I just wondering if it is possible to make an custom rom, of copperhead os? Or can it only be used in Google Pixel devices?

I would think not since you need to unlock the bootloader to install a custom rom.

My bootloader is also unlocked, I meant that you cannot run CopperheadOS on an unsecured/unlocked system. This is what I was referring to:
"Unlike other custom ROMs that strive to add lots of new functionality, Copperhead runs a pretty vanilla version of AOSP. Also, while the first thing you usually do when playing with a custom ROM is to add root access to the device, not only does Copperhead prevent that, it also requires that you have a device that has verified boot, so there's no unlocking the bootloader. This is to prevent malicious code from getting access to the handset."

Hi folks.
Been rooting and replacing stock ROMs on android tablets for about 3 years now (usually cyanogenmod). I just ordered a ME176CX.
Can the bootloader be unlocked? Can cyanogenmod (or some other android flavor) be installed?
Thanks.

There is no known way to unlock the installed bootloader on the device, although there is the theoretical possibility to boot a custom bootloader on the device. Making that work, however is quite complex and requires low-level knowledge. Because of this, there is also no CyanogenMod available for this device.
Rooting is easily possible, however.
We have flashify/flashfire, so why can't we just flash using these?
The locked bootloader won't allow booting an unsigned kernel.

If the rom is using the stock kernel there is no problem. That is why we don't have AOSP like CM 13 yet.
In theory you could flash a rom form another G4 but your radio probably won't work. I remember that with the G3 you could do this and then there was a fix for the radio to get it working but they also have an unlocked bootloader.

I see so then what is preventing us from unlocking the bootloader or even installing TWRP. I know TWRP usually requires unlocked bootloader but can't we set it to read AND write permissions?

TWRP has a custom kernel. It is pretty much a kernel image so you need an unlocked bootloader. As far as unlocking the bootloader, it has a encryption key. If we had that we would be good but we don't so we need to bypass it somehow.
I think that our best bet is to wait and see if the sprint g5 gets unlocked and try to use that. Other than that I remember with the droid razr maxx that I had they used a program called safestrap instead of TWRP. It essentially took the stock kernel and loaded whatever you told it to software wise. However it had a boot screen which took 5 seconds longer to boot. Kind of like dual booting on a PC with grub.
P.S. I'm looking to get a Sprint G4 and start development on it but they are still too expensive.

Development is dead on this device. We can make stock modified system images hardly call it a rom. Ure wasting ure time buying this. There will not be a bootloader unlock. Cant be hacked as of yet some of the worlds greatest android minds have tried may even still be. Fact is its prob not gonna happent any time soon. And the solution will either come from g5 or whatever they make after that. The bootloader partitions are to highly encrypted to hack. It does it really sucks but like i said lost cause
Hi everyone,
I've recently unlocked my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 that came with the chinese rom so that I could install the global rom.
I've been using it for a while and when I opened a banking app, I get the following message:
Warning
It seems your device has had unauthorized modifications to its operating system. Using this device for your banking could compromise the security of your personal information.
I didn't think unlocking the phone would be this much of a risk. I don't understand too much about the technology behind this so I wanted to see if anyone could explain whats happening and if I should refund my phone.
Thanks!

You are probably using the global dev rom which doesn't pass Safetynet for various reasons. You shouldn't have any issues with the global stable rom.
Don't listen to the guy above. Flash Global Stable ROM if you haven't already and lock your bootloader. From then on all will be good.

I said pretty much exactly the same thing as you?
It won't matter whether he uses Dev or Stable if his bootloader is left unlocked. He needs both Global Stable and a locked bootloader.

U don't need to lock the bootloader to get it to work, I'm on the global ROM with unlocked bootloader - safety net passes.
It also passes on Xiaomi EU ROM with unlocked bootloader. Just flash one of those ROMs, install magisk, and set magisk to hide.

I am running Miui 9 global with unlocked bootloader and rooted with Magisk 14.3 and it passes safetynet and Android pay works just fine.
Guys, I know this is XDA but come on. Guy just wants a working phone without the hassle. He didn't ask for root or methods to bypass Safetynet with Magisk! Locking bootloader on an official Global Stable ROM is all he needs.

You forgot to mention they also didn't ask for locking the bootloader either.
Do you really think someone who says this really cares about bypassing Safetynet?

Also, don't quote the post you are replying to if it's right above yours. It's bad netiquette.

Only the poster can decide if they care or not, it's better to have more options than 1.
It's not bad etiquette, it ensures that my comment addresses the comment I want it to address.

+1, installing magisk is definitely the easier fix. Won't need to wipe data or anything
@ssojyeti2, locking bootloader doesn't wipe data. Stop spreading misinformation. Also how is it easier if you have to flash (or at least boot TWRP) and then flash Magisk zip? To lock BL you need to run one command (fastboot oem lock) and you're done.

Ssojyeti2 just clearly said that flashing magisk doesn't wipe your data or anything. Nothing about locking bootloader...

Well said. I just got my phone and it's on the Chinese rom. I'm not a rom/flash xda member and I'm leaving my phone on the Chinese rom and stock. Bloat removed or frozen already with a 1.5gb update pending for download tonight (a nice option miui gave me) and a smaller update installed as I switched on the phone. I intend to keep this phone for a few years and I'm not f*cking with anything.
Gapps installed and working perfectly, including contacs sync which was an issue at some point. I haven't tried nfc yet but everything works including irrelevant apps asking for nfc access (lol). Nah, I'll stick with the Chinese rom until there's a compelling reason to change it.
Can you simply explain what are advantages by unlocking the bootloader, waiting 14 days (why 14?) ?
I just wanted to replace the stock Android 7 with Oreo 8, but in most of the guides it looks like the boot loader must be unlocked.
Can one explain to me the technical reason for that?
Thnx
The bootloader must be unlocked so you can flash recovery and do a lot from there. The main reason you'd want it unlocked is for root or custom roms, or even Android P semi GSI

Thank you Hinnie,
so far as I understand, if I would use a custom rom, the bootloader unlocked is mandatory...
But why one need to wait for 14 days?
The 14 days time is from Lenovo itself. Every company has different policy in terms of deciding duration for unlocking bootloader.

So, that the user has the option to cancel the process of unlocking, in these 14 days.
It's for safety purpose, coz once the bootloader is unlocked, one can customise (or destroy) everything from system files to IMEI to making phone a brick.
With great power comes great responsibilities
So, there are various pros & cons of unlocking bootloader.
But, nothing will be damaged until you follow the steps or guidelines provided for the various processes. Just read & read & implement once you are almost 90% sure that it will not harm your data or device.
And most important always remember to keep backups
Happy Flashing !!
So i really want to go to stock Android. Is it possible to flash to stock android but keep a few apps? I want to keep the camera app since it was desigend for the camera, and maybe a few other things.
has anyoe else flashed a new OS to their pro+ yet and if you have what is your experience with it so far?

Maybe not yet, but probaly will be or someone will find a way to do it.
Is there a post i have misses where i can see which apps and files needed to be transfered to have accesess to specific features. Or is that a figure it out yourself thing?
A start would be to install the factory service software 1.5, but the common version doesn't work. Need Chinese phone number to register on a download website for the adapted one - may give some more insights but without exploit no bootloader unlock.

It may be because i haven't ventured further. But as far as i can see on my phone, the bootloader should be unlockable. Or at least i have allowed OEM unlocking which states "Allow bootloader to be unlocked".
So is it when i get further into the process it still won't allow the bootloader to eb unlocked?

You can tick the "allow unlock" button but that's all. None of the unlock commands work. I think @jericho246 tested that.
