just took my screen protector off, feels way better the figer print button is flush everything feels more premium, no scratches yet
Gorilla glass or no, I wouldn't drop it. Can't rely on any phone glass to survive unless the frame of the phone gives it some protection. Most modern phones are like Icicles and shatter when you look at them.
I dropped mine from above my head while taking a picture at a gig and there's no damage at all.

I took mine off by accident since I thought it was an extra layer of packaging protection. First time I've ever bought a phone that came with a screen protector pre-applied. Moving my fingers across the screen definitely feels a lot smoother without it, which is also the main reason I've never used screen protectors in the past (that and not being able to put them on without getting bubbles below them the couple of times I've tried).
I think I'll leave it without any additional protection, I've only dropped phone two or three times in my life. Though they did actually crack on those occasions.
I think I mentioned this somewhere else, but I cracked my P20's screen. It's not fatal, just a hairline crack cutting off the top left corner. I still don't really know how it happened. I haven't dropped the phone. I think it is possible that I scratched it and then the scratch turned into a crack. Anyway, I don't think a screen protector would have saved it, as screen protectors are pretty much redundant on gorliia glass phones. Whatever scratched it (a stone I guess) was strong enough to damage the glass so would have probably cut straight through the plastic protector.
It doesn't have gorilla glass, but it does have some protection.
See the below link
https://twitter.com/HuaweiIndia/status/993763228814663680?s=19
Its the same material used in gorilla glass though.
Lol the tweet basically confirms that there is no scratch protection whatsoever. Its a shame Huawei tried to save costs on such high end and expensive phone. (view 10 is the same. Why they do this is beyond me.)

Well, that's just part of the equation. View 10 also has a "just as good" glass, according to Huawei, but scratches on every occasion. Bottom line is, Huawei tried to cheap out on the protector (again), which is shameful. Bought a Mate 10 Pro, was thinking about selling the P10 Plus we have and buying a P20 Plus, but ...thanks no.
Tbh trademarked names won't save you from breaking the screen.
I'd say glass in flagships is almost identical nowadays and if you drop it be prepared for the crack.
Feel free to remove the plastic screen protector and apply some a good quality glass one. That's what I am aiming for.
Screen with no protector can easily scratch from sand grains that might be in your pocket for example.

Corning's website shows that Huawei P20 Pro has Gorilla Glass 5.
Gorilla or not all screens are prone to smashing. I wouldn't carry a several hundred pound device in my pocket 24/7 without ample protection. I always use a decent case and glass screen protector. I highly recommend Spigen in both cases, very good quality and not expensive in comparison to others on the market.
People seem confused by Huawei's decision to cut costs in areas like this but I couldn't justify spending £800 on a such a device and wouldn't have a flagship device if they hadn't.
If you're clumsy, you're clumsy. Gorilla glass can't save you.

Tempered glass

Hello,
Just wanted to share my experience with tempered glasses on Mi9se.
First I tried this one:
https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07P88H5GC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It was quite ok, but covered only the screen part which is on, not the bezels.
It cracked when I tried to clean it up so I bought an other one.
As I knew Nillkin's reputation on cases, I bought this one:
https://www.nillkin-case.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=6461
This is the best! Covers very well the screen and bezels, the camera, and even the camera on the back of the phone.
Don't know about the strenght yet, but I definitely recommend it.
Used Nilkin glass for 1.5months now and after 1 month I wake up and find air inside or whatever that I couldn't push out. On the top the air hole appeared as well a week later. The glass cracked in my pocket while sitting whole day in the office lol. My previous glass that I used for 2.5 years didn't get air trapped inside (I had problems applying but after few days of pushing hard it never lost contact with the display)

H+ pro
lol so after seeing I hit dead end and that I can protect this phone I decided to peel this protector off. I was very gentle but immediately after raising it just snapped in half (no sound no nothing just the line that bends extremely easily). Feels very soft stuff like some soft plastic. It's a shame that for few weeks there was no signs of any trapped stuff and later air would get in micro dot that I couldn't get rid off and whole big air gap would reaper shortly after

Good. I just ordered one. Also the H+ pro with curved edges.
It has arrived.
I was able to put it on without any dust nor air beneath. So far so good.
Putting on the camera protection was a bit finicky for me. But I have that on too now, without dust nor air. I needed multiple attempts there. Cleaning that with a wet wipe (both sides) works very well for a restart though. I would probably not do that with the screen protector.

It cracked when I tried to clean it up so I bought an other one.
As I knew Nillkin's reputation on cases, I bought this one:

This is the best! Covers very well the screen and bezels, the camera, and even the camera on the back of the phone.
Don't know about the strenght yet, but I definitely recommend it.
